Phoenix Chinese Takeaway in Dumfries & Galloway

Given the reviews we thought this would be a safe bet for a takeaway while visiting Dumfries. Unfortunately we weren’t inspired nor did we enjoy what we choose. The portion size we felt was smaller than a typical takeaway, the chicken balls should be renamed chicken pancakes and were not only very stodgy but greasy too. As we were hungry we ate what we ordered but we were sadly disappointed

I have always have had an excellent service, friendly staff, the meals have always been hot & fresh and always found a parking space outside.

A small family run Chinese - been going here 7 years now :) I've never had a crap meal, their Salt and pepper chicken is yum, as is the special foo young, and prawn toast Just saying ;) Thin prawn crackers :( -it would be nice to have fatter versions, but I hardly eat them anyways fat or thin. Yep, it's cash only - it always has been, but for me, that's not a drawback. A full meal costs around 8 pounds, which I think is good value. Food has always been hot and tasty.

Very poor rice, it resembled the rubber rice from supermarket instant micro wave rice and prawn crackers were stale 🙁

Rubber rice stale crackers and a sauce which is identical to b and m add boiling water ended up chucking the lot in the bin total waste of time and a reminder why I haven’t ordered in a long time

Used over and over for last couple years now never disappointed food is brilliant and always get a great laugh with the staff

My son had another delicious gluten free meal. Sweet and sour chicken Cantonese. Brilliant as usual😄😄

Lots of shouting at the children who worked there, food not up to standard, scruffy looking staff, not sure of the hygiene levels in there. Food was mediocre & semi warm even though we were a walk in. Won’t be returning ever

Poor expensive food. Served by children. The girl who served me had to stand on a box!!! Only takes cash. Would not recommend it. Most of my food went ion the dustbin.

Our new favourite Chinese in Dumfries. The service is friendly and the food is always hot & very tasty. Can’t say a bad word about this place.

Delicious gluten free menu cooked fresh and by a lovely family. Highly recommended. My son has coeliac disease and relies on a gluten free diet and he can eat here with confidence.....and loves it.

The food was absolutely delicious and would definitely recommend. The staff were friendly and they even had a gluten free menu which really helped!

We have visited this takeaway several times and every dish we order is excellent quality, much better than most Chinese takeaways we have used in the past. Service is always excellent and fast, even when they are very busy. A proper family business, lovely to see and a pleasure to support

We visited Dumfries just recently and Googled for the best Chinese Takeaway in Dumfries,well we were not disappointed in the least . The food was delicious with generous portions. The lady who owns the Phoenix was delightful,what a lovely chatty woman . My only problem now is finding a Chinese takeaway near me that’s as good as the Phoenix . Next time in in Dumfries I will most definitely be back . Thanks

The type of take away food that keeps you coming back, so tasty and doesn’t leave you with that bloated feeling / sickly aftertaste some other take away food does. Simply delicious!

Since discovering this Chinese a little over 2 years ago, I can honestly say eating another Chinese Takeout feels wrong. I have been back consistently not just for the brilliant food, but for the attentive service with regards to allergies. The owner cannot be faulted at all. The staff are always polite, and you know your custom is valued when the family recognise you when you enter. Absolutely amazing Chinese. I daren't go anywhere else!

This takeaway provides food that is above the usual pre-prepared offerings that you often get. The large spring was a thing of beauty !

On arrival the staff where lovely very friendly and chatty The food was delicious I got rice, chips, spring roll and curry sauce couldn’t fault it

The mini spring roll was great and the sweet chili chicken was fabulous . It is not that expensive and the staff is very friendly. Overall it was really good .

These were the worst salt and chill chips i have ever had!!!! Chips with salt on and 2 or 3 chill flakes and they were dry. i wont go to the this take away again

Ordered takeaway for three by phone for collection later that evening. The crispy spring rolls were enormous and really tasty while the chicken & pineapple and beef & mushroom dishes were delicious. Will definitely be ordering from the Phoenix again.

Have used here many times and food has been of a high standard. Owners very friendly Prices slightly higher than town centre. Excellent choice available

Have been using this wee gem of a Chinese takeaway for about a year. The food is authentic, fresh and flavoursome. Staff are always friendly and efficient. Never have to wait very long. Overall a great wee place.

very helpful and friendly when ordering. No MSG used although I didn't ask but I don't get the usual after thirst etc after eating here and the flavour is not compromised either. I would recommend the chow mien noodles both vegetarian and meat

Used several Chinese takeaways in the past however so far this one has been amazing Chicken fried rice alone is what my wife states the best she's had which is huge lol I've tried several different meals and al of which are bloody amazing the food is just stunning most def found my new local

Don't know what all the bad reviews are about used this takeaway since it opened, never had a bad meal yet. The couple who have it are very nice people and her father has been in the catering trade for many years as he has a place in Dalbeattie ... spot on food ....

Just had our 2nd takeaway from this takeaway. Both times have been very very good. We have tried most if not all of the Chinese takeaways and this one is the best. We had Crispy Chicken with sweet chilli both times. Very, very good. Would highly recommend!!

Enjoy the food here and have been back many times. Food tastes fresh and light. Only negatives are no delivery and cash only payment.

We have had a couple of excellent take away meals, but last nights was poor.We had a Crispy Salt & Pepper King Prawn served with thick slices of barely cooked onion! The other dish was Crispy Roast Duck with Plum Sauce. The duck was tasty after you removed a lot of fat, which if properly cooked, should not have been evident. The plum sauce was in fact a sweet sauce with junks of tinned pineapple! We had supposedly Fried Rice with each dish.Such a disappointment we won't be back.A

Chow mein was the worst I've ever had from a chinese takeaway. Came served in small polystyrene chip shop boxes and consisted of a few small thin noodles, cheap chmeameat and a fatty sauce...at £6 a pop it was really bad value for money. Extremely disappointed and won't be back here!bshboxes

Decided to try this place on recommendation but was disappointed. Chicken dish was poor and quite bland and chips tasted badly of fat. There are lots of chinese takeaways around so I am afraid that now that I have tried it I wont be back

Tried for the first time on Friday night, good clean carry out, quick service and most importantly good food!!!! And very reasonably priced.

Beef curry was tough , bland and an unappetising grey colour. Chicken and mushrooms with fried rice was also tough and tasteless.Very disappointed, wont rush back.

Parents here and had takeaway. They say the same, not Cotton House in Longcroft standard but very good. Wojceich you must have caught them on a bad night or have gone somewhere else and mistaken which takeaway.

I have ordered my usual salt & pepper chicken as I don't like to experiment when ordering from new place. Unfortunately the chicken was too salty and there was lack of quality too (i don't expect the food from takeaway to be highest quality but average at least). Wouldn't recommend the place. Maybe I will go there again in a good couple of months to see if anything has changed

As you will see from my other Chinese reviews in Dumfries, they range from okay to dire. When I noted this new takeaway, I thought, will my hopes be dashed again? They were not. Whilst not quite up there with the benchmark Cotton House in Longcroft in the central belt, Dumfries finally gets a good Chinese. No MSG overload. Excellent prawn toast, Peking Beef (Shredded Crispy Beef), Beef Curry and tasty rice. 2nd Visit Peking Chicken and Spare ribs, really good again. Friendly service. Decent Chinese comes to Dumfries!!!!
