Ordered food on line. Sausage in batter could do with a lot of improvement. We did not eat them as batter was soggy and emimic. Gluten free sausage in batter over cooked. Very disappointed as was always a good chippy but not this time

I must say, I had the best fish in batter I think I've had anywhere from here...so crispy..so tasty!

Sadly standards appear to have slipped, just had chips and curry sauce, chips where undercooked and the smaller bits where really chewy. The curry sauce was congealed as if it had been there for days.

This is a great chippy. The food is tasty and things like fish are cooked fresh in front of you. Called in there tonight as they were about to close. They still served me and we had a good conversation as well

In desperate need of more staff or at least cook fish before opening. Currently queuing as I write this. None of the staff know who is where in the queue, currently been waiting 45 mins and about to give up. Such a shame as this place has a lot of potential

The food is lovely but they really need to have more than 2 people working. I waited for 40 minutes to order, and all I wanted was chips and jumbo sausage. Such a shame the service is slow, I know they prepare fresh food, which is fab, but they need more staff to meet the demand. The 2 that we're working were non-stop to be fair. I will be considering going to another chip shop in the future. A few people who were waiting ended up walking out due to the waiting time.

I called at three yesterday . No fish or chips available. I agreed to wait, but should have waited longer. The chips were white and not cooked. The fish looked good but the batter was still runny and very greasy. Some crispiness on the edges but only on the outside. The wrapping paper was soaked in grease and my car seat marked. Bought sausage in batter and chips for my grandson chips were under cooked and not very warm sausage in batter was slightly over cooked making the batter too hard, my grandson was unable to eat them resulting in me having to drive to Risca to get more

Standards really have dropped. Had fish bites... there were two and honestly one was non-existent. Greasy and terrible portion sizes. It's such a shame as this place was always so highly rated.

Awful customer service. Waited for for 15 mins to find out they hadn’t even put the cod in 😂 only 2 customers waiting … will not come again.

The workers there were so lovely and welcoming and their food was amazing. Their chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. All around best chip shop I’ve ever been to and will definitely be going there again 🥰

Good quality food, friendly staff. The only down side is portion sizes. Large battered sausage and chips £5.60 came with a child size portion of chips.

Don't have fish and chips often, so I expect to have it as a treat. No treat here I'm afraid. Service was pleasant enough and cod was cooked to order. Not good quality and not pleasant to taste, just greasy. Chips were near white, undercooked I suppose, limp and greasy. How hard is it to fry crisp, dry chips with a bit of practice? Frankly I'm being generous with two stars, this isn't a mistake I'll make again.

Called for takeaway fish and chips, having bypassed my usual go-to, even as an occasional, because it was very busy. Tells its own story, I suppose. So thought I'd give this one a try. I was the only customer and cod was cooked to order. Really don't know which was worst, the fish or the chips, both greasy and unpleasant. Chips white, undercooked and just horrible. Is this how food should be presented, do the staff think? Dry and crisp is surely not that difficult? I'll queue for better quality next time, but certainly not here.

Warmed pie up as soon as we arrived. Ended up waiting over an hour and it was ice cold by the time we sat down to eat.

Fantastic friendly chip shop...fresh good quality food....very pleasant staff.

Be sure to turn up 1 hour before the advertised closing times as they'll have run out of chips and be unwilling to put another small batch in

Personal opinion - (others have said the same) the food is just off, I can’t put my finger on it but I’d rather eat out of a bin. The customer service is absolutely appalling. Which just tops it off. The blonde young woman is just rude and has disgusting attitude. I understand people have bad days but that girls attitude is just vile, not even a smile when you walk in, I wouldn’t even recommend my enemy to go in there. Overall, I’d advise going elsewhere if you want food you can actually enjoy. - to the worker that I am referring to, I would kindly suggest leaving the job if you can’t communicate civilly with the customers. Or maybe just fake smile if you want to keep the job. (Better than the negative attitude)

Absolutely disgusting fish and chips! Soaked in oil, chips zero crisp on them had to go back for fresh piece of fish as the first one was undercooked. Second one fish was cooked but batter just soaking in oil. Placed has gone right down hill sadly. Horrible taste in my mouth, pure oil. Avoid this place like the plague !!!!

Best chippy around!! I’ve ate here for years anyway and never had a bad meal! They offer so much more than your standard chip shop as well! Recently after being diagnosed with celiac disease meant that I miss out on some of my favourite take aways now but not here! It’s brilliant that they cater for people with this disease and at almost next to no extra cost and with some items no extra at all unlike many other places and products which are always double the price! Staff are always welcoming and friendly! I wouldn’t go anywhere else! Thank you so much for catering for us! I hope you’ll continue to do so :)

Only went here as Shepards was closed. Fish was OK but the batter on both fish and jumbo sausage was a little greasy, quite a few of the chips where small and hard. A bit disappointed

Tried here tonight as our usual chip shop was closed and this is now going to become our usual, it was so good! Food, service and cost is spot on - fish is cooked fresh to order, chips were very fresh and they had everything we wanted (including all curry sauces, peas and gravy). Service was outstanding, very friendly. Food was piping hot when we ate it, thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Best chippy in south Wales plus the meat is all cooked separately from everything so perfect for vegetarians.

As someone who suffers with food intolerances, it's really hard to find a takeaway that caters for both gluten and dairy free food. I have been getting takeaways from Pye Corner for YEARS! They are very knowledgeable with food allergies, they are always friendly and work extremely hard as it can get busy. It's great that you can phone ahead with your order if you need to. I wouldn't trust to eat from another chip shop, the food is always lush and portion sizes are good. Definitely recommend.

Pie Corner was recommended by family who live locally, we were excited to have a fish supper after a long day at beach (Rest Bay chippy are usual chippy after the beach!!) My 6 and 8 year old daughters described the Cod fish and chips as bland, I was in full agreement with them,, the batter was soggy?? and tasteless!! and chips could of been in for longer!! Really hope Pie Corner read the reviews and rethink their batter recipe??

the chips weren’t cooked properly, sausages in batter were cheap and tasteless Irish curry sauce was not Irish but just like chip shop curry and not as advertised, we won’t buy from here again

Always liked the food there but had fish a chips there last week and the chips were anemic.. completely ruined my tea

Pros: Gluten free (and dairy free) options, online ordering, low prices and generally good food. Cons: Wait times, poor quality cooking of chips and no obvious menu online. I do not live in the local area and am not familiar with this bar and this was my first time ordering/eating food from here. It was quite easy over the Pie Corner App. I was unable to find a menu online so was relied on the app itself which was generally easy to use. I ordered food for 5 people which, when I came in collect at the start of the collection window, was not ready for collection as the chips were not ready. I was happy to wait the 10-15 minutes it took for the order to be readied and staff were helpful and generally friendly as I had queries about the gluten free options (which are dairy free by the way). However, after having left and opening up the chips, I noticed that they were quite undercooked and not what I expected/wanted. I have added pictures of them to show what you might be served and to encourage people to check and get them to recook if it is similar to what I received. The rest of the food was satisfactory and I would also encourage people to get the gluten free fish as it is significantly more appetizing than the standard fish with no downside in flavour/quality. Overall, I would say that this fish bar was somewhat disappointing on account of the chips and the lack of a menu online meaning that I had to download the app. I appreciate that they are busy but there are notable wait times that should be mentioned and I feel that this could be countered with some form of automated system, more staff or more obviously dedicated roles in the bar with one person taking orders (plus giving wait times) and the other person expediting the cooking process and allowing for joint efforts in the preparation stage (and then serving). On a final note, it should be mentioned that there is a 60p surcharge for bagging your food which was not obviously avoidable on the app. I heard some customers specifically ask for their order to not be bagged and this appeared to be a slight surprise to staff who seemed eager to bag. Please be aware that you can avoid this charge by asking in person and coming prepared although it did not appear to be an option online. I would recommend this location for food noting the above.

I come here every Friday or Saturday to take fish and chips to my Bampi. I am often served by Gabriella and we enjoy a good natter whilst waiting for the food to cook. I’ve had no issue with the food served and my bampi has never complained about his fish. Pye Corner is a decent chippy and the staff are friendly. The place can be very busy at times and to cut the queue I usually call through the order. There are only two chippies I’ll visit in Newport and Pye Corner always first choice. All food cooked fresh.

Food is always great. However wait times are very long most of the time I've visited. Does mean everything is very fresh but on peak times you may have to wait 30mins or more for basic sausage and chips.

I never write reviews at all but I felt I needed to speak up as this is the first time I’ve called into pie corner fish and chip bar and the sausage chips and gravy I had was absolutely stunning I’ve I had to rate the food out of 10 10 being the highest it would be 15 out of 10 and the two members of staff that was on had outstanding customer care the premises inside and outside was immaculate I will definitely be recommending you to everyone I know please keep up your good work only thing that would make it better is if you had a shop closer to where I lived

Misses is GF intolerant. She found this please so we went to try it. Food was great. Fresh and hot and tasted great. The lady behind the counter couldn’t have been more helpful. Would recommend and will be returning when my misses gets the urge for chip shop chips again.

Hit and miss. Crispy batter on outside, uncooked pappy batter on inside and to much grease. Come back Phil Harding, things were always v.good back then. I will still use them but stay away from the cod. Ok for pie + chips and i do like there Irish curry when they make it right, but even that is runny and tastless sometimes. Hit and miss like i said.

A great little chippy, with friendly staff, good choice of meals (battered halloumi is a treat) freshly prepared (order your battered stuff as soon as you enter, they cook it fresh so there's a wait), and so close to the M4 we prefer it to the services (if only it had a loo...)

Im from Norfolk and travel for work. I called in here for lunch and turned out to be great decision , best chips iv had for ages if im back in the area i will be making an effort to return.

Really good chip shop with lots of variety, plenty of vegetarian and Vegan options. Had fish and chips and it was a solid 8/10. Very good.

Far too much salt on the chips....inedible Mince beef pie was revolting with loads of gristle and bone.....inedible Chicken curry.....what chicken??? Way too much salt.....inedible. Tried before but wasn't impressed, decided to give it a second chance.....NEVER AGAIN!! Feel like I've been robbed.

The fish and chips are freshly cooked to order so you will have to wait a few minutes but the quality makes it worthwhile.

Place really gone down hill since covid

My husband came here today and came home with what can only be described as double cooked shrivelled chips. I wasn’t best pleased I had had vowed never to go here again after me buying a family chip shop tea and that being swimming in grease. On contacting them via face book they had the cheap to say that clearly they are not to my taste! When good is freshly cooked they are not shrivelled, no one wants food swimming in grease. So if that is to your “taste” then go here but if this is your idea of food hell like it is mine best avoid. It’s a shame as I like to buy local.

Really rude young member of staff who must have forgot that plastic sheeting does not prevent customers hearing cursing or eye rolling regarding them . Not sure what I did to upset her so much as I only asked for cheese on top of the beans as my kids like them like that ! Sorry if she was my employee she be advised to get a job else where , shame as I always liked this fish shop but don’t expect to be openly insulted whilst buying a few bags of chips!!

My first visit to pie corner was left totally shocked at how small a large chips is. Don't get me wrong nothing wrong with the taste, but if ur hungry and think a large chips will sort you out it definitely won't from here. Definitely the smallest large chips I've ever had.

Always get our fish and chips from here, I’m coeliac but my hubby has the gluten free fish as well because the batter is so crisp and yummy! Very friendly staff, we get takeaway from here far too often!!!!!

My wife recently popped in to get a takeaway from pye Corner fish bar and was unfortunately quite disappointed with the portion size of the tray of chips 🍟 she was given. She asked for a large size and clearly wasn't anywhere near large. Apart from that it was OK but nothing worth more than a 2or 3 ⭐⭐⭐ at best. The cod fish sizes are average and cooked fresh. But overall need to up their game if they want to become an award winning takeaway..sorry if its a little negative but just an honest opinion ..

Very good system for covid management. Very good value for money. My only negative is the use of polystyrene trays, the move now is towards cardboard that is recyclable.

Chips were good as usual. However the batter on the fish was really soft. A bit disappointed that this wasn't cooked to order. The chicken was also soft and no option was given for it to be fried. I'd probably go elsewhere in the future. Overall quite a bad experience!
