Peony Garden in Midlothian

Not used this restaurant in a while, but happy to say it’s back to its best 👍

Ordered at 5pm said would be here at 6.10. called at 6.25 to be told they hadn't even stared cooking it! Asked them to cancel the order but was told they can't and I would need to do it on just eat. Messaged just eat and was told if I cancel now I would only receive 50% of my payment! Called peonie back at 6.40 to be told the driver was away and meal wasn't cooked yet! And would take another half hour! So nearly two hours from ordering still no food and no idea if we will receive anything or a full refund! Shocking service

Another delicious meal - food arrived earlier than expected and was hot and very tasty. Looking forward to the next one.

Food was hot and delicious. Its the best Chinese food I have had in a long time and will definitely be using again.

Food was great but was very late. Tried to call but couldn’t get through. Was like a dead line. Didn’t receive prawn crackers either. Which was disappointing.

Meal was supposed to be with us by 8.15pm however I had to chase after 9pm. Not great since I ordered just after 7pm and not even a courtesy call or an apology when the food was delivered. Children didn't end up eating this as it was too late.

Wouldn’t have fed that food to my dog. Delivery 30 mins late and didn’t even include the prawn crackers. Must have been a busy night and they took the phone off the hook so they couldn’t get a call Crispy shredded beef was just batter so must have run out of beef, must have run out of potatoes as the chips were just crisps, rice was like eating sand and it was a portion of curry sauce ordered not a shot.

Good arrived late, chips were awful and appeared to be double fried. Spring rolls were soggy and tasteless and no pineapple in the lemon chicken. Even the free prawn crackers were soggy and lacking crisp. Very disappointing!

Food was good quality but took two hours from placing an order for delivery. When contacting the restaurant were told that they had received no order from JustEat for our address, for the door to then go and the delivery guy to be there with the order. Honesty goes along way.

food arrived piping hot ,early, by a cheerful young gentleman,but i am not complaing as i was hungfy. food was freshly cooked and delicous and i would reccomend this establishment 100% Thank You everyone involved with this company

One thing missing off order two weeks in a row. Both things delivered separately after I called them.

We frequent peony and normally food is great. No issue. Tonight we got our "go to" beef chow mein. When it came it came absolutely saturated in garlic. Not sure if this was due to the oil used but it wasnt edible. Disappointed. Called the restaurant to explain this and was told "OK.... We will tell the chef...." wasn't looking for anything to be changed but would be nice for a gesture for next order or whatever. Won't be ordering again.

This food was over an hour late with no communication from the restaurant. And when requested no compensation was offered.

Good food, good portions. Love the ribs in this place, always very succulent.

Always great! Love this take away! Will order again next time. Just chips were not that great as usually... Everything else tasty!

Food was delicious. Would definitely order again. Had to add a can of Diet Coke which I didn't really need, to get the cost up to £8 so I could have it delivered.

Food has been amazing past few months, very impressed in particular the sweet & sour and thai red dishes.

Ordered a delivery at half past 10 for loanhead. Got accepted and said 10 past 11 which I thought was a bit strange anyway but it got accepted so you would think it would come? But it never came at all.

First time ever we’ve received and the food wasn’t hot was barely warm had to heat it all up - normally good x

Food wasn’t food, was reheated

I had the family over so we decided to order some Chinese food. I ordered a chicken noodle soup and a honey bbq chicken dish and it blew my mind! The chicken in the soup was so soft and tasty the soup stock was full of flavour and then the honey bbq chicken just melted in my mouth I was going to save some of the main dish for later but it was to good to leave alone and got devoured quickly. Highly recommend ordering again please try the honey bbq it’s my new fave dish.

Always good food. Never had a bad meal

Ordered 3 meals (for 3 people). one was missing. Called the restaurant and they wouldn’t deliver it as driving wasn’t coming back this way (8pm). No apology, told me to ask for the refund for that part of the meal on the app. Food itself was rather bland and cold, and missing someone’s food so very disappointed, wouldn’t order again

Everything was great, except the chicken Kung po and beef Kung ok were sweet, and not spicy

Food Arrived so late, chip portion was very small for the price and chips soggy.

Not only was delivery estimated to be 1 hour 20 mins it ended up being a further over hour late on top!! 20 to 10 at night and we still haven’t had our dinner! Normally my fave Chinese takeaway but won’t be ordering again.

Asked if they were busy and was told no and then said not to order from just eat as you will wait longer better to phone your order it will come sooner

Curry and rice were lovely but the chips were pretty shocking, definitely not fresh

Was a long time to come , but that's is the same with all takeaways at this moment .

Waited 2 & 1/2 hours for the worst Chinese meal I have ever had, supposed to be a chicken curry, it was just flavoured water with a few bits of chicken thrown in, wont be back

Lovely food. Hot and sour soup was a bit spicy but chicken curry and chicken chowmein We’re fab.

Food was not hot. Chicken curry basic, no mushroom etc. Chow mein just warm, again basic, no bits mushroom, just beans sprouts & some small green bean. Flavour basic. Curry sauce very bright in colour & easy stains.

Food was really lovely, delivery long and a little late but fully expected in current times however food worth the wait

Delivered exactly on time and very tasty. Chicken fried rice was flavoursome but a tad dry. Deep fried chilli wings and noodles were excellent

The shredded beef was grey gelatinous lumps in brown water. Went in the bin. The chow mein was salty and the chicken in it was tough as old boots.

Disgusting. Beef fillets were not cooked. Sauce was tasteless and congealed. Chips were undercooked.

This is definitely the best Chinese takeaway in Midlothian! Food is always hot, fresh and very tasty. Got chicken with chilli and garlic tonight and it was amazing, wouldn't go anywhere else.

Disappointed to say the least!! Portion dishes were only filled 3/4!! The delivery being late wasn’t an issue but the food being cold is, tried to call but no answer!! Oh and orders normally come with prawn crackers etc, thays obviously been stopped as well! Won’t be ordering again and won’t be recommending either. Pity, only good thing about it was the delivery driver being very pleasant

Asked for it to be delivered at 6.15 arrived at 6.15. piping hot and absolutely delicious. One of the best Chinese meals we've had in a long time.

Was 30 mins late food was good except the honey chilli shredded chicken the sauce it was in was like water which made the chicken so soggy and it didn’t taste like honey or chilli 😅 and the salt and chilli chips weren’t very good not hot enough and no flavour 👎🏼

The shredded beef in chilli sauce was terrible, no taste and sauce like water. The rest of the food was very good though, the chilli chips where amazing! Delivery took 2.5hours, which was over an hour longer than stated when I ordered.

Food was an hour late, delivery times should really be revised

Placed order at 18.05pm delivery slot of 18.55pm was noted, when order completed and paid for delivery time had changed to 19.25pm. We accepted that due to circumstances, however our food actually arrived at 20.25pm. So 2hr 25mins from orginal slot and an 1hr and 25mins from their delivery time. Food was ok, but we'd all gone passed the hunger point so wasnt as enjoyable.

Late but understandable given circumstances. Food awesome. They forgot noodles but everything else spot on.

Usually order from another take away in Loanhead but they are closed so decided to try Peony Garden. Delicious food, delivery was pretty much on time (10 minutes late but no issue) and will definitely order again

Called the restaurant at 6pm told it would be hear for 7:30. Called at 7:45 to be told it would be another 30 minutes, meaning 45 late from initial delivery time. Appreciate it’s busy and a lot going on currently but not acceptable and want a full refund

In fairness the food may have been delivered fine. However we waited over an hour. No complaints with time in current circumstances, but an update on timescale would be nice. Food was delicious

Absolutely not good was more rice than meat and not enough mixes in chips

Delivery was late, liked expected, at this time. But that’s no excuse for the food, special curry with mushrooms which I paid extra for but didn’t get was very bland , no flavour hardly any meat/chicken and a very thin watery sauce. Salt and chilli chips, no chilli just a couple of bits of onion and green peppers although the had salt. I had longed for this the last few weeks, but I think I’ll just skip takeaways for the future for a while. Ps delivery driver was very friendly and kept is distance. STAY SAFE ALL
