Philpotts in Birmingham

I have just had a sweet chill chicken wrap. It was worth every penny. The server was a very helpful & polite. Will be my new place to go to 😊

I had a 7 item fry up. They don’t do beans ? Also it’s far too oily - everything. Effectively they deep fried my egg in 3 inches of oil. The sausages tasted good though and the coffee was good. Staff are nice.

The woman with dark hair is so rude. "Take your hands off the glass, can't you see the signs everywhere" lol. No way to speak to customers! Also the last couple of times I have been the baguette has been stale. It's a shame because I usually really like philpots. The lady has a serious attitude problem she has been rude to me before! Shan't be visiting again. Staff in the other one are lovely however!

Unfortunately this has gone completely downhill. I've used this sandwich place for many years. Now they use cheap bread,cheap ingredients and charge you more then before. Avoid at all cost not worth the price you pay anymore!!!

I prefer a local provider over a chain any day, but this place takes the biscuit. The staff weren't welcoming (apart from the lady at the till, she was polite), there was no menu or clear instructions set to customers on ordering, apart from "choose your bread and your filling", but without a menu, the only way to know what fillings there are, is to ask. If you get asked this repeatedly by several customers over the course of a day, I'm not surprised staff attitude is low. Make it clear to the customer what is available, put up a menu, it's not rocket science! I've been to other independent sandwich makers, with menus, and friendlier staff, I don't know how hard setting a menu up could be!

Pretty disorganised place when I went, no queuing system, menu was not easy to understand, when I asked for one of that salad options to be made into a sandwich I was told no, the fridge was not working so all drinks were warm and the hot food section did not look appealing. Will not be going back

Super friendly service, really good choice of fillings, lots of fresh salads and onion! It would be 5 stars if the bread was better. Small area to eat indoors if you'd rather. A bonus was being called bab 😄❤️

I just purchased a ham brie and cranberry baguette for £7. Absolutley not edible ham. It looks like its from a bargain shelf in a cheap supermarket. ... complete waste of £7 !!! This used to be a premium sandwich shop and really did not mind paying that little bit extra... Certainly will not be returning! Also your staff should be wearing gloves !

The Sandwich was really Nice. But I won't be going again only due to price nearly £10 for a Pork Sandwich, Bottle of pop and a pack chips.

Straight forward and pleasant place to have some food. Staff were friendly and provided excellent service. The toasties we had were hot and well filled and pretty delicious tbh considering the price.

Great place to grab a lunch. Feels more like an independent store, than the larger chains. Excellent choice of sandwiche fillers and a healthy portion at a good price.

Absolutely unreal! Just called and got a sausage and egg sandwich on white with a latte , really fresh and nice egg cooked perfect, quick service and friendly staff, definitely call in if your passing.

Asked for the lunchtime salad meal deal and was told I could have it rice, pasta, cous-cous or mixed leaves based. Can’t eat carbs so asked for mixed leaves option but just regular lettuce not mixed. Can’t do that. Why? It’s mixed-leaves only. But I don’t like arugula, rocket etc. No. Wow! How to pointlessly do yourself out of a sale. Came across very much as a jobsworth.

I was stood in the queue to order a sandwich, but changed my mind and left after I saw the staff preparing the food with their bare hands!? Picking up the food items with their fingers! Surely in this day and age, gloves or tongs are readily available?? Lady preparing the sandwiches looked miserable and guy serving the salads was brusque and verging on rude to my partner, won’t be going back!

Mouthwatering and tasty sandwiches prepared on the spot. Worth every penny. Right place for people who appreciate proper sandwiches.

I live around the corner from Bennetts Hill restaurant got a menu 2 days ago saying about some new evening menu, so called it tonight and obviously not open lol talk about a plan went wrong there and I would lobe to hear your excuse cause this restaurant has survived through covid but yet can't meet the evening criteria??? Hmm sounds like a ploy!!!!!

Bacon is always burnt and hard at 7.30 in the morning. Not nice to eat

Fantastic Service! We use Philpotts for lunch orders when there is a medium to large meeting taking place at our office. Andy, in particular, is wonderful with helping with our bespoke (and mostly last minute) orders. The food provided is always fresh and tasty with a wide variety for choice. A big thank you to team at Philpotts Bennetts Hill!!

My go to if having a pint at the nearby Wellington, as they allow you to bring your own food in. Always a good selection of hot and cold fillings and a choice of decent breads.

I go visit daily for my lunch break. Food tastes fresh and homemade. They have a wide range of items to make a proper sandwich or salad. The fact that you can choose up to 7 veggies and 2 meats makes your salad very nutritious, which is great, because I get to dinner without eating any snacks, even though it's not a hypercaloric meal. Breakfast is also very tasty. Pricing is reasonable, but even if it was a bit more expensive I'd be happy to give them my money, rather than spending it for a McDonald's meal. People are nice, polite and they always welcome you with a smile. They're the icing on the cake. I mean, on the salad. 😁

I love this place, it has se omehing gör everyone and The foods yummy, it's clean and the staff are always helpful. I have been going here for 30 years. The best of lunch, brunch and so much more.

great choices of lunch items. hot and cold, I've had everything from an egg mayo sandwich up to a made to order stir fry and never been disappointed. service is always quick and food is all very reasonably priced

I often use Philpotts for the lunchtime meal deal of wrap/sandwich and a soup. Today, we went in for a sit down breakfast and cappuccino's. We weren't disappointed. Top drawer, premium sandwiches ( sausage, black pudding, egg, with a hash brown on the side). Cheers!

1st time back in philpotts in almost 15 years so sad to see how much it's gone down hill. Walked in to see a cashier sat on a chair talking to a sandwich maker about their weekend! Not much eye contact didnt even get asked if I wanted butter so ended up with a dry baguette! Not the philpotts I I used to know and love!

Comimos aquí ayer para almorzar y quedé muy impresionado con la calidad y el precio de los sándwiches recién hechos. Volveremos aquí! Todos los sándwiches se preparan frescos (¡con tantas opciones para rellenos!) Y también hay opciones de sopa y opciones de asado caliente. Lo recomiendo encarecidamente. Puedes comer o para llevar.

Had an appointment close to Philpotts and with time to spare popped in for a coffee. Didn't know this 'sandwich' place but was amazed by the food on offer. There was a full carvery on offer, which looked and smelled wonderful, but time restricts meant i just had time to dribble into my coffee. Price for a dinner was less than a fuver so ok there. Not much seating so possibly most buy and go, but enough while it was quiet when i called in. Service was a little slow, especially as i was the only one waiting, and the next chap comimg in experienced the same. Still place was great and a real find in central Birmingham. Also, being a hundred yards from New street station, a place to pop in for lunch when we go into Birmingham.

Good value for money and flexibility on salad fillings, etc

As I work in Birmingham I've been a frequenting Philpots for a number of years and favourite location is the corner of Bennett's Hill & Waterloo Rd.

The sandwiches are superb and always fresh and well presented. The staff are helpful and friendly and the quality of the food is excellent and very good value.

Right in Broadway Plaza so full of working class due to local riff raft unable to afford the higher prices for the food. Clean, friendly staff and a large selection if foods, some unexpected which is great. Only lost a star for high prices

Great choice of salads and sandwhiches

Tasty sarnies and the soups are something special. Roast sarnies with trimmings are particularly good too. Can be a bit of a queue sometimes and they shut at 2pm, so best get in there by 1.30pm or you might be left with whatever they have left...

A boon to the busy office worker Philpotts have an efficient and effective food management service with a host of great deli ingredients.

Love it. Stopped here for a breakfast sandwich because it's on my way to the office. I would usually go to greggs or similar but philpotts is only marginally more expensive but I would say much higher quality. Sausages are way better.

I'm still a bit of a regular here even if it's just for breakfast, I like nipping in on the way to work and picking up a finely crafted sandwich from Jo in the morning. Management has changed and I do miss seeing Luke he moved to another store and I hope you guys know how lucky you are to have him. Still a reliable and we'll run store, the staff are all really pleasant and hard working. There are loads of us who are regulars and that has to show they are doing something right. My old review: I am a regular so I must like the place. I've known the manager, since he started years ago. The quality has been the same excellent standard since I started going in early 2010. It gets busy at lunchtime everyday and breakfast on Friday don't let you put that off the staff are well trained and get people moving quickly and efficiently so that people can get in and out on good time. Also if your not sure what you might like, ask the guys and girls know what they are making and Taylor it however you like.

Good food at decent prices, they have a large number of options for sandwich fillings and decent quality. Also a few hot food options between soup and sausages, bacon etc. They do run out of some of the sandwich fillings though and had no coleslaw when I was there. Also the standard sandwiches feel a little skimpy - like smoked salmon was two pieces of bread, salmon itself and option for lemon and pepper. You do have the option though for different breads, etc. and so selecting one of these would make it better. All in all, very nice place

The food range was excellent and quality of ingredients were good however the staff on the salad and sandwich bar need a lesson in customer service....boarding on being rude when you are not 109% sure what the food ordering system is and you are not sure what to order. Also staff need to check stock of ingredients before taking order. Nicose salad .....no egg!!!!

The hot food is good, but the staff are so rude, "if you don't like working there, leave" comes to mind. The lady on the breakfast run needs to seriously cheer up!! The staff on the tills need to check their service levels. Never have I been so infuriated by being blatantly blanked when trying to order a coffe. Management really need to start paying attention! Pret service is 100% better!

Stopped for a coffee after a big meeting. Lovely welcoming staff, very clean and excellent coffee. A cracking coffee shop right in the heart of the city centre with seating outside. A very nice experiance and will return :-)

Very good selection of food for a lunchtime treat. The noodles prepared on the spot were particularly lovely. They do run out of fillings when it's busy so don't leave it too late.

Amazing food... Really nice shop. But the staff are miserable. Wasn't busy so they weren't under pressure yet there was no 'Hello' or 'Good Morning'... Just 'whatddya want'!! Really terrible customer service. Is a crying shame because the food is amazing.

This chain of sandwich shops is excellent, they make the best hot and cold sandwiches fresh every day and the most amazing soups. Would highly recommended visiting Philpotts for lunch, simply the best!

I made the mistake of going to this branch on Philpotts on a Friday morning for a solitary sausage sandwich. I have to say that I don’t think they could have been anymore unorganised and rude if they had actually tried. I didn’t mind that there was a bit of a wait but watching the two servers was like watching a disaster movie. The occasional sandwich was produced, probably at a rate that was half of what I would have expected, and occasionally the sandwich making was interrupted with shouts of “mushrooms!!” or “Sausage”. Whilst all this mayhem was going on on the hot food area 3 other members of staff stood around looking lost. After a lot of bemused looks from the other awaiting hungry customers I eventually got a sausage sandwich on toast. When I got to my work and tucked in I discovered that they hadn’t buttered the toast. A dry sausage toasted sandwich! Great!

Great food but the shop could do with a clean.

Came to the sandwich bar on my way to work. I asked for a cheese and onion sandwich to be made. Simple sandwich. The guy making the sandwich did not have a clue. He asked if i wanted butter and i said yes. The lump of butter he tried to spread was laughable. He then lifted a tub of pre-made cheese and onion mixture which had other things in it. I said no just cheese and onion. It was more onion than cheese. I then asked for some mayonaise and he got a huge spoonful and went to put it on the bread. I said no just a little. This will be the only time i will come here, prices are not exactly cheap and they should know how to make a basic cheese and onion sandwich.

I guess if you love meat you'll probably love this place. Otherwise the sandwiches are over-priced, small and lack creativity. My wrap which costs £3 wouldn't ever fill me up. Luckily I got a cake which would. Therefore if you like cake then they have patisserie valerie cakes which you can never go wrong with. The layout was a bit hectic with everyone in the way. Would go else where for my lunch.

Aparte de la sección de comida caliente, otras zonas nunca están preparados como se puede esperar de la gente el desayuno. Aladdin's Cave un verdadero para los amantes de sandwich. Hay sándwiches listo loco, pero mejor elegir pan, relleno y ensalada en el mostrador y ver su almuerzo tome forma. Excellent central lunch sandwich option, better quality than the usual chain shops, close to the Wellington real ale bar , popular with the offices around, go early to avoid busy.

Needing a lunchtime snack came across Philpotts for a first time. What fantastic choice on offer. While I enjoyed a hot beef baguette my wife had a turkey one. Limited seating but we found a spot to sit. Coffee, soup and many different filling for rolls, sandwiches and baguettes.

This takeaway sandwich shop is high end offering cooked meats and a good range of sandwiches, salad bar and other snacks. When in Birmingham financial district I always try to stop here. Good value.

I came here for a salad as they look really good. The staff weren't wearing gloves and were just thrusting hands into the different salad items and putting them into the bowl for mixing. I'm sure staff should be wearing disposable gloves (like when Subway pick your salad) or using a spoon or other utensil. I took it but didn't eat it. Offered it around the office but colleagues didn't want it either when I explained. I have complained to Philpotts. It's not as if the salads are cheap. My £4.10 salad went uneaten in the bin and I bought something else for lunch.

This sandwich shop is just up the road from my office and is my favourite place for a lunchtime sandwich. If you are in a hurry, like I often am, there is a tasty selection of pre-prepared sandwiches and wraps in the chiller cabinets, or if you prefer, you can have a bespoke sandwich or wrap made at another counter. At another counter is a selection of hot sandwich products and hot soup is also available. Prices are most reasonable and the service is excellent. You can also eat in as well. And to top it all, I can pay using Apple Pay! Highly recommended!

My other half goes here most days for his lunch. He has salads as a rule and they are awesome, Plenty of different ingredients and plenty of it.

Disappointed is an understatement. We ordered five sandwiches and four were wrong. Your business is to make sandwiches and your portrayal is that of a premium shop, how you can get it so wrong!?! Parts of the order were missing and cold to the point the cheese hadn't melted, sort it please quickly or we won't be coming back to you.

We only went in for a drink my tea was very good my son had a coffee and had a Danish pastry with it he said both were good. There are not many tables but it is comfy with friendly staff and an amazing array of sandwich fillings both hot and cold which are made up when you prder and a good selection of salads and also soup on offer.

Don't bother getting your breakfast from this Philpotts. Their fax system for orders doesn't work, usually because it would seem the staff don't check the fax machine, this has happened to me on a few occasions. If it's busy you can end up waiting a while for a relatively small order.Go to Great Charles Street instead, much better
