Peter's Chinese Takeaway in Wigan

I was looking forward to this as I heard so many good things about it but I have to say it was ok, had chicken balls, they were perfect, crispy batter, curry sauce ok, sweet n sour sauce ok. Fried rice was fine rice like that cook quick rice, wasn’t that great at all. Chicken chow mein again I was disappointed, it was cooked ok, noodles weren’t stodgy or anything and veg had the crunch,, chicken wasn’t really dry, opened it and it looked the part but it didn’t have any flavour at all. I know lots of people don’t eat it as it is and adds sauce but i shouldn’t have to do that to get it to taste better It was ok but definitely overrated Not cheap either

Bland food, queing to order is CHAOS and poor customer service... Went on a busy Saturday night which didn't help. But no signage at all being up anywhere to tell where to que plus a large obscuring crowd waiting about for orders all across the chippy consequently meant at least 6 people who walked in after me did infact get to thier orders in before me??!! As I stood for at least 15 minutes for no reason because it wasn't made clear anywhere that you have to go to the far left of the place to order despite there being multiple staff acting as cashiers directly opposite the entrance more or less. After a further 15 minute wait to get the food I made sure to comment some signage would have been helpful and explained the situation above just to be simply, "yeah"-ed at by the fella who served me. No big of a deal of course over the extra wait, but you at least expect a comment like that to be genuinely acknowledged beyond something more than just, " yeah" really. As someone who rarely uses takeaways don't know if queing like this is the norm, but no signage at least in such a large chippy seems counter intuitive to me?? Certainly , this sort of customer service is inexcusable though! Just thought I'd write this to ensure my comments ACTUALLY have been taken on board..... ...

I heard this was the best Chinese in Wigan so after many years I decided to try it and now go nowhere else. The food is just so amazing. Very very friendly staff. I cannot recommend highly enough

We have been going to this chippy probably 25/30 years both ourselves and our extended family. Never on one occasion has it failed to deliver good quality, tasty food, all freshly cooked and served piping hot. Several of our extended family members are gluten free and the staff and owner regularly advise on different meal options or food that be changed to accommodate their food intolerance. Can’t remember how many meals we have had over the years, probably thousands and not one meal has been served that we have had cause to complain about and some orders have been quite complex . It’s busy place and on certain evening you will have to wait whilst your food is prepared and cooked - but it’s worth the wait. They do take telephone orders and give an estimate of collection time which lets you queue jump. Peter’s often drops complimentary spring rolls or prawn crackers in the order as a nice gesture. Lovely food prepared and served by lovely people.

Absolutely shocking Chinese, came here for our tea, waited 50 minutes for orders after us to be given out then they gave us ours, missed loads of our order, food was disgusting cold and dry because it had been sat their for 50 minutes and they think it’s okay by giving you some spring rolls that taste like dogs urine. Won’t be returning, awful service

Last time I go peters! The special Chow mein was disgusting..! It tasted warmed up seconds with hardly any taste, meat or flavour.. Totally Rank!

I ve heard lots about Peters Chinese, but unfortunately the chicken curry had was just onions an crude chicken no peas or mushrooms it was very blend,plus the chicken fried rice was just chicken an fried rice no peas onions or mushrooms, its was very very blend,will never go here again,waste of money

Best Chinese yet! The food is absolutely amazing. I usually get the Singapore fried rice and salt and pepper spare ribs. The service is great and they have the very best spring rolls which they give out on the house. It's so popular so there is usually a long wait but the food is always worth it

Foods always spot on, service is always great and they cater for gluten free which is great. They don't do gluten free fish so I do have to travel to leigh for that but there's other items the can do which are always great. I usually get salt and pepper chips and beef in tomato with bean sprouts (with no soy sauce).

Used to go when I was in my teens when it was one shop always go back very good food

Beat Chinese I've ever had! Travelled 40mins for it as it had great reviews and I'm not one bit disappointed, this will be our go to Chinese from now on😁👍

Best Chinese in Wigan, ha ds down

It was nice don't get me wrong it's definitely better than most but also saying that I have had better the spring rolls wasn't as crispy as I like, as the prawn toast wasn't either and was bought from counter so think would be fresh...I didn't take it back as had a drink but likely they would rectify the issue if I did big downside is no delivery haha

All I can say is plan ahead and order just after or before peak times otherwise you'll be packed in the shop like tinned sardines. Can't fault the food though, it's tasty grub. Saying this, my wife has a gluten intolerance and the fried rice is laced with a soy sauce with gluten, just beware because the Peter's menu doesn't give much guidance on food allergies. The staff are friendly, and before you blink they'll have your order all ready with free spring rolls too. Parking around the takeaway is a bit chaotic, and Peters now take card as well as cash. Usually there's a free menu to take away with you in the shop as well, would recommend coming here prices are competitive and worth collecting.

Fantastic Chinese takeaway first time I've been there, but the only thing that they should do is put chow main in foil containers

Tried for the first time Sunday evening, had chicken satay and chips. The chicken satay was fantastic, the chip were ok! The price is on the high side. It’s not my local so will be rare I have the opportunity to visit! I would go again, I’ll try rice next time though!

Really disappointed when I ordered from here, got the salt & pepper ribs. They were so dry and like rocks I binned them, BUT to be fair, they substituted them with salt & pepper chips, which I didn't want. They explained about a mishap that happened with the ribs. But I wouldn't have minded waiting fir fresh ones.

Have been going here for years. Best chinese takeaway in the world! However, I'm absolutely gutted and disgusted that they have only scored 1 on their hygiene. This is not the first time this takeaway has scored badly on the hygiene rating. It seems they bring it back up to scratch but can't maintain it! Please. For God's sake, get yourselves on a food and hygiene course!! That's totally unacceptable by anyone's standards so we will be staying away until there are massive improvements.

Been here for ages, taste very well good. However someone told me that they failed their hygiene, so I checked it out. They scored a 1. This is terrible. So guys whatever you like or not, take care of yourself eating from here.

I live in Manchester but take great pleasure in visiting my friend in Wigan. Our plans revolve around chippy tea from Peters. No other chips compare. A small portion is family sized and gluten free too 😸

The portions are very good. The menu is extensive. The staff are friendly. The food is great. What more can I say about this restaurant. Always busy. The free spring rolls are a welcome treat. They are great to dip in their soups. Love the salt and pepper ribs & chips.

No matter what you buy it is always nice and fresh. And the always give you a bag full of spring rolls for free.

Highly anticipated after seeing the queues outside every Friday night, and ordered the standard fish, chips and mushy peas. Everything was freshly cooked, staff were lovely and very efficient (we didn’t wait long at all even though there was a queue!) and the prices were good. However the fish was quite bland and the peas looked and tasted like processed marrowfat peas which left the rest of it quite dry and boring! This is not a bad review, I just don’t get the hype and think the chippy part of this takeaway is average.

Normally excellent. But I got a special curry and it was loaded with onions and not much meat.

This is always a favourite, when we are in the area at Scotmans Flash and clearly a favourite for the locals too as there always seems to be a bit of a queue out of the door, although at the moment with the Covid restrictions they can only have a couple of customers inside the chippy at any one time and you have to wear a mask 😷when you are inside. There's also a partition safety screen set up at the counter for staff safety. The food here is always very tasty, with a huge selection on the menu. As Arnie once said "I'll be back!".

Great food. Both Chinese and English food were both good. Perfect for families who want a mix of the 2 but without having to go to 2 different places.
