We did a 3 course lunch with bottomless Prosecco using a buyagift voucher The positives; The staff were polite and friendly and the Prosecco was flowing the whole time we were there . Hence 2 star review The negatives; The venue is very tired. The restaurant looks like a conference room and the carpets and furniture have seen better days They seem confused about my partners allergy Waited half hour for a menu. They got the orders wrong. Ordered a medium rare sirloin and got a medium well done fillet . Quality of steak wasn’t good even when re cooked and I had to eat on my own while my partners meal was re cooked Pudding we ordered vanilla creme with coffee sorbet - no coffee sorbet in sight . And the chocolate torte was meant to have chocolate stout ice cream which again was served with vanilla for some reason. The honey combe on the vanilla crème was stale

Long waits and delays between courses. Waited over 40 mins for starter to arrive. Further half hour for main. And a further half hour for pudding. All in all almost 2 hours for 3 courses. Food was good though. We were almost the only ones in there so not sure why it took so long

Had I read the reviews before jumping at the TravelZoo deal, I might have skipped it. The Mayfair actually overlooks Fortnum & Mason, where my husband had his first afternoon tea last year and was hooked on the experience. With the TravelZoo voucher, afternoon tea cost us £22.50 each, but the regular price is £75 = $100 per person. £22.50 was about all it was worth. Don’t get me wrong, it was better than expected after the horrible reviews I read, but I didn’t pay £75 and I could understand being disappointed if I had, especially when you could go next door and have a far superior afternoon tea experience at Fortnum & Mason. The service was much better than other reviewers mentioned. The sandwiches were good, but not outstanding. The scones were not fluffy. The pastries were good.

Let me start by saying we had amazing service from the staff on the floor - Neha in particular was fantastic. Food wise we were a bit disappointed. the beef tartare was not cut properly, the sea bream was not fresh and as a dish was very bland. The mains had very bland sauces. Sadly also the chocolate fondant dessert was far from runny and was a warm cake! However the Prosecco was flowing and overall we had an enjoyable evening. We hope that it might be better food-wise on the weekends when it’s busier.

Very bad experience at the weekend for all four of us. We were firstly asked to wait in the bar area as the restaurant was apparently too busy, however when we were taken through to the restaurant after twenty minutes the restaurant was actually 3/4 empty. Our first interaction with the waitress was her telling us that the salmon and steak tartar on the starters, one of the steaks on the main menu and the chocolate fondant on the deserts menu were all unavailable as they had been busy. Totally unacceptable and even more so that these missing items were not replaced with another dish. Once I explained how unhappy I was that these items were unavailable the salmon starter and fondant dessert were then miraculously available again. We also had to order our deserts when making our starter and main orders which was ridiculous and nothing more than the staff trying to speed up dining. We then, after ten minutes had to ask for our bread and when our starters finally arrived I had just two scallops for an £8 additional supplement. When our main courses arrived my wife's fish filet was full of bones and the spinach was way too salty, the steak had no steak knife with it and the pork belly was 50/50 meat and fat, but the fat was totally soft and inedible with no attempt made to crisp it up. We had also ordered broccoli that arrived to our table when two of us had finished our mains. The deserts then arrived to the table within three minutes of our main course plates being cleared, which was a clear indication that the staff wanted to go home. There was no music throughout and absolutely zero atmosphere with a Wetherspoons pub quite frankly having more life within it. Our bill then arrived and 21.50, without us even asking for it, which I refused to pay until I had spoken to the manager. I spoke to him, where I explained that my background was in bars and restaurants and after a short conversation he agreed to remove the balance and agreed that the service had not been the best or what they aim to achieve. This was very disappointing from start to finish, especially as my wife and I had stayed at The Cavensish Hotel two years prior and the experience was perfect. This however was a major let down and we will now most certainly not be returning. The waitress that served us was actually good and clearly felt uncomfortable with what she was being told to do and tell us and other than the poor points the food was acceptable. I don't like to write poor reviews, however this was clearly not a one off and is a common occurrence at this restaurant. Don't waste your time with this restaurant if you have a gift voucher. There are many better restaurants around in the area that will accept a gift voucher etc and they offer better quality food, better atmosphere and better service and experience will be offered. Also if they do run out of menu items, they will replace them with another item at short notice.

We booked a 3 course menu with free flowing Prosecco as had a voucher for Christmas last year Booking was easy over the telephone & we were advised that as we were dining on a Sunday we would be dining from the Sunday menu which we were happy with I received courtesy telephone call on Friday checking that were still dining & again we were told that we would be dining from the Sunday lunch menu Upon arrival there was a sign outside illustrating the Sunday menu so we were very surprised when seated to receive a full menu . When we asked the front of house lady she advised us that they had not been. Running the Sunday lunch for the past few months ! The food choice was lovely & some of the items had a supplement which is usual but all Sides are at an additional cost although big enough to share We both had fillet steak which was excellent but to not provide chips/fries seems a bit strange ? The Prosecco was very free flowing & the waitress was very attentive Food was delicious & would recommend but having to pay for extras would put us off visiting again

Genuinely so sad and disappointed. Was really looking forward to the three course meal with my partner and it and was such a let down. Feeling very mugged off by the whole experience. We'd ordered the Chunky chips and got fries for £6.50. I ordered a coffee which was burnt so requested a new one which was also burnt. We had bottomless drinks as part of our meal and got 3 drinks total in the hour and a half we were there. We waited so long for each drink that the last drink arrived as we were paying the bill.

My cousin had booked for us to have a Virgin Experience Afternoon Tea and Bottomless Prosecco. As it was the Cavendish Hotel, we were expecting high standards for £75 for each person. SHOCK. Firstly, we were kept waiting, once in and seated only to find lots of empty tables and only five tables were occupied, that is, ten people. We had to wait ages for our first glass of prosecco, it was about forty-five minutes later that we got our food. The scanty sandwiches were stale, some just had a thin layer of spreadable cheese and some sort of odd greenery. The scones were hard and dry. I requested and ordered tea as we intended to have three lots of teas to enjoy, after the first cup of tea from a tea pot that leaked, most of the other flavours were not available. Standard English Breakfast was available, again from a tea pot that leaked. Afternoon tea at an expensive hotel and teas on the menu, Black Teas, Herbal Teas and Green Teas - unavailable? Cheap prosecco was not bottomless; the glasses were topped up three times – that is it. The staff just disappeared whilst the customers were waiting to order tea or have more prosecco. We did not bother with the cakes. As our ninety minutes were not up, we decided to leave, there was no staff around, as we were walking out after another couple, we were asked for a service charge. This was the worst afternoon tea we had ever experienced. Will not be going there again.

The Worst Afternoon Tea ever. A ready bad Afternoon Tea we experienced today at the Cavendish Hotel. We booked through a website long time ago an Afternoon tea for 4 people called the luxury afternoon tea. We arrived on time at 2:20pm we been asked to wait outside and they called us after 15 minutes to the table. We ordered our tea soon as we sat. The tea arrived at 3:25 after we requested it again. Took 50 minutes to have the teas. The room had in total 20 guests not busy at all . The food we received was basically nothing like a classic afternoon tea. We had 2 piece of savoury food absolutely with no filling ,2 little cakes and two scones each clearly were frozen as they were crumbly. almost more staff than customers but the service was absolutely a caos. The Manager was very bad on directing the servers who appeared clearly inexperienced and scared to take charge. No decoration at all in the room just few fake flowers . The place is very cheap and the Hotel Manager togheter with the Pastry chef, the F&B, ( I doubt they have one) they need to go around and see what the others do. They never asked for tea refilling Please stop to call Luxury AT and rethink of the all experience and concept as you appear a looser in this game.

Whilst we had an enjoyable lunch, there were several anomalies to menu, no confit egg with beef tartare, squid missing from cod course which should have samphire but served with shredded cabbage which cheap alternative, also served with lots of chick peas which weren’t listed . Dessert wasn’t as advertised, a slice of blue cheese instead of the listed goats cheese mousse. Waitress named Jurate was very attentive and professional.

What a wonderful surprise! Tucked away on the 1st floor of The Cavendish, booked for a late birthday treat (for me!) via buyagift. Quieter than our usual places to eat, I thought it might not be that good. How wrong was I ?! Each dish was faultless. Perfectly cooked and presented. Prosecco topped up before we could complete a glass (when drinking at a reasonable and civilised pace!) . I'd expect to pay much more for this, but then, I might not have tried it. . . . Dan (the Maitre d') - understated presence, but deadly efficient at running a well-oiled machine. His humour was greatly appreciated - immediately put us at ease. Waiting Staff - attentive, but not overly attentive. A perfect lunch. (Note for Buyagift bookings - have to remember to take a printout of the final booking voucher!).

Believe me, if I could give it zero stars I would. This was the worst afternoon tea I have ever experienced. One older waitress was really lovely, two other younger members of staff had no interpersonal skills whatsoever. The prosecco is screw top.... cheap - like the sandwich fillings. The flutes are ....yes ...cheap and not what one would expect at this venue. Certainly not at all as shown in their publicity photos! One could pay a great deal less for a tasty authentic afternoon tea, virtually anywhere. The scones were hard and dry. The cakes, like the rest of the experience, were awful. Who is preparing this food? Are they trained? Does this establishment think that the customer, paying for a bottomless afternoon tea, is not discerning enough to know they are being offered a really cheap prosecco? These experiences should be a real treat especially given the price. Sadly I think many people, once they have been here, will vote with their feet and like us, will not return.

This cafe caters to hotel guests who get breakfast included. Buffet was lackluster so ordered off menu but couldn’t order a full English since it was on the buffet! Service was abysmal, maybe because we were there 30 minutes before end of breakfast. They were more interested in cleaning. I ordered an omelet assuming it came with all offered toppings but they only included cheese and no toast! Anyways skip this spot and got to cafe across the street.

We had afternoon tea with bottomless prosecco. The service was very slow and bad, we had to ask for tea at an afternoon tea, and when given the pot of tea we had to then ask for milk and a spoon. The food took a while to come out and was not worth the wait. It is all obviously pre-made and set aside for hours. The sandwiches were dry and stale, there was an odd choux pastry filled with a mushroom paste which should be avoided at all costs. The scones were stale and an effort to chew and the other desserts were very basic and the two mousse ones were both frozen when we received them. Unsure how this was allowed to leave the kitchen, the prosecco was the only positive thing and they were attentive to topping this up. Overall, would not recommend to anyone.

We were a party of 6 celebrating a joint 50th, 70th and 80th. We had the 3 course lunch with unlimited Prosecco. From the outset, we felt rushed to order and were told we had to order all 3 courses at the same time. Most of us don’t really drink and only stuck with a glass of Prosecco with one top up. Starter and main were ok, although we had to remind the waitress that we had ordered the red wine sauce to accompany the steak. By the time the sauce had arrived, the steak was cold. With the dessert, it was clear that the waitress had got the order wrong. They came back to us 3 times to double check what we’d ordered… it was frustrating as we were all very clear with what we had ordered and each of us could recite what each of us had ordered!! We ordered 4 tarts and 2 rhubarbs, so it was hardly confusing!! After the desserts, one of the parties asked if she could have her glass of Prosecco topped up and the waitress was quite rude with her response. She said no, because we were only entitled to 90 mins of top ups!! We were not told this during our meal and fact that only 2/6 parties drank Prosecco, I thought it quite petty of them to stick to this unknown rule especially as the lady organised and booked the table and particularly when we only drank probably a bottle and a half between us throughout the meal. Then very shortly after we settled the final bill, we were told they had to prepare the table for the next sitting and asked us on no uncertain terms to leave….This was the straw that broke the camel’s back and I felt compounded to write a review. Upon leaving, there was no queue of customers waiting to be sat, which was not a surprise since it was around 3:30pm so too late for lunch and too early for dinner and the restaurant was only at 40-50% capacity!! Having come from a restaurant background, I am fully aware of the challenges restauranteurs have and would never, out of spite, write a bad review. However this was my joint birthday celebration with a group of mature woman, some of whom had travelled in to London from afar, but this experience has left a bitter taste in what should have been a lovely lunch together. I suggest that this establishment reviews their practices and conveys the time limits imposed for ‘unlimited drinks’ to customers from the outset and ensure that staff are trained to take orders rather than infer that any confusion was caused by the customers. They should also not take large table bookings if their staff are unable to cope….In summary, food was ok (nothing special) but the rude service ruined our experience and day. The lady who booked the reservation is extremely upset and regrets that of all the places she could have booked, she chose this one for a very special occasion!! Never again!!

Very poor service from the start! Our waitress did not know what was on the menu and kept having to ask colleagues. After we placed our order, on at least 2 occasions our food did not arrive as the waitress did not take down the order correctly! I definitely will not be recommending this restaurant to friends and family.

Disappointed is an understatement! Took a friend for her birthday.. The booking was at 4pm but was told they were out of popular options due to the time! So out of four options only 3 one having a surcharge was available. No empathic apology or alternative option! Sat on a 4 table facing the wall! Requested to move which they did. We eat everything! The starter was gross .. Salmon in cream. Cold! The main was cod, so I need to say more! Tasteless. The desert was ok .. just ok! The lovely lady poured us generous wine before she disappeared which left us to pour our own wine - we should’ve asked for more wine but we were over it! Atmosphere was bland just like the food! All staff apart from one European lady were miserable and rude. I would suggest NOT going here at all.

My daughter had booked for us to have a Virgin Experience Afternoon Tea and Bottomless Prosecco. Unfortunately the staff were inattentive and food was the worst we have had during our 18 years of many afternoon experiences. As for the bottomless Prosecco 90 mins was rather awful having to keep asking the staff to top our glasses and then was told this is your last one and they came back and asked us to leave as our time was up. We could’ve taken our drinks to the bar. There were 14 tables not in use therefore it wasn’t necessary to say that to us and the other tables that we were talking to too. Would never go there again.

Was a bit worried after reading earlier reviews but we had an enjoyable 3 course lunch. It was the ‘Buy a gift’ experience of a 3 course lunch and a bottle of champagne for 2. We are not big drinkers and so didn’t finish the champagne although they topped it up frequently and kept it chilled. I have a cow’s milk intolerance and the chef took the trouble to come and speak to me. He explained how they could adapt the food to suit. This was refreshing as many places leave me with the vegan menu when I eat meat! We had poached salmon starter, followed by duck breast in a yakatori sauce and roasted cauliflower. I had goats cheese for dessert and my mum had the chocolate fondant. We had to pay for service and our tea and coffee but I expected that. The waitresses were very attentive throughout. We would go back. Very pleasant afternoon.

Everything is served with truffle - they did accommodate me by serving my sandwiches without it. Throughout tea nothing is replenished!! Tea is served in stainless steel leaky teapots - tea bags - thick pottery tea cups Prosecco warm/flat screw top bottles constantly asking to be refilled Room .. 80’s conference style !! Awful !! Unless you have been gifted a voucher avoid like the plague!! For a central London hotel it’s a disgrace ! Whilst that might put you off, the overall bill that night was an extra £48 but we must have drank that in fizz anyway so still a great deal. My girlfriend and I had a very disappointing experience at our recent visit on January 20th, 2024, at 5:45 PM. We had a pre-booked reservation at 6PM. We were met by an unprofessional maitre d' who displayed a negative attitude and made us wait at the bar . He huffed and Puffed each time he passed by. We waited for over 20 minutes at the bar without service (no one around) Other customers came and left . We did not get seated unti 6.25pm . This, along with the significant delays in receiving our food (almost an hour and a half for the main course), significantly impacted our evening as we had planned to attend a show afterwards. While the young waitresses who directly served us were friendly and attentive, the overall experience was severely hampered by the unprofessional demeanor of the maitre d', the evident lack of staff, and the resulting slow service. This was especially disappointing as it was a pre-planned birthday celebration for my girlfriend. It is important to note that the unprofessional behavior of the maitre d' and the lengthy service delays significantly detracted from our experience. While I appreciate the efforts of the waitresses who served us directly, the overall experience fell short of expectations. I hope that the restaurant will take this feedback seriously and address the issues raised, particularly regarding the maitre d's conduct and staff shortages. I have tried to contact the resturant directly via Kapil Vittolia (Food and Beverage Manager) several times via email and even the main enquiries email address which have all been ignored. Which suggests they do not care!

I would give them zero if I could. We went for our second Afternoon Tea her, as our first visit in August was appalling. We were promised we would be well looked after, but this was certainly not the case. In fact almost every guest in the busy room were all having the same experience. We waited for such a long time for our food, and with only two staff two staff to service the whole room it was diabolical . There was a lady there for her birthday and she got so annoyed with the lack of serving the Prosecco, she went and got the bottle herself and came to all the tables to serve us. We spoke to Kapil the manager who assured most tables we would get a refund, but three months on we still have not received it. Kapil admitted he had overbooked as there were tables in the bar area who were having the same neglect as us in the room. The guests were all talking about it, and the staff just shut the doors on the room and walked away. I would recommend you steer clear of this place at all costs.

Wow. I wish that was a good wow I’ve never been so disappointed in an experience I bought the bottemless Prosecco afternoon tea for my sisters Christmas present from virgin experience She must think I’m taking the mickey The photos suggested a lovely London setting and ambiance What we were met with was a conference room with curtains pulled so you couldn’t even see out of the windows. The chairs were borderline office quality and the table decor zero. We stirred our tea with a fork as table not laid properly. The staff did bring numerous (must have been low or no alcohol as we would have been on the floor! ) Prosecco refills. After 45 mins and still no food we asked. It came and was horrible. No other word. Photo is the what they describe as a turkey lettuce tomato ( which I guess is what we got) I’m usually so full I can’t finish and afternoon tea but in this case we had to go and get more food afterwards. 2 of the cakes were still frozen inside. I told the waitress. She said yes madam we keep them in the fridge. I asked to see the manager. She offered more sandwiches to make up for it then said “ so we good”. That’s summed up the customer service attempts. 2 of the items were missing and when we and other tables complained they eventually came after another 30 minutes when we were ready to leave. An abysmal experience and virgin should be ashamed to be selling such a thing

Food was excellent and delicious. The service was good although had to ask for the meal side dishes as were not served at same time but only took a moment. The dining room was very quiet and lacked atmosphere due to lack of customers possibly because it was midweek. There was a piano but no one playing. Overall it was a nice setting with good food but choose the night carefully.

Very slow service, booked for 12, wasn’t allowed in until 12:20. Took 15 mins to order and we notified the waitress that we had to leave at 2 for our theatre show, steak was lovely then dessert took 30 mins to come out so we had to leave before it was served to us. So we only got two courses and had to rush out. Wouldn’t recommend unless you have nothing planned for the day. 2 hours should have been enough for 3 courses co side ring the tables were virtually empty and saw around 5 staff to our table. Disappointed for the money as we also spent £45 there on top of voucher for 2 courses.

I would never ever go there again. Staff were useless and the manager was curt, surly and had no manners. He was only nice after we complained to his manager. None of the staff has a clue. Were not asked at any point if we wanted tea throughout the lunch. Embarrassing for me as I had booked this family affair for my mother’s birthday. Huge disappointment and no real recompense. The manager was kind, but still has not contacted me thereafter. Had to pay an extra £5 for anyone that wanted more (disgusting and stale) sandwiches. And get this, my father had a whole CLOVE of garlic in his sandwich. What a total joke and waste of our time. Never, never, never again!

We are a group of friends who after a long time due to the pandemic had finally found the time and an amazing place to meet and catch up. From the reservation up to the day of our afternoon tea everything was spot on. All the ladies who have assisted and served us was all very lovely and accomodating. We had the bottomless Prosecco afternoon tea which is indeed overflowing. Scones are freshly made along with the pastries and sandwiches. We ordered different teas we fancy and we were served fresh ones everytime we requested. This place is highly recommended and all their staffs are commendable for their high standard of service. Thank you to all who made our day another memorable one.

The Mayfair Lounge & Grill (formerly Petrichor) has now reopened following Lockdown and a refurbishment and it did not disappoint. Such a warm and friendly welcome from the staff, both in the bar and in the restaurant. The bar area has a piano which was being played by an excellent pianist. The newly decorated restaurant looks great, with clean, modern lines and colours and although it is a large room it is cozy and inviting. The star of the evening though was the food. The newly appointed head chef has produced an excellent and modern menu with something to suit all tastes and the standard and presentation of the food was sublime. The restaurant is in The Cavendish London Hotel and it is definitely the place to go on Jermyn Street.

This is my second visit to the recently re-named Mayfair Lounge and Grill Restaurant (previously Petrichor) at the Cavendish Hotel in Jermyn Street with my parents. The food and staff were all faultless. The reason for giving it a 4/5 and not 5/5 was due to how quiet it is there. The music was also rather odd (we thought it was a mobile tel that someone had left on a table!) and it was quite a 'functional' (as opposed to cosy) setting. Minor quibbles. The food didn't disappoint and the service was fantastic; I especially want to thank Amanda who made such an effort to make us feel welcome both before and during our visit. I thoroughly recommend it - and the location is rather lovely too. It sits right behind the famous Fortnum and Masons' Dept store and is close to all the West End shopping, theatres and bars/restaurants.

Dreadful place, I came in, it's a self-service type of place, you have to find a menu yourself when queue to the bar to place an order. I asked for a glass of wine that was £8 on the menu and they tried to charge me £11.90 for it. I asked why and none seemed to be able to explain, neither did they apologies. The staff behind the counter was pretty rude so I left.
