Piccolinos in Warwick

I happened to be coming to Leamingon yesterday to meet my sister who lives in Manchester and - always keen to find good Italian food - I booked for Piccolinos. This is a real find! Its has amazing, really authentic Italian/Sicilian food and a delightful atmosphere, with evocative prints and photographs from Italy on the walls. We're both vegetarian and couldn't have chosen better. We shared a Caponata and a Melanzana Parmigiana and both were honestly as good as any I've had in Italy. The roast potatoes with rosemary were terrific too. And then the puddings...well! A completely delicious Amaretti Gelato confection and a lovely and unusual brioche/Gelato sandwich. The service was efficient and charming and the whole experience was a delightful surprise. Finding little independent restaurants like this with such terrific cooking is one of life's genuine pleasures! We're already planning our return....

They have been running for years, I suspect they have repeat custom and there aren't many non-chain Italians in the area.

We booked a table for a birthday meal. The service was slow, and only 3 other tables were being used so not busy at all. The man taken our order, I needed a child portion due to surgery, he was clearly not happy with this and made it known. The portion was so small it would have been adequate for a 3 year old max. The food was lovely but took such a long time to come out. We left the restaurant at 20:30 as we felt that he wanted us out, the lights were turned off the the bar area and he was heard to tell the waitress to get the table next to us to pay their bill. I felt he was rude and the 2 waitress’ didn’t want to be there, not one smile, or polite manners between them. I would not visit this restaurant again, I’ll stick to Warwick

My wife and I had lunch here twice recently. The food was good and the young waitress delightfully friendly and helpful. So why only 3 stars? Because the wine was simply foul. Battery acid comes to mind. I had to send the glasses of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo back both times, something which I have never had to do before, and the second time we chose the Merlot instead, which was equally awful. Next evening we had a perfectly good Merlot at the Rugby Tavern, a complete contrast and a reminder just how bad the wine at Piccolino's was. It spoilt two otherwise very enjoyable meals. I have edited my review in response to the owner's reply, removing my mistaken comment on VAT, for which I apologise. However, I make no apology for my comments on the wines. I am not a wine snob, but have been drinking wine for 60 years a and been a member of The Wine Society for half that. So I do know the difference between good and bad wine. Both the Montepulciano and the Merlot were the latter. And the Amarone referred to was priced at over £70. Not a choice one is going to make.

Great food at reasonable prices and good drinks menu. Had a spaghetti meal which I know for sure that I can never make at home, at least not like that.

ive been going to piccolinos in both leamington and warwick for many years and always found the service and food very good. All round hearty italian food. some friends of mine had booked a large table as were were a large group for lunch at the leamington restaurant we'd been given a large table in the basement part of the restaurant we had 3 staff look after us and they are all friendly and helpful only some of us had starters but those of us who did, they were freshly cooked and tasted great we all had mains and looking around i saw lots of clear plates! noone had pudding as we were all full but overalll, another lovely meal at this place with friendly and helpful service.

Very poor and slow service. One meal sent back as it was not hot and another not eaten it was so dry. Very disappointing experience.

So let down by a restaurant I have been going to since I was a child. Usually the service is very slow, but this has always been forgiven because the food is so good and never changes. On this occasion however, the Bolognese had clearly been made with very cheap mince and the kids pizzas only had 3 slices of mushrooms on and they charged extra!! Making a kids meal over £10! Unfortunately the money grabbing nature of the owners is very telling now - bad quality but prices continually being raised. I appreciate with the climate we are in that prices will go up - but for prices to go up and quality go down is not something I am interested in. We will go elsewhere for our Italian food in the future sadly.

I don’t normally leave reviews but I believe it is important that everyone knows to avoid this place. My husband and I were seated near the bar area and to say we were both disappointed would be an understatement. This man who we could only assume was the owner was not only unprofessional in his appearance and demeanour but also in the way he treated his staff. It was a very busy evening and a severely understaffed restaurant so we were expecting a slight wait time however this potential owner was making everyone’s experience worse, he kept shouting at and belittling his staff who were already overwhelmed and needed to get on with their job as the owner clearly didn’t have a purpose and he was pacing and making both staff and customers uncomfortable. When my husband and I’s food finally came out we were severely underwhelmed yet again. I ordered the carbonara and it was like soup with the amount of cream, very little flavour because of the sheer amount of liquid. My husband had the monkfish and they must not own any seasonings in the kitchen because every component was bland and unsatisfactory. To top it all off, we both severely lost our appetites because of the arguments we could hear with the staff. The poor waitresses were trying so hard and were rushed off their feet but were constantly being attacked by the owner but he himself did nothing, very hypocritical man. We were made very uncomfortable by this commotion and could not finish our food as a result of it, I would say it was a shame to let it go to waste but it wasn’t really. Overall it was a very poor experience, the food was definitely not authentic Italian and it was very mediocre, the service was appalling but I must emphasise this was through no fault of the servers, if they were fully staffed and then left to do their job instead of constantly being berated by an unprofessional and unpleasant man our experience may have been better. Rubbish place to spend our night but we’re both just glad we don’t have to work there! Feel very sorry for everyone that does as it even looks like one of them developed a serious injury on shift but was not sent home or even given a rest considering it was a head injury. Honestly appalled!

First time here, I would not return. The food was okay however the staff were clearly under a lot of stress. When I asked a waitress if she enjoyed working here she said that she did but I wasn’t convinced from the way she spoke, The owner clearly needs to take responsibility and make a nicer and supportive environment for their staff, if a customer can see how unhappy the waiters and waitresses are it is simply unacceptable and should be fixed! The food was insanely delayed, we waited ages for our starters and then when they finally arrived our mains turned up at the same time! There was also an older gentleman who was roaming around with grey hair, he looked quite unpresentable and angry, little did I know when I asked another waitress who he was i found out he was the owner!! Totally unacceptable, not an environment I would take children or in fact, anyone!

Dissatisfied because pizza was burnt

I went here with a group of my friends for my friends 60th and I have to say the way the owner treated the staff was appalling. I had half the mind to confront him about it! He would shout and be so confrontational that it made me nervous! I wouldn’t dine here again just because of him! The rest of the staff seems lovely so he’s obviously the issue.

The food and drinks are really, really nice. The location is ok with convenient parking a few minutes away. It’s a short from the train station or a longer walk from the town centre. The only disappointment is the service. It takes ages to order your food.

Reasonable prices, food was good. Pizza bases are unique. Arancini was not as hot in the middle as they could have been, perhaps making them smaller would mean easier cooking. Service was poor, multiple forgotten dishes and an extra pizza added to the bill by accident, however I don't believe this is standard, perhaps we had a new staff member. Overall a good experience with nice food. Would still return.

I placed an order for delivery and paid £20 plus service charge and delivery, and I was expecting an Italian quality 12'pizza. We received a small pizza, which even my younger boy would not fill him up. I went myself in the shop to give it back as I didn't want to leave it like that. I was greeted by an army staff, probably students, which I hope are paid for their work, which surprised by me bringing the food back. I spoke with the owner, I think ,who was trying to explain to me about the quality of their products.... the oven and the trays they have for the pizza's are the same as any kebab shop or takeaway got. It is so misleading that is Italian, we have eaten better pizza's from other places. Also, the owner customer service skills are missing. He offered to make my order again and I refused that due to the quality of his product and he told me to go somewhere else and to leave his restaurant that he calls the police. As much as we want to support local businesses, they also have to be sensitive with their prices.

Food lovely. Service absolutely shocking! We were a table of 7 celebrating our daughter’s 21st birthday. We asked three different waitresses if we could order food, all three of them disappeared and didn’t come back. In the end my husband had to get up out of his seat, go upstairs and ask if we could make our order. It was over half an hour before we got our drinks and two hours until the food arrived! No one cleared any glasses or asked us if we wanted anything. We asked twice for a jug of water which then took 20 minutes to arrive! Absolutely terrible service, we will not be back!

The ravioloni ricotta e spinachi is absolutely divine. My favourite pasta dish ive ever had 10/10. The other pasta is here is incredible too, but the ravioloni is my absolute favourite

We have been using Piccolino’s as a family for nearly two decades now. It’s always been our favourite restaurant. We had pizza for the first time in a while yesterday and the food was absolutely awful. We requested no pepperoni on one of the pizzas which was still added to it. The pizzas were also flat, burnt and had way too much cheese on them, the cheese was like rubber/leather and there was literally no tomato base on the pizza at all. It was just like a thin layer of bread with a thicker layer of rubbery cheese. It was that bad I didn’t eat it. Apparently here is a new chef who’s still “learning”. If you eat here I would request your food to be made by the more experienced chef. Because the new chef cannot cook. I could make a better pizza myself at home. So disappointed spending £60 in total for really bad food. Please consider replacing this chef - they are obviously not experienced enough to provide quality food to your customers.

Went there with work colleagues for dinner. The service was very good. Food was great quality. I've ordered Risotto with ham and gorgonzola and it was delicious. Portions are OK. For dessert I've ordered tiramisú and it was very good also.

As a single diner, I was made to feel very welcome by the staff, especially Rocío. Food was delicious (lamb in ragu pasta - can't remember the full name 😁) dessert - at las a canolo, delicious. Great atmosphere. Friendly. ❤️

Party of 4 adults and 4 children, we were a last minute booking and were able to be accommodated. Great! However, we were seated for a full 50 minutes before any orders were taken despite asking 4 separate members of staff if we could order, 1 one which was after they tried to bring us someone else's food. Long (long, long) story short; 3 hours for 2 courses each, drinks were obtained mainly by making trips to the bar ourselves, one table adjacent got up and left after their starters as the mains were taking too long, we ended up clearing our own table after our starters, only one member of staff offered any apology or explanation of the situation and we got a gratuity of 10% after asking for it at the bar (where we were paying the bill as once again the two separate people we'd asked to bring the bill totally failed to do so after 25minutes). One star for the food, which was delicious (once it had arrived) and one for the one member of staff who seemed to care about customer service and experience. Thank you to that lovely lady.

Evening started well but went downhill as the place got busier. Starters of 2 cheesy garlic breads were lovely. Husband had Sicilian chicken as a main which he enjoyed, bit too much salad probably to fill the plate though. My main was a large meat lasagne served in an approx 9 x 5 inch oval dish. Lots of bechamel sauce and lasagne. Some tomato at the bottom. Just 12 to 15 small pieces of minced before in the whole dish. Nothing resembling a meat layer at all and did not taste of meat. Very disappointing and we won't be back. My final glass of wine did not turn up after 25 minute wait so we paid up and left.

Absolutely appalling :D when we got there we had to wait 1 hour to order our drinks, then after 5 trips to the counter to remind them of our existence and FINALLY got it. 2 hours later, we got our food and it was... Let's just say a mouse would be depressed by the food size. Tasted mediocre. Then came the peice de resistance. The desert. I asked for a large nutella pizza and I got a tiny monstrosity that could easily fit inside my fist. I ate it in 1 bite. Leamington has a lot of really nice restaurants and this is why I'm never entering their place again. No wonder it is so hidden away.

Booked here for Valentine's Night meal was amazing as always. Very tasty, great price and friendly service. Highly recommend for any occasion.

Had to drop stars as really cannot get over the price for a soft drink it's crazy money every thing else was great just like everywhere prices have gone up

I can recommend Al forno & Cannelloni, both were very good sized portions & lovely meals The service was good. Worth a visit if you are in Royal Leamington Spa.

Haven't been since moving from Leamington spa. Went twice in three days so it was that good. I was hoping it would be as I remembered from 17 years ago and yes it was spot on.

I came here for my work Christmas do! We all loved the food and the service was great I would definitely recommend it! Food is definitely worth the money :)

Wonderful family meal. They couldn't do enough for us

Walked out with my wife for a nice dinner and went past Picolinos which was busy so thought we’d give it a try. The staff are lovely and found us a table for 2 quickly, but that was about the most positive thing about the evening. Wife had the chicken Parmagianni which she pretty much finished, and I had the large cannelloni which came encased in melted cheese meaning that the pasta tubes had disintegrated into an eggy slush with little ragu sauce. The mozzarella garlic bread was served “rustic” in tin foil. Had to ask for more drinks when our first round was finished. It was busy so others must have enjoyed their meals, but there’s other family style Italian restaurants where the food is tons better, or like Prezzo if you just want “chain style” Italian food.

I was expecting a family run home made meal, which when I visited the Warwick branch… it was exactly that… but leamington was a very different experience. The pizza was American thick pan style, not what I expect from a family run business, the lasagne had clearly been frozen and was tasteless..: very disappointing The starter and desserts were reasonably good. Service was slow… and no one asked if the food was ok… I can now see why from the other reviews… won’t be coming back… what a shame

Pleasant setting but that’s the only positive thing I can say about this restaurant! We were attending a gig opposite at the assembly and thought this would be a good place to eat. We had plenty of time and didn’t need to rush , or so we thought !!! The service was awful , had to wait an eternity for drinks and order our food. There were plenty of staff but obviously not attentive enough. We ordered a starter to cone with the main but this was served as a starter. My wife was served her main and I had to edit for mine , and wait and wait and wait!!!! In the end I had to call the waiter over and it appeared that my order had been lost!!! My wife had almost finished her meal by the time mine came. I was not offered an apology or complementary drink or anything. I was then offered someone else’s food!!!! When my pizza arrived it was not thin crust as I had ordered. The food was adequate and no more and certainly not value for money. I did complain but was not offered any complementary drinks or anything, just given lame excuses. We observed a lot of traffic from food delivery staff in and out . It seems that they can’t cope with serving customers and dealing with deliveries at the same time. The manager did come over at the end to apologise and said he would take 10 percent off the bill got our poor experience which was too little , too late for me Never again Shame it is a lovely little setting

Unfortunately, hair in one dish, and beef (veal) in another when they said it was Dear (venison). These are critical errors and deeply hurtful in the latter case for religious reasons.

Food is not that good, waiters don’t even ask if food is okay and if there is anything wrong with it they charge you anyway. Customer service from the owner is garbage. Take it from someone who is born and brought up in italy.

No mate, she came out the kitchen and had dark long hair in a ponytail with no protective net whatsoever or apron, and I found dark long hairs in my pasta, How's this possible in a restaraunt?. This is a physical hazard that could cause food poisoning, cooks should wear protective nets to not serve people a side of hair with their pasta.

Waited 24 hours to give the opportunity to the manager of shift to call me in order to explain my experience, I feel forced to share my opinion publicly. Arancini: overcooked rice with no flavour or colour of saffron at all. Fried calamari: not great with SACHETS of tartar sauce. Seriously? frutti di mare: tasteless that I questioned myself if I was eating chicken, tasting of so much vinegar of already made vegs in pickled jar. Piccolinos pasta: sword fish with horrible taste in your mouth, dry, that reminds you of something heated in the microwave. Linguini with sea food: tasteless for being a sea food dish, no wine taste either. Didn't get asked how the food was, which really worries me, even when i asked the bill and left the mains on the table. We, sicilians are not like this. We are truly proud of what we do and we do care of your experience. Not here apparently. Paid the whole bill even if I shouldn't as a real gentleman. Asked to speak with a manager and got told no body was available. Left some notes with my number on a piece of paper after leaving but they seem not to care. Please choose another restaurant.

Wow, I have eaten at piccolino’s when it first opened in bath street. The food is still good ish but the prices are well overpriced and quantity minimal. I don’t think I order again. Thanks for the previous years

We had a dinner with my wife in this place. The wine was good., because it is impossible to spoil procecco. But they can overboil pasta in “Norma pasta” with swordfish - Mamma Mia ! Questo è terribile! Did not order sword fish there, they do not know how to cook it. The desert cannoli was not good at all. The personnel is nice, but I am very disappointed.

Service was good. Some of the food was ok but microwaved pasta dishes or old reheated pasta sauce is sad. It is obvious most dishes are based on reheating frozen food because you cannot smell or hear any cooking at all apart from dry pizza. It lacks atmosphere and needs a fresh start.

Awful food. Owner was awful but had a very very cute 13 year old son. Would only come back to see him.

Really really bad. The food is very average. The pizzas are no different to ones you’d make at home with frozen supermarket dough. They are also ridiculously small. I genuinely thought it was a kids pizza. £28 set menu for a shared platter and a small pizza!! It was expensive for what it was and the staff showed no real interest in the fact we were celebrating an occasion. Leamington has far far better restaurants.

Stumbled across this family run, independent Italian restaurant in Leamington Spa on a busy Sunday and had the perfect lunch. A warm welcome from two friendly and polite young staff. Pleasant atmosphere and excellent service was matched by probably the best pizza in town. The salad was amazing too and there was a great selection of drinks, hot and cold, cocktails, beers and wine. Search this one out and you won't be disappointed.

The food is great. The prices are well above what you would pay in the rest of the world for an Italian meal. This is not central London, New York or Hong Kong! The funny thing, the service is not included in the final bill.

Personally I think one star is too much. As soon as we walked in we were virtually ignored. Brushetta was just bread with a single topping, tasteless. Some of the food was brought out and then 2 of us were asked what we ordered, another 10 mins. I ordered the cannelloni which was horrible. Over cooked and resembled lasagne. Tasted like pepper. The other meals, salad was dry and pizza had so much cheese on it you couldn't taste anything else. When they collected the plates I told them my food was horrible and the response was " ok ". No one asked why it it was horrible. In fact nothing from anyone. I went to pay and no one spoke, not even a goodbye. Not one person asked what our evening was like. How this place stays open is beyond me. Chef...learn to cook. Staff....learn some customer service. Way overpriced for what it is. Will not be recommending it to anyone. Sorry no photos

Overall, our dinner here was a very disappointing experience. There are many better options locally at this price point. We found the quality of the food to be very poor. The pizza was terrible, only marginally better than take-home frozen supermarket fare. Not at all Italian. I found the fish very bland. Unfortunately it had been massacred by cooking it to the point where it would have been better suited to resoling shoes than for human consumption. Drinks were ok, neither particularly good or bad. Beer was sufficiently cold. The service was mixed. While friendly, they got our order wrong and then tried to bill us for their error (which was more expensive). We will not be making a return visit.

The good news first! The service was reasonable, but it went down hill rapidly after that. The Calamari we had was tough, chewy and only just warm and the presentation with tartare sauce in sachets, then our local fish and chip shop could have done better. The pizzas were like eating cardboard, with very little taste at all. For a Friday night it was close to empty and I understand why now. No one asked how our food was and we would have complained, however we had elderly friends with us who had selected the restaurant and they would have been very upset if we had. It was 20 years since we last went and we wont be going back I am afraid.

Absolutely dreamy home cooked food with decent service is a relaxed atmosphere! Do recommend do tell a friend! My only worry is I’ve eaten so much I’ve given myself a food hernia but no regrets

Mamma mia, che vergogna chiamare Ristorante Italiano,.... la peggio spazzatura inglese... garlic bread, bruschetta al forno con pomodoro e peperoni, pizza ananas e gammon, tagliatelle frutti di mare con panna e frutti fi mare che non ci sono,tagliatelle carbonara con panna bacon e vino e aglio, che vomitare 🤮 , vergogna a dire Ristorante Italiano....

Called in here as we were early for a train and what a find it turned out to be. The service was very good and relaxed. My friend and I both had pastas and we both really enjoyed our dishes. The wine they recommended was also excellent and we had a very relaxing and tasty lunch. I wish I lived nearer so I could visit regularly. As I need Gluten Free food it’s often a struggle to find good food, but here it’s no problem at all. There were GF pizzas and I could have any sauce with GF pasta. I choose the Al Forno and can highly recommend it. What I hadn’t realised was I had dropped my passport at some point during lunch, and continued my travels not realising it had fallen from my bag. The following day I had multiple messages to tell me they had found it. My very special thanks to Alissa who did the hard work in tracking me down. Thank you for your honesty and all the trouble you went to. My passport and I are now reunited. Thank you everyone at Piccolinos. Good luck with everything.

Service could have been a bit quicker, seemed like we were sat around for a while at times waiting yet other tables around were being well looked after!

It was okay, though the staff seemed a little inexperienced. I have normally been to the branch in Warwick which feels more professional and to be honest I think the food is normally better too... I would definitely recommend that one ahead of Leamington. UPDATE: Went back a few months later and the theme has really continued.

This was absolutely wonderful. We visited with friends, hadnt been before amd the food was amazing. The service was great, everyone was friendly. If we were to go back to leamington spa we would return here for sure.

Lovely food, lovely atmosphere.

We have recently moved to Leamington and we’re really excited to visit as it’s always so busy! Have never reviewed anywhere else below 5 stars and never complain but feel we have to share our experience. When we walked in the door, we were not greeted, just stared up and down for a good few seconds. White wine was warm, no cutlery was given to us. Server was absent 90% of the time. No server appeared to know what the tables numbers were so servers were embarrassingly going to every table and asking what they had ordered. Paid £9 for “fromaggi fritti” which was advertised as a selection of cheeses but was 3 small deep fried cheese balls. Pizza cost £16 and looked and tasted supermarket bought (were students so are experts on supermarket pizza) , so clearly not authentic Italian!! Not once were we asked how our food was. No check back and no one asked when the food was cleared. As people with experience in hospitality, we appreciate people have bad days so we never leave bad reviews. But this was a clear lack of care and basic training of staff. Very disappointing, overpriced meal, particularly the oven pizza

Very sad to write this, over 40 years been eating here, pizza was over cooked, garlic bread burnt, always always been consistent, Dominic must be devastated if this is what has become, latest reviews I can only agree with, sorry, expensive toast

Arrived, white wine at £30 per bottle arrived warm, was asked did we try any, yes just a sip as it was warm, was then replaced with a slightly colder bottle, not good. Main course arrived, menu said fresh vegetables, they were deep fried, even the waitress didn’t know what they were. Said that both the mains were poor, no apology they just walked away. £28 for one slice of veal and sauce that tasted like it was out of a tin. Will definitely not bother again neither recommend, ver poor.

Shocking service here, and such a shame as the food was great when it finally arrived. Menus and drinks took at least half hour and just to get a share bread starter at least an hour. They were unapologetic 1 hour and 10 mins post...

The Best takeaway pizza in leamington spa.

Great place for true Italian food. Pizza dough was first class. They have some interesting choices if it comes to regional Italian drinks.

Went for dinner with a colleague last week. Nice relaxed atmosphere, excellent service, pleasant staff and above all great food. Wide choice on the menu from pizza to steaks good choice of starters and deserts. Really enjoyed all of mine; Tre Bruschetta, Pollo alla Siciliana...

The pasta was quite average and the pizza was really disappointing. I paid £18 for a 12 inch pizza which was no better than a Viali's takeaway. Based on the food we had I couldn't recommend anyone to go here. Just go to Zizzis or La Copolla if you're feeling extravagant

Good pasta dishes. A bit overpriced for the place and the quality of the food but one of the better options in the area. Great that they sell litre carafes of house wine and with friendly not-in-your-face service.🍷🍷

Food absolutely lovely, I ordered something spicy and was delighted that it definitely had a potent kick. Ambience of the restaurant was spot on too and felt authentically Italian. Though did find it hard to get the attention of the servers

A very authentic place that’s been in the heart of Leamington for decades and also Warwick. Run by a true Italian family you can get a bit of the taste of real Italian food. Prices are definitely above average, but for a true experience it’s worth it.

Disappointed. I agree with some reviews here when they say the food is not Italian. We ordered rose wine and it was not cold enough. The starters, my seafood salad, the octopus just couldn't be eaten so hard and the main course I ordered arrebiata and it came with spaghetti, extremely spicy and the tomato sauce tasted like tomato sauce. Also, the waitress didn't come to the table once to ask if everything was ok. I will not come back.
