Haozhan in City of London, Westminster

This is one of my favorite spots in Chinatown, London, and my husband and I just can’t stop coming back! If you’re craving Peking Duck, this is an absolute must-visit. The duck is incredibly flavorful and succulent, with a perfect balance of textures - crispy on the outside but soft and tender on the inside. I also love their dumplings The rich, savory flavors pair beautifully with the hoisin sauce and even better with their delicious dumplings. Their duck tongue is also good if you want to try sth new. It’s quite hard to get good customer service from China Town tbh, but we had no issues with this restaurant. They all seem friendly and attentive!

Extremely overpriced for awful foods.

Haozhan rose to the top of my roast duck go-to resto in Chinatown. It's just simply and consistently good. I mean, look at my plate. I polished it all before I remembered to take a picture. The place also does good yumcha, with plumply, dense prawn dumplings. Service is curt and prompt, as expected.

Mild flavor, cold food. Better places exist on the same street

Haozhan Chinese Restaurant 8 Gerrard Street, Chinatown Soho, London, W1D 5PJ. I visited Haozhan Chinese Restaurant Chinatown Soho for a take-out on 31/10/2024. I ordered a roast duck on boiled rice and a portion special fried rice. The portion sizes are good and the duck on boiled rice was quite nice, but the special fried rice, I would describe as pretty average. I decided to have a take out, but noticed the seating area was very busy and lively. The thing about Chinatown is the great atmosphere and this restaurant is located in the heart of a busy bustling area, so if you do visit Chinatown, you'll have more than fifty restaurants to choose from along Lisle Street, Gerrard Street and Shaftesbury Avenue, so definitely worth a visit.

I took my Italian friend who has never been to china town before and came across this restaurant .. She is a vegetarian and we were dubious the choice of veggie dishes .. We can honestly say the food was fantastic - we had dim sum and vegetarian noodles and I had sweet and sour prawn and it was lovely Also service was fabulous .. we will be back

My 12 year old and I had a great meal. The service was friendly, they were kind to my daughter and we enjoyed the dim sum and crispy duck . I felt they were really kind and generous to us and the food was totally delicious

Picked up this random restaurant to eat at while in Chinatown. The food was really good and authentic, especially the beef ho fun noodles in black bean sauce and stir fried beef in oyster sauce. I loved the service, the presentation and the ambience for a place that small and compact. A must visit place for anyone who loves chinese food.

Food was amazing and service was a 10!. Never tasted a similar Chinese in London. Diana was also really friendly and welcoming. We will come back for sure

Nice place and excellent service

We enjoyed a really nice dinner! Our friends and I loved the food, size portions were very generous. But the most that we enjoyed was the service that Dahiana provided us. She was funny and natural, we loved it. We will be back!

Friendly guy at the front of the place. Ordered food and within 5 min it was there. When i was eating ordered my second drink and not even half way at the drink and done eating i get the bill on my table and immediately have to pay. It goes very fast and gets the feeling for me to leave. Told the guy he said he has to clean the tables outside because of closing but its only 21:30 and new people still taking a seat outside.. not very friendly service when the food is there and finished

On a busy Saturday night unlike others, this place didn’t have any queue outside, we should’ve known. It was full of tourists, no locals. Lots on the menu not available. Won Ton soup basic, cheap small won tons and no veg or flavour. Crispy seafood noodles with such cheap small prawns and again no veg, unlike elsewhere we’ve had. Had to try and choose available dishes and the waiter was so rude and impatient, and when we ordered the new dish, started shouting like we ordered something too much trouble… seriously rude and aggressive, would not recommend and never will return. Our usual the Wan Chai Corner was shut and reopening soon. Only good thing about the meal was the squid which was very nice. So a mediocre meal cost over £90 for two including the service charge, which we were too scared to remove as didn’t want the wrath of the rude aggressive waiter, but no way would we have ever voluntarily left him a tip!

In Chinatown there is one Chinese restaurant next to another, which is why it is not easy to choose. We chose the Haozhan restaurant because there was still some space outside. Unfortunately, the quality of the food is not good, the meat was tough and the noodles were, in our opinion, instant noodles. The service was okay, but you always had the feeling that the space should be freed up as quickly as possible. We then gave a hefty tip of around 12% on the bill, without our consent. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this restaurant; you should rather visit one of the numerous other locations.

Unfortunately not worth the money

Genuinely one of the best Chinese meals I've ever had. The duck was delicious as we're the dim sum & the curry!! Highly recommend

Service was quick and no thrills, food was decent, atmosphere okay for Chinatown, a little packed in. 20% off dimsum but a 12.4% service charge so not really…

Very good food. They immediately found us a place to eat (4 of us), even though we hadn't booked. Quick service. Maybe I'd wait to bring the bill (they brought it to us while we were still eating), it's not very nice. Maybe a little expensive, but prices are the same everywhere, so it's not a minus.

20% discount on dim sums 12-3pm. Good quality food.

Lovely food and an outdoor seating area too. Service was good and food all came piping hot. Great restaurant in Chinatown, they don’t do salt and pepper chips which I personally love.

Good place to stop by! Has outdoor seating as well. The well hanged roast ducks attracted me and they tasted really well.

Had dinner here last night. The food was cooked perfectly and feels very much like home cooking. With so many choices of Chinese restaurants it's very hard to recommend a great one from a Chinese origin. But there's always a first. I am planning to go back for dim sum as I hear that's also really good.

Went to a few places before this and they were not good. If you want good Chinese, go to one of the sit down restaurants, as the service was much better here and the food was decent. The waiter showed me the proper way to make the duck pancakes which was a great experience!

This is my absolute favourite Chinese restaurant! My family and I have been coming for years and each time we are rewarded with amazing food and service. I have tried so many others but will always end up coming back here because nothing compares. The portions are great and reasonably priced food! The best!

Original Chinese taste, delicious. Had a couple of Tsingtao beers. It's not expensive. Worth it.

Well, we just had dinner and everything was fine except for some spicy dishes, until it was time to pay. They include the “tip” on the bill when it is illegal; It is optional and they have to ask you if you want to give it or not. Well, here it is included in the bill, we told the owner and he told us that this is the service and it is mandatory that we pay for it. 12.5% We have said that we do not pay more for it when it is getting ready. The waiter got angry but took it away from us. Because he was obviously not right since it is illegal to force him to pay. He was angry, we imagine that with himself and we were sad, I don't like it when the Chinese get angry.

Highly recommended Chinese food, well prepared and authentic. The staff very attentive and pleasant. Located in the Chinese neighborhood of London.

Very disappointing value for money. Good welcome but the menus offered are mediocre, for an unfairly high price. There are better restaurants in the neighborhood, go your way

Friendly to get you on the terrace, but once you are seated everything goes very quickly. Impatiently keep asking if you know it yet, and then serve it at a very fast pace. Plates away and the receipt immediately on the table without being asked. A nice price tag for normal, not special Chinese food. Certainly not worth repeating

We went as a group of 4 and we all really enjoyed the service from the first waiter who was friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

absolutely amazing restaurant!! i went up to chinatown for the first time, and this was also my first time going to a restaurant, so i was worried at first until the waiter kindly greeted me and my mum. we sat outside and it wasn’t as busy; there was a lot of people but not crowded. i ordered the bbq pork steamed buns as i usually get full very easily and i knew i wouldn’t eat all of my food if i got something else and it was one of the bestest bao buns i had ever had. the waiting time was quite fast, maybe around 10 minutes and the food came very warm and not cold at all :) one of the waiters also wished me a happy birthday and the best of luck in the future, and another was very polite when taking our order and asked if we have any allergies. WILL come again!

Ich hatte nich nie so ein schlechtes asiatisches essen. Die nudeln waren kalt und hatten keine soße. Bei dem sweet chilli chicken war einfach nur eine halbe Zwiebel und soya soße dabei. Uns wurde das falsche getränk gebracht und es schmeckt einfach nur graußam. Auf keinen fall zu empfehlen.

Wanted a good spicy Chicken curry and some chow mien as a take away. Eric who was outside and help customers was excellent. Very friendly and he suggested a Malaysian chicken curry as the chef was Malaysian. WoW - this chicken curry was probably one of the best I have ever had outside of Malaysia. This is defiantly my new favourite. We also has Chicken chow mien and a vegetable chow mien. Both could be more flavoursome and was a little too sweet. Hence I took one rating away for that. Overall, we were blown away with the Malaysian Chicken curry and will visit again and hopefully meet meet Eric again.

The taste is average. In this restaurant, I clearly experienced gender discrimination. At the same time, I was suspected of being subjected to "nationality discrimination." There was a male service member who, in what he thought was a joke, laughed at a woman's choice of marriage. Furthermore, at the end of our meal, we discovered that all the other tables had drinks and water, and no one asked us if we wanted it. We were treated rudely and charged a mandatory 13% service charge. This is the restaurant with the worst service I have encountered in the two years I have been in the UK. I personally do not recommend this place to female tourists who speak Mandarin.

Decent restaurant for a tourist area.  Friendly and fast service. The dishes are quite generous, but a little too salty for my taste.

I was surprised by the quality of the duck, we had to reorder. The soups weren't my cup of tea as they were too "jelly-like".

Very very very bad experience. I'm never ever coming here again. The food is not at all good. The staff behavior is not good. Some of the staff are very arrogant. The charge mininum £12 per person even if you buy for less. They also charged me around £5 as service charge

a bit pricey but the food was really good The portion was big and pretty filling, the chicken was well cooked. the staff was really nice too and even discussed with my friends and me to know where we were from. My friends loved their meals too. I recommend :)

Standard Ch-town restaurant offering similar menu to most other options in the area. Busy place, the food was generally of a good standard. The dumplings were nice, but the egg fried rice was rather bland. One friendly staff member who was active around the tables, the rest looked like they were in deep states of misery. The negative highlight was a member of the kitchen staff having a cigarette break in the outside dining area.

My ho fun (with gravy, not fried) was tasty but lacked a green vegetable like choi sam. My partner’s char siu was sliced too thick and therefore abit too chewy. Service was attentive but my, have prices gone up since I last visited.

Chinese food is delicious, even the barbecued suckling pig is delicious

The dim sum platter was OK. I really enjoyed the fried Ho fun which was very flavourful, it was a little oily, but i would still come back for it. Overall prices were reasonable.

Walking through Chinatown, picked this place at random. Pretty much standard offerings. Various chicken dishes, pork dishes, veggie dishes. Lots of Dim Sun offerings too. Ordered a veggie spring roll but it had an odd taste, bit of a paper taste. the inside was good. The veggie noodles were good and a decent proportion. The sweet and sour chicken is what you'd expect, however, rice did not come with the dish which was disappointing - maybe it's normal to be sold separately, i dont know, i simply found it odd. I would say the prices were reasonable, but with many sides being a la carte, the price will add up quickly. Decor was pretty dated, nothing to write home about. The service was polite but at one point everyone sat down to lunch and we had to find someone for the bill.

Amazing food and amazing atmosphere. The staff was absolutely great remembered us from the night before. They were so kind and friendly and helpful with all the food choices. The crispy duck and the baking duck were out of this world.

This was honestly the most disappointing restaurant experience we had in London. While we were studying the menu, an employee tried to push us into the restaurant. Ultimately we were lured into the restaurant with the offer of three cocktails for the price of two; that sounded good at first. Then it started: right after we had placed our order the bill came - first pay, then eat and drink, so far so good. But when the food came we quickly realized that we hadn't made the best choice: that Broccoli was unseasoned and boring, there was little rice (which had to be ordered separately given the already expensive prices) and tables and chairs were already being folded down, so we didn't feel welcome. The cocktails were small and really overpriced. The offer from the beginning (3 for 2) was just a catch-all: we were only told in an unfriendly manner that we should have asked exactly which drinks were included when we asked. But then it was too late. The result: £100 for three bad little long drinks and food that would have had more pizzazz at any snack bar. Plus an automatic 12% tip - we would definitely have given less for this experience if we had had the choice. We won't be coming back and we'll learn from this tourist scam.

I went here with 2 other friends and got some dim sum and the fried noodles in black bean sauce. The food is good and has an authentic canto taste to it. Service was up to standard and sitting outside was pleasant. Overall, a good experience but not the best dim sum/canto food London has to offer.

A nice and fun place in chins town London. My first time with Crispy duck. Helena was super satisfied.

Good food with nice staff. Location in the middle of Chinatown. The only negative point: Unfortunately, the last main course arrived late after we had already eaten all the other dishes. But this portion was also very tasty.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Haozhan in London, and it was an absolute delight! I ordered the crispy duck and wonton soup, and both dishes were absolutely phenomenal. The duck was cooked to perfection, with a crispy skin and tender meat that simply fell off the bone. And the wonton soup was a revelation - the dumplings were packed with flavor and the broth was rich and savory. The service was also top-notch, with attentive and knowledgeable staff who were happy to answer all my questions about the menu. And while the prices were a bit higher than average, the quality of the food and the overall experience made it well worth the splurge. Overall, I would highly recommend Haozhan to anyone looking for an authentic and delicious Chinese dining experience in London. The crispy duck and wonton soup are must-trys - trust me, you won't be disappointed! Just be prepared for a slightly higher-than-average bill, but trust me, it's worth it.

Tasteless. Portions were small and lack of taste. Dim sum didn’t taste at all. Guy outside said that there is three drinks for two, but we needed to ask for third. Don’t bother.

It was busy but we didnt wait long for our food. Drinks were great and the xiao long bao was some of the best ive had. Their noodle dishes are great. Staff are friendly and an amazing amosphere.

Just had a meal there. Service is APPALLING, even by Chinese standards. Food was expensive, brocolli pretty tasteless. Rude, rude, rude. When I complained to my money collector, she pretended not to understand English.

The service was satisfactory, but the food did not meet expectations.

Prices absolutely injustified for the overall quality. Moreover they rely on possible customers distractions to exaggerate the tips (more than 15% on the total bill). Dishonests, they make fun of tourists.

Unfortunately the staff were not interested in the customer and not friendly.. Cold plates, cold food. Chicken in our dish was rubbery and sinewy. The prawns, however, were good. Air-conditioning was on, and windows were open, making for even colder food and uncomfortably cold for clients. Overall, I would try somewhere else

Great dim sum and Cantonese food, especially the roast duck. Toilets are dirty and there are no baby changing facilities.

The most rude service I've encountered. We were hurried to pay and leave the table quickly saying that customers were waiting. There were NO customers waiting. There was still a table free inside. Many tables were free outside. No apology. Then they shouted at us in the street saying that other customers were waiting. Go eat elsewhere, they don't deserve your business. Ridiculous mentality.

I'm full, but I came out of the restaurant (better term - larger snack bar) yesterday in a bad mood and not feeling good. First, the ambience. It's hectic and very tight. As we sat downstairs at a table for 2, it was very drafty as the outside door was constantly being opened. The staff is efficient. The restaurant is not suitable for vegetarians. I had broccoli in garlic sauce for £11.80. Seriously? This was a small plate of steamed broccoli mixed with water and garlic. There was no rice and had to be ordered separately for £3.50. The portions aren't too big either. However, dumplings are very tasty but again a bit expensive at £6.80 for 3 pieces. By the way, the bill comes as soon as you put the chopsticks down. No need to ask about it. It makes you feel very welcome. I wouldn't recommend it, there are far better restaurants/takeaways in London. I slept on this review another night, hoping that in the morning light I would be more relaxed about the experience. That wasn't the case. I definitely wasn't satisfied and didn't feel comfortable. The one star for the food is for the dumplings.

Came here on my own and had half peking duck and a Puerh tea, all of which was delicious. Duck was soft and juicy with a delicious crispy and flavourful skin. Tea was good quality, no bitterness at all

Bought takeaway and found that the steamed chicken has gone bad... probably hung at the shop for a few days... will NEVER go again!

We ate Dim Sum at the tables outside and enjoyed it. The people who served us were nice and there was a varied exchange of jokes. I recommend ordering the shrimp Dim Sum, super good

Nice staff n good food for a fair price. The beef noodle soup had big chunks of meat. The won Tang noodle soup had scrimp filled won tang. Broth was light n had a good flavor. I prefer things a lil more spicy but it was surprisingly not spicy at all... I guess that's the British taste. But no issue getting chilly oil or something spicy on the side. What I really liked was the staff leaving us alone to enjoy the food.... British n Americans got this habit of always asking if everything is alright, right when u take a bite 🙄 -1* could need some renovations.

If you are looking for an affordable place to enjoy a meal after a walkaround in Chinatown [Soho] look no further! Staff is great and food is delicious. Service is excellent, no pushy people here, just nice staff that are willing to explain what’s on the menu. Also a nice terrace with heating so you can sit on the terrace in London in March! 😎

Glad we visited China town, the salt ribs were incredible but sadly the duck was not crispy and lacking in standard! Service ok, but wouldn’t visit again as so much more choice locally.

Came here during Chinese New Year week and it was moderately busy at around 6.30pm. I'd been here for takeaway roast duck so I knew if they could make that so well, the rest of the menu should live up to my expectations. Ordered one of my favourites - Beef in black bean sauce and fried ho fun - came very hot, lots of meat, and good smoky noodles. !0/10! Also, it was accompanied by steamed beef balls. Whilst the flavour was just about right (could do with a bit of dried tangerine peel) the balls were a little on the smaller side. I think the COL has affected portion sizes for their dim sum. Very attentive, and speedy service. Total cost was £28.52. Overall, a wonderful experience and shall be back again!
