Pickle & Rye in Richmond upon Thames

Friendly young male staff, who can't retain information for more and sixty seconds. Manager who is disinterested and visibly irritated by feedback. I live ten minutes from Pickle and Rye, and have visited their restaurant six times since it opened. On 25.08.24, my son and I had returned from a tiring flight, and at 8pm I telephoned Pickle and Rye to place an order: 1 x burger with cheese and lettuce 2 x burger with cheese, onion and lettuce 2 x strawberry milkshakes 1 x fries I arrived at a fully staffed but entirely empty restaurant, to collect at 8:26pm to find that only two burgers had been made. The nice young man agreed to deliver the missing burger to my house when it was cooked. Arriving home, the burger with cheese, onion and lettuce contain no onions. This is an immediate replacement in my book. But it was a takeaway, so despite my astonishment that P&R can't take down an order accurately, we tucked in. The missing cheese burger arrived shortly afterwards, but it contained lettuce and onions, and no cheese. Also a replacement. But we were tired. We then opened the two strawberry milkshakes to find that one was strawberry and the other was chocolate with marshmallows. I threw this down the drain. I emailed the restaurant to tell them of our experience almost two weeks ago, and did not receive a response. So on 02.09.24 I popped in and spoke to the manager. She tried to conceal her irritation at listening to my complaint, and she assured me that she would check the emails and get back to me. A week later, I have heard nothing. I would like a response. Three items on the order were not correct. The order cost over £40.

Wr walked in to an empty restaurant (excluding a couple of small tables) on GCSE results day at 11am with our son hoping to celebrate with milkshake and pancakes. We were greeted by a friendly young server and asked if we could sit in the empty booth at the back of the restaurant. Our son was feeling pretty self conscious about being out with Mum and Dad and suffers from anxiety in general so the privacy of the empty booth worked well. We were unfortunately met with a slightly frosty response, from who we can only assume was the manager, who said that despite it being empty that it wasn’t really allowed for a group of 3. Whilst she quickly relented this unfortunately made an already anxious teenager feel unwelcome resulting in him being unable to eat. Because we were unsure how long he would stay only one of us ate resulting in two lost covers . Food ordered was good, service was friendly otherwise and the promised milkshake was ordered as a takeaway with the bill, but sadly the frosty reception spoilt a special occasion and means our son will be unlikely to return to a favorite Sheen haunt. :-(

The food was good, but was VERY disappointed with the milkshake. My children ordered a milkshake and chose not to have cream. The smallest milkshake was served for £7.50 (oreo) and £6.50 (chocolate). I noticed that those who had cream, that you do not pay extra for, had a larger cup and got a silver tin with more milkshake in. Not equitable and a real overpriced disappointment. Will not order this again.

The Salt Beef Reuben is juicy and flavourful, great sandwich. The buffalo wings are authentic with a great taste. It was however missing the spice, but still tasted amazing.

Really good food, mid price range. Would be nice if they had some sort of fry seasoning! Otherwise really tasty, highly recommend

i eat here often and like it. BUT the last time I was in the pancakes were so terrible that I should have returned them. Awful. I have been making pancakes since I was 5 and the batter is easy..plenty to melted butter in it and eggs, milk and flour..They we disgusting. Please please get this done like you used to. Not that hard guys.

My family are regulars here, we love it. Great food, friendly staff, wonderful atmosphere. We love the ribs! They are also gluten free alongside the wings and chips which we always have. The taco salad is great and the milkshakes are brilliant. The sandwiches are also delicious as are the desserts. Just love this place so much.

Too good not to share. We’ve been loyal foodies of this delicious establishment since 2018- before moving to this cool and hip location- and will continue as long as they are here. The food is always delicious and the service is excellent. They even have Super Bowl Sunday parties during the season and have such a cool vibe.

Had a couple of Reuben sandwiches to take away and it cost the same as a 2 course meal. Found the beef to be very salty and bread too sweet. Wont be back for a while I'm afraid. not for me.

Sunny outdoor seating and friendly service. We had a late brunch here with the Ruben sandwich being the highlight of our orders. Generous sized milkshakes.

As a local who ate frequently at old station location, took group of friends to 'show' them new Pickle & Rye and was embarrassed and did not enjoy our evening. We ordered food for 7 people and a group of 4 paralytic women came in at the same time for drinks only. The staff served them cocktails at the table next to us when they were already too drunk (likely not being served in the pubs nearby) and spent over and hour and a half screaming and hollering. The other family and couple eating at nearby tables were looking over uncomfortable and we couldn't hear ourselves talking. One woman was so drunk she fell off the seat and was laying on the floor, yet staff continued to serve them cocktails. Bars and pubs wouldn't allow such behaviour and I'm really disappointed a restaurant did as we weren't comfortable and couldn't talk amongst ourselves because of the volume. Our first time coming since new location and just didn't have the same magic. Food was good, but expensive for what it was. At the end of the meal we asked the staff to not serve them, as they were so drunk they seemed vulnerable, yet fresh cocktails had just been made and brought to their table. Very unpleasant to witness and experience.

Dined with friends for the first time, and we were all really impressed. Food and service was excellent. Virgin and Bloody Mary's to start, followed by the American breakfast, pancakes and the Salt Beef sandwich. All very good. What's not to like? We will be back!

From the first bite all the way to the last Crumb I was blown away. My only disappointment however was the last bite came to soon. Believe me iv travelled each corner of both UK & USA but had never came across a burger quite like pickle and rye. As a local I thought it would be great to support Pickle and Rye’s new restaurant and arrived 20 min before opening time to ask if I could book a table for my family. The owner couldn’t even look up to say hello and just shouted - we open at 5pm. I asked if we could book a table and she said - no, I’m busy setting up. She was extremely rude and unwelcoming. Terrible experience.

Fantastic ribs, really tasty chicken wings. Washed down with a great selection of craft beers. All served by incredibly friendly staff. Couldn't ask for a better neighbourhood restaurant right on our doorstep.

My partner & I Sat outside this delightful establishment & decided to have their beefburgers, We thought they were the best burgers we've had in a long time, absolutely delicious. The staff were charming & we will certainly return when we're next in East Sheen

I can say enough good things about this place. Amazingly friendly and attentive service, prompt delivery, super cool delivery rider and to cap it all some of the best wings I’ve had. I also had the buffalo burger and fries and unlike other more famous burger restaurants these fries were hot and not soggy. Price is very reasonable for the quality of food and service. I’ll be back.

Nos una mesa de 4 y tardé 10 minutos desde cuando el principal llegamos hasta la mesa final hasta el correo. La comida llegó fría y cuando le pregunté a la camarera si podía calentar, ella nos echaron para esperar hasta que todos los platos principales había llegado antes de empezar a comer. Me pareció que era común de cortesía. Ella era embarrassingly grosero y para evitar más enfrentamientos me pidió disculpas y me dijo que no se preocupe. Pagamos la cuenta y nos levantamos para salir cuando ella se acercó de nuevo a disculparse. El daño ya estaba hecho y a la izquierda y nos fuimos a la Ivy en Richmond. Realmente no hay bombo

Este es sin duda nuestro restaurante favorito y el mejor en 55-60 euros SW. La comida es la estrella, todo lo que tendrías en cualquier restaurante "estilo americano" pero sirve con creatividad y estilo que la hace un poco diferente. Una vez que has probado el profundo encurtidos fritos no querrás parar de comer.

Okay okay okay. So, I was in London with the lover back in July and we were staying with my cousin in East Sheen (really lovely btw recommend a visit). It's a nice wee suburb with plenty of good-looking eats and good-lookin streets. We noticed the Pickle & Rye as we came out of the station upon arrival and me being me instantly got turned on by the words 'pancakes' and 'half-price ribs'. From that moment my mind was made. I was getting me some pancakes. On the last day we were with my cousin we finally got up early enough (10am we're lazy teenagers k?) to go for breakfast.

I have to confess I've not eaten here yet but have used the venue for tea and coffee and as a meeting place as it is so close to Mortlake train station. Just seen some of the food though and it looks great.

Found it whilst looking for options for a nice Sunday breakfast as an alternative to a full English. Small and cosy, with awesome food (it is not always easy to find somewhere in London to eat crispy bacon smothered in maple syrup) and all at very reasonable prices. We had 4 different dishes so we could all try each other's and we were all extremely satisfied. Went back a week later to start going through the menu and the Rubbens sandwich was again very tasty! Can't wait to start trying out more items next time we return!

Viajamos solo media hora para visitar este lugar basado en los comentarios de tripadvisor y sin duda volvería otra vez.

No genial. El café era asolación y amargo, huevos escalfados estaban cocidas en diversos grados plato era frío, así tostadas también. No hay toallas de mano en el baño y banqueta de asientos estaba deshilachada, incómodo y extrañamente alta. Positivo fue que se hizo un esfuerzo para que sea más fácil para mí con mi hijo.

Ordered a deliveroo from here yesterday for my lunch. Thoroughly disappointed. Took much longer than expected for a quiet tuesday afternoon and when it finally did arrive the portion size (chicken burger and fries) was tiny and half of the fries had fallen into the burger making everything disgusting and soggy (due to squashing the burger and fries together in one small box). Won't be ordering again.

I have been to this place many times! If you like the American food go to this American restaurant and you should definitely try 3 things: burger, ribs and pancakes! I really like this place because the food is pretty good and the staff is lovely. It's always busy during the weekend and local people love going there for breakfast (especially the American pancakes).

Came for some brunch and had my first ever American pancake experiance. I ordered pancakes with blueberrys bacon and maple syrup... you think it's going to be strange but it tastes absolutly amazing. Lovely staff and atmosphere. Will defenatly come again when I'm next in the area!! Thank you x x

Needed a good hearty breakfast with friends before a long day on our feet. Excellent service, no rushing of us as we were leisure mode. The American breakfast was top drawer and poached eggs were poached not steamed. Only niggle the muffin on the eggs royale - bit stodgy/doughy- that aside all parties v happy. A good find.

I have eaten here many times.It is obvious the love and attention that is put into the food at Pickle and Rye.The quality of ingredients and the passion of the owner's is amazing when so many places are pretty average and lackluster these days. It's a shame I now live a little further away as I would be in here all the time.Fantastic brunches amazing sandwiches it's actually an insult to call them sandwiches..I'm now a pickle convert even had a go at making my own.Ignore the keyboard warriors on here validating their existence ...GO you won't be disappointed.A true breath of fresh air in London!

A cute little establishment with a good looking menu but the quality is far from living up to the prices. Portions also fairly small, overall would suggest finding elsewhere unless youre happy to pay a high price for a fairly standard sandwich. Don't know about the breakfast options however, might be better!

My partner took me here for lunch on my birthday, it's a cosy little place but with a nice vibe was busy when we came but the staff were friendly and efficient. Food wise I went for the small plate mac and cheese with bacon the flavour was good only disappointment was that it was a very small plate and not a lot of bacon, my partner went for one of the sandwiches which were of a good size plenty of filling, so if were to go again I'd have a sandwich. Overall though a very nice lunch.

Loved it! Food is well really good (blueberry pancakes a must), it was well priced, not pretentious like some of the other brunch places out towards Putney or Richmond, and had a really friendly feel. Service was excellent. Will be going back - very much want to try the half price ribs on a Wednesday...

We were delighted to find Pickle & Rye open on NY Day & enjoyed breakfasts & pancakes for the kids. Friendly service & good atmosphere. Made us tempted to come back and try burgers one afternoon/evening....just wish there was a kids burger option as full adult price burgers for the kids might feel a bit steep.

We used to come here quite a lot since they opened in E-Sheen a good while back. Some of our best moments are tied to this place: when we decided to start our family life there or our offer for our flat was accepted. we came back many times in the last 3-1/2 years and always enjoyed the food the company and the staff there.really good breakfasts and sandwiches (the veg with bacon and the Reuben are in my top5). you will need a very hearty appetite for those pancakes they are massive!But. As there is always a but, something seem to have changed and children especially new born dont seem to be welcome there anymore. a couple of example makes me think that the policy is changed.We had american friends in town during last thanksgiving and they were felling a bit of nostalgia so we knew there would be a special menu at P&R for that so we told them about it and tried to book. Alas on friday/sat night you cant have bookings with children not explanation given. i dunno if just for the occasion or as a normal policy, but i have to say that for a celebration that puts the family at the center that was a big letdown. I cant explain it as if you are a restaurant you shouldn't limit the clientele especially if you work in area nickname "Nappy valley". Today another episode. it's mid week right and the place is half empty. my daughter was fast asleep ( finally) so my wife thought to enjoy a quick lunch and a coffee before start the routine all over again and do errands all day. was told that it was not welcome as there would be too many prams in the premises. understandable if packed full, but and half empty place?I dunno what changed or if we have been really unlucky, but i have to say that the experience is getting worse and it really is a pity.except for this general feeling the place is endorsed 100%, hope they can find a bit more of the soul they used to have.

Great restaurant on so many levels. The food was delicious, decent portions, fun cocktails and very friendly service. The place  was bustling, but I had pre-booked and was seated promptly. It's very clear the owners are passionate about their business and take a lot of pride in it. This was my first visit to the Pickle & Rye, for a special Thanksgiving dinner, but looking forward to trying their American style breakfast!

Great lunch meals, quite querky and their service is great. Would recommend their omlettes. Nice to sit down and relax if you have the time.

This is the best sandwich shop in West London. If you want something that wouldn't seem out of place if it was served in a renowned Brooklyn eatery then Pickle and Rye is what you want. The fold was amazing and we were taken aback by how conscientious and efficient Valerie was in looking after us. She even showed us to the door and held it open for us on the way out!! So impressed!!

We were welcomed to our table by some lovely waitresses and were served amazing spare ribs, which were half off to our delight. Strongly recommended!

Effort in each dish shines through on each visit. Best breakfast ever, you pay extra for beans that are not included but it's worth it for pickle and ryes own recipe with molasses and pork I have never tasted anything like it.

Was very impressed with the menu at Pickle and Rye, such a great range and the quality of the meal that came out was high! My only criticism was one of the breakfasts did not include toast, but could be added at cost. £2 for a piece of bread is a bit ridiculous. Loved the guys that work there!! So friendly :)

I've been here a few times now but today stands out as a highlight. It was incredibly busy but we were seated with a smile, food arrived promptly and was up to usual excellent standards (I'm a big fan of the American plate - pancakes with syrup and a full English in the same plate ). We'll definitely be back!

We love Pickle & Rye & often bring friends here for brunch even though we no longer live in the area. The food is always good. It's an American style cafe with a set of impressive sandwiches (it's the only place I've ever seen my husband actively choose a vegetarian sandwich, the Californian club, over the salt beef Ruben or other meaty choices). It's run by an American couple who started with a small unit further up the street before moving to these larger premises right next to Mortlake Station (about 20 mins on the line from Waterloo/10 from Clapham Junction, it's worth a visit).In addition to their signature sandwiches they do things like buttermilk pancakes-normal or blueberry, big omelettes, full English brekkies, soup of the day etc. They are open in the evenings now too for a burger/ribs type menu. For this part I'd love to see a better vegetarian choice-currently it's a portobello mushroom and halloumi burger but the amount of times we go it gets a bit repetitive for me being veggo. The meat-eaters selection is good though, as you'd expect from an American style place. The breakfast/lunch menu before 2 or 3 pm is more extensive and my favourite. After this it's mainly burgers etc. I'm getting really hungry just thinking of the food now!!

This is a small friendly restaurant. The crew do everything to make you feel home.The food awesome and not pricey. You should try the Reuben sandwich, or if you vegan the Cali Club great for you.Breakfast also fast and delicious.

I've been here a few times. Lunch has been a bit spotty, it's never really packed, Brunch is absolutely spot on. Even smells like an American breakfast joint; real hash, pancakes, streaky bacon, they get it right for sure. Oh, they also have iced tea. Boom!

This place is brilliant, it may not look like much from the outside but the food is pretty special. It's not fancy but homely & friendly. Love the baseball caps on the wall & different American state mugs on each table. Lovely touch! The food is great quality & so reasonably priced. I have been here for breakfast & for a lunch. Pancakes are DIVINE and the American sandwiches are the real deal. My only gripe is that there are limited vegetarian & fish options. For meat lovers it's heaven!

Creative and tasty. Friendly staff and owner, too. The Toronto rocks and they use reallygood bread. Highly recommended.

Wanted something other than the usual full English and this place had oodles of choice. I had the New York scramble, eggs cooked perfectly. Other choices included omelette and eggs Benedict all well cooked. Service was fine, but they were really busy, mid Saturday morning, so a little chaotic, but not major complaints. We will be going back, this is the best breakfast you can get in East Sheen. Dishes come in at around £10 per head.

Great quality hot chocolate with all the extras and lovely eggs benedict with the eggs cooked the way you like just like in the US 20 questions to answer to get your breakfast.

My two twenty something children and I stopped in here looking for something other than a standard English breakfast (which is fine but gets old). Boy did we find it at Pickle and Rye!My New York scramble was one of the best breakfast dishes I've had in ages. Both kids loved their choices as well. And if you are a displaced American longing for actual crispy U.S. Type bacon, you will really love this place. P&R is small and busy, but well worth a stop.

Popped down on a dismal Saturday and was pleasantly surprised! Atmosphere was warm and friendly and the food was great.

This place is a little American oasis in an unlikely place in south west London right next to Mortlake station.I have been here a couple of times and i have not been disappointed.The service is friendly, the food is delicious and they do offers daily. You can try the burgers , the ribs, the sandwiches.I can guarantee you will not be disappointed, its value for money.

It is so hard to find a place that does American Deli style sandwiches in London but this little gem was perfect for a family lunch.the Reuben was lovely and the Pancakes that my son had were some of the best I have had. The staff were very polite and made the experience a very positive one. I will definitely be going here again!

Really disappointed. We are regulars here and feel the service has gone very down hill. Ordered burgers and asked for vinegar with our chips. The waitress had obviously given me syrup without realising...which I poured all over them. I haven't got a problem with that as mistakes happen, but when they realised their mistake there was no offer of new chips and I had to carry on regardless!! When we asked for bill she then gave it us and left the restaurant whilst others put chairs on the tables and continued to clean up. It was about 9pm on Saturday night!! We then asked to pay and they said they had taken off beans and gratuity. I wouldn't have paid a gratuity because service was so bad anyway! I don't normally do reviews but I have decided I won't go again, because the service was so bad. What a shame.

This place has such amazing breakfasts (not tried the dinner YET) So amazing that we based our house hunt around it because it just isn't a good Saturday morning until you've had Pickle & Rye

Ordered a home delivered Iowa burger and fries from Pickle & Rye as I was fed up with the usual Chinese/Pizza/Curry options. What a revelation! It was simply fantastic. In fact it was so nice I had another a couple of days later. Like all good things it's probably not for everyday but as a "once in a while treat" it is the business. Recommended if you live close to East Sheen.
