Canton House in Dumfries & Galloway

My partner and I visited this establishment tonight. We chose a few dishes from the menu, only to be told it's a CASH ONLY BUSINESS! It would seem that all takeaways in this town have the same policy. I wonder why? I'll let you draw your own conclusions? And it isn't to save on bank charges!

We had just arrived for a week's stay in Kirkcudbright and so had a takeaway. We rang in advance, the food was ready when the said it would be. We had 3 dishes and a rice (you never know how large the dishes will be) and it actually provided us with another meal the next day. The food tasted freshly cooked and very nice. There's a varied menu, so we could try dishes new to us. Definitely somewhere to try if you're in the area.

Excellent deep fried vegetarian tofu dishes, one of the best takeaways we've been to and quick service.

Had a lot better. The chop suey was full of beam sprouts - weird- and the other dishes weren’t much better. Wouldn’t return here or recommend.

GREAT TAKEAWAY BELIEVE ME. I have a vast knowledge of Chinese food and this is an absolute gem! Cantonese dishes cooked as they should be. Large portions and very well prepared! We visited a few times over a short break.

Good food from a more varied menu than an average Chinese take away. The staff are also friendly & cheerful

We stayed at the local campsite and hubby went to collect a takeaway to enjoy in the camper! It was delicious! Ready in 10 mins piping hot and do tasty hubby had young chow fried rice and I had Chinese vegetables to go with my quinoa both were delicious! Good size portions too! Will use again when in the area

Great takeaway from the Canton House tonight. We had crispy duck and pancakes, chicken and lemon, mixed meat in Cantonese sauce and all was scrumptious..

We had a takeaway whilst on holiday and I can only say it was very much lacking in any sort of taste or quality. The prawn and cashew in chilli sauce was gluteness and sweet. In fairness the chicken balls were crispy but again the sweet and sour sauce was glupy and just sweet. The takeaway was incredibly busy so I can only hope we chose poorly!

Visited when I was last staying in the area for a break away. The satay chicken skewers in the peanut sauce are possibly the best I have ever had and I've had a few! Absolutely to die for. Unfortunately the chicken chow mein was quite bland and boring. Definately be visiting again if not just for the satay skewers!!

Don't waste your money this place is rubbish. We ordered a few dishes and each was poor. Life is too short to waste on bad takeaway.

Very good Chinese takeaway. Been to a lot of Chinese restaurants over the years and the curry is the best here by a long way

On holiday in the area looking for takeaway on a wet Monday evening in October. A quick look at reviews on Trip Advisor suggested the Canton House was worth a try. Certainly the price of the food was very reasonable and service was quick. As for the food, the salt and pepper crispy spicy chicken was certainly very spicy - but tasted lovely. However, the sauce for the lemon chicken was almost too sharp. The main complaint from all of us was that the egg fried rice was stodgy and absolutely caked in grease, making it inedible. I think egg fried rice should be light and fluffy - may be we're too spoilt at home with a brilliant local Chinese takeaway.

Curry sauce from here is amazing! Fried rice is always full of flavour! 'chips in a bag' from previous comment.. To put in tinfoil containers they would end up soggy on the home run! Everything is crisp and tastes fresh well done canton. Number one choice always!

My family ate here recently and were very happy with both the service and the food! A good quality Chinese, they even do fortune cookies!

Cantón es, por mucho, mi favorito para llevar en kirkcudbright. El picante de pollo frito en rodajas es increíble. Buenas porciones, buenos precios, personal amable. Siempre listo a tiempo si un pedido o teléfono esperar si puedes pedir en el mostrador. Siempre se siente lleno y muy satisfecho después de una comida. Nunca he tenido una mala comida de cantón!

Nowhere near as good as Chen's Kitchen and will not re-visit. Good for anyone on a budget, as the individual dishes are priced at an all time low compared with any other takeaway in Scotland....

We had a takeaway last night from Canton House and it wasn't great. Chicken curry was watery and my chicken wings were dry and tasteless. Won't be back.

La primera impresión cuando entré en era que el lugar olía de grasa, no en una buena manera tampoco, pero como se hacía tarde fueron empujados por la variedad y pedimos aquí de todos modos. Las raciones de patatas fritas eran bastante pequeñas (estaban en una bolsa de papel en vez de en una bandeja y luego envueltas en papel) pero el resto de la orden era de porciones tamaño normal. No creo que volvería a comer desde allí de nuevo.

Nos gustó tanto que volvimos dos noches más tarde. Necesitábamos una comida para llevar, así que podíamos comer y jugar por la impresionante Bahía kirkcudbright durante las vacaciones.

Ok food, but lemon chicken sauce was cold, price was really good though, so would still go there again, just checking sauce temperatures.

Having used this takeaway many times over the years, I have never been disappointed. The range is really extensive and even more impressive is the knowledge of the lad who is behind the counter. You tell him your order and immediately he writes down its menu number for processing in the kitchen. Worth a visit just to see this guy in action.Parking is at the door with level floor access. TV on in the background and newspapers are there if you want a read while you are waiting.

Have a very good menu, ordered to takeaway. This was for five people and every dish was excellent. All portions were large!

Over the last 26 years we have been visiting friends in Kirkcudbright and have always eaten take aways from here. We heard that this time they had changed hands so were a bit worried that the standard would have dropped. Our fears were ill founded and the meal we had was fabulous. Thank you.

Friends up FTP. North East England and it was their treat, quick service and good menu. Special fried rice, plenty of meat.

The food was not the best and the value for money wasn't the best and service was ok tasting I would recommend going to the other Chinese so in general it wasn't a great experience

A very good takeaway restaurant. Our food was ready in15 minutes and tasted very fresh. The usual menu for a Chinese takeaway at normal prices. One of the best that we have been to for the price.

The canton house has recently changed hands and is still the best chinese in Kirkcudbright. The other one doesn't quite cut it I'm afraid.
