Penygroes Tandoori in Gwynedd

Food was really good and fresh. Seemed quite hygiene. It was good to find that kind of food in that area as we were travelling through.

We were looking for halal food and got from there. Staff was quite friendly, patiently waited for us to decide our order. When food arrived it was very fresh and prices were quite cheap too. Overall a lovely experience.

Large Doner Kebab, £6.95 literally for done meat on nan bread, complete rip off. No salad or anything. All you can do is add sauce onion for 35p. We ordered for a family of five, other meals were OK, but the Kebabs are not worth the money by any means.

Disappointed,as we have had good meals from here. The curries tasted as if they were made by someone following a recipes and then throwing more spices in.

It’s a great experience Amazing food and service. Chicken biriyani and whole lamb roast was so delicious. Staffs are also very friendly. A big thanks to all the staff for their kind and great service with a five star recommendation

Always good, tasty food. I usually have something hot and spicy, my other half something veggie. Either way it’s always of the freshest ingredients and very nice. If you’re not sure what you might like then ask for a recommendation, staff are very helpful & courteous.

Having been recommended this place at the cottage we were staying in, we picked up a takeaway and found it to be better than our home take-a-way. Plenty of choice, not too hot or mild and very clean kitchens. quick service too.

Went with the family last night. Had to wait a little as they were very busy. The kids were given lollipops and we were treated extremely well. The food was amazing and we were given poppadoms on the house. Overall an amazing experience.

Ordered for a family meal as we’re staying in a nearby village. It’s the best curry I’ve had in a long time. Big portion sizes and great quality mains and sides.

Staying at beach nearby so we ordered all kinds! Service wonderful! Even carried my food to car incase I dropped it! Food was 5 stars and plentiful and 1 of the Indian takeout I’ve had.very reasonable thanks and also thanks for our free drinks.we’ll be back excellent

I once lived near Rusholme in Manchester so I’ve got a strong criteria of what is a good curry. I have been going to this takeaway in pen y groes for approx 8 years. It was once very good, hence the reason for my repeated visits. However, last night, the rice was just about warm and appeared to be warmed up rather than freshly cooked. The two sauces were watery and contained only three pieces of vegetables. If you believe what is written on the website = you will believe anything. No problem with staff, who continue to be very friendly.

5 small chunks of chicken in a tub full of runny korma cold chips and cold rice..never again,waste of money,and also rude staff

Have been going to this place for take away curry since we moved into the area 6 months ago....this is the BEST curry you will get in Gwynedd BAR NONE!!!!....astonishing quality beautifully cooked and very good sized portions. The Chefs Specialities are really very good!The menu is comprehensive and does I believe represent good value for money.My wife and I have been steadily working our way through the menu and have been delighted with every selection.Super food well cooked nicely presented. Who can ask for more? Thanks chaps your curry is TOPS!

Ordered at the counte, all covid precautions sorted etc. Told it would be around half an hour. Returned to the takeaway twenty minutes later and waited outside. Then waited and waited with other walk ins getting food in approx the the time quoted originally to myself. Once space was available on the pavement outside I phoned the shop having waited for an hour to be told "food ready in five minutes" phoned again and asked for a refund. The shop should have no excuses as everyone else seemed to be coming and going at ease . Disappointing experience, coved does not apply as everyone was in the same boat.

Highly recommend this place to eat the food is so tasty and cook to perfection excellent service every week without fail. Brilliant customer service welsh and English speaking witch is very good thankyou very much.

As a local resident and a fairly regular visitor to this establishment I feel I need to write about my last couple of visits to this takeaway firstly I feel the quality and quantity of food is vastly inferior to what it used to be my last experience was a huge disappointment my chicken dhansak was bland and overly salty to such an extent that I was only barely edible my alloo Bombay was similar although the naan and onion Bhaji were excellent sadly for me this takeaway is way below the standard it used to be

Enjoyed my take-away from this restaurant. It was also great to be served by a Welsh speaking member of staff, which meant that I could order food in my first language. This is vitally important in the Welsh speaking heartlands.

Visit didn't start well, with the young lad on the counter refusing to speak English to members of our party as they tried to collect their food. It should be noted the young lad did speak in English to other members of staff before reverting back to Welsh for our party. This was deliberate rudeness, presumably for his own amusement? I would advise the owners to educate their staff on good customer service. I had hopes that the food would redeem the petulance of this member of staff but alas no.The chips were soggy as standard. The chicken in each of the curries was overcooked and incredibly dry. The garlic naans were very naany but not very garlicky. The Jalfrezi sauce was watery and thin though tasted quite nice.The taste of the Jalfrezi sauce was not enough however to ever tempt us back. Shame really, other reviews made it sound very tempting.

This Indian takeaway is very very good. Best I've ever had. The food is absolutely lovely and the staff are so very nice. I can highly recommend.

Really great food, an item was missing when we collected but they sent it along to our home as fast as possible and without complaint. Definitely would recommend.

We ordered a takeaway online from our caravan and having been recommended by our friends we were delighted with our food. The service was great and the covid rules adhered to. We will definately be returning to Penygroes Tandoori.

From the sublime smell to a taste sensation in every bite, a correct balance of exotic ingredients combined to create that perfect dish. Consistency you can rely on, and quality to applaud, applied to every dish a true taste of bangladesh cuisine.

All I can say is that the staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. The food was delicious and enough of it. Will definitely be going back.

Had the most delicious takeaway tonight from Penygroes Tandouri. A starter of onion bhaji’s a big portion crispy and full of flavour accompanied with a salad and mint yougurt. For main Chicken Tika chili Masala with special rice. Chicken was beautifully cooked in a garlic chili sauce with onions and peppers perfect combined for a balanced dish. The garlic nan was perfect to. One of the nicest takeaway’s I’ve had in a long time 10/10

They were wonderfully helpful as we are insolation After 8 weeks this was our first delivered take away for my birthday. Every dish was absolutely delicious authentic and really lovely. So yes I would do this again anytime

Their food is always amazing. Couldn't fault it. And they are always lovely when you walk in. Their Dhansak and onion bhajis are my favourite around the area. Would definitely recommend.

When y ask for a Naga and a Vindaloo, you get two very different curries. When you ask for a Korai and a Jalfraise, again you get two very different dishes. Penygroes Tandoori don't cut corners by making generic curries only a few can tell apart. Every curry is authentic and good. Keep up the good work.

Have visited on many occasions, from kebabs to a curry I've not once had a bad experience full or flavour and cooked to perfection !

We used to come here all the time but since an upgrade to the tills / electronic ordering / updated website and an increase in prices (no doubt to pay for all this) the food quality has gone downhill.

the food was nice but for some reason when you are ordering at the counter every time the phone rings the counter assistant would stop serving you to answer the phone. This happened four times during my order. I have never been so annoyed . I would not go here again because of this. What they are saying is the person on the phone is more important then you so i am going to stop taking your order when the phone rings and i will continue to take your order in between phone calls. Shocking

As far as take away curry goes there is no way it could be improved, beats most sit down restaurants ive had curry in. My teen boys loved it too. Its a hot one but so good. Excellent work guys . Visitor to the area on holiday from South.

We are lucky enough to live nearby, consistently tasty curries, lamb jalfreizi and dopiaza are excellent, as well as chicken tikka balti. Onion bhajis are good as well. Friendly staff and keen prices, can’t go wrong!

Having moved to the area 7 months ago we’ve been working our way through the local tandoori houses. Last night we tried Penygroes Tandoori Menu C for two and it was great.

First time we have tried here having used many other indian restaurants in the area and found it to be one of the tastiest.

We were a little skeptical at first, especially from the look of this building from the road. I can honestly say it was a really tasty meal! We were staying at a campsite a mile out from here and were craving a curry.

We stumbled across this place by accident a couple of years back and now every time we are staying in the area we make a point of going . Counter ladies are lovely , really friendly and chatty . We've never been let down with the food always been tasty , plentiful and not tight with the meat in the dishes either ... will be back in a couple of weeks when next down

The food here is as good as any top curry house. The staff are friendly and knowledgable. Rhiannon is an asset to the business. A Welsh Tandoori takaway to match any I have been to. I recommend the Bombay Massala. Top class.

We only stayed nearby for a week, but we used this place twice (wasn't part of our eating plan). But, the food was so good, we couldn't resist a second visit.. Cracking food...

Food is OK a bit bland could be more flavour and spices. Lovely onion bahjis ! Naan bread a bit heavy and have shrunk over the years to compare with Indian take aways in Caernarfon.(shame) Portions average prices reasonable. Would use more if improvement to...

The meat Samosas are just perfect, their the best in the area, dare I say best I've had in the Uk. Chicken chom chom is just as the name implies mmmm, very scrummy!Crispy popadoms, and a red sauce very nice indeed.Great value for money, massive chunks of meat in the lamb and chicken dishes. Great welcome when you arrive to collect, best to pre order as they are really popular. Fantastic food, great service, great value.

Disappointed in having to wait 35mins for food then Rogan Josh was poor just one slice of tomato on a curry sauce. Expensive for what was supplied won't bother going again.

Found the menu on the campsite we were staying at so gave it a try one evening. As we had never tried it before we were unsure what to expect but were very please with our meal . Generous portions, well cooked . We will make a return visit next time we are in the area.

First time visit, took a bit of finding as it blends into the Chinese take away sign next door. Very friendly lady took order even went out of way to make something that was not on menus. I've had a few strange experiences with curries in out of the way places so we approached the Pen y Groes Tandoori with a mixture of curiosity and trepidation. We needn't have worried. It is very nice indeed. My two boys and I had two takeaways last week on our holidays (indulgent or what!) and found them to be good value and tasty. I enjoyed my first one more than the second and could see a distinct similarity between the base sauces in a number of the dishes. Also a heavy reliance on food colouring which I find unnecessary. But all in all this was a good experience and head and shoulders above any other takeaway experience during our stay.

We recently ordered enough food for a 17 strong group, as we were staying nearby on holiday. The menu was clear (like the ones we are used to in London, where we live); prices seemed reasonable, and we were advised of a 20 minute pick-up time. The shop is tiny, and there is nowhere to park (just take your chances on the streets nearby, most of which have yellow lines). It is also take away only. However the food was ready for pickup on arrival; it was all there; clearly marked and well packed in a large box or two to transport. It was also piping hot! On arrival where we were staying, the food was ready to serve. And it was delicious! We had ordered a variety of the dishes as we were such a large group. Everyone reported that the flavours and quality were great. The only thing that was unusual (to us anyway) was that the mint raita was coloured red like the onion bhajis...but it all tasted good. The meat quality was excellent too; my chilli chicken tandoori was lovely. Recommended.
