Called in for some lunch after liking the look of the Perch Cafe, there was only one other group (3 people) in alongside us. We ordered some drinks, and the chef's special (which was a panini) and a baguette. It took a while for the drinks to come, but then the real wait began. We waited around 35 mins before asking the waiting staff how long our sandwiches would be - we were told the chef was on with it, that "the chef's special takes a bit longer" and that he "is a perfectionist"... Another 10 mins went by and finally we were served our lunch - and an apology from the chef explaining "he had to warm the baguette up". I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a cheese and pesto panini and a cheese and chutney baguette to take less than 45 mins, and the reasons given didn't really sit well. I'd understand if they were busy, but we represented 2/5 of the clientele! We dared not ask for another drink or cake for fear of how long it would be. Menu is very limited - and an odd mix of brunch ideas and a couple of baguette options. Food was of standard quality, nothing special. Would not recommend

We popped in for lunch after hiking nearby. Firstly, the interior is really nice and they have a cute space in the corner for children. The drinks menu was good with specialty teas and coffees, as well as milkshakes. Unfortunately the food let it down. The menu is quite strange as it seems 'brunchy' but also had slightly incongruous options like 'mac and cheese'. My partner had this and it was very average with not much flavour and very overcooked pasta. It was also supposed to come with crusty bread but instead he was given plain nachos. I had the special, which was a panini (again, seemed odd that a panini would be a special). It was okay but the salad had no dressing and the crisps were the same plain nacho chips. The staff were friendly but didn't know the menu - e.g. when asked about the soup, they replied it was lentil but didn't know what style - e.g. spicy, tomato, veg...

We popped in here for a coffee after settling in on our camp site up the road. It was great to find somewhere dog friendly and that we could sit inside with plenty of space for our two dogs. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The prices surprised us, the pot of tea is exceptional value. The smiling staff, the great value and the space have made this a regular stop at the beginning or end of our walks.

Very friendly and helpful staff, took plenty of time to explain about all the beers and were offered tasters of any beers we were interested in drinking, there was a great beer selection. Building was clean and tidy, music was excellent. Menus were well displayed.although we didn’t eat the food coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled great.

Great to see this traditional village pub come back to life. Quiz in the bar last night which looked like great fun, often has live music, lovely food at really reasonable prices. Will be going back again.

TLDR: the food wasn't bad, but it certainly didn't live up to the price tag and too many things were predominantly sweet. Stopped in for dinner while on vacation after browsing a couple other nearby spots for food. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either and really didn't live up to the price tag. The haggis bon-bons as a starter were just okay. Not much flavor to them and a pinch of salt would've gone a long way. The menu looked great, and my lady opted to make a meal of a couple appetizers (the shrimp cocktail and the scotch egg), while I ordered the pan-seared duck breast. The shrimp cocktail was not what we expected. The shrimp were the super tiny variety common to freezer bags, not plump and fresh. Honestly it all just tasted like mayonnaise. The scotch egg was another under seasoned item and it was served with a chili sauce that was pretty sweet. If you're familiar with the Panda Express in the US (Chinese fast food), it tasted just like their sauce. It just didn't quite pair well and ate overly sweet. The duck breast, sadly was just not great, primarily due to the cook on the duck itself. It was weird - the skin side needed more time in the pan as the fat has just a wee bit more rendering needed - but the meat of the breast was overcooked. I typically don't mind if my duck is medium, but this was verging on well-done. But it was really the sauce that turned me off, as again it ate really sweet. I understand it was an orange sauce and a little sweetness is fine, but this tasted and had a mouthfeel more like orange syrup than a well-reduced jus with orange, as there was virtually no citrusy aspect that one might find in say a duck a l'orange. I will say that the service staff was very friendly and attentive, and we didn't have to wait long for drinks at any point and the food arrived in good time. But, as with the theme of the meal, my lady ordered a Glenlivet old fashioned - which neither of us were expecting to be sweet, but it very much so ended up almost too sweet to drink. I don't mean to nitpick and we certainly do love our sweets - but not when they're misplaced. So sadly this missed the mark for us, but I'm hoping that we just were in on an off-night. Again, not bad, and I'd still say to pop in - but just wanted to make this review in case it's helpful to anyone.
