Pesto in West Lancashire

This has been our third visit over a period of a few years. I remember our first visit was nice, but because the restaurant, believe it or not, had run out of most of the dishes. The second visit was, in part, curtosey of the management for a poor experience. The third visit was enjoyable with quite an extensive menu, and the food was very tasty without being a wow factor.But there is something wrong with the atmosphere at Pesto. The staff were curtious without being enthusiastic, and the use of stone tables makes the eating experience sound like a school dining hall. All clatter and noise.

Staff not very friendly, the guy front of house seemed like it was an inconvenience to him when we arrived. The food came after around 25 mins , it was luke warm , must of been stood around in the kitchen for a while. The small potatoes we ordered were mostly dark brown and hard looked like scratchings . The rest of the food was average at best…Not the best food wouldn’t go again .

Extremely disappointed. Every single dish, and we had 6, was tasteless…nothing was seasoned or flavourful. Had to ask for salt and pepper but it’s never the same when added after. Service was good, pleasant surroundings and good value for lunchtime but we wouldn’t go back.

A lovely place for a family dinner, really nice atmosphere and friendly staff especially our server Alisha! She was super friendly and always came checking on us!

Friendly service, beautiful ambiance food is amazing plenty of choices and everything eaten was 10/10, lovely staff and very polite will definitely be coming back

We had a lovely welcome from Shahna, Pesto’s manager, who ensured that our dining experience was a pleasant one. Our friendly waitress was very knowledgeable about the small plates and even made some recommendations about her favourites. We each chose 3 different dishes and all were delicious and filling. Thank you!

Reserved raw chicken wings and manager told us off !!! For not asking them to be cooked longer it's not a steak! She was abrasive and rude spoke to my nana disgusting !!! I understand it was marinated but it was translucent and bloody. Kind server who served us took the chicken off and she was kind. But whole dinner was ruined and the vibe. After other food was nice . New manager definitely needed.

Came for my daughter’s birthday and the staff were fabulous! Alisha was super friendly and attentive, and another waitress Jodie was very helpful in getting us seated. The food was lovely and flavourful and a great value for money,would definitely recommend!!

We used to come at least once a month, we absolutely loved this pesto easily the best one above all chains. However within this visit service was terrible had to get up and ask for our food order to be taken. Then continued to get a food (within a good time frame ) and started eating when I spotted a hair in my food. The waitress was polite and removed from our bill and took the plate away. Then we sat for roughly 20 mins with dirty plates surrounding us so overall wasn’t thrilled by the experience definitely expected more…

Manager was extremely rude and unhelpful. She is not welcoming instead looks very angry and customers appear to be a nuisance to her. We met up 3 friends for tea with a baby , having a small child with us was a huge inconvenience and we felt out of place , the place was empty and moving a table to fit a pram in would have been the perfect option however they sat us in the waiting area and said this was the only option because of the pram! The place had 3 tables in! Will not be going again

A group of friends/mums who meet up here one a month. It’s perfect location for us all, the service is always friendly & the food is always delicious. We’ll be back next month! Thank you as always

What can l say my wife’s 60th birthday with my daughters and grandchildren wasn’t busy so no excuses, service very poor 2 mains for adults and 3 for the kids missed, food my chicken skewers x2 overdone less than average overall experience mega disappointed won’t be going back, my only get out of jail free card going somewhere nice tomorrow

It’s somewhere that we eat at regularly because the food is fantastic and the staff are always warm and welcoming. Not to mention that you’re never waiting too long for your food to arrive. Our latest visit was on the 3rd of May and our server on that particularly day, Molly, was extremely pleasant and eager to please. A credit to the entire establishment, as are the rest of the staff.

Fantastic meal out, if tapas is your thing then pesto is a must. Katie, our server, was fantastic all night.

We booked a table for 6 on a Sunday, including 2 of my Grandparents who are rarely impressed with restaurant food. There’s an amazing selection of dishes, with something for everyone. It’s extremely well priced so thought we’d go all out and ordered loads of dishes, none of them disappointed. My Nan raved on the Frutti Di Mare, and she never really raves on anything. The service was excellent, food piping hot and delicious, so I’d definitely recommend a visit. We’ll be back!

we really enjoyed our visit here. Had not been before and had been told to expect something a bit different.The old pub has been refurbished and refitted to a very high standard and it has extensive car partking available.At first I was daunted by the range of dishes on offer, but then I realised that this was really an Italian tapas restaurant so you need to choose several dishes. Howver, do not over-order as the dishes are perhaps a bit bigger than average tapas. we had 3 each and some bread and it was close to too much!The staff were very friendly and very efficient and we will most certainly go back

Went last night for the 1st time, Wow. Everything from start to finish was brilliant. Our waitress 'Katie' deserves special thanks, greeted us really pleasantly and her service was really professional and friendly throughout.The food was outstanding, everything really hot and tasty. The dishes are small but just right and priced fairly. We chose six dishes in total, all excellent. There were lots of choices on the menu which should please every diner.We were so full we couldn't manage a dessert, maybe next time.We will definitely be back and will be bringing our friends as well.Highly recommended, give it a try, you won't be dissapointed.

Lovely restaurant. Been a couple of times recently. Knowledgeable staff of the foods on the menu. Really enjoyed the food & the atmosphere. Very comfortable & chilled out. No rushing or pushing your order. Definitely go again

Went in the afternoon and we were delighted by the food we ordered and drinks served by our waitress Mary Grace. My wife had the house white and I had a pint of Marstons 61 Deep Pale Ale on draught. Both were excellent. My wife ordered the Lamb Ragu, Deep fried potatoes and a Garlic Mushrooms on a small baguette with White Wine Sauce. My order was a Scallop and Prawn gratin in a creamy sauce, Deep Fried Potatoes with onions, olives, sun dried tomatoes, chillies and Garlic and finally slow roasted Belly Pork. The food was delightful. The portion sizes are about a third bigger than Tapas portions and therefore when we go again we are likely to reduce our order to 4 or 5 dishes. Definitely be returning and fully recommend this establishment to anyone.

I went last night with my husband to have the birthday offer of 6 dishes & a bottle of house wine for £28Sometimes these kind of offers can let you down, but not here.There were great choices on the set menu and the house red wine was very tasty.Food came quick as did the drinks.Everything was very tasty, the mushroom and calamari stood out, absolutely delicious.Great service from our waitress Angela and the rest of the team.As always very enjoyable and great value.

Visited today for the first time, will definitely revisit. The food was amazing, tasty and well presented. The staff were very friendly. Had the tapas (3 dishes for 9.99 and 3 dishes for 11.99) shared with my partner and there was more than enough to guarantee neither of us left hungry!!

Katie was a great server didn’t feel under pressure at all and was there to help and give advice all night couldn’t of been anymore helpful and kind to us tonight, definitely needs recognition for this! We were served by Marygrace who was excellent and couldn't have been more helpful. The food was delicious and the place was clean and very comfortable. We are heading back this weekend. Highly recommended!

Visited here yesterday lunchtime, not been for a long time but will certainly visit again sometime soon. Our dishes were exceptional, nice and hot, and extremely flavoursome, compliments to the chef. We were served by Katie a lovely young lady who was very attentive and very polite. Will definitely recommend to all our friends.

We always go to pesto Dickinson arms, when we are in this part of the country Very relaxing, excellent food and service. Never disappointed.

We came to eat on the 31st Jan, lunchtime. There were 8 of us, and we were served by Katie. Wow what a lovely young lady. Extremely efficient, professional, and patient while we decided what to eat. Even though she was wearing a face mask, you could see her face smiling the entire time. The food was amazing, but katie made the whole experience so enjoyable. You are a credit to the restaurant.

We always celebrate my birthday here, this year we had to cancel and rebook another date. We went tonight (Sun30thJan) and it was as good as ever, lovely atmosphere, great staff, gorgeous food. Will be celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary there in May. We were served by Katie, she was very attentive and pleasant.

We havnt been to pesto for a while but decided to return today as we fancied something different. We were greeted by a very friendly young lady who introduced herself as Abbey, she asked before seating us if we had any allergies etc which we thought was great and very reassuring as one of my friends has a gluten intolerance which worries her when it comes to eating out. Abbey explained the gluten free menu thoroughly and made recommendations for us which my friend said were delicious. We were well looked after from start to finish and the food was the best we've ever had from here. We will definitely be returning more regularly.

Mari-Grace… absolutely amazing service. Top notch night. Food was amazing (I’d recommend the cheese and garlic potatoes or the prawns).

Visited with the family at the weekend for my brothers birthday for the first time and we absolutely loved it! Food was delicious and plenty to choose from, we are a picky family when it comes to food so the variety of choices was perfect for us. There was a great atmosphere in the restaurant, busy but certainly didn't effect our evening.Our server who introduced herself as Shana gave amazing service and was very friendly making my brothers birthday extra special. Will certainly be visiting again

We decided to give pesto a go having never been before.Lovely environment, staff all very pleasant. I think Ange was the name of the lady who looked after us - dark hair with a european accent. The food was stunning! The tough part was deciding what to order as there is soooo much choice.We will be back soon :)

I very recently booked to go to Pesto with friends after reading the great reviews. The food was actually really nice and came out promptly, however there were flies in the resteraunt which buzzed around us the whole time we were eating. I was only half way through my food and when the flies kept landing on mine and my boyfriends food, so we had to just stop eating it which was a massive shame.

Too many kids especially badly behaved ones screaming and running around also table under music speaker and music blasting hardly. Hardly a nice chilled and relaxing atmosphere. Food mediocre. Don't go unless you want a headache.

Nothing has changed the food and service are as good as ever.The staff may have changed but the waiters are as good as previously and the food is enjoyable and always hot and appetising

Had a very pleasant lunch with family whom we hadn’t seen for some years. The food, lots of little plates, was very good and the portions were generous. The staff were friendly and helpful. Lots of vegetarian choices + meat options.

Friendly service but painfully slow.Disappointingly bland pasta dish- the creamy wine sauce was like single cream had been poured on lukewarm pasta. The rest was just OK. Don't think I'll return for food. Wine list looked nice though.

Been visiting Pesto Appley Bridge for a fair few years now and usually it's a 4 or 5 out of 5, so I hope this evening's visit as a party of six was an off night in the kitchen. The front of house staff were, as usual, very pleasant and attentive, and as expected, very busy, because in the area we were sat, every chair was occupied. We waited a while for our drinks and a fair while for our food but to be expected because there were 18 tapas dishes ordered. Unfortunately 8 of these were way below the usual standard, varying between cold, chewy or without sauce. I think we've paid the price for the restaurant being very busy and perhaps not enough staff to service demand. The desserts were tasty but like others trying to recoup losses incurred during the pandemic, they were smaller and more expensive than we're used to.We're going to stick to midweek nights in future, as on those visits we've always had a good dining experience.

I visited here last week for lunch with a friend. It was my first visit, and won't be my last! My only problem was deciding which of the many tempting dishes on the menu to choose! My friend and I chose from the £11.99 menu. We finally opted for: Bruschetta Funghi (one of my favourites), Pollo Alla Pizzaiola, Calamari Friitti ( my friend's favourite), Ragu Di Agnello con Papardelle, Patate Di Parmigiano (my other favourite) and Pizzette Ai Quattro Formaggio. Our waiter encouraged us to order a portion of garlic bread ( we didn't need much persuasion!). Every dish was very tasty and the portions were generous. The service was slightly slow, but as we were not in a hurry this did not matter.We also had desserts ( although we barely had room). I had Panna Cotta, and my friend chose Torta Al Limone. We were not disappointed. I enjoyed the experience so much, that I have already booked my next visit with a different friend!

Absolutely fabulous Covid safe setting, Emily our waitress was brilliant, she explained the menu and had obviously tried the dishes and was spot on with her advice. All the food was delicious with a lovely blend of flavours, so looking forward to returning in the near future

This was our first visit to Pesto. I had spaghetti bolognese which needed more tomato in, I'd also ordered chicken fillets in a tomato sauce which was good, there were some sauce left so I added it to my spaghetti bolognese which added to the taste. I also had garlic potatoes which was nice. I was a little bit disappointed with my dessert it was apple and Pear crumble with vanilla ice cream, the scoop of ice cream was on the small side and the amerretto biscuit as the crumble ruined it really. The service was slow and we didn't find the waiting staff attentive. The food though was Bob on and we enjoyed it.

Came here for my sons 18th. Food arrived quickly and was delicious. Lots to chose from and they even made a plain pesto dish for a fussy eater. I especially love the prawn bruschetta. A great experience every time.

Table booked for 7:30 for 2 people. Service was fine drinks order taken then ordered food, olives came quick and were nice enough. We ordered 8 dishes as we were hungry, all 8 dishes came at once in less than 10 mins which we thought was very quick. One dish was prawn and queen scallops in a cheese sauce, we thought the scallops were slices of spring onion they were that small. The fiery beef stew wasn’t fiery and the beef was dry (was later told it had been slow cooked for 18 hours, definitely shouldn’t be dry then). The Bolognese pasta was very watery. All in all we were in and out in an hour for 8 dishes, couldn’t get a takeaway pizza that quick. Did speak to the manager who gave 25% off the bill, but even still I wouldn’t go back. Can’t fault the waiter and serving staff though, maybe the chef should slow down and take a bit more care than rushing.

Enjoyable experience. Nice lady showed us to a quiet table and even opened a window for us and also a lovely waitress gave us our meals.food gorgeous well recommended

Went here for a family meal, been a few times but the food is always delicious. I especially love the garlic mushroom bruchetta. We were served by Ange who was lovely and we all felt very safe.

First time visit here and will definitely be back, enjoyed the fact that the portions are smaller so it gives you the opportunity to try more dishes, excellent quality food, lovely staff and a relaxed atmosphere... the tiramisu was amazing!

Been meaning to post this for a while but keep forgetting. I went in last month just for a quick bite to eat really and the service from my server Shanna was amazing she really does credit to the restaurant. The food was amazing. Treated myself to a cocktail and it was really good and not badly priced either. Not been in for a very long time but will make it more of a habit again now after this visit.

My wife and I used to go to the Dicconson arms quite a bit before it closed but it closed down and Covid arrived, We decided to visit for lunch last week and what a great experience. The Waitress, Emily, was delightful and the food was superb, very good sized portions as well. Sally and I will definitely be going back again very soon.

Pesto always provide great food, the service is sometimes not as good as other times. It was great to be able to eat with my daughter & her husband. Pity one of the ordered dishes was missed, but it did not spoil the evening.

Had a table booked for BH Monday under the belief that this restaurant can cater for customers outside under cover whilst we are still experiencing covid restrictions.Turned up, nothing set up outside, clearly they can't cater for any remotely less than perfect conditions. When we enquired what was going on they said nothing, no explanation why they didn't call us prior to our arrival, no apology nothing. Absolutely fire customer service from staff who simply don't care.

Came here for my mums birthday meal as a family of 5 and a baby & it was perfect. The staff were super nice and helpful & it felt very covid safe. The food was 10/10 and I recommend the chicken wings!

Just called in for Bruschetta Gamberoni - definitely the best outside of Italy!!!! Coffee was excellent - better with Sambucca. Last time time they had no Sambucca but Eddie, the manager, promised he would re-order - he kept his promise. Service by Becky was also excellent.

Ive missed out for years,first visit on a couple of recommendations,absolutely fantastic,food,service,all unbelievable,great idea of smaller dishes because i get bored with just one big bowl of italian,think of it as italian tapas,I will be back very soon

We came to pesto last night for a lovely meal. We've not been for a while but the standards have remained high. Our server was polite and attentive and the food was hot and delicious. The manageress with the pink hair (didn't catch her name) made us some delicious cocktails, we couldn't just stop at one. The whole place is covid secure and we were informed that they even do takeaway now. AmazingWe will 100% be returning.

I have driven past this restaurant numerous times and always wanted to try it.We booked and visited last night and it was superb!We were greeted by a lovely lady who explained our table wasn’t quite ready but seated us in the bar area and someone took our drinks order straight away.Harry was our waiter in the restaurant...he was lovely.....as was all the food.Great value £58 including drinks for two of us.Really enjoyed it, excellent food and service, all the staff were excellent and will definitely return very soon.Thank you

Fantastic Lunch!!! We where greeted by a young man called Harry he explained the menus to us really well we went for the lunch menu 3 tapas for £11.99 excellent value for money all dishes where delicious service was excellent we will most definitely return again soon.

We went here for a family meal and were treated really well, such a lovely atmosphere and the staff went above and beyond to ensure are needs were met, the food was delicious and very generous in portion size and the variation of dishes for both myself and the children was impressive. I will definitely be a regular here, thanks pesto. It was an absolute pleasure!

Love the concept especially the variety of dishes on the menu, makes it a no brainer for us and our fussy kids! The staff are very personable and attentive which always makes our evening – the kids especially love the manager Eddie (who has a rather unique rendition of “Happy Birthday” we found out which would bring a tear even to Luciano Pavarotti). One of our favourite places to eat and always our go to venue for special family occasions!

The staff are fantastic. They go the extra mile to put everyone at ease and everything I go in i never have a problem. The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and help me choose something when I cant decide.The food itself is always fantastic and its great value for money. One of my favourite places to go and eat or just for a drink since the atmosphere is so great which is mainly sue to the staff being so friendly. Eddie especially never makes me feel unwelcome even when I come in on my own. Its a must visit

After months of not going out to eat which is normally some what of a hobby of mine! Me and a few freinds plucked up the courage ...... all be it last minute, to go for a drive and find a place to eat. We stumbled on on this place by accident to be honest so I didn't expect much, Anyway.....The first thing I noticed was the staff wearing masks which I must admit put me at ease from the off, I was still nervous about the idea.The staff where really helpful as we hadn't been before and talked us through the menu. We were served by Hari who was really knowledge able about the menu and options (one of our party had dietary issues). She recommended the Chicken and Penne and it was lush! Long story longer I will definitely be returning...... thank you !

Excellent meal...thoroughly enjoyed by all. Good service and all dishes were very tasty...the cod and salmon farfalle were favourites of us all. Desserts were great...especially the crumble!

It's basically a converted pub, serving Italian ’style food’ in small portions, I suspect pre-prepared and microwaved. Authentic it's not, pub chain Italian yes. It's not my type, but then I expect the best - in a fussy bugger.

Came here last night first time for me, absolutely superb! The service from when we were first seated by the extremely polite gentleman and from the all serving girls you cannot fault the staff they are fantastic! The food was to die for, cannot recommended it enough and an excellent choice of ales and ciders. Only fault is I didn't have room for a pudding!!! Quite sure we will become regular visitors now, thank you Pesto!!! :-)

Made a booking to find when we arrived there was no booking, sorted with a table which rectified the issue, food arrives very quick, service is good, staff polite, great place for social distancing

I came here with my husband and daughter for a spontaneous visit. Although, we went during COVID we didn’t receive any less of an excellent service. The waitress Abi was more than welcoming, friendly, chatty and very professional. We will definitely be revisiting. 😀

Booked a table for a family birthday meal.I've been with friends before but this was the first time taking the kids. Safe to safe that everyone enjoyed it and no-one was disappointed.Food was delicious (as always) and even the kids were impressed. Lovely, attentive staff. Nothing was too much trouble.PPE worn by staff and all covid measures seemed to be being observed.Would highly recommend the place and we will definitely be back soon.

Lunch special £9.99 or £11.99 for 3 plates is great. Many choices and 3 plates is plenty and nice variety. Appreciate staff face coverings and social distancing efforts. Felt safe.

First time we’ve been out since lockdown so was a bit weary. However from entering to leaving we felt very safe. The food was beautiful and our waitress Abbie was amazing and very attentive. We’ll definitely be returning in the future!

Just called in for a buschetta gamberoni and a coffee. The bruschetta was excellent and the service by Abi could not be faulted. The only fault was they had no amaretto or sambuca to go with my coffee, but assured me that they were reblendishing their stock. I will be back.

After several visits with friends and a birthday lunch, I want to say how consistently excellent this eatery is. From the friendly welcome from Eddie to the lovely bar and waiting on staff, to the extensive menu and superbly presented dishes, it all leaves you wanting to return to try yet more choices.
