Pier Catch in Hastings

Honestly, the best fish and chips I've ever eaten! The batter was perfect! Lovely and light, and not greasy in the slightest! Wonderful meal, thank you!

Well, it wasn’t busy at all, just the two of us in, ordering 3 portions of chips and a fish and chips… the longest 15 mins of my life! No music, no nothing, eerie silence, no air-con, or extraction, just silent heat and no end to waiting…. Bad decisions of thinking it’s a quick chippie on the beach! A truly awkward experience!

Very unhelpful staff. My daughter has allergies so I asked if they had allergy information and the response was no and gave a rude impression that they did not want custom. Such a shame. We walked straight back out.

Great place, I've had a good time, they've been very helpful, they let me in with my dog also, thumbs up from me.

We visited on 27 July and took a chance on this shop, it turned out really well. There was space to sit down inside so we did, and we ordered one large cod and chips to share, plus mushy peas, and two cups of tea. They brought the tea pretty quickly, and it was fine. The fish and chips took 10–15 minutes to come, and was really good. Excellent chips with the right mixture of soft and crispy texture, and the cod was absolutely brilliant. Soft and fresh, very good batter that was crispy and not too thick. The mushy peas were good, too. This will be my go-to next time I come to Hastings.

We bought large and medium and sat on the pier. Fish was lovely and fresh with crispy batter and chips were gorgeous and flavoursome. Got to be the best by the sea fare I have had for a long time. Bravo!

arrived hot but food was not eatable, chips looked like that they were the last out of the bag, and batter on the sausages were overcooked, normally I like this place

Just moved into area and tried their fish and chips. They were lovely not greasy will definitely go again.congratulations to new owner who's been there one year

Ordered 2 medium and 1 large cod. 2 small chips and 3 sausages. 2 girkins and 3 cans. At just under £45 i was expecting quite a decent sized meal. What we got was 2 tiny pieces of cod, one slightly bigger, and a lot of undercooked soggy batter. I should have known better as it was empty on a Friday night. Then I was asked if I wanted all 3 pieces of cod in the small box provided which made me wonder how big they were. Really dislike these posh pop up fish and chip shops. Lots of paper very neatly wrapped, nice looking boxes, lovely inside, and then you get a tiny meal for twice the cost of the decent places, which Hastings has plenty of. Avoid if you want a decent sized, reasonably priced meal

The 6 of us had a lovely meal here last night. Food was really nice, portions were good and the kids ate and enjoyed all their food too. We'll head back here in a couple days for sure!

Food was freshly cooked, scampi, cod, chicken nuggets and chips, all was delicious 😋👌🏼 would definitely visit again if in the area!

ordered for 6pm but kept delaying until delivered 6.30pm. Also gherkin was missing from the order

Food was lovely but disappointed as ordered two children meals chicken nuggets but they don’t advertise they don’t come with chips !! And at £5.50 per portion for just 4 nuggets with no chips is expensive and leaves the kids with only half a meal, all the other kids meals comes with chips.

The nicest and lightest batter I've eaten in the UK. Batter here is often heavy and greasy, which takes over the flavour of the fish. This was perfect. Very friendly service too.

Really excellent fish and chips, freshly cooked to order. Nice crisp batter. Friendly smiley service. Eat in or takeaway. Most Hastings fish and chip shops are in the Old Town but Pier Catch is a few hundred yards from the town centre in the other direction, towards the Pier, and, as far as I know is the only chippie in this area. As such it's a local treasure. Highly recommended.

Order was a just warm when delivered. Some chips were undercooked, some were undercooked. Fish was nice and fresh tasting. The 1/2 pounder cheeseburger was inedible sadly. Couldn't taste the burger as it was drenched in burger sauce. What a shame

Pretty poor, unfortunately. Poor fish, poor batter, oily and not bubbly, just a hard case. Mushy peas ok, chips quite good.

Rooms comfortable with good views. Staff really welcoming and helpful.Breakfast well organised with good selection of choice.I will return!

Oiley..made it taste unpleasant really busy so returned a second time after 3 days..sadly no change.

Was a very friendly place the staff were very nice. The food was very nice as well. The atmosphere was nice too. Only issue was strange customers swearing and acting wierd but this is not the fault of the restaurant.

I had a medium-cod fish & chips. It was really good and Delicious. I had a great lunch at Pier Catch.The good thing Is all the fish items come with chips. The Service was good and the atmosphere was amazing. Just next to the beach down the road. Thank you for your food and Good luck👍

A little stop while walking from Haven caravan park to Hastings castle, good food, chips fried and crunchy not like others mushy potatoes dipped in oil. Highly recommended.

We had the whole place for ourselves when we had a holiday near the area. The owner was very pleased with how many we were. The portions were sizeable and the price was also reasonable. It was also close to the beach which is just great.

Hmmm. £3.20 for a small chips is ridiculous, but they were good chips. I doubt I will go back at that price though, as there is plenty of cheaper competitors in this town of many chippys.

Lovely friendly cafe by the sea front. Good personal and thoughtful service. Fairly priced for both take away and dine in. Unfortunately I could not sample their grilled fish option as I would've liked.

chips smelt and looked amazing but were hard in the middle. saveloy was amazing but a bit cold. it was great food just hard chips

Although cooked fresh the food was average. The fish batter was soggy and very oily..you could taste the olive off the fish and chips.... should of realised that something was not right as it was empty no other customers 😕

We ate in the restaurant went for the medium cod and chips it was quite a small piece of fish but anyway started to eat the fish and it wasn’t cooked and didn’t taste right he didn’t want to accept the fact the taste of the fish was the problem but accepted it wasn’t cooked right through to be far he took it off the bill but he kept saying about I gave you a nice Piece well I expect a nice piece for that price and cooked he seem gutted he refunded me to be honest.

Not even one star! The chips was undercooked , staff is rude, needed to order again because they forgott our order. Charge double price if u want to it in. We got a small size cod insted of medium.. Not recommended at all!

Very friendly team, very accommodating The menu was good, the children had a good choice. The food came in good time to get us to our theatre.

Local here. Have been to this place twice now, first time was not great, but I gave it a second go cos the location is so convenient for the beach. The fish I was served today was probably the second worst I have had in 2.5yrs in Hastings. Batter incredibly greasy and flabby, pretty much inedible. The quality of the fillet itself was not too bad, so the fault is with the effort put in by the cook. It looks like this place needs to be more careful who it hires as others have had great experiences here, I assume due to a different cook being on duty. Anyway, two strikes and you're out - I will not be coming back here. Extra point withdrawn for having plastic forks and sachets, no longer acceptable in a seaside town that is now fully aware of plastic pollution. On a plus side, the chips are great.

Lovely cod with thin crispy batter and fat chunky chips with hardly any grease. The shop was very clean and the staff were friendly.

Without a doubt the best fish and chip😋 that I have tasted so far in England a huge fish fillet, super tender🤤🤤, it melted in my mouth🤤 and the first-class batter, nothing oily super important to me.🙌🙌

It has to be fish and chips when at the seaside. Not sure you'll find a better place than Pier Catch. Friendly staff, nice venue and the food tastes good too.

First got fish and chips from here a year ago and it was unmistakenly the best fish and chips I've ever had. Came back yesterday and it was as fantastic as it was the first time. I would disagree with the accusation that this shop refused entry to people because of their black skin, this is a ridiculous claim as the staff where all clearly from different ethnic backgrounds and they where serving all kinds of people when I was there! It's probably because the people weren't wearing facemasks.

If you're going here, make sure you have the fresh fish. It is always worth asking what is fresh today, as it is bought fresh daily from the local fishermen. All other items are standard fare, unfortunately.

Great fish and chips shop! Went in close to closing for a takeaway - just a small cod and chips. Our lovely Dutch chef was friendly and entertaining, and the portions were still generous. The fish was perfectly cooked and the batter was light and crispy. Best fish I've had in a long while! I definitely recommend eating there.

I thought the fish looked under done, but it was just because the batter was so light and fluffy - more like tempura. The chips had their skin on and tasted homemade. It was all really fresh and delicious. So glad we dropped in! My only complaint was a lack of veggie options. Battered tofu or halloumi option would be great.

Popped in almost at random and so glad we did. The fish and chips were excellent, good value and speedily served. Even the background dance music was good.

Excellent cod and chips, we had medium and it was the size of a whale!!! . Hubby couldn't quite eat it all. One if the most delicious batters I have ever had. Quiet spot with sea view and lovely staff.

1 star is even been generous, did not get to try the food as service was refused at the DOOR. Could it have be because we're black? Or a family? Which most businesses would welcome as it means more money spent in your establishment? The reaction(facial) of the management as we approached the door said it all, were was that welcoming smile you should always greet customers with? People inside looked at us as if we have come beg for food. We was told we have to book a table in advance? Before we could even say anything else the guy behind the till just gave us his back. Shocking behaviour. We knew we was not welcomed in that shop. I enjoyed my time in hastings but that's one shop i never want to see!

The lady was nice but the guy rude . We waited a lot and they didn’t even give us a fork and tissue . The fish and chips was ok . The service nah.

I ordered battered sausage and chips, my chips were undercooked Soggy and green.. the curry sauce was layered from where it looks like it’s been sitting for so long My sausage didn’t look or taste nice .. So I rang them up and the response I got was “I can’t do anything about that” Has anyone got advice? I’ve waisted so much money on one order and this is what I get how disgusting!!!

Ordered via deliveroo, said 25-30 minutes delivery time Well I waited an hour, food arrived and it was basically cold and wrong sauce was sent And delivery was via car not bicycle so shouldn't have taken that long, the time on app kept being changed

Went in there last night before going to the white rock ordered food sat there for 20 mins then they had cooked the fish we didnt want they offered us to cook the fish we wanted but have to wait another 10 mins so we left the staff didnt have a clue how to run the place it wasnt even busy never again
