If you ever find yourself at Perrywood Garden Centre and think, “Oh, I’ll just pop into the café for a quick bite”—brace yourself. It’s less ‘pop’ and more ‘prepare for takeoff’ with the long queues that greet you. The setup is rather canteen-like: drinks and hot food on one side, then another queue for cakes. Yes, it’s a two-stop journey before you even find your seat! You’ll need some first-class queuing patience for this one. Now, onto the food: it’s fine, but for the prices, you’d hope for something a little more gourmet. £70 for three people is steep for what we had—three soft drinks, two salads, a panini with chips, and three slices of cake. And while the cakes are fairly priced, they’re not exactly flying high in the flavour department. But hey, they weren’t bad enough to ground our experience completely. What’s saving grace here is the garden centre itself, which is, quite frankly, excellent. It’s like a glorious first-class cabin of plants, so I get why people flock to the café. If it wasn’t attached to such an amazing destination, though, I’m not sure the café alone would have the same pull. Still, I’d go again—because, let’s face it, the plants are worth the visit, and if you’re already there, might as well refuel. In summary: not bad, but not quite the high-flying experience one might hope for. Keep your expectations grounded, and you’ll be just fine!

Visited today & decided to share a gluten free afternoon tea with my partner. It was lovely to be able to walk in & have a gluten free option without having to book days in advance. The food was delicious as always & the staff are so nice & friendly. We also had a look around the Xmas displays & it was amazing with themed areas all in all we think it's the best garden centre we have visited & have been to lots in England, Wales & Scotland. We'll be back soon.

The garden centre seems well stocked and the staff are polite and helpful. We haven't visited for about 5 years and found the restaurant disappointing! There are fewer choices now and the prices are much higher! The breakfast stops at 11.30am and lunch starts at 12 noon. Not sure what happens at 11.40! I can't comment on the food since after seeing that " Fish and chips " was £17 and drinks extra, we decided to eat elsewhere!

I ordered Caesar Salad having enjoyed the meal some time ago. I have to say my experience this time was disappointing. Three small cold cubes of bread for croutons, cold chicken, really thin strips of cold bacon, no potatoes, cucumber or sun dried tomatoes. I appreciate it is a salad but previously, the meal was a combination of hot and cold food. Looks like things are changing there so we may have to rethink visiting the restaurant again.

Afternoon tea on Bloom card offer for two. Arrived early but seated without any delay and served quickly. Felt that selection of sandwiches was good but lacking in quantity, only 3 small finger sandwiches each. Scone was tasty but fell to pieces when cut so impossible to spread with cream and jam. Had we paid full price would have been quite disappointed

My wife and I used to use Perry Wood fairly regularly, as being fairly new to the area and everything seemed reasonable. However, our last visit did not go well and we did not feel "welcome" but some of the team. The cakes / scones were not of the standard we would expect for the prices charged, We have also learned recently, that our daughter and her friends, all mothers, have also experience an "unwelcoming" atmosphere even though they are all responsible moms. We have now found lots of other good places and have been visiting those of late.

Not a good experience . Queued for the cafe in the greenhouse and my wife wanted to sit down so went to look for a table . The serving staff , who were pretty slow anyway , stopped serving to follow my wife into the cafe area to insist that she re-joined the queue . Very strange way to treat customers - no discussion about why or even if my wife needed to sit down for some reason, just a rude instruction to get back in the queue . . We decided it best to find somewhere more friendly and went to Tiptree Jam factory for a much better welcome .

Often visit this garden centre, my parents enjoy the drive and dad loves the restaurant. About a 40 minute drive from Ipswich down the A12 Huge garden centre with indoor and outdoor selection of plants etc for all seasons. Always well displayed and staff are friendly and knowledgeable. One large restaurant in the main building and a smaller cafe in the huge greenhouse area. Prices comparable with most garden centres. Food always freshly prepared and hot. Only assistance dogs are allowed in this garden centre so don't plan on entering with a pet dog. A must see recommendation

Perrywoods itself is a wonderful place to peruse- lots of beautiful plants and pressies. We thought we would stay for lunch and both ordered the roqst beef dinner. We were told no yorkshires but thought they are busy, so never mind. When it came, it was very obviously food made earlier, reheated in a microwave and covered in gravy. The gravy was nice but was really the only thing on the plate that had any flavour unfortunately. The meat was tough and there was half a carrot which was hard and not cooked properly and the veg was a mixture of 2 peas, pale cabbage, one runner bean and lots of cauliflower. If it seems this is a harsh review it is because Perrywood is such a beautiful place to while away a good hour or two and we would have expected a decent roast dinner for £15.99!

Perrywood is an excellent (award winning) garden centre, and in the past we have always found the coffee shop/restaurant to be as good. Our recent lunch was average, just that really. Prices have gone up considerably (although I appreciate they have the same cost pressure as everyone else), and the food quantities have reduced. For example the welsh rarebit was always loaded with cheese, now it's thinly spread, the ham sandwich now contains only a single piece of ham and so on. Very friendly, helpful staff as always.

Very well organised and clean restaurant. Bit pricey which is a shame because it’s always full so making good cash. I had a jacket spud with coronation chickpea. Wife had coronation chickpea sandwich. As you can see by what we had to eat the Vegan options are bad. It’s basically coronation chickpea in different forms. Not good enough is it? That said the coronation chickpea was lovely. Come on Perrywood more Vegan options. I can’t have chickpeas every time I come. Try some meat substitutes maybe or Vegan cheese.

Decided to try their Sunday roast as they really push this on social media so was expecting something special and the price at £14-99 is the same as any essex pub or restaurant so was expecting good quality. Two tiny slices of over cooked, a little tough roast beef, and the roast potatos were awful. A soggy mess and didn't taste fresh at all. The vegetables are adequate and a variety and the Yorkshire is huge but not worth the money and the overall quality is poor, especially the meat. I love the garden centre and have had other food here but would not recommend the Sunday roast.

This review is about the cafe. Lovely food if you can get it. The queuing and ordering system is ridiculous. You going a queue to place your order, a staff member writes it down and then you are made to stand in another queue to place the order at the till with the piece of paper given at the first checkpoint . After 40 minutes of second queuing we gave up and just went to the coffee bar. Shame as the food looked nice but couldn’t cope with the school dinner queuing system. Might be an idea to get a second till on the go !!!!

Love Perrywoods as a garden centre so thought we’d stay for their roast lunch in the restaurant. Not a good idea! The food arrived promptly enough but had to search for the 2 tiny slices of beef. Hardly any gravy and it was underneath everything so the Yorkshire was dry. Roast potatoes weren’t great; sprouts overcooked; a mound of chopped up root veg (pieces too small to identify exactly what they were), and another mound of red cabbage. The little pot of horseradish was a good addition but overall just about the worst roast dinner I’ve ever had, and will never go there to eat again. (Hubby had the turkey and gammon roast and was similarly unimpressed - said turkey was dry and sprouts awful).

My Husband and I visited on 17/10/20. We had a booking for 13:00 for both our birthdays at the end of the week.At 13:10 we still hadn't been seated. This concerned us due to there being set table times. We had planned to make "an afternoon" of it with mains, a little drink and desserts but now time was even shorter than what we'd planned for.We were eventually seated (no apology for the wait) and the C19 procedure was explained. We had previously chosen what we wanted due to there being limited time for the table. We were able to place our order after about 10 minutes of waiting. It was nearly 13:30 by this point and were concerned due to the table being given back for 14:15.I ordered the asparagus and bacon quiche, cheesy chips and garlic bread. My Husband; cod and chips. After 20 minutes they arrived. Both meals were presented well and looked delicious.Unfortunately, 3 mouthfuls in, I had the nasty surprise of a BEETLE in my quiche! My Husband called a young girl over who, after being shown said "Oh OK; I'll have it replaced" . . . Completely blasé to the whole matter. After yet another 15 minutes my lunch was brought back with a "Sorry 'bout that".My Husbands fish and chips by all accounts was very nice.I ate what I could of my lunch. Unfortunately, my cheesey chips had gone cold and soggy from the extra waiting; so apart from eating about 4 or 5, they were completely wasted and no replacement was offered. As anyone would be, I was a little apprehensive throughout; looking for and waiting to find another beetle in my food, so it wasn't enjoyed. After, my Husband ordered a scone and I the walnut and coffee cake to fill the gap that had been left from my not being able to eat my lunch. Both of which were very nice but unfortunately I couldn't find my appetite after the beetle saga. The restaurant wasn't overly busy compared to "normal" Saturdays but it looked and felt very unorganised. In our area there were approximately 10-12 tables but only 2-3 tables were clear of used plates etc at any one time, even with people sitting at them. There were 2-3 different waitresses serving the same tables and although very polite and doing their best appeared like ducks out of water. We had 3 different people serving us and at one point two lots of desserts were brought to because one of the other waitresses had already brought them.It felt completely chaotic.Over-all, our visit on this occasion was most disappointing. On what should have been a lovely birthday treat for myself and my Husband turned out to be an absolute flop and with a nearly £55.00 price tag it just added insult to injury.Great shame as Perrywoods used to be a lovely place to have that special lunch. We have also noticed that anyone that leaves a "good" review gets acknowledged. The bad ones don't get any recognition. This says a lot about an establishment

set off early so we could have one of their loverly breakfasts. our visit was to buy a compost bin.after breakfast we went to find a compost bin, asked a menber of staff where are the compost bins, only to be told "We do not not sell them."considering perrywoods are the 3rd best garden centre in Britain we were very surprised at the reply.a garden centre that does not stock compost bins?any keen gardner has a compost bin.

Its nice to find a restaurant/teashop within a garden centre that is inviting. Perrywood has just that. Friendly, smiling (unusual these days) staff that seem happy in their work. A good selection of main meals and snacks. Afternoon tea is something to pop in for. Lovely selection of sandwiches, scones, cakes etc etc. Also, a big thing, its extremely clean. Its worth coming off the main road to look out for this centre.

We regularly visit this lovely nursery as they have plants outside for garden, then domes to go in holding bedding plants, baskets etc. The outside has sections with garden ideas from fountains to ornaments to pots. Then inside it sells tools and pet products, candles, cards, soap, gifts, book. Toys it’s all laid out in sections. They do a gift wrap service too. The best bit is the restaurant the food is lovely. Their scones and cake are to die for. It’s so popular that at peak times it’s extremely busy. Love the place and easy to find.

Just a quick visit so a couple of cheese scones. Very tasty. Had we had more time it was obvious there was plenty of choice on the menu and not surprisingly a long queue. Thankfully you could get the scones from a different counter which is a good idea.

We visited Perrywood for a birthday cake and cuppa to celebrate my daughter’s friend’s birthday. The selection of cake and drinks was really wide (from Granola Sundaes to chocolate cake to raspberry and lemon cakes). As usual the cafe staff are kind and friendly. The cafe is always clean and efficiently run. We love going there. The only thing I’d say could be changed is the portion sizes of cakes. They’re massive and could easily be reduced a bit and you'd still feel full!

Returned to Perrywoods after not having been for a while. Delighted with the improvements made to the restaurant area. We all had very nice panninis with chips and garnish. Nice looking desserts (cakes etc) section separate from main course servery for those just wanting tea and cake which we will try on another occasion. Have baby seats and limited numbers of reading books for small children. Not at all crowded at 2pm, with the delights of the huge garden shop to enjoy afterwards.

First let me say that I can't fault the food (cheese scone) and coffee that I had - the scone was large and delicious. Service was a bit slow and it wasn't even at its busiest in there; the people ahead of me were served their dessert with ice cream long before their hot drinks were added to the tray; so much so that the ice cream had started to melt. HOWEVER my main grumble is with the prices - they wanted nearly £6 for a slice of dessert...! To me, that's the price you pay at a restaurant with table service, not at a garden centre where you queue for your own food. I was surprised at how expensive some of their food is.

A passing visit for just a brunch snack, this is a good example of how to get it right. Cheerful staff, modest prices, and our snack was prompt, well done, hard to fault. We'll come back to check it out properly!

Called in for a coffee whilst shopping in the garden centre. You can leave your plants etc in the trolley (before checkout) outside the cafe. Good range of cakes, note those in the first display are a lot pricier than those further along ! Good selection of coffees and plenty of seating. Staff cleared and cleaned tables frequently whilst we were there. Overall appears well run and maintained.

Called in for lunch midweek. The restaurant is large, with plenty of seating, much of it in a glazed conservatory, which is where we sat. We both chose the quiche with jacket potato and coleslaw. The quiche was warm and very tasty, and the sides were fine. A very nice cafe in a lovely garden centre.

Good little place to eat before or after a nice stroll through the green houses and little shops. Got the Linda McCarthy sausage with onion chutney on a baguette with a salad and americano. Everything was pretty tasty. It would be nice if the sandwich also had some greens on it but not a deal breaker. The decor and environment was pretty relaxing to. Very casual but comfortable. They also have a separate vegan menu which is always really lovely so be sure to ask for it.

We booked and had the Christmas afternoon tea at the cafe. We thought the afternoon tea was nice but overall was quite expensive at £18.99 per person. The scones were warm which was really nice and the sandwiches tasted fresh so again that was nice.

Its a given that you get tasty fresh food at Perrywood's. It was very busy when we visited today but was surprised me was the efficient way the quest were managed. The staff ensured that no one left the serving counter without a table being vacant. So even the ought the queue was long everything worked smoothly and our food was delivered promptly.

I have been visiting Perrywoods for over 20years. I bought residents of a residential home today with work which I have done before. But today I was disappointed in the fact that when I went to the tills with not me just spending money but my residents too. I had a grumpy woman serve me who didn’t even say hello! She was impatient with my resident trying to find her money and whipped my things through the till before I had the chance to say I wanted to pay by card for one item as cash the other. She then did not even offer a bag at 5p which elderly do not know about paying for bags! She then did not offer to wrap my candle which has done so before when I have bought one in the past! Not only that I get on the bus when a resident with full capacity says to me that the woman at her till did not even wipe the surface full of compost and water when she was buying a £40 waistcoat ! And said that’s clothing and the assistant said I can see! How rude she was! She too was not offered a bag even though she had bought clothing ! Perrywoods I understand this is a busy time of the year for you but please when I had friendly staff in the cafe where I spent £50 ! On coffee /tea and cakes, please do not let yourself down by having unfriendly staff at the tills ! I look forward to a response and I am returning myself in a few weeks to see if staff are still grumpy! I work with the elderly 6 hours a day 5 days a week and I cannot be grumpy with them !

I have been going to Perrywoods for many years, I love it, beautiful plants and gifts etc to buy. I always have a spot of lunch there as there is usually something scrummy to eat. Sadly over the past year I have noticed, not so much the hot food or sandwiches, but the cakes, scones and the like seem to be slightly old and hard, this week I had bread pudding which I love and my friend had scone and jam they were both so hard they were inedible, we now only eat cake if there is a full one on the counter, although there were loads of scones, but it must have been a day old at least. So sad because everything else there is very good. We don't queue up for hot food because there is such a large line of people and I can't stand for very long (old age), perhaps you could re-think your procedure regarding old food. Hope you can get it sorted out.

Bought my mum daughter n best mate for Sunday lunch, very accommodating as I'd left it last minute.com and they called me when my table came free. Blooming lovely roast lamb, decent portion size a good amount of meat and crunchy veg just how I like it. And reasonably priced we only went into the £30 a head bracket cos we drank a bottle of wine and had pudding!! Lol Pretty much catered for exactly what my 10 year old wanted, as she isn't a roast lover. Friendly waitresses a little bit of banter with one girl which is very me as it makes the experience more personal. Definitely rate the Sunday roast which is so hard to find a decent proper home cooked vibe. Would like to try this pub on à drinking night lol see what the atmosphere is compared to to the formality of Sunday lunchtime 🤣

After a bit of shopping we were looking for somewhere for lunch and came across Poppy's. Very quaint little tea room set out very nice with 50s music playing in the background with lots of old 50s posters and pictures on the walls. We ordered coffees, my with having black and me a caramel latte which was extremely nice. We both ordered sandwiches,my wife having tuna mayo with red onion and me having a club sandwich of chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo. The sandwich was then lightly toasted. They were both very well presented and were very tasty. Would highly recommend this lovely little tea room!!

Another let down …. I’ve always had great food from here but the problem I have had in my last 2 attempts at getting food is crazy …. First a few weeks ago I queued up for 20 mins then when I got to the counter and asked for just 1 cheese sandwich was told 40 mins wait !!!! So I didn’t bother …. Now today after spending 6 hours decorating a beach hut I decided at midday to go and order some food… brilliant no queue only to be told that the cook / chef was going out for 15/20 mins !!!!! Turning around to see him put his coat on and leave … at lunch time REALLY .. we have sent literally dozens of customers your way from our beach hut rentals and all of them have said what a great little cafe we have left your menus in our huts for the customers to look at ect .. unfortunately we have again been let down and found myself driving to Tesco to get lunch …. To save us from any negative feedback we are removing the menus from the huts in case something similar happens to our customers…
