When in Chinatown.. you must visit Lido, its the best Chinese restaurant on Gerrard street 100%

Do not stop ! Unprofessional service, arrogant and oppressive waitress. Despite an empty restaurant, the waitress seemed very eager to clear our table, to the point of dropping the chopsticks and food on me… Once the meal is paid, we ask for an invoice only to be informed that it is impossible to get one. As a foreigner/tourist, we feel like we’ve been had!

I won’t say it loudly but this is probably the best homely dim sum place in Chinatown. Food and service are impeccable. Prices have sadly increased significantly since lockdown but quality remains outstanding. Thankfully it doesn’t get busy as some other most western orientated Chinese restaurants that people will queue ages to get into. Which is good for me

The decoration is plain, but I feel the environment is clean. The waiters have good attitude and are very polite. The food tastes pretty good. I don't think the MSG is too much. The location is convenient.

Seating was terrible, food quality has fallen. Everything we ordered was of poor quality: dim sums, noodles and mains…

Authentic Chinese restaurant in the heart of Chinatown. Food was excellent. We tried one of the set menus. Good value. Decor and furniture a little dated and a the staff were a bit too keen at coming to take your empties!

The Food was very good and enjoyable, Great Duck , Chicken Noodles and Prawns. Actually the House White Wine was more than acceptable too, which isn’t always the case in some Chinese Restaurants I have visited. We actually found the Staff pleasant and easy to deal with, despite reviews to the contrary, maybe this changes if they are busy.? Only real negative was maybe spend some money on the Restaurant appearance? The “basic” layout was okay and expected, but wouldn’t need much investment to “lift it” Would return

So much rice crackers underneath the aromatic duck. Is this £27 worth of aromatic duck? Maybe you get more if you eat inside the restaurant. Sad because the taste was so good.

So tasteless... Only dim sum was good. The utensils are dirty and the meat and carrots smell weird.

My experience at Lido China Town was below standard. The food seemed cold and dry, as if it had been sitting around all day and was reheated. To add to the disappointment, a staff member displayed rudeness, particularly when I chose not to pay the service charge. Despite my dislike for the situation, I ended up paying just to avoid further hassle. Overall, not a place I'd recommend at all.

We were advised by a Londoner, and we did not regret our choice. The food was excellent. However, the waiters were not friendly.

I have used this restaurant for the last 15 years and visited a few weeks ago where it’s seemed to have dramatically ‘gone down hill’ . Despite being Chinese New Year, it wasn’t difficult to get a table, which we thought was odd as most of the restaurants in China Town had massive queues. The food was really mediocre and the service was terrible, waitress was repeatedly reminded of the order, which was confirmed back to us, only not to have items served to us. A 12.5% service charge was also added to the bill - which has never been done previously and the cost of the meal was 1.5 times more expensive than last year. I will not be returning there as it was very poor value for money and having a table in their basement really killed the vibe.

Located in China Town we ended up here and really it was not a good idea Dirty place , team is unfriendly, food is so so and I supposed that they cook with MSG that make stomach trouble And very expensive for quality 100 £ for 3 pax Avoid

Great food and great service. Staff were very attentive, our teapot was never empty and i love that they cleared any empty plates and pots off the table. My baby daughter was a big fan of the prawn crackers and rice (and the spoons). I needed to change my baby but there wasnt any baby changing facilities so they very kindly let me change her downstairs as it was empty. Would visit again

Food is average if not a little bland on my last of two recent visits. I won’t be returning, as the waitresses are quite rude and made the experience quite unpleasant. No smile, no politeness. Just abruptly sling the food on the table and then randomly come over and pour the remaining drink from the Coke can into the glass without asking. Probably a tactic to make customers drink faster so they end up needing to buy another drink by the time the mains arrive. Wall next to my table was dirty. Toilet smelly. Staff can’t really speak much English. Won’t be returning after giving the place a try on two occasions. Also, the egg fried rice is not actually egg fried rice. It’s just steamed or boiled rice with a little bit of scrambled egg. Nothing like the egg fried rice you’d typically get from a Chinese takeaway.

Welcome was nice, food was very tasty and arrived promptly and hot. Service from waitresses was average.They appear disinterested in the customer and lack politeness and engagement.

Roast duck is good flavour with the sauce, but it just warm, can make it more hotter.

Mediocre dim sum rude staff won’t be back

1 étoile parce qu’on ne peut pas en mettre 0. J’ai eu le temps de terminer mon plat que mon amie n’avait toujours pas reçu le sien. Le pompon: la serveuse a voulu nous ramener l’addition alors que mon amie n’avait toujours pas eu son plat et au moment de l’addition on se fait quasiment agresser par la serveuse qui agacée sans raison nous impose comment diviser notre addition. Service déplorable. A FUIR.

Mon amie avait largement terminé son plat, la serveuse a demandé si on voulait l'addition j'ai dit que je n'avais pas eu le mien. J'ai encore attendu un peu. Le plat m'a enfin été servi. Nous voulions séparer l'addition cela a déplu à la serveuse. Pour une première expérience pendant le nouvel an chinois c'est un peu raté. Pas d'au revoir pour le départ. Pas commerçant du tout. Excepté la jeune femme qui était à l'extérieur et nous a bien renseigné.

This restaurant is the oldest in Chinatown. We were lucky to get a table without waiting too long. The food was average and somewhat clean. Reasonable priced compared to the restaurant nearby. Portion usually comes in three, not four pieces.

Great service, good food and a lovely experience in a really nice restaurant. The food arrived quickly and prices good value. A good visit that I would be happy to repeat another time.

Usual Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. Nothing special. Decent quality food. Dim sum average. Nothing to fault it. But nothing for it to stand above others. Would I go there again? Yes. But so many others to try.

My go-to restaurant for dim sum in Chinatown.

Food here is of a good portions and have dimsum available at dinner time. Having sat on the first floor, one of 3 servers smiled at our group and the atmosphere is not the same as the ground floor.

Don't know why some people have scored so low. The food & service was excellent.

I visited here with my friends in the summer and wanted to bring my husband to experience the quality of food and service . It didn’t disappoint , service was friendly and knowledgable and we went for a fish set meal . This was outstanding , all delicious and well presented . Definitely give this restaurant a go next time you are in China Town .

An enjoyable and quite tasty meal, a good ammount of variety and competitive prices. A good space for medium sized groups but you may want to enquire ahead about spacing/tables for larger groups if you'd like to be on a single table.

The Dim Sum was quite delicious. However, the rest of the food was okay (nothing exceptional). With 2 Coca-colas and a lemonade for drinks, the bill came to £112. Can’t quite see how despite their menu prices. My partner suggests they ordered a further aubergine dish that did not arrive. With no itemised receipt, it is difficult to query but I shall do nonetheless (my partner & son were dining). Particularly with cost of living crisis, one should be careful.

Very nice restaurant great food the set deals are really good value. The food tasted amazing and we all really enjoyed the experience and they take Debit cards a very nice experience overall. I would recommend this restaurant.

I often visit Lido restaurant for dinner, and it's common to see large groups of business professionals dining there. The restaurant maintains a high food quality standard. The soft and melt-in-the-mouth texture of the dim-sum dough, coupled with the deliciousness of the crispy BBQ pork buns, sallapao, Unfortunately, I couldn't capture any photos as everything on the table disappears quickly. Every dish on this table is excellent, except for the fried noodles with beef, tested boring. But that might because I'm probably already full.. ;)

Went with large group, the atmosphere was off from the start the old manager guy was rude and when asked if we could move the table a bit so we won’t be squashed to the window he refrained and talked back a lot. WE HAD TO ASK FOR THE SAME DRINKS AND SAUCE LIKE 5 TIMES before we even got them. They charge you for sauces which they give in tiny plates -The servers were rude with huffing and puffing when we asked for something we had already. We tried to be nice and happy but honestly don’t waste your energy with these people. The whole atmosphere was ruined for us and the chicken and pork smelled VERY OFF. Seriously save your money and go to some place else. They will literally just eat your money away and you don’t even feel contended when you leave. Honestly very disappointing especially the manager who was upstairs needs to learn how to speak with customers go take some classes.

What a great restaurant!! We always eat well in Soho and we have never failed to have a great Chinese but Lido was fab! We had the set menu for 2 with a lovely bottle of wine, all of the courses were outstanding and plentiful. The service was brilliant, speedy, efficient, great teamwork. The restaurant was soooooo busy and very full but this just added to the atmosphere and did not deter from the individual attention. Queues were building as we left!!

These people must hate having customers at their restaurant, it felt like we were prisoners being dished out our daily jail slop rations. The food itself was fairly decent, nothing special.

The food was good, but some of the staff had been really rude to us and we almost left without ordering because of this. There are lots of other places in China Town that are way better.

The service was very fast, even a little unconfortable. They don't have neither deserts or coffe, and charged 8£ for the service, meaning the 10% of the price.

We ate here as a group of 4 as it was december in London and we hadn’t made dinner reservations and they had tables available. The set menu for 4 was delicious, however, the chicken curry was the hottest thing I’ve ever tasted and we could all hardly touch it. My one pet peeve with London is the 10% service charge that’s always added on even when service is average and not deserved.

I have to say the restaurant’s boss has awful attitude, foods not bad , waiters and waitresses are good . just the boss , he needs to hide himself up and do not show up in the restaurant .

Authentic and tasty Cantonese style cuisine with reasonable pricing. Roasted duck was amazing, juicy, fresh, with crispy skin. Will visit again !

Great experience all the way! From entering the building the lady at the door was very welcoming, then we sat down and the waitress was lovely, everyone very polite and attentive. The wine was so good and at a great price for London (175 ml, £5.50) My girlfriend ordered the chicken sweet and sour, and I ordered the fried salt and pepper prawns, we shared pak choy with two portions of lovely rice. Everything was delicious, great quality! It turns out it's the first Chinese restaurant in the area, 1969! We'll definitely be going back!!!! 😁

So I don't understand why other reviewers have complained about the decor or cleanliness of Lido. That was fine. It's all white walls and feels very clean. The food was tasty but a bit overpriced (bok choi in garlic was £13!) Most of the staff were lovely - especially the female staff who were all very nice. But there was one young male waiter who was rude and strange. (Monday 13th November around 7pm). So basically I would have given this place a much higher rating if it wasn't for him.

Delicious. This is a little gem. Traditional menu relaxed atmosphere and dim sum most yum. The food was amazing we were left alone and felt relaxed and not rushed. To top it off it wasn't over priced. I can't wait to come vack the nxt time we're in London.

Been going there years, saying that the health and hygiene score doesn't score that highly these days, as 3 score on the door (last inspected 2022). That in mind, the set menus are value for money service is acceptable, the premises could do with a kick of paint.

Over many years have visited Chinatown and normally had good food. This is the first restaurant that we intend to return to. Great friendly staff, excellent choice of dishes and set meals. Well cooked and substantial portions. Would not choose their house white wine again, not to our taste. Not for a romantic evening but as a pre/post dinner Chinese meal was very good and we will be back

Took a tour via Lion Travel from Taiwan, and they set us up to eat here twice. I don't know the other food but the ones they chose for us were not good as per Chinese standards. The service was even worse, we asked for additional bowl and water from their Chinese servers using Mandarin and they seemed like they didn't understand basic Chinese as they really made it difficult and impossible to get basic things from them. Using English didn't help either. The place is cramped and cheap, really not a good place to eat for a tour so expensive from Lion Travel. Worst experience. We ended up not eating much and wanted to just give the food to the homeless, and guess what, they didn't allow it. They don't let you take the food you paid for.

We recently dined at LIDO in Chinatown and had a very delightful experience. We ordered a few dishes, including the Special “Yong Chow” Fried Rice with Shrimps and Pork, Shredded Chicken Fried Rice, and Roasted Duck Cantonese Style (half portion) with a request to have it off the bone. The food was a definite highlight of the evening. The Special “Yong Chow” Fried Rice with Shrimps and Pork had a wonderful combination of flavours, and the Shredded Chicken Fried Rice was nice as well, however we thought the special Fried rice tasted a bit better. The star of the show was the Roasted Duck Cantonese Style, which was tender, flavourful, and paired nicely with both rice dishes. The fact they were able to serve it off the bone made it even more enjoyable. We shared the duck between the two of us and it was more than enough, the portion sizes here are more than generous. Despite the great food and excellent service, we did feel like the atmosphere was lacking severely. The décor was very dated, couple that with no music playing. Overall, I would rate the food at LIDO a solid 8/10. The flavours were on point, and the service was excellent. It's a great spot in Chinatown to satisfy your Chinese cuisine cravings, and I would certainly recommend it for a tasty meal. Just don’t expect the most Instagram perfect location.

The egg fried rice was in fact steamed rice with a few bits of overcooked eggs. No seasoning, no garnishes

Just been for a meal, family of four. Food and service were excellent.

The food was below average. They dont bother serving the food to plates either. After that, when told to remove service charge, you're faced with a manager who angrily tells you that its written that they charge it so they cant remove it. Not a pleasant experience I'd say

Good food but very big portions if you are going with a small group, service is very quick and friendly.

Probably the most mediocre Chinese food I’ve had in the UK. It came recommended so I felt cheated when I found the rice was supermarket quality stuff, the char siu drenched in bbq sauce and the rest just…deeply underwhelming. I expected mediocre food but it didn’t deliver even that. All that for £23 so yeah definitely not worth your pennies.

Had a lovely meal with extended family - 12 people in total. We are regular patrons of Chinese restaurants and this is one of the better ones. The food was delicious, the seasoning was perfect and nobody complained of the usual "over use of msg thirst" afterwards. The portion size good, service from the staff really good and their prices really fair. Would definitely visit again. A nice Chinese restaurant 😋

Great Chinese restaurant in London. Have been going since 2009. Reasonable prices and great value for money (a must is the grilled pork dumplings).

I pretty much liked this restaurant as it was serving big portions of food and decent customer service. Although I would recommend people to check the bill near the end as from what I’ve seen they seem to over charged us abit or rounded up our bill. It’s honestly not great for the business if they lie to customer and have a high service charge as well. Staff members were super loud and just having fun whilst working. Although they were super nice by taking care of us and making the food super quick. I’m sure there’s plenty of restaurants in China town that has more respectable staff and not have such high service charge. Especially the hidden charge they do.

It's a decent solid dim sum restaurant that Cantonese diners will find familiar and comforting. Whilst there is nothing groundbreaking or innovative about Lido, it does do the hk dim sum classics very well. Har gau, sui mai, cheng fun, all good. And reasonably priced. Lunch was about £15 per person (14 dishes ordered). Sometimes good is good enough and old classics done well need to be applauded too.

Our Taxi driver recommended this Restaurant, service was quick, put 6 dishes on table, we all shared, very tasty food, bill came £106 inc drinks, which for London prices is very good. Would come again, one waitress was a bit abrupt, but prob due to...

Good food and customer service !

Really tasty food, friendly service and busy! With so much choice in China town, we chose Lido from sumply looking through the window and seeing the number of customers and clean white table cloths! Delicious food, friendly service and not rushed at all.

Love how this restaurant opens before noon. The duck noodle soup is delicious. Loses one star as the lunch soup was expensive and cost £13.50 including service charge.

Our favourite Dim Sum Restaurant in China Town.

I almost fell down after entering through the main entrance because I stepped on the round staircase on the second level of their red carpet. The roast duck was very greasy and I could see that some of the duck meat even had fat under the skin. There were also a few pieces of duck that smelled like it might have been near the butt. The bill doesn't list out the details and amount of each dish you ordered. There's only a total. So I don't know how they calculated the total amount of the bill. The seats inside are very crowded and the stairs to the toilet are very narrow. I won't come here again.

Organised a large group for dim sum. Been years since l had been here. Quality of food is still good. Portions are standard, service was friendly and efficient and dim sum prices are better than most restaurants in Chinatown. Came back again with another friend and her kids. Not ideal to sit in a small corner table as it’s hard to grab the attention of staff. This is my place to go for dim sum now.

Great dimsum and beef go fun noodles . 10/10 for taste . 3/10 for service Waitress clears your dishes while you are still eating . She doesn’t ask you but just grabs it and walks away . Also , they served all of my dishes...

Haven't visited this place in over 10 years, a group of 9 of us visited on a Friday evening. We arrived 20 mins early, as the table was ready, we were allowed to sit and wait for the others. I am currently using a crutch, I noticed there was no step free access or disabled toilets on the ground floor. We were surprised to see a few dim sum dishes available in the evening but they were a bit pricey. The kids were excited, we ordered many other dishes, special fried rice, crispy noodles, char siu, crispy pork, sweet and sour pork Hong Kong style, beef ho fun, steamed buns, clay pot tofu vegetable and many more. We absolutely enjoyed it all, service didn't take long. The kids were staving and tucked in straight away so I only managed to take a few photos. Would definitely visit again! Staff were polite and friendly too!
