Pickwicks is a hidden gem, and one of the only true British tea rooms left in the area. It’s really quaint with lots of character. I’m a coffee enthusiast, and no where has this many to choose from. Their coffee and tea selection is like no other, with lots of rare coffee beans (30+) to try. You can even request a specific bean for your takeaway coffee! Nowhere allows you to do this. They don’t charge extra for Oat milk which is a nice touch. Their cheese scones (which I’m told are homemade) are delicious, as are their jacket potatoes and sandwiches. The service is always exceptional, delivering an experience better than most places in Ipswich.

Popped into Pickwicks today because I was told they have a good selection of Coffee Beans. I bought a bag, almost £30 for a kilo. The staff member pealed off a label at the till and I didn’t think anything of it at the time? Just looked at the bag and it was the Sell by/Use by dates that was peeled off. I can only assume I was charged full price for out of date possibly even past Use by date Coffee. I definitely will not be going back there if this is their policy on food items???

Another good find allowing well behaved dogs in tucked away in a tiny side street near a church you could walk straight by it. We noticed the colourful two outside windows and tables and chairs outside first then walked in to a lovely welcome. Table service, and the choice of tea and coffee types is amazing never realized there was so many. We took in our tiny Cavapoo who was given a bowl of water and some biscuits so that was a good start. A varied selection of specials is also posted inside.

We arrived, there is no NHS QR code, which is now a legal requirement . The tables are very close together and when we asked about track and trace we were told there is a book but we weren't asked our details .Two tables who arrived after us were served before (we only ordered drinks) .... After the first the waitress apologised and assured us we were next and then served the other table... Sadly we can't comment on the quality of drinks as we left to get a cuppa elsewhere..

Popped in for an early light lunch, and was tempted by the cream tea! Quaint little tea shop, with real tea (and a strainer) and a good sized scone, with plenty of clotted cream and jam. I would probably have the scone unheated next time, but that is a personal thing, and I was given the choice. Service was good, and friendly. The toilet is upstairs, which could be an issue for those with limited mobility. Not sure if there is an alternative.

Called in here for coffee and cake with my partner who is gluten intolerant. I had the st clements cake and my partner had the gluten free victoria sponge, both were very moist and tasty. We chatted to the friendly ladies serving. I only have one suggestion from my partner and that would be to maybe have either cheese or fruit scones that are gluten free, as these are rarely available. Apart from that, everything was most acceptable thank you.

I love the food at Pickwicks, especially the coronation chicken, for which I would very much like the recipe! They do a beautiful chai latte and my favourite cake they have on offer is the chocolate orange and apricot cake. The service is always good too, friendly staff and even if it takes a little while it's only when they're busy which is understandable. Visited Pickwicks this morning with my husband. Not had coffee here for a long time. We were looking forward to our visit....however!!.....on stepping inside & approaching the counter there was no one in sight, only two customers enjoying their elevenses. As we stood at the counter there was lots of lively chatter coming from the kitchen area next to the counter. No bell etc in sight. My husband knocked loudly on the door frame of the kitchen. Loud chatter continued. Still no sign of anyone appearing!!! We felt we shouldn’t have to call out for some service so after waiting for 5 minutes or so....we left!!!!! We were wandering around Ipswich town centre recently and decided to pop in to the quaint looking Pickwick's Coffee and Tea House for a quick cuppa. The atmosphere here is quite cosy and service was friendly and polite. We just had a couple of small cups of coffee. The coffee macchiato was probably the smallest that we've had in a long time - just an espresso with a minimal amount of foamy milk on top. But I guess that it how a genuine coffee macchiato should be prepared...

As it was a cold day we decided to visit Pickwicks as we have enjoyed their food before and like to support small cafes. I had the macaroni cheese and 'selection of crusty breads '. There were 3 pieces of the same piece of not so crusty bread which was fine but not as per description. The macaroni cheese was tasty but perhaps could do with some seasoning and a tad more macaroni- delightfully warming and cheesy though! My husband had toastie and salad which he enjoyed but no knife and fork for his salad, and no offer of sugar for his coffee. Staff were friendly enough and service was ok. We will be back but look forward to things being back usual standard.

After seeing a film at Empire I was in the mood for a quick cuppa and perhaps a snack so as I passed decided to try Pickwick's. On entering I immediately was taken with the cosy atmosphere. There was a small table free so seated myself. Service was quick and I ordered my pot of tea, earl grey, and decided on just toast; granary bread and butter. Again service was quick and everything was good, perhaps I would have preferred one more butter pat. Although I was pleased I have only given a three rating as I wasn't wowed, and I was disappointed in the scarcity of vegetarian/vegan choice.

I’ve been here a few times now I know it’s here, I’ve found it varies in business but I’m always served with a smile and am made to feel welcome even if I’m on my own and I’ve now tried their cakes and scones which are all AMAZING! Read a review that said the scone wasn’t cheesy.. I don’t think they could have been at Pickwicks because mine was lovely. Not a bad word to say about this place and I’m known to be picky! Visited with my Family whilst on a pre-Christmas adventure into shopping land. So glad we called in here. The venue is like Doctor Who's TARDIS. The ground floor has an amazing feel with well used tables and chairs dotted around a huge selection of speciality Teas and Coffees and other related items. The upstairs has less tables but just as much charm but less foot traffic. The staff were great and willing to deviate from the small menu and specials board to cater for individual tastes or dietary requirements. This is the third review in 4 months to comment on the poor service. I really hope the manager considers this carefully and doesn't respond defensively again. I called in Thursday early afternoon for a quick coffee and piece of cake before catching my bus. There was only one other table occupied. At the entrance two women were standing and talking (quite loudly). They moved out of the way to let me in, and carried on talking. I sat at a table in the alcove for several minutes but no-one came. I went looking for staff in the kitchen. The women at the door parted and one came over to me and said that she worked there and took my order. Once I had finished and had to leave to catch my bus, there was no-one around. I found someone in the kitchen washing up. I said that I had left the money on their counter. This place needs to realise that sometimes customer's do have a limited time and in any case should not be left while they continue having private conversations with their friends. It probably didn't seem a long time to them but it is if you are sitting at a table waiting. The customer should be their first priority.

Popped in for a bit of lunch with my husband during our lunch break. The waitress came over to take our order, there was no smile, no hello, no pleasantries at all. We ordered a pot of tea, a scone for me and a sandwich for him. The tea was brought to us quickly, but one of the cups wasn't very clean. I was going to ask for another but as we didn't see anyone for a little while, I wiped it out with the one napkin we had between given the 2 of us. The same grumpy lady then came back to tell me they had no scones. She didn't ask if I wanted anything else, just simply to told me they had none. So I asked if I could have a toasted tea cake instead, to which she just kind of wandered back towards the kitchen without much of a reply. My husband then got his sandwich, which to be fair he said was very nice and it came well presented. I was also actually spoken to (by a different, friendly lady) and told my tea cake would be there soon. I went to put butter on it but noticed only one half was slightly toasted around the edges, the other half not at all, and it was barely warm (the butter didn't melt). I was going to ask for it to be toasted, but no-one came back to see if everything was ok (or even came back into the customer area at all). I nibbled at the edge that was actually toasted while we continued to wait and wait but still no one came from out of the back (the upstairs was closed and there are only about 5 tables downstairs so I have no idea what was consuming so much of their time). 45 minutes after we walked in the door, now worrying about getting back to work in time, finally the grumpy lady emerged and we said to her that the tea cake sat on my plate was cold and not toasted (which is only made worse by the fact it took 25 minutes to come out!). Rather than offer to put it right, she just began to argue with me that it had been toasted. As the whole visit had taken so long, we wouldn't even have had time to wait for her to put it right anyway (not that she even offered) as we needed to get back to work. This has to be the worst cafe i have ever been to (not just in Ipswich). It's a shame as it doesn't seem to be the food that's the problem, but the service (as I'm sure if properly toasted the tea cake would have been fine). For two people to go to a cafe for something as simple as a cup of tea and one food item each, and to leave without having had anything in a whole lunch hour is just silly. I am sure the person that served us cannot be the the owner (or at least I would hope not), as no-one would seemingly deliberately behave like this to a customer. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the person had handed in their notice, so therefore didn't care what happened to the business. In case the owner is interested (unless it was them that served me!), the waitress was a middle aged lady with dyed dark hair.

Going into Pickwick's feels a bit like stepping back into history, it's a traditional place with friendly waiter service and a good place to go for a tea or coffee with a cake. They also do small meals, so ideal for lunch too. Well worth a visit if you are in the centre of Ipswich.

A pleasure to have a coffee in a quaint and very English tearoom. No hussle and bustle, friendly efficient staff. Very historical too.

We wil always remember this place as an impromptu stop with friends to have a cuppa before the car trip back to London. Loved the service and location in the old town.

I never knew this place existed but was a great gem. I ordered macaroni cheese which was delicious and tasted fresh. Happy with the service, price and environment. Had a very relaxed lunch and will be returning.

This was the first re-visit to Pickwick's in a very long time. It was busy with all the downstairs seating and outside courtyard area full so we had to go upstairs. Was slightly odd as we were the only ones up there so no real atmosphere as such but it was quiet so we could have a good chat/catch-up. Service was prompt and staff polite. My cream tea with the warm fruit scone, jam and clotted cream was lovely and the loose leaf tea really good, nice and strong. My friends had sandwiches but they did both comment that they were slightly disappointed as they were fairly basic looking with no little extras on the side apart from a smidgen of greenery. A few crisps or little side of coleslaw/salad garnish would have given a real boost.

A lovely old building with loads of atmosphere. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. I often call there for a cup of tea and toasted Teacake when in town. There are two floors for customers, so do not be put off if it looks full when you enter, there is twice as much space on the upper floor. The service is always quick and your selection delivered to your table with a smile. The facilities are always spotless and well stocked, I've never had any cause to complain about any aspect here. Thoroughly recommended.

We visited today at lunchtime, attracted by the notice advertising the special "Aberdeen Angus beef lasagne with salad and French bread" for £6.60. The lasagne was excellent and we had a pot of tea with it. Highly recommended.

Been here a few times over the last month alone and with friends. Always a pleasure, very relaxing atmosphere, unintrusive service (no asking if your food is okay as you have a mouth full of food, hate that!) and friendly staff. Easily loose myself in a good book for an hour or two here with a couple of pots of tea . The food is always very nice, I have tried a couple of the salads, both were very fresh and yummy. A friend informs me the Risotto is divine! The cakes are always varied and very nice. I'm a tea drinker and the large range must be unique for Ipswich, was recommended one by the waitress to take home and is very very good. Definitely much better and traditional than the soulless chains seen everywhere !

My friends and I visited ipswich yesterday and discovered this gem. I love coffee and to find somewhere I can sample before I buy something new is wonderful. They also ground the beans to suit my machine....oh the smells of freshly ground coffee. My friends had sandwiches which looked lovely and I had cake. Gorgeous! It is such a lovely building with so much history. I will go back soon. Especially as they sell lovely tea, teapots and coffee pots. I have my eye on a few for presents. Oh...staff were lovely. It was busy so there was a wait but then if you want fast food go to McDonald's!

This coffee house is nothing special, it looks very traditional from the outside, once inside , the upstairs smells of damp and the menu is average - I ordered a "specialty" hot chocolate and paid extra - and it was a very average hot chocolate with cheap canned cream and cheap marshmallows on top, it was also not even hot, but luke warm. My husband ordered a Cafe creme and this was in an expresso size cup and was almost cold - very disappointing .

We regularly pop into Pickwicks for coffee/tea and cake. All cakes look and taste like real cakes - traditionally made and beautifully presented. We regularly sit outside in the sun, and the nice thing about this restaurant is that the waitresses wait on you and are not disturbing you every 10 minutes to ask if the food is to your liking, especially when you are tucking into it. The staff are always very helpful, and very knowledgeable about the vast choice of teas and coffees available - the staff always have a sense of humour - sadly missing in chain restaurants. This is the only place for miles around which sells loose tea and coffee to take home.

The food is excellent. Possibly the best fried slice I have had in ten years. Service was quick and friendly and tables outside work well. £9 for the lot is a great price too. I have been back twice since and experienced the same both times.

Just had THE most amazing dinner here! Food was absolutely superb, staff and service excellent. However… we were sat next to the main front door which was constantly in use and we seemed to be in a permanent draught 🥶.. really took the edge off the evening for me, as i felt I was in a walkway and it was chilly tonight. I’ll definitely ask for a table on the upper level if there’s a next time.

We stopped for lunch as in Ipswich on business. Lovely find, love the extra touches, seemed like a super friendly family business where they want to exceed expectation. Good choice of food and really yummy. Loved the cucumber water too. Will def go back next time we are there!!
