Life changing Chinese food. I am a legit/authentic Chinese food afficiando and this is the best Chinese I've had anywhere. Also cheap somehow. Got Singapore noodles (Mei fun), diet Coke, crispy squid and char siu bao. Wow. sort of amazed they sell dim sum at normal dinner time. Too bad I was traveling to and from Wales and have no reason to come back here normally. Total bill was 21 GBP. The chilli oil was also amazing.

Had a lovely meal at Peony restaurant in Newcastle-under-Lyme recently, where the dim sum truly impressed me. The quality was so good, it reminded me of the authentic flavours you'd find in London's Chinatown. However, there was a bit of a letdown when it came to paying. Despite signs suggesting card payments were accepted, we were informed at the end that it was cash only. It's a bit of a hiccup that might hold me back from returning soon. I'm all for giving credit where it's due, and the food here is fantastic, but I'm hopeful they'll sort out the payment issue quickly. Once that's done, I'll be more than happy to come back for more of their delicious dim sum!

Very poor coke was flat came from a bottle warm and disgusting had food all come out separately one dish come out then 25mins later the fish came out very very poor quality food beef was not beef tasted more like lamb got told it was 20pound a head but on windows stated 18 pound a head very poor I recommend u do not go to this restaurant

Authentic delicious Chinese food (tried their Sichuan cuisine and probably one of the best in the UK), very warm service and price is super reasonable comparing to Chinese restaurants in other places of the UK

Wow wow wow. Exquisite food and superb friendly service greeted us tonight when we made our first visit to The Peony. The staff helped us to chose from the extensive menu and we were pleasantly surprised at the excellent value for money too. Can't wait to go again. P.s. the best prawn toast in the world. You have to try it.

Peony serves the most authentic Chinese dishes and beautiful dim sum in Newcastle area. It’s frequented by lots of Chinese. Not a big restaurant, food is what we go for. Amazing quality of food, great menu, fantastic dim sum and the lady boss is just so friendly and amazing. Highly recommend. We always left the restaurant feeling happy, contented tummy and money worth. 👍

It's not like most Chinese restaurants in the West, which can make the choice difficult at first, but the people are very friendly and help beginners with this. The food is too good.

Don't be put off by the downstairs view. Once in the restaurant upstairs, you certainly won't be disappointed. The Peony was recommended to me by a guy from Hong Kong. The food is authentic and delicious, very generous portions and inexpensive. There were a few Chinese families eating when we arrived, which is always a good sign! Booking would be a good idea, it's not a huge place. Could eat there every night!! Enjoy!

It is proper Chinese restaurant in Newcastle under Lyme. 99.9% Asian people are coming there, Peony restaurant serves foods not like other Chinese restaurants. You should try to feel and taste the amazing food at Peony, ever penny you spent would be worth it. The owner and staff are very friendly.

Made a random stop before going to Liverpool but the food here was surprisingly very delicious!! The hot and sour fried fish was fresh and they were very accommodating when we order off-menu Asian style omelette. However, it was cash only so be prepared!

There are NO places in the Stoke area to get dim sum or hotpot and other authentic Chinese dishes..this place delivers on all those levels! It's amazing food - all home made too...ignore the slightly basic decor and get yourself down here - you wont regret it!

Food was amazing! They even changed one of the tofu dishes with a meat that I preferred! You get quite a lot for what you pay for. Lamb with cumin was amazing!

M W You say that they advertise card payments but they never do that and yes the card machines sometimes doesnt work and network there is bad. If you have actually gone to the restaurant then maybe you wont say that but it seems really like you have not have gone thers and is just waffling about stuff

We called ahead to check for available tables since I'm on crutches and didn't want to hobble there if it was full. The woman answered cheerfully and we were told to come. 15 minutes later we arrived, I struggled up the two flights of stairs, and the place was totally empty. No customers or employees, we called out, sat and waited 10 minutes, tried calling back the same line we'd just spoken to someone on and listened to it ring unanswered beside us. Eventually we left, hungry and confused.

I couldn’t believe how this remains a hidden gem. Unassuming shop front, in a quiet corner, off the beaten track. Those in the know have been coming for years. Dim sum, bbq roast meat, Cantonese and northern Chinese dishes. All at prices one would pay ten years ago. Unbelievable.

The food quality has noticeably declined, and the staff's handling of payments was questionable. Despite advertising card payment availability, they consistently claimed the card machine had errors and insisted on cash. Furthermore, when I paid in cash, the staff didn't provide proper change, giving the impression that they were trying to cheat customers out of their money. For a more enjoyable and reliable dining option, I recommend avoiding this establishment altogether.

Amazing food, authentic Chinese

A lovely Chinese restaurant with lovely friendly staff and clientele. Only bottles of larger to buy. No wine selection.

This is one of very few True Chinese food Restaurant outside of any major China town in big cities. Don't ask westernized food, they are real Chinese food.

No doubt ! The best and most authentic Chinese restaurant of the whole area. That’s a heaven for Chinese in UK . Only very rare Chinese restaurant in UK can reach the same level at this price per Chinese view and most of them in big city.

Small restaurant, but it is a true Chinese meal, not an English Chinese meal. Absolutely delicious.

I've been to China many times. This place is authentic....... it helps if you speak Chinese and appreciate the cooking of China, with all its ups and downs and served in plain decor. A great experience we all enjoyed, best Chinese food in Stoke, will return

Relatively similar Chinese dim sum

I love this place. They cook authentic China cuisines. Service was full mark and they were helpful to provide recommendations from their menu. All dishes are big portions and delicious. I would come back and try other dishes as the chief can really cook good food.

What a culinary experience! Truly authentic Chinese with a very wide and appealing menu. Don’t expect it to be fancy, but instead you will be treated to mouth-watering flavours with unexpected combinations. Definitely a hidden gem worth visiting.

We went to this restaurant because I found out that they have mapo tofu. This dish was really nice, and also the dumplings and the soup that we ordered.

The food is good and the price is reasonable

Got spicy shredded chicken with egg fried rice, to be fair was a class meal and a decent potion. However was dissapointed at having to pay £4 for a pint of coke and not being told it was cash only until out bills had been provided, so had to go the speed bank after my meal. But the quality of food was a really good standard

A restaurant serving relatively close taste to Hong Kong. My always go-to when wanting to eat dimsum. Always worth it for the experience, good value for price. One of the best in the area.

Fantastic authentic Sichuan Chinese food. Little gem in Newcastle. If you live spicy food this is your place. If you don't, then simply make sure you have the 'English' menu (None Sichuan Chinese)

The beef was of poor quality, very chewy, one of the dishes ordered came very oily. Everything is cooked to order ( which is great you know its fresh) but be prepared for meals to come in dribs and drabs, some of our party were eating before others. There is a lot of tradional chinese dishes to choose. Overall restaurant was OK probably wouldn't return.

This is a little gem of a place. Although I had limited numbers of dishes as I was dining alone, the Steamed Chicken dish I had was very well done and genuinely tasty. They claim their Dim Sum are made inhouse, and the Siew Loong Pau I ordered was good. With Tsing Tao beer and rice, my meal was very satisfying. Family owned and run, the service was good. The Soup was complimentary.

The food seem to look nice, chicken, duck, shrimps. But it lacked seasoning. Struggled to eat it after the first spoon. Generous servings, but needs a little bit more to make it Chinese. It was bland. Friendly staff, easy parking.

Having lived in Singapore for over 10 years and having a Malaysian wife, I'm used to eating good Chinese food. The food here was great. The only problem was the guy serving .He seemed bored and we were in his way. Slamming tea pots on the table, grumpy attitude and over no interest in his job. Fine, but go work somewhere else when we are paying £70+ of our well earned cash. He only seemed happy when we were leaving. My suggestion, get someone who will lift the guests and make it a great experience overall. I have lived in Singapore for over 10 years and have a Malaysian wife and I am used to eating delicious Chinese food. The food here is great. The only problem is the person serving. He seemed bored while we were on the road. Smashes the teapot on the table, has a bad temper, and shows no interest in his work. That's fine, but when we pay cash on earnings over £70, we can go work elsewhere. He seemed happy when we were leaving. My advice would be to find someone who can pull guests along and overall give you a great experience. If you are looking for a great Chinese restaurant, with a classy experience, then this is the place.The service from the friendly staff is brilliant and the food really is the best of it's kind in the local area! DONT MISS OUT!

Fantastic food that both me and husband love

Today is the first time, the food is very fresh, I hope it will continue to be so!

The restaurant is split into two sections. The bottom part of the restaurant does all you can eat BBQ / Hot Pot with very fresh and delicious ingredients, an amazing broth and a big selection of sauces. Really good idea to serve individual hotpot pots and allow BBQ at the same time. The top floor of the restaurant serves authentic Yum Cha / Dim Sum, with a chef from London preparing the dishes. They are all delightful and very well prepared. The Char Siu is not too sweet making it one of my favourites. They also provide a big variety of dishes from a menu, but I have not yet tried those. I believe that they will be very good as well judging by the rest of the food I've tried. Overall a very beautiful addition to the town with high quality food, authentic cuisine and a talented chef. A good reason to get up early Sunday morning for traditional yum cha. (They're served all day long but no Cheung Fung after 5pm)

Had my first take away from here over the weekend , I was very impressed with the food , staff were friendly n helpful , will definitely be back again
