Food is generally good though they frequently mess up takeaway orders and are quite unapologetic when you point that out to them.

Superb food and excellent service from this family who have served the community for many years. They are our Chinese eatery of choice. The food is always hot and well cooked always refer friends to this restaurant and take away......Simply the best

Had the best Chinese takeaway from here the other day. Good selection of dishes and prices are good for what you get. Honestly the best Chinese around and would definitely be going back for more. Very friendly and great customer service too.

It was a disappointment when the Pholik closed late last year, so the eagerly awaited anticipation of the re opening did not disappoint, the food was of the same excellent quality with only a slight increase in price, with a very attentive service. Well done Me Me and Sonny, l wish you good luck for the future with my best wishes. KT

just now NEW I have been going to the Phonlik House for roughly 25 years and it is still, to this day, the absolute best meal going. I now live in London, but every time I come back to Solihull I insist on ordering a meal from this restaurant. The people who run the place are wonderful, and the food is always fantastic. I have eaten at some excellent restaurants all over the world, but I’ve always considered the Phonlik House to be my favourite place to go. This is a brilliant restaurant with great service. A local legend. Just eat here and love it!

Sat 17 December 22 place was empty food and restaurant both cold sat there in my overcoat , after 10 min decided to Leave as did the 4 other people who arrived after us , then got a load of of insults from waiter telling me I could take the food home and reheat it ?? Never ever again, whatever it was in the past as gone , terrible food and atmosphere

Excellent food at reasonable prices

Friendly people, tasty food, huge portions! The only thing stopping it getting five stars was that it was a bit cold, with energy costs as they are now I wouldn't be surprised if that becomes the norm in many places.

I came here last month with family members. It is a pleasant place to eat. The owners were very friendly, and gave us a good welcome. Food good, if a little bland. It could do with some decor for those who eat in.

Awesome, the food and service where outstanding

It has come to this point, I'm having to write this review. Having been regularly visiting this restaurant, recently on 3 occasions we have been told there are no tables available when only 3 tables were occupied, and on one occasion being a Saturday, we were told we should've known better to book. All of this happened in 2022. We find the staff extremely rude and abrupt, no appreciation at all, given the times are getting harder. They don't deserve my money. On many occasions whilst eating, staff have come over to our table to take away our dishes and then apologising as it was very clear we hadn't finished our meal. Every visit seems very rushed from the moment we sat at the table and constant prying eyes, it becomes a little off when you realise the staff keep looking at your table, as if we're going to run off with the table and chairs. Yet, they are pleasant with people collecting their take away. On several occasions in the past, we visited only to have coffees, and on our last occasion we were told they never serve only coffee, we have to have a meal. So what happened to the previous times when we ONLY had coffee??? NO LONGER RECOMENDED!!! It is very clear the owners don't want to be there, one would think its time to sell.

This restaurant never fails to deliver. We've been coming for over 20 years. We tried different dishes and all were flavoursome and delicious. Great service too, staff very attentive and helpful. Best Chinese food in the area.

Food bland, chicken was tender which was one positive. Ordered a special curry which consisted of chicken, two mushrooms and onions. Not really what was expected. Asked staff and was told it was a special curry! Wont be back!

We have been loyal and regular customers at the Phonlik for many years. However our visit at the weekend left us utterly disappointed, ripped off and sadly we will not be returning again. The food was tasteless and of very poor quality. If you are trying to cut corners to try and gain some revenue back - dont do it! It will backfire and you will lose many more customers. The head waiter was also very rude and curt and couldnt wait to get us to eat, pay and leave, that was very obvious.

As above disgusted last time I will visit this restaurant.I purchase two fillet steaks with curry sauce. Salt & pepper ribes Cost me £35. Take it home could not eat it disgusting. We have all way supported. This restaurant so now after 26 years of supporting them no more. Learn a lesson phonglic. Respect your supporters. I will never darken your door step again. Fantastic food and friendly service

We have recently started using the Phonlik as we have been regulars at the Dorridge Cantonese but unfortunately they have starred to take “the mick” and have become complacent with their delivery times (1 hour late on one of our meals and didn’t care!) and the quality of food has gone downhill! So happy we have switched, not only can we walk to the restaurant the food is way way better. Ribs are awesome and the Crispy Beef was very tasty and did contain beef unlike some restaurants where you only receive batter! Chicken Curry excellent and our overall meal today was fantastic. The owners are polite and happy to have a conversation with you and their customer service is also excellent. Even though the meal is more expensive I don’t mind paying the extra to receive quality food. Will definitely be using as our regular for our Chinese Takeaway.

Food was excellent, have to be honest I didn't like the look of the cubed carrots and veg in the beef schechuan but they tasted lovely, sweet and sour pork was so nice although pork was very tough to eat, chips were beautiful and barbecue spare ribs were the best I have ever had, they were not fatty as I can't eat them if they have fat on and they were nice big ribs too and sauce was yummy, prawn crackers are gorgeous there, portion sizes were very very good and this will definately be our regular takeaway from now on

A pretty basic no-frills licensed chinese restaurant.The hot and sour soup was one of the best I’ve ever had, packed with meat and a perfect balance of heat and sourness.Singapore Noodles followed and were also very good with the the portion size just right. I will certainly be back.

Food is extremely tasty, relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff

We were seated and served very promptly (Tuesday evening) . Beer selection was good and reasonably priced. I had pork , my wife had a chicken dish. Both came very quickly from the kitchen and were good and hot. Quality was Ok but certainly nothing special, the pork was tough. Everything tasted as though it had been simmering in expectation for many hours.It was adequate but nothing to make me want to go back.

We had a lovely meal at the Phonlik one Saturday night, service way good staff was friendly and smiley face,the food look good and tasted good. I had a king prawn dish and had about 15 prawns !!!!!. lovely.. would definitely recommend and definitely return..

Not been here for quite a while. Always used to be really good and thankfully it still is. Friendly welcome and very tasty food. The staff literally cannot do enough for you. Our party thoroughly enjoyed themselves and will definitely start going there more regularly again.

On our first visit to Knowle my wife and I spotted this Chinese restaurant, which seemed to be quite popular. We were pleasantly surprised by both the pleasant décor and the promptness of the service, considering how busy they were. My chicken and cashew nut dish was tasty and more than ample in quantity. The chicken was tender an and succulent with vegetables and plenty cashew nuts. My wife's Singapore noodles was similarly tasty and ample in quantity. Her Chinese tea was enjoyable and extra water was provided to top up. My Chinese beer was very good but rather expensive in my view.

The food was over cooked and over salty. The staff are wonderful but I do expect a reasonable standard of food. Sadly I recommend giving this restaurant a miss.

We had a takeaway from here for the first time due to the other two places “closing”....? No where near as good, as the other two, but we now have the Phonlik or a drive to Dorridge...?

Dined here many times, same friendly staff. We enjoyed a two course meal, a large wine was £6.90. Bill for two of us was just under fifty quid, made me ponder for a while.

worst ever Chinese takeaway. the chicken chow mein was greesy and dry and they used vermicelli noodles instead of beensprouts. the special curry was tasteless with processed chicken and the rice was over done and stuck together

Amazing value, quality and an experience here. The portion sizes are very generous; everything is always piping hot and served quickly. Seriously good.

We dropped in here and ordered a six dish meal, the portions were humungus. We ate our fill and took a whole meal home. The food was delicious. Would we come back? You bet.

Wow... What a lovely time we had with friends... The food was fantastic! The staff are so considerate and lovely. Comfy, casual and cosy. Good selection on the menu and generous portions. We will be going again very soon. Well worth a visit.

Visited on a Saturday evening and it was very busy. Food came in good time and was fresh and very tasty will return.

Went for a meal with friends, ordered chicken noodles to share with a friend to find the 'chicken' didn't taste anything like chicken! also extremely awkward staff who peered over us every 5 minutes without saying anything! when it came to pay the meal was also super overpriced! Never visit again and wish i could give it a zero! DONT EVER VISIT YOU WILL BE VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Extremely disappointed with all the food , the ribs were not ribs they were the cartilage, not a rib bone in site , if left for a few minutes the other courses would have congealed, I’ve nothing else to say .

Went to the Phonlik restaurant with my partner last night. It was our second visit. The first hiding a year ago. Unfortunately I have to say none of the food we ate was enjoyable. Duck was dry and overdone. Main course of sizzling g steak was not up to standard of our normal Chinese restaurant. Absolute waste of our well earned money and never again.

This was one of our favourite restaurants in Knowle but sadly our experience on Saturday has rather spoilt things. You can no longer relax with a coffee after your meal because come 10pm they want you out so they can shut up shop. This, remember, is a Saturday night in the summer on a high street full of competition.Wont be returning any time soon whilst this unfriendly policy persists.

Have dined many times over the last 20 years. Enjoyed a recent visit with family and food was as yum as I always remember. The BBQ ribs are amazing! Lovely staff too.

Ordered takeaway on Tuesday evening. Staff explained that they had been very busy and were short of staff. Waited half an hour. Three main courses, three starters and rice. Two of the main meals were thrown away beef was weird colour, slimy and fatty. Scum on top of food and one tasty soapy Totally inedible. Unfortunately due to one of the family having little time before they had to travel we were not able to return the food to the restaurant to complain. Worst Chinese takeaway I have ever had.

What a excellent, authentic dining experience. The second we walked in, we were greeted with a smile and then the service from start to finish was attentive, prompt, professional and hospitable. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was amazing! All of us (6 people) enjoyed every single dish - and we had many. Would totally recommend this restaurant!

The food is always excellent. Pork chop in yellow bean sauce my new favourite. The staff are great. Very friendly and happy to recommend various new dishes to try.

It was my first visit here but went after reading the TA reviews. Although it was a Wednesday night, it was very busy event early evening so is obviously well frequented. We started with my favourite, lemon chicken, which was great but was surpassed by the sizzling beef Cantonese style which was just perfect - beautifully tender and large pieces of beef. I recommend this highly. Staff were friendly without being too much.

Went here for a meal with work colleagues while working an exhibition at the NEC. Superb set meal for four, 'best Chinese I've ever had' said one of the party. An unpretentious place, doing really good food; great service too. Will definitely be back when staying locally in future.

The staff here are very very friendly, we always have a warm welcome when we arrive. The food is great always hot and tasty. You don't have to wait too long. You can eat in or take away your choice!

Me sentí obligado a escribir. Hay una gran variedad de comentarios aquí de diversos grados de crítica, así que desde mi perspectiva como patrón de la casa veinte años Phonlik extraño puedo decir con la mano en el corazón, nunca trajo una mala comida para sentarse nosotros nunca. Y así fue el sábado por la noche cuando mi madre y mi Padre nos trajo aquí para una comida de cumpleaños.
