First of all. I hope the waiter who was an asset to the business isn't sacked. I had asked the waiter what things were on the menu as every restaurant is different. ( Never asked if I was allergic to anything. Training obviously wasn't given) Ordered my meal and it was different to what was explained. It wasn't what I had ordered or explained to me. So I did tell them it was unacceptable and to take it off the bill. ( Didn't eat it most of it.) My companions food was good. The manager and young assistant ( who didn't serve us,) began given us disgusting eye contact. I felt sorry for the waiter who served us, telling us "he would lose his wages" for taking the food off the bill. Not being trained right, was not his fault. After all what manager, who puts 'morning Glory' as a vegetable dish. This is Britain and we all know what that means. Pointing this out to him politely. I was told not to bring politics into it! 🙈 He was very very rude. I felt sorry for the waiter kept saying it was his fault. I made sure I gave the waiter half of his loss of wages because he wasn't trained correctly and I had asked him for explanation of menu. He was a brilliant waiter friendy and made us feel welcome. ...not like the manager and other waiter who was throwing dirty looks at me. I will never set foot in there again. Only because of the rudeness of the manager and waiter that didn't serve us and explaination of the food.

Had a reservation at 13.00, arrived on time to a crowd of 20 or more people jostling around the front desk, seemed to be a mix of reservations and walk-ins. Atmosphere was honestly like the customer service desk of a budget airline after a flight cancellation - think: angry women with children and entitled baby boomers loudly protesting about the service. Eventually managed to make ourselves known to the staff member, he seemed to tick our name on a list but nothing happened. Waited for another 20 minutes at the desk but no one came, tables seemed to be being allocated at random. Got sick of being ignored and left. They shouldn’t have the process to book a table if it doesn’t correspond to anything. Complete waste of our time and a Zone 1 tube fare!

Location: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Conveniently situated on Glentworth Street (NW1 5PG), just a 5-minute walk from Baker Street Station. Perfect for both locals and tourists—close enough to Regent’s Park for a post-meal stroll, yet tucked away from the Oxford Street chaos. Pro tip: Book a taxi in advance for evenings, as the one-way streets can confuse drivers. Ambience: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The moment you step in, the vibrant red façade and ornate gold accents evoke classic Hong Kong grandeur. The dining room balances elegance and warmth: crimson booth seating, intricate floral screens, and soft lighting create a cozy yet upscale vibe. Food: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Highlights!) -Prawn Dumplings (Har Gao): Translucent, silky wrappers packed with plump, sweet shrimp—arguably the best in London. -Black Pepper Venison Puffs: Flaky, buttery pastry with richly spiced minced venison—a bold fusion that works brilliantly. -Crispy Aromatic Duck: Perfectly lacquered skin, tender meat, and fresh pancakes. They even carve it tableside (a rare touch outside Chinatown!). -Mango Pudding: Creamy, not overly sweet, with real mango chunks—a refreshing finish. Service & Experience: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Attentive without being intrusive. The staff patiently explained dishes to our non-Chinese friends and swiftly refilled teas. Loved that the manager personally checked on larger tables. Minor hiccup: Our steamed seabass arrived 10 minutes after other mains, but they apologized sincerely and offered complimentary lychee ice cream. Standout Perks: - Generous portions (great for sharing!). - Open until 11 PM—fantastic for late-night cravings. - They accommodate dietary requests (e.g., our gluten-free diner got custom-made stir-fries). Value: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ £40-60pp with drinks. Pricier than Chinatown, but the quality justifies it. Final Verdict: Phoenix Palace delivers a polished, authentic Cantonese experience. It’s my go-to for impressing overseas guests or treating family—think "special occasion" vibes without the stuffiness. Book ahead for weekends, and don’t skip the venison puffs!

Volveremos pronto seguro!

Ugh, what a mess... GBP 78 spent, chosen poorly. Saturday 12pm dimsum & lots of empty tables... def not a good sign. Bus I was on to get here went past Royal China on Baker St (*massive* queue there b4 those guys opened) en route to Phoenix Palace. Cold yam croquette (straight outta the fridge not fresh at all, could've been yesterday's?). Rest of food was atrociously underwhelming. Prawn har gow dumplings' flour wrapper was def the worst I'd ever experienced and disentegrated as soon as chopsticks made contact. Definitely won't be coming back for yumcha, maybe consider evening meal at a push. Photos of Labour MPs by entrance board was constant reminder of how depressingly apt it all was and what a grave mistake (a la R.Reeves and horrid decision making) I had made... MASSIVE FAIL all round (note: went during UK's falling economy period Jan 2025).

Very large restaurant with the an overextensive menu. As usual, the use of english language was not easy. Waiters do not smile, nor do they make it easy to order. Very abrupt and in a hurry. Poor hospitality, which seems the norm in the uk. It would be very different in their home countries. The decor is lavish. Pretty for a while. The food was ready quickly but not generous for the upscale prices. All condiments are sparingly provided. I have eaten abroad and this uk practice is very stingy. Tastewise I missed the authenticity. Far too westernised. Strange because more than half the restaurant customers were eastern. Not a satisfying experience. Food far from expectations. Dry duck. Badly made fried rice. Just one pot of jasmine tea for 3 diners. At the prices in the menu most restaurants do unlimited pots of tea. Not a happy experience in all. I'll stick to eating oriental food in countries that care for quality and hospitality.

The food was excellent quality the price however was ridiculously high. We ordered similarly to what would cost about £60-75 in China town and it was £127.80 here and the quality was roughly the same as China town. Also the specials menus the tick boxes are not neatly aligned with the translation of the names in English. So we ordered two dishes off the specials menu by ticking the boxes which we thought related to them, but we were brought meals that we hadn't intended to order. When we complained that we didn't order them we were just told that we did. One was cold, but probably intended to be that way. I feel like it was the restaurant's fault for having such an ambiguous menus Also the noodles with beef brisket had a weird taste like it had some soap in it so we left it. All in all it was mostly our fault for not checking the menus and adding up the prices and we could have checked about the boxes on the special menus but suffice it to say I don't intend to return.

Absolutely shocking treatment. I rarely review places when I’ve had a bad experience and you can see from my profile I mostly review positive experiences. My friend made an online reservation at Phoenix Palace, we were going to catch up at her fav dim sum place after not seeing each other for over a year since she lives in the West Midlands now but used to live in London. The reservation online didn’t give a confirmation so she called up the restaurant to double check and confirm the booking. It was confirmed over the phone. We arrived at the restaurant last Sunday, it was very busy. The guy at the reception couldn’t find us as he flicked through some paper notes with scribbly writing and said he couldn’t find the booking, he seemed stressed and annoyed and told us to wait in the lobby. After 15-20min of waiting in the lobby without follow up we asked what the deal was and how long we needed to wait (we could always wander round and come back in an hour or so?) and just to clarify we were perfectly polite and not angry or confrontational in any way. We asked how long it would be and got no reply, we repeated my friend booked online AND called to confirm the booking. And all the guy said was “if you have no confirmation then you don’t have a booking” and then basically ignored us while continuing with “processing” other customers. So we left and had dim sum in Chinatown. I’m absolutely shocked by how little that guy cared about our booking being messed up. No apology or attempts to accommodate us. Don’t accept bookings over the phone or say it’s booked/it’s fine on the phone if it’s not and waste people’s time. There’s clearly not a lack of customers here, but I still think you should treat your customers with respect and maybe accommodate them or.. maybe apologise if you messed something up. But we got nothing. Customers without a booking were turned away but we got treated like that and worse, even though we had a reservation. In my 14 years of living in London I’ve never been treated this way by a restaurant , so that should tell you something. My friend felt embarrassed and apologised to me since she suggested it because it’s her favourite dim sum place. Well, not anymore. And no, neither of us will be returning. Not that this restaurant will care, though. I’ll continue getting my dim sum anywhere else in central London from now on.

Only ordered dim sum dishes and very disappointed with the quality. The glutinous rice wrapped in lotus leaf was oversteamed and the rice was all soggy and resembled congee. The prawn hargow and beef dumplings were also overdone that they appeared to be reheated again and again. Definitely nothing seemed to be freshly made. The only dish I enjoyed was the fried pork and prawn turnip cake as it was supposed to be fried so perfect for those who enjoys well fried dishes. Ordered 4 dim sum dishes and a coconut sago pudding. Decoration is very nice, traditional Chinese feel. My chair was a bit rocky, the joints were loose. On arrival the guy was very surly and unfriendly, just took us to the table and left. After 15 minutes we had to ask someone to come and take a drinks order. Basically, every time we wanted something we had to call someone, they didn't bother to check. None of the waiters seemed very friendly. A smile here and there wouldn't hurt, especially since the service charge is 13%. The food quality and taste was pretty good, but a lot of the portion sizes were very small. The steamed sea bass was very good, and the fish looked fresh. However, next day my mouth was very dry, so I guess they use a lot of salt or MSG. Overall, not bad, but probably better venues locally for the price.

I took my family to Phoenix Palace for dinner based on the good reviews. The decor was lovely and it seemed busy. The waiting staff were pleasant however the food while plentiful was not. Our spare ribs were dry, hard and flavourless, we couldn’t eat them. The sweet and sour dish was lacking flavour as were many of the other dishes we ordered. I’m not sure how you manage to make sweet and sour without much sweetness but it happened. This could be forgiven if it wasn’t for the high price of the dishes, the total per head worked out at around £45, for a starter, main dish, rice and soft drink only. Maybe we were unlucky with our food choices but I will definitely not be returning.

It all started when we were given a table right next to the waiter stool. We were constantly observed by the staff, who kept on patrolling the area. One of them could barely understand the language and ended up leaving. Another waitress aggressively chopped the duck and rudely placed the dishes on the table. The atmosphere was unpleasant. When we asked for the bill, we noticed an added “descretionary service charge” of 13%. That meant that leaving a tip for the service should have been optional, and not automatically added into the total cost. Upon a confrontation with another waiter about this matter, he responded incredibly out of line: “Yes, it is mandatory to pay this fee, unless you think our service is bad”. Of course, as the situation got really awkward we ended up paying the fee, and feeling regretful afterwards. Whilst the food was worth its value, such an atosphere with insensitive and incompetent service ruins the overall dining experience.

It’s wonderful to think about our long-standing connection with Phoenix Chinese restaurant! 🥟 The fact that it has evolved over time, from an Indian restaurant, Viceroy of India to another Chinese Restaurant called, “Trade Winds”, to its current Chinese iteration, Phoenix Chinese restaurant! 🥟 adds a layer of nostalgia. And the telepathic connection we feel with the venue is truly intriguing! 😊 Now, let’s talk about those “Onion Cakes.” While many Chinese restaurants in London offer a variety of dim sum, it’s exciting to discover a unique dish that sets this particular restaurant apart. Unfortunately, I don’t have specific information about this dish, but I recommend exploring more about it during your next visit. Perhaps you can inquire with Charlie, the commander-in-chief, and learn more about the story behind these onion cakes! 🌟 The ambiance sounds delightful, making it an ideal spot for celebrations or romantic meals. Our compliments and appreciation for the staff will undoubtedly motivate them to continue providing excellent service. 🙌 Wishing the restaurant continued success as they strive for the peak! 🎉 If you ever need more restaurant recommendations or have any other requests, feel free to ask! 😊

It seems like a classic Chinese restaurant. Quite noisy. I was not at all impressed with the food. Maybe with the exception of the dumplings. The service is average at best. The atmosphere is unimpressive.

Portions small. Too greasy. Rice is rationed. Price implies higher quality but the margin of improvement is small in comparison to much cheaper options in London.

We were wondering why we haven't been back here in years, and after eating dim sum here it was so disappointing. We visited in the early afternoon so the quality should still be fresher than later in the day. Dim sum was just not good, it was stale and not tasty. So sad because we love the interiors and vibe and was going to make it our new monthly family dim sum spot. Alas it is not to be and shall only be for a once every 2 year trip instead!

This has always been one of the greats in our book of Chinese restaurants. Popped in for a quick meal and service was great as was the food. The only complaint I had was that it is pricey!

I was very clear while booking that I want 100% veg food spoke to the chef too and he said please when you order the dishes clearly state it but the the woman who served us was not pleasant at all every time we called her she was getting bugged every time I told her no chicken stock or oyster sauce she was rude and said don't keep repeating it I have never come across such a rude waitress. We for religious reasons don't eat that and if I make sure as the chef told me I shouldn't be spoken rudely to.She kept complaining they give me so much work to do and I can't cope but can't take out her frustration on us.Sorry not happy and will not be visiting again. Please sort your staff out as we come there to enjoy and had brought some guests really embrasing as we did not enjoy our meal too. This is the worst experience I have had sort your staff out. Please don't go if you are going to enjoy as staff treat you badly.

We've been in London for a few days and fancied an oriental meal so booked a table. We arrived perfectly on time and we're greeted at the door and sat immediately. The restaurant was half empty and we soon realised why, the servers were abrupt, and ill mannered to start. When we ordered our food and drinks the server didn't know the menu and told us they did not infact sell venison. I showed him that they infact did venison and lemongrass was under the GAME section of the menu none surprisingly and was not the only venison dish they sold. When they brought the drinks the server placed the drinks and walked away without saying anything he had placed my tiger beer and had infact given my partner a fruit punch rather than the frozen fruit daiquiri she had ordered. I asked her whether she would like me to raise the issue as she has anxiety and she said 'no thankyou' so we waited on our food. The atmosphere was icy and the restaurant was still half empty when my brisket and soft noodles arrived with a plat of belly pork and bao buns... not what she ordered. We raised that issue and the food was replaced shaeinf my brisket as we waited. I should point out I am a butcher and whoever sold them that brisket should be shot. Flavourless and fatty and under cooked the melt in your mouth brisket it should have been was a chew until your jaw hurts brisket. The noodles were overly salty and luke warm. Finally my partners dish arrived and it was salty and far too perfumed with ill prepared lemon grass. In conclusion when in the area I can recommend the little bagel shop in the tube station around the corner instead of this pretentious, overpriced, and terrible jumped up takeaway.

If you like crispy noodles (I like mine with char siu pork), this is the best place to come. I've had a lot of crispy noodles in my life and since finding this place, I will not go anywhere else if I am in central London. Service is quick and efficient (pleasantries are kept to a minimum, which I actually like). The decor is a little dated, but I'm here for the food.

Owner extremely rude - We were coming in for food (was completely empty) and it was raining. We stood at the door, and he said "You cant stand here" We tried to explain we were just looking at the menu, and he told us he didnt care and that we were blocking the enterance! Keep it mind, it was EMPTY! Can see why, what an awful owner - Learn some hospitality you rude little man.
