Lido Chinese Restaurant in City of London, Westminster

If you like crispy noodles (I like mine with char siu pork), this is the best place to come. I've had a lot of crispy noodles in my life and since finding this place, I will not go anywhere else if I am in central London. Service is quick and efficient (pleasantries are kept to a minimum, which I actually like). The decor is a little dated, but I'm here for the food.

Great place for cheap and cheerful dim sum. Fast service and everything is fresh.

Went in for the beef ho fun in black bean sauce and it did not disappoint. It was delicious. The only downside to this experience came when we payed. The transaction had gone through according to our bank app (we showed them the bank had deducted the money from our account) but their machine said the payment had been declined… after some back and fourth and their assurance that our bank would not confirm the payment we said ok we’ll pay with another card. Flash forward the payment was confirmed a few days later and therefore we had payed for our meal twice. We then had to go back to Lido to show them both transactions had gone through and asked for a refund. But this was not enough, they claimed they need to wait for their end of month statement to check it went through twice and then we could come back to get our money back… at this point its been 3 weeks since our meal… unfortunately even though the food was great doubting of ever coming back as we don’t want to go through this again. And thankfully we live in london, so we could come back… if you are a tourist or live far away bare this in mind…

Didn't enjoy the experience or food except people were very nice

If you have spent time in Hong Kong or Singapore you will understand that the food here is very authentic (unlike many Chinese restaurants that cook for a British palette). Good value for money too: £100 for 5 people at lunch.

Really nice dim sum, the service is very quick and attentive. Affordable with good portions.

This was my first time visiting this restaurant. As my friend and I walked by, a man from their team approached us outside. I was a bit skeptical about trying it because I had experienced hostility at other Chinese places (we are Black). I asked him for his recommendations, and he suggested the number 235 or the shredded chicken fried rice. When we entered, we were greeted warmly by an older gentleman who asked us what we wanted. I ordered the dishes he recommended, and the portions were generous. I was surprised when he said I didn't need a sauce for the rice, but the sweet and sour sauce was absolutely delicious! Even the rice on its own tasted amazing, but when mixed with the sauce, it was heavenly! I would recommend this place!!! I

Hong Kong style tea and tea restaurant

HORRIBLE ! SHAMEFUL, shouldn't even exist. Forced to put a star but it's O. Pitiful service, your glass or plate is taken away even though you haven't finished. More than mediocre cuisine served like a canteen without any presentation. Ramen broth tastes like water. Cashew chicken filled with water… in any case move on The waitresses are terrible, they roll their eyes all the time, no smile. IN SHORT, a horror with the added bonus of a far too high bill

My friends girlfriend took me to this place . Absolute waste of money . I’ve called my bank to ask for my money back . The plates were dirty and probably not cleaned since 1969 . Food was bland . Wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy . If you love yourself don’t go. It was like being in a bingohall

Fantastic dim sum place in Chinatown. I lived in Singapore for 18 years and can assure you that you will find authentic dim sum here for an affordable price. Service was attentive and efficient - they made sure to keep topping up our tea, which is always a good sign in an Asian restaurant. Adrianna and others who have given a 3 star review on the basis of poor, disengaged service, clearly don't know that that's just how servers in a Chinese restaurant are! That's how you know that you are getting an authentic experience! Furthermore, their comments about the underwhelming food is just because they've ordered the most anglicised things off the menu as seen in their pictures (chicken chow mein for example). This restaurant deserves far more than a 3.8 rating on google. Judging by the number of Asian customers in this restaurant, I would say that many would agree. Lido restaurant definitely satisfied my dim sum craving. I will be back :)

Wonderful taste profile here. We enjoyed the vegetarian tasting menu with crispy vegetarian duck, vegetarian “chicken” and wonderful fried tofu in sweet and sour sauce

No nonsense hardcore Cantonese dim sum joint. Nevermind the service, you won't get much. But do enjoy the food, which is always robustly prepared with genuine intentions to please. Price is surprisingly inexpensive. Be prepared though. Background noise level generated by other customers might impact your ability to conduct your continuing conversation with your mates.

I’d been looking forward to trying, especially given its long standing reputation. The restaurant was very busy, which I took as a positive sign, and it was filled with Chinese patrons, a promising indication of authenticity. We had booked a table in advance and arrived just ten minutes early. Thankfully, the staff were considerate enough to seat us quickly despite the crowd. The decor was quite average, nothing remarkable, but that wasn’t a major concern. Unfortunately, the service left much to be desired. The waiting staff seemed incredibly disengaged, there wasn’t a single smile throughout the entire experience. It felt as though serving us was a chore rather than part of their job. It took a while for someone to come over and take our order, and when they finally did, the interaction was rushed and impersonal. The food itself was underwhelming. Considering how long LIDO has been around, I expected something more memorable. While the food didn’t take an unreasonable amount of time to arrive, the flavours were nothing special, just average dishes that didn’t stand out in any way. What really left a sour taste wasn’t just the mediocre food but the overall atmosphere created by the staff’s miserable demeanor. Even when it came time to pay, there was no warmth or basic courtesy. I’m glad I gave LIDO a try to satisfy my curiosity, but I wouldn’t return. There are plenty of other places where both the food and service leave you feeling appreciated.

Dim sums were okay. Brisket soup had zero flavour and just tasted like hot water and the Szechuan chicken was jelly/rubbery and also lacked flavour. Walked out £60 poorer and couldn’t even eat our food. Would not recommend

Nearly all of the food taste quite horrible. Egg fried rice and congee were from cheap supermarket frozen food. Hogan had been over salted and got a lot black soy sauce on them. One star for the Dim sum , but highly suspect still from frozen factory food. Avoid unless you got no where to go .

I had a lunch reserved for 13:00 for 6 people, but I wasn’t able to sit down until all my late friends came, even if I had heavy bags with me… Food quality seems to have decreased since I last went but it’s still good for dim sum.

Luckily I didn't read the reviews before our visit. I can't understand them. We had a pleasant time there, the staff were welcoming and friendly, the service was quick and the food was delicious.

One of my favourite place for Chinese meal. Good food, friendly servers, unpretentious.

My friend and I went for a Chinese meal on Saturday. Our usual restaurant was full so, somewhat dejected, we trudged around Chinatown and walked into Lido. This was very much on impulse and what a sound impulse it turned out to be! The food was superb and the service prompt. Each dish (crispy duck, pork dumplings, special fried rice and two ice creams) had a delicious, fresh taste. It was obvious that only the finest ingredients had been used and equally obvious that the meal had been prepared with utmost care. Unlike in many places, where parts of the duck are overly crispy, their chef had left plenty of succulent meat. The rice was excellent and devoid of that stodgy texture you often find in other establishments. Overall, the best Chinese meal I've ever eaten. We'll certainly come back and urge other peckish souls to give it a try!

The big chinese girl that was serving us in the Downstairs/basement area seems like she had a bad day or woke up on the wrong side of the bed as her attitude really stinks. When you ask her for something, the way she looks at you as if you have said something wrong is very out of place. Please advise her to smile more and be more polite as manners maketh a man or woman.

Delicious lunches and dinner. Not only loved by the Chinese that tells you something, but also others races who appreciate top notch chinese cuisine.

Went here on a Monday evening. Very fast service and food tasted great. The only negative thing I wish they would improve is giving you a bill in english. I already read the other reviews and that has been a problem before. How could we check the amount and service charge fee of what we ordered when it is in Chinese. We told the staff who tried to explain what we ordered but she just kept repeating the noodles like 3 times but we only ordered 1. We just said whatever we’re just gonna pay for it. So please maybe you should consider your bill being in english since not all of your customer speaks Chinese. But food tasted great. I love the beef congee the most. The pig intestine is a must try as well.

Calidad y estándar alimentario constante mantenido. Tanto es así que se ha convertido en nuestro lugar de comida regular cuando en Chinatown. Ya sea para comidas dim sum o a la carta, es un alivio saber que la comida servida es presentable y deliciosa. Nada de cortar esquinas... ni bofetadas. Por ejemplo, los pepinillos servidos con la garra de pollo fría siempre son frescos y crujientes (rábano, zanahorias, pepinos). Tuve una mala experiencia de un restaurante adyacente que servía escabeches viejos y viejos y cuando se informó, sin embargo, el mismo plato con los mismos escabeches se trajo de vuelta. Ya sea problema de comunicación, era obvio que los pepinillos viejos añejos no se podían cambiar ya que la cocina no tenía frescos. I did not particularly enjoy my experience. This happened 4 days ago but until now I am still upset at the lady who served us. We sat upstairs near the toilet and the lady who served us made us feel she wasn’t happy we’re there. We grabbed a spare chair to put our jackets as it was damp from the rain. She told us off (very rudely) saying that it might block the way to the toilet which we complied to put the chair back to the next table. Took our orders and left . Asked her to change my small plate as i could still see some grease and finger prints on it which she just casually put in the other table to exchange with another one. Orders arrived and never said a word. We didnt know the 2nd dimsum we ordered was under the 1st so i asked her and she just rudely lifted the dimsum basket and pointed to the one underneath. I laughed and apologized (trying to get her to smile) but she looked even more annoyed. She didnt come back to our table when we asked for the bill and another lady did this. My friend and i was tempted to decline the service fee but paid it still. I would not make this long review if this did not ruin our evening. The food was nice enough but the experience ruined it for me.

The food was absolutely delicious and they also had vegetarian menus.

As always the food was, beautifully presented and delicious and hot and very very tasty and efficiently served . The staff were very helpful and pleasant and happy to help with any questions . We had the dim sum menu and would recommended it to anyone .

Listen, I don't know why people complain so much about the service, this is an excellent restaurant, and the service is efficient. You will not get tons of smiles and chitchat, but I was actually comfortable with this set up. I gave my quite restrictive dietary restrictions to the waitress who actually REALLY accomodated me in an efficient manner, maybe not the warmest one, but very polite and once again really efficient! The dim sum are excellent and I loved the vibe of the restaurant. I recommend it!

I had lunch with my family at this Chinese restaurant during a trip to London, and unfortunately, it was a terrible experience. After eating, my entire family ended up with bad stomach issues, and my son was sick for the next two days. This clearly points to the poor quality of the food being served. Additionally, the service was subpar. The staff seemed unprofessional, laughing amongst themselves for no apparent reason, rather than attending to customers. This experience not only ruined our meal but also disrupted our trip. I strongly advise avoiding this place.

We arrived 5 minutes before closing time and were offered the card, which we gladly accepted. Unfortunately, the menu was thrown on the table and after we ordered, someone was always standing behind us to check whether we were ready. After 3 spoons we were interrupted while eating and had to pay the bill. After my plate was empty and I wanted to go to the toilet, I was almost run over by the waitress who wanted to put my plate away. Constant angry looks, panting and looking at the clock. After we paid a whopping 67 euros for 2 normal portions, we left with our drinks (which were still half full). Conclusion - it wasn't worth the money to be able to enjoy your food in such an unfriendly environment!

One of the best in the area the food is amazing

This place was a really unsatisfactory experience for us. The employees were unpleasant and unwelcoming, their service lacked any courtesy or smiles. A female employee was obviously impatient as she brought our dishes, setting the plates down with a loud thud. The worst was that female employee whose attitude was judgemental and inhospitable from the beginning to the end in particular, whose unpleasant manner made us uneasy. There was no acknowledgement or expression of gratitude, even after we were done. Among the most unprofessional and disagreeable services I've ever used was this one. The food wasn't even that good, and I ended up paying a £6 service charge without receiving any service at all. By far the worst Chinese restaurant I've ever been to.

The customer service at this place is very terrible. We ordered a few dishes to try first, but the staffs were rude and unwelcoming. Some of the chicken pieces in our dish were cold and undercooked. The food didn’t meet our expectations, but the worst part was the service. They also charged a service fee, despite not providing friendly or proper service. When we paid and left, the female staff member gave us a judgmental look without even saying thank you. I wouldn’t recommend this shop if you're in Chinatown.

After asking 3 servers, each 10 minutes apart, we were served 1 hour after placing our order (namely we were with a young child). The dishes arrive, the waitress half throws the plate on the table. Not a single apology for the wait, for the service, not a glance or a commercial gesture from them. Without further ado we were forced to put the kibosh on it so we could gather our things and leave the table without actually being kicked out of the restaurant. Tasteless. We sent food back and they sent us out of the restaurant.

This restaurant overcharged me with the cost of my meal after deducing the total of my meals. I don’t understand why a restaurant in this age and time still make handwritten bills if not for the ulterior motive of overcharging their clients unlawfully …. This dubious act is very ridiculous and I’m certain it’s an intentional one and it’s a usual activity in this restaurant. I feel so disappointed!!!!

I don’t know you guys but something people don’t know about is that this restaurant takes advantage of its employees. The service charges you guys paid ain’t pay to the employees but to its owner and manager. It pays far, far lower minimum than the law is ask for, not to mention that this restaurant doesn’t have any nowadays computerized income system that may raised the possibility of intentional running unreported taxes or money laundering. The manger “ban” or “van” always make promises to its employees and intentionally trick on in order to gain self benefit. Please don’t support this kind of restaurant, and the restaurant has serious hygiene issues need to be resolved.

Went for a Dim Sum on Monday morning and the place was fairly busy. The Dim Sum is great and excellent variety. The service is decent. Good place for a quick early Dim Sum fix.

This is the only restaurant my family and in-laws go to for dim sum. It's great and comfy place to go compared to all the other restaurants. Service is super fast and efficient.

The workers are friendly but 13 pounds for instant noodles... The food is not good at all, I didn't enjoy it. Personally, I would pay double to eat well.

Love how this restaurant opens before noon. The duck noodle soup is delicious. Loses one star as the lunch soup was expensive and cost £13.50 including service charge. However to circumvent this, for diners on a budget order the beef broth soup for £5 and a large bowl of steamed rice for £3.20 (see photo). Nice and hot on a cold rainy day. The seating upstairs lacks ambience. 12.5% compulsory tip is added to your bill. Tea is charged as an extra.

A variety of Chinese traditional dishes to choose from and the taste is quite authentic. Steamed turbo is very difficult to find in other restaurants in the UK. I have to come here to fulfil my craving for this. Frog leg pot is also delicious but a little spicy.

The worst place to try Chinese, horrible experience

Dinner in Chinatown. It's generally difficult to find a place there at dinner time, so we noticed this place where there were no queues. Right after entering, we felt a strange smell, but we didn't care because the people who ate looked like they liked it. We sat down at the table and the rude waitress shouted instead of speaking calmly. The waiter served the glasses by putting his fingers into them... The order came quickly, about 10 minutes after ordering. My dish was ok. I would rate it 3.5/5, but the other dishes were tasteless, but my mother's dish was 4/5 and very good. In general, the food depends on what item. The sweet and sour chicken was ok, but the pasta with vegetables had no taste. The waiter was nice, but the waitress was a disaster. She threw the receipt and almost broke the card when she put it into the terminal. We had the impression that she added an additional £6 to the total, but we didn't see it so we have no proof. Overall, I don't recommend it at all.

The food was served quickly, but it was not good. The baked chicken from the chef's specialty tasted like it was taken out of the broth too late, it was overcooked, and more than half of the dish consisted of bones.

The food was okay. We both had fried noodles with chicken. The waitress was difficult to understand and because of the poor communication she was even more in a bad mood than she already was and slammed the food on our table. Very unfriendly staff and everything was very unclean.

The menu offers a good selection, and the portion size is very good. For group dining (not fine dining), it's worth considering if you are in London China Town.

There are so many Cantonese restaurants in London's Chinatown so sometimes you will just have to try your luck out. We picked this place for our 1st dinner in London and it appeared to be a decent choice. The dishes here are a bit cheaper in general compared to other Cantonese restaurants in the area, but the taste were pretty good. Service was good as well. The atmosphere and set up is a bit "old school" and plain, but the window table we had offers a good view of the bustle in the street. We even came back for another dinner before our Hadestown show.

This restaurant seemed a fair choice on a busy saturday early evening after a show. We had been trying to pick out a winner but yet again were foiled. Used to go to Wong Kei which is close to this one but was not in the mood at my now older age for their brusque cust service. Oh dear, again we erred - there was a real musty smell as we entered - I nearly left right then. Very dated tired decor and furniture and harsh lighting. Fast service from quite pleasant staff but felt rushed to order. Food nothing special, a chefs special dish of minced pork and green beans was perhaps the best item but contained way too much MSG for our provincial tastes. The egg fried rice was the worst - bland and somehow 'old' . Portions fairly generous but steep pricing for the quality which seems the norm for ChinaTown today.

Unfortunately this restaurant was dire. We attended for lunch today and were seated right at the back of the restaurant where we could clearly smell the toilets which were almost directly next to our table. I tried to close the door to block some of the very unpleasant odour but was told by the waiting staff not to do so. When I complained about the smell, the waitress just walked away. The food was at best, average, with one of our main meals being barely warm. I’m certain there are far better restaurants in Chinatown in which to spend your money, avoid!!

Dim sum that will you full for days

Looking for a nice brunch cum lunch? Then Lido should be your next stop. The wide variety of dim sum from steamed, fried and grilled means you also have a wide choice of meat or vegetarian dim sum served as little "parcels". The menu will give a short summary of what the dim sum is for e.g.prawn in bean curd roll, asparagus dumplings etc. This helps you to know what you are ordering. Staff especially management are very welcoming and friendly never stop short to thank you on your way out. The restaurant is clean and has a nice ambience.

We had a lovely server. Unfortunately I did not ask her name. Food was not that great. We ordered the meal for 3. The starters were not good. The crispy duck was overcooked and dry. The spicy prawns were actually nice. The rest of the mains were ok but nothing special.

Authentic Chinese food in an authentic setting. Duck pancakes slightly overcooked and dry but sweet and sour chicken and black bean beef delicious. Reasonably priced and service efficient.

Poor food quality. I usually try to avoid writing bad reviews but there were rotten pieces of meat (duck) in my plate and staff was of no help whatsoever. There was not a single good thing about the meal.

Excellent food, service and reasonably priced

Fuimos a comer mi familia y yo (marido y niñas de 9 años) en marzo y nos gustó mucho. Comida típica chiná, precio moderado (para ser Londres), servicio muy rápido y amable y situado en plano barrio chino. No le pongo la quinta estrella porque las mesas estaban muy juntas y eso nos agobio un poco pero aún así lo recomiendo.

This has been a go to place for Dimsum for me and my family now, their Dimsum are so nice and authentic . I also recommend the Beef Hofun and the Singapore noodles

Great food, fantastic service and always busy

They make a great bowl of duck noodle soup here! Really tasty, good cuts of roasted duck meat, and good value for money! Service was really good too. Would come back here again just for that.

4 snacks, 2 tea seats +10% service charge The snacks tasted good, but the tea was a bit weak. I ordered the "squid cake" dipped in sweet and sour sauce (a must-eat, delicious, chewy meat ~ the chef made it very well). The yakisoba buns all taste good. It was fried well, slightly crispy but slightly hard, and the soy sauce added a good flavor. Chive pancake (the four dim sums are relatively poor - a little - there is not enough leek and meat filling, and the skin is not crispy enough, so this one is average). I score 8 points (out of 10)

Average food for dimsum. One of the less busy dimsum restaurants in Chinatown. No wait when getting there before 12 on weekend. Waiters are nice and good attitude.

Wonton noodles and xiao long bao cost 5,500 yen. It's a bit of a rip-off, as they don't take orders easily and charge a 10% service charge even though they don't show any kindness.

Second time, this time the service is really bad, the manager, an old guy, is really rude. And they don’t provide the actual but just a handwritten number, it’s not trustworthy at all! Won’t come here any more!!!!

I came to this restaurant because a dear friend of mine came before and she recommended it . The staff are lovely, but unfortunately I didn’t enjoy the food that much. The beef and the aubergine we requested was full of salt, the egg fried rice looked as if it was boiled rice mixed with eggs. I could barely finish what was on my plate . I really enjoyed the sweet and sour chicken as well the pancakes with crispy duck . It wasn’t the best Chinese cuisine I have tried. They could also improve the presentation.

Food was on the average good. Service: Average Ordered Lamb Chow Fun. The meat did not taste like lamb. Price is a bit above average.

Quick dinner in Chinatown. The food is not so amazing but tastes good when served hot. The restaurant was not too crowded when I was there, so me and my friends had a good chat while eating. I think it’s better to have savoury dishes, cause we had better baos at other places. But I really like this place, the atmosphere and service is really satisfying.

Good dim sum, not great but good enough, especially the prices are competitive and less expensive than many others in Chinatown. Also, it is one of the "oldest Chinese restaurants" that have managed to survive from COVID, still recommended.

I've loved this place for decades. Tried new places and always come back. Dim sum is very delicious and great value. I just wished they give you more sauce, and also stop hovering like vultures to tidy away your dish. A China Town, Classic Establishment!

Simply awful atmosphere. Staff was so loud - it felt like we weee intruders at a staff party. Inattentive service. Too many other hood options around to choose this restaurant

Cet établissement, qui ,il est vrai, n’est guère fréquenté par les occidentaux, propose des plats classiques fort copieux et a des prix raisonnables et de toute façon justifiés. Contrairement à ce que l’on peut lire, l’accueil est courtois et le service aussi rapide qu’efficace.

The food was overcooked, I shared fried pork chops that were horrible, the chicken was covered with a super sweet glaze and the duck was super dry. A tourist trap for sure. Unfortunately I didn't choose it. It is on the principal road of Chinatown. I feel bad for the waitresses.

Extraordinarily productive waitresses,I had the impression we must have been their zillionth customer and it was not a novel experience for them I enjoyed my Char Sui very much ,sauce with chicken satay good My partner did not like the taro coconut pudding -it was a little light Prawn fritters good I thought the wine was a little light also If you want good food served very promptly this is the place but a little expensive Very busy with Chinese families downstairs foreigners upstairs —not exactly precise. Next time I will try a red wine

The soup was good. The noodles with king prawns not, the noodles were dark brown, dry and most of them sticky, with few prawns and almost nothing else. The bill handwritten, the noodles £18,00 and £3,5 for service.

Great service, no, it was an excellent service. As they say in the trade, excellent service will always bring costumers back but bad service, no matter how good the food is, won't. Dim sum was one of the best too BTW.

Has a very tasty, reasonably-priced meal here with friends yesterday. Friendly staff and excellent food. Will be back soon.
