In Stevenson’s ‘Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’, duality is the remarkably prominent theme in Victorian London. Of course we see the duality between Dr ‘Henry Jekyll’, a scientist described as the ‘pink of the proprieties’ -in chapter 1- with his evil inner-self ‘Edward Hyde’. However, duality is perhaps more profound in that it seems omnipresent within the novella. In Chapter 4, a subtle reader could see that the conflict between the ‘chocolate coloured pall’ and the ‘wind’ is reminiscent of Dr Jekyll’s inner duality. The harsh guttural alliteration in ‘chocolate coloured’ is interesting as it creates a gravitas that seems at odds with the ‘charging’ wind. Moving away from setting, we even observe duality in the other characters of the story. Mr Utterson, although seemingly ‘dreary’ at face value is perhaps dual himself. We learn he has committed many ‘ill things’ which seems at odds with his conforming nature when we see him. Perhaps ultimately, Utterson stands in for any Victorian Gentleman. He represents how even the top of societal standards has an inner level of darkness. This is really what duality represents in the novella. Furthermore, I really liked the food at this restaurant. The meal seemed to really be dual itself. There was a contrasting sweetness in the desert that acted as a foil to the more savoury flavours of the main meal. It just goes to show... London hasn’t changed.

Piccolo One is a family run Italian café with 3 other branches in London. This one opp Marylebone Station rocks a 50s vibe with cute high bar stools along the window and 'foody 'murals on the walls. Very welcoming Italian staff, fast service and delicious food and coffee at v compatible prices. Buzzy, friendly place ,loved it

I also got short changed 90p now I look at it, though had walked off before I realised so didn’t complain. The food was ok, there appears to be a cost to add salad to a sandwich and the burger doesn’t have a bun or look great. Some staff were quite blunt.

I use this place regularly for a takeaway breakfast sandwich. which cost 1.90. If I pay note I always put the 10p in the tip jar. on four occasions now the change out of £10 has been 7.20, 10p substituted for a £1. Its corrected each time, but too much of a coincidence now.

Popped in for lunch before catching a train. The place was packed, which obviously speaks for itself. We ordered and paid at the counter before we were taken to a table. The food arrived very quickly; i ordered an egg mayonnaise ciabatta with salad my friend a tuna melt ciabatta. Both were delicious and fresh, the ciabatta was lovely and warm and there was a really nice homemade salad on the side. I also had a coffee which beat the big coffee shops hands down. It was one of the nicest coffee's i have tasted in a long time. Before we left we bought two rock buns to take away. They looked home made and again were absolutely delicious. The prices were very reasonable, lots of choice on the menu and very friendly staff. I will definitely be going back next time i'm in the area.

Have been a few times now, the breakfasts are phenomenal, top quality eggs/bacon/sauaages cooked to perfection, fast friendly service , . This place really gets it right and puts many to shame , there is a sports bar in the station that serves food at the other end of the quality scale, yet costs more, will be certainly be going back !!!!

Really fast and great service. Food is very fresh and tastes great. I love coming here when in Marylebone and they really do have a wide selection to choose from and it is fairly priced. What I like about this place is that they cater for all times of the day so whenever you come, its always good. I Will keep coming

Just over the road from Marylebone station, on the corner, this is a very small cafe in the traditional English style. The service however is anything but traditional, it is fast and efficient, even to the point of little order tickets. I ordered the breakfast special, at a fiver and fifty including tea or coffee it was the perfect medium breakfast. Bigger eaters will want to add a few extras to get the full English but regardless the prices are very reasonable for this part of London. The food is not fancy but it is good honest fare. You can't beat a good English breakfast on a winter morning and this cafe gives you that, without the hassle of places like Wetherspoons or the blandness of McDonalds. It is not the place for a quiet brunch but there is a comforting bussiness here.

I work near this cafe and it sees quite a lot of breakfast trade from us. Convenient for the station, lots of good food on offer, friendly, welcoming staff and a 'lovely cup o tea' lines up the day perfectly.

Visita si tienes hambre, no te decepcionará.

Our office is very close to this establishment and we all end up heading to this caf for the Chicken melt which is a beast of a lunch. Kev, who told everyone about the place goes there all the time. The owner, huge mustache is a great ambassador for how customer service should be done everywhere. Only criticism would be our favorite lunch has gone up in price. Saying that its a great lunch and still my favorite.

Normally I do not write about humble 'cafs' but it makes a point. Marylebone station in London is one of a whole bunch of stations that serve the whole of the United Kingdom. There are various food outlets inside the station but due to the high rents that have to be paid, the aim is to maximise profit - of necessity - so sometimes value for money is sacrificed. This remarkable corner cafe is just opposite. We stumbled on it at about 8:30 AM on a Saturday morning. It was full to overflowing but I noticed that almost everyone had been served. We entered, and I could immediately see that the service was very good indeed. There was a man with a moustache, I guess the owner, who was taking orders and firing them off to a small kitchen behind. I ordered a traditional English breakfast (though this can cover a multitude of sins) and it arrived hot within 5 minutes. The atmosphere was pleasant and everyone was chatty. I opened up a conversation with a couple of strangers with no difficulty. At was clear that a number of locals used this place regularly.I shall use this establishment as an alternative to buying an overpriced cappuccino and croissant in the station concourse. Well done people.

We recently stayed at the Rubens at the Palace Hotel and it was such a pleasure. From the cleaning staff, front desk, concierge, doorman, and all of the personnel in the restaurants and bars, every single person was very polite very helpful and very accommodating throughout the 10 days that we stayed there. Each evening after we returned from our daily activities, we were greeted like family. Soroosh was waiting in the restaurant eager to get us beverages and any late snacks we might want, even near closing time. I would highly recommend staying here not only because of the great location but mostly because of the great people you will meet there.

Kom tilfældigvis forbi en tirsdag formiddag. Kaffetørstige. Den tørst blev slukket af den bedste kop kaffe, vi har fået i London. Tillige en super god betjening i en skøn atmosfære. Tak for kaffe.
