Philpotts is mostly a more ‘upmarket’ takeaway sandwich, salad, soup and roast meat establishment. One of their signatures salad will cost around £4.55. However, I believe the price is well worth it. For this you get a massive portion of your salad of choice, and in my experience, the fillings have always been fresh and tasty. The salad is made up in front of you so you can tweak the order slightly too. There are often queues at peak lunch but these move quickly. Only down side is that unfortunately most of the till staff are not the friendliest.

This mainly take-away place offers a few tables at which you can enjoy a very good sit-down breakfast, about five minutes’ walk from Princes Street in the city centre. No loo.

I had BBQ beef soup today and it actually had bits of hair in it. I am not sure if these were human hair or something from some kind of packaging, but it is, quite possibly, the most disgusting thing I seen in a food establishment.

Moved office recently so thought would try as just around the corner. Sandwich very pricey and on opening found the bread stale to the point of being toast like. Complained to them via their Web site no reply. Loads of better choice in the area so avoid I would say.

Called in for breakfast on our first morning. Very clean and nice smell to the place. Big indicators to me. Nice chap took our order which seemed to take quite while to come out. Not that we were in a hurry but this place will never make their fortune. Food was very nice. Tasty, sufficient and hits the spot.

A group of 4 of us ate here on a Saturday morning. The food was ok, but not the best breakfast ever! The sausages were rubbery and bacon was like cardboard. At 9am, there was hardly any breakfast foods left which is a shame when it is advertised outside. We ended up having a sausage and bacon roll. Perhaps we should have been there for 8am instead! Seems a busy spot for business people collecting food before work and also builders get the breakfasts. Maybe food-wise they were having an off day but we weren't that impressed to say it was busy. The staff are lovely here though and nothing is too much trouble. May pop in next time in Edinburgh and see if its any better then!

Loved this place! make your own sandwiches/salads or order from the massive menu provided. Staff were friendly and explained the ordering process to me as I've never been there before and prices were reasonable as well.

My very young children and I had a shocking experience with the manager at this store today after being sorely misunderstood then treated like animals; we walked away genuinely floored at the way we had been treated, and physically pushed out of the store. In hindsight I regret not standing my ground and waiving my rights in the power-hungry lion’s face. I will be delighted to never return nor give our recommendation to any friends or family. So long, Hotel Chocolat.

Was recommended here as I am celiac and they have a gf menu. As we were unsure what time we would be going (prior commitment before hand) I did not book. We arrived at 2.45pm and there was a sign outside saying 'bookings only, no walk ins' This was NOT on their website. We went in and spoke to a female member of staff who advised exactly what the sign had said. I then spoke to a male member of staff and asked where on their website it stated what the sign said, he said it didn't. Advised that due to rugby being on, they were unusually busy. The restaurant is large and they were not full to capacity. Asked if there was anyway we could have a table for 2 for an hour, point blank told no. We won't be returning.

Popped in for a pint en route to the Taylor Swift gig at Murrayfield. It can be found at the west end of Princes Street, just as you start walking down Queensferry Road. To be honest, our pints weren’t amazing. Two of us opted for the Pravha and found them a bit flat and sickly. A real shame, because the selection of draughts on offer was great and the pub itself had a nice traditional feel to it. Cost wise, by far the cheapest round of the day but for quality, one of the weakest.
