Indiana Cuisine in Gwynedd

We visited at the new location in the Macdonald resort. The food was wonderful, the hospitality outstanding and the new restaurant was beautiful

This has now moved to Plas Talgarth Pennal (near Machynlleth) Had 3 meals here over the course of the week, the curry is authentic Indian style, freshly made to order. Most of the dishes are spiced but not hot, though there are a few hotter options I didn't find any a particular struggle, the focus is on flavour which is amazing. There are a handful of English/pub classic dishes on offer, the fish was something my grandma adored and the children's options kept my neice happy enough The bar staff are friendly, they kept a few hard working members from the previous franchise and the family who seems to run it are hands on and friendly. Raj opened up the pub early for a corrination celebration and said that BBQs over the summer would likely be coming. I said I had a handful of ideas for the summer months and I'd post them here: When the outdoor pool is open the bar should open during the daytime (rather than 6pm) parents can/would watch their children from the terrace and offering free refills for kids soft drinks would put a lot of parents minds at ease on those hot summer days Having an on resort take away would be amazing, even if it's collection only. Running events like wine tasting or even curry tasting (when enough people are interested) could bring people in to try new things similarly a kareoke and a pub quiz night night be a way to fill the bar.

We had takeaway from this restaurant and, I have to say, it was fabulous! Good portion sizes, and well cooked, delicious food. They asked us to text in the order, then texted us when it was about ten mins away from being ready. Worked well, but don’t ever expect it will be quick because good food takes time. I would heartily recommend!

My family and I ate here recently, the food, service and presentation was superb, all staff were very polite and friendly.

I rarely write reviews but I felt like I should on this occasion as I am unsure how this Indian has such high reviews. The food here was so bizarre, the onion bahjis were a bag of scraps, the masala was watery and the chicken slimy and the Peshwari naan bread was sticky and almost like a pancake in texture. I really had high hopes after reading the reviews and with the menu prices I hoped for great quality food. Sadly it was the most disappointing Indian I have tried and I certainly wouldn't be ordering again if I was to return to the area.

A superb meal here….the owner Raj allowed us to dine Despite being a takeaway only on the night so we have a private restaurant to ourselves. Every dish was simply amazing. Raj was the perfect host and even treated us to some free dishes….again gorgeous and fresh. The excellent use of spices made the meal I think……a credit to the chef….Noorie I think her name was. Overall, amazing. We will be back in a year!

Another fantastic meal out at our favourite Indian restaurant in Wales. We come every year for our holiday date night. This year we braved bringing our 2 children and my mum. The children really enjoyed the experience and ate plenty, trying new dishes for the first time. My mum was also very impressed. The usual excellent, friendly service and warm welcome. Faultless food and a great menu with plenty of choices for everyone. Always a treat to dine here. My favourite is the Lamb Jalfrezi and Garlic Naan!

We have been coming to this restaurant two or three times a year for the last 10 years with family and friends. The food is always high quality, fresh and healthy. The service is always friendly and as exceptional as the food We are keen to try Raj and Noorie's new venture on the Talyllyn Railway when we next visit !

Indiana Cuisine is always excellent, all round. Brilliant service - the rare kind that you will remember years later. Gorgeous food. Beautifully cooked, piping hot, and fresh ingredients. You won't find your regular takeaway korma or onion bhajis as you normally know them here - this is an authentic, Indian, family recipe menu and flavourings. I visit my parents in Fairbourne and coming here is a real treat. I had my 30th birthday meal there with some friends, and this evening we celebrated my parents' wedding anniversary there, and they were both very special meals. Thank you! See you soon

Just celebrated my wedding anniversary at the Indiana. Currently they only serve 2 tables in an evening while they concentrate on take away meals. The food here is truly authentic, beautifully spiced, fresh and tasty. They decorated our table and had a lovely welcome message for our anniversary. They did the same a few years ago for our daughter's 30th birthday. We are all seasoned travellers but feel extremely blessed that Raj and his wonderful wife decided to open their restaurant so close to our home. The only time I have tasted such excellent food is in Nepal and Sri Lanka. I have yet to visit India. My favourite dish is Biryani and I order this every time. If you like spicy food, this is just wonderful. Raj tells me there are 19 different spices in this dish. I am not a vegetarian but prefer vegetarian food, and the vegetarian Biryani does not disappoint. Try it. Call in advance to order your food. 4 very happy people tonight. Thank you Indiana.

We ordered a large take out at a total of around £146 - biggest waste of money, food was only just about edible, not very tasty and didn’t go down too well with the large group of us that ordered. Prawns were chewy. Korma was like a coconut sauce and nothing else (never seen a white Korma before) onion bhaji’s were just random strips of fried onions. Those are only a few of the badly received meals! Go further a field for a better meal!

Absolutely delicious meal. Everything was beautifully presented and exquisitely spiced. Loved everything but the Coconut Lamb will live long in my memory. Charming service from Raj but Chef Noori is the superstar here 😁

We ate at Indiana Cuisine last week and the staff were amazing. Extremely attentive and supportive, generous with their service without being intrusive. They really made us feel welcome, and we had an amazing time! The food was spectacular- we ordered a range of starters and mains and it was all absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection and beautifully spiced. There were Vegan options available as well which were gratefully received. This was one of the highlights of our trip and will be something we can all highly recommend.

Contacted the restaurant through their website and received a real response almost instantly from Raj. He sent through the menu and we confirmed an order to pick up as take-away. The food was outstanding, delicious and the service from Raj was excellent.

We had a fabulous evening at Indiana recently and were so well looked after by wonderful host Raj, and Noorie in the kitchen. We were requested to pre order which worked very well as we could just sit back and enjoy the ambience on arrival. Each dish was a perfect balance of spicing and flavour, the tandoori rotis were delicious and chapattis fluffy and light. It would be difficult to pick out one dish for attention over another. The pricing is very reasonable too.We were given some pistachio ice cream on the house which was a generous touch. The ambience is so warm and friendly, and they obviously have many regulars and repeat customers, plus regular and new holiday makers to the area. It does feel like being a guest in their home which for me is the mark of a really good restaurant. On the evening we visited, it was the last day of the 10 day Ganesh festival, and Raj related the story to me of how they came to acquire their beautiful Ganesh statue, and how it had travelled on the seat next to him on the flight from India many years ago.I would heartily recommend a visit if you find yourself in this beautiful part of north west Wales, you will leave happy and well-fed and looked after.

We have been to Indiana quite a few times before on trips to the area. On this occasion we were booked into another restaurant but were let down. We rang the wonderful owner Raj. We knew that he was only operating on limited basis due to the size of restaurant. He offered us a table and was as helpful and friendly as always. The restaurant is small, intimate and cosy and Raj is a lovely host who does everything he can to make the dining experience a joy. He succeeds on every level. Don't let negative reviews put you off as the food is amongst the best I have ever had and as I live in Leicester which has many indian restaurants of all types and levels. The complimentary spinach pakoras were a nice touch. It was a happy disaster that our original venue for the night didn't work out but led us to another five star evening at Indiana. Thank you Raj.

As usual our meal was divine, Raj went to enormous lengths to sort out meal for our two friends who accompanied us as they have food intolerances. Don’t go to this restaurant, Food was the worst we’ve ever had, we were taken in through the back door and the only ones in there, place was very dark and dingy, popadoms were cold and tasteless.starters came and were dry and over cooked at that point we called the waiter over and paid for the food and drinks we had and left

We went to Indiana twice during our stay in Wales. Such a lovely Restaurant. The staff were so helpful, friendly and they couldn't do enough for you. The food was amazing and very reasonable. Such a lovely atmosphere there. Definitely one of the best meals we've had.

This was the best Indian food I have had in the UK. My daughter and son-in-law (who used to live in India and know what they are talking about) agree. We were not an easy party (6 adults, 2 very young children, vegetarian/non-vegetarian) but we all had an outstanding meal — fresh ingredients, perfectly cooked, pleasantly served in a relaxed atmosphere. Raj is the ideal host — alert but not intrusive, and charming. At the end of the meal he did (very good) conjuring tricks for my granddaughter. The meal was so good that we had a takeaway a couple of days later, which was of the same high standard.

If you want a quick, cheap and cheerful, predictable Indian meal, fast food service, just eat and go, then I am afraid this is not the place for you. However.... if you want delicious, individually prepared food in intimate and beautifully decorated surroundings, served by a genteel and interesting proprietor then you will not be disappointed! Last night, having booked ahead and given our preferred choices from the extensive menu, we had a lovely meal. We can recommend the coconut lamb!

Fantastic as always. The best Indian restaurant I have been to in the UK. Wonderfully flavoursome food, which lasted us 2 nights. We visit once a year and it never fails to disappoint. Cash or bank transfer at the moment which is nice and easy, too. Well worth prebooking during the day as the can get busy (as everyone wants to eat there).

Amazed to find this Indian restaurant in little old Fairbourne but it turns out the world has beaten a path to its door. Beautiful food and charming proprietor.

Had no choice but to have a take-out as dining indoors was very limited. It's a tiny restaurant with not many tables. The food took around 45 minutes from when we ordered it, which was fine, but the food itself was disgusting. The korma was watery and had obviously been microwaved several times. The naan bread was dry and flavourless. The tikka was bland and the coconut lamb was foul. They missed a portion of rice and a naan from our order, but by the time we got back and realised, they had closed for the night. £76 for tasteless, lukewarm, badly cooked food. Wouldn't recommend the place to my worst enemy. They won't be getting our business again if we're ever in the area. They only take cash too for takeouts. If you're staying in Fairbourne, make sure you plan your meals well because there are very limited options in the area.

My partner and I had just finished cader idris and being a bank Holiday the restaurant was only doing takeaway but we heard great reviews and decided to give it a go after a tough day trekking.My partner and I ended up getting engaged on cader idris and so the owner said "I can't send you away with a takeaway on your special day" and so he let us have the restaurant to ourselves for this exceptional circumstance. Unbelievable hospitality and a true gent. The meal was genuinely lovely too and the table was nicely decorated for the occasion. To add to this my partner and I (mostly) are vegan and the kitchen were very accommodating making nearly all our first choices on the menu into a vegan version. There is no limit to my thankfulness for this special favour that went above and beyond! This place is certainly worth a visit.

We booked ahead of time, so thankful we did. The owner is the most amazing host, we've been coming for years whilst on our holidays to Fairbourne. Covid had bought tough times for many but this beautiful restaurant have not let it dampen their hospitality one bit and are so accommodating.We all ate superbly and for a reasonable price too. Make sure you try and book nice and early before your trip, they are very popular for take aways too.

We had a takeaway from this restaurant on Saturday night and it was the worst curry we’ve ever had. I’m fairly sure the Indiana (korma) dish had a cream of chicken soup base, the Makhni was flavourless and the peshwari naan was awful. We did order a bottle of house wine (which incidentally was very nice) however (for the whole takeaway) we were charged £75 for the privilege. Do not recommend!

Nice friendly staff and decent food. Ordered the Methi Chicken and the Fish Frankie, the food disappoint. If you don't like spicy food the fish Frankie may not be for you as it as a good bite. If we were in the area again we would eat here again. The only disappointment was that they don't serve Nann breads before 18:30.

Have not ordered from Indiana Cuisine for a couple of years but all 6 of us wee very happy with our tasty and beautifully cooked meals. The Jalfrezi was good and hot, the Coconut Lamb was sweet with a rich lamb flavour. The naans were excellent. We will be back (hopefully not another 2 year gap!). Highly recommended

We wanted to try Indiana based on the reviews we had seen on Trip Advisor. I 'phoned in the morning to place an order for evening collection. As others have written, Raj couldn't have been more helpful, making some suggestions as we don't eat meat. When I collected the takeaway, it was a pleasure to meet someone who was passionate about the food he and his wife prepare. Spot on and well worth the 50 minute round trip from Abergynolwyn where we were staying.

Whilst on a Welsh road trip we ended up in Fairbourne. It’s a lovely but very quiet village and very surprisingly had an Indian restaurant. Being from the curry capital of the UK I was craving for a curry and decided to give it go. I wasn’t expecting much but was REALLY surprised! I had a spicy chicken bhuna, garlic naan and rice and the whole meal was superb. A match for the food at my favourite Indian restaurants! The owner was really helpful and friendly and I would definitely recommend this restaurant/takeaway to anyone staying in the area.

I rang Raj to check & he asked if takeaway was ok or if we could be flexible with the time we could eat in, we agreed on 6pm for the Monday evening, and little did we know he had opened just for us. An amazing touch!He asked if we could pre order, which was not a problem at all, and when we arrived he was his usual charming self. Made us feel so specialWe were given complementary spinach pakoras, which aren’t on the menu but are amazing! We shared a prawn starter which was gorgeous. My partner had the murgh mallai as a main, I had a chicken bhuna (Raj did say it was spicy & checked that was ok via text after if sent my order) and oh my life it was amazing, spicy but so so tasty. Has to be one of the best if not the best curry I’ve ever had. Also had a potato side dish, rice & a naan. The meal was outstanding.He came for a chat after the meal & showed us pictures of what they hope to do once allowed, with outside bbq evenings, Welsh weather permitting, so we really hope we can make it over again.A fantastic meal, charming hosts, and not to mention the amazing chef!A must visit if in the area folks for a traditional Indian meal

We have visited this restaurant many times and have always had excellent food and service, even on a busy weekend.Once we could travel from England into Wales again, I immediately tried to book a table, however Raj advised that they were only doing takeaways. He also asked if this was OK for us; it wasn't due to travel time. Sensing my disappointment he offered us a table booking on Sunday evening, little did I realise they were just opening for us.Our meal was excellent, we had a couple of poppadoms and dips then I had the garlic mushrooms for starter and my husband had fish Amritsari. For main course I had Chicken Biryani and my husband had chicken Jalfrezi we had a side dish of saag aloo along with a chapati each. Everything was cooked beautifully. We are both big eaters and neither of us had any room for anything else.This is 'proper' Indian food, cooked with great passion by Noorie. If you want typical English Indian food this may not be the place to come. If you want to try the 'real' thing, then I don't think you can find better than this little restaurant tucked away in Fairbourne. Booking is a must as people travel from miles around. Ps They don't do chips and probably best not to ask...it is Indian food at its best.

Although providing a mostly takeaway service due to Covid restrictions, when Raj heard it was my birthday, he opened the restaurant just for us. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome and our table had been specially decorated in an unexpected, thoughtful gesture.We were looked after attentively but in an unobtrusive way throughout the evening, which I think is an extremely tricky balance to pull-off with only one table of guests, and for which I commend the whole team!The restaurant has clearly been decorated with love and it has a friendly ambiance which was still palpable, despite us being the only guests.The food did not disappoint. Our starters were a feast for the eyes as well as the tastebuds.The Chicken Indiana (Korma) was unlike any we have ever tasted. No generic sauce here, but a 'homemade' delicacy. My son, who ALWAYS chooses Korma, agreed that this was something rather special. The same unadventurous teenager commented on the succulence of his lamb starter; both of our youngsters sat up and took notice of the delicious food they were served and were even tempted to try each other's dishes. If I had to pick out one dish, it would be the Baigan ka Bharta ~ smoked aubergine. The flavour was extraordinarily delicate and a Must Try for anybody else visiting Indiana Cuisine.If you find yourself in the vicinity I would highly recommend going out of your way to experience Noorie's cooking. Perhaps you too may be able to make a special arrangement with Raj to dine privately dining during Covid?A perfect birthday treat!

Fabulous. This is exceptional, fresh and beautifully cooked food in lovely surroundings. You can get the train over from Barmouth and it’s an easy walk directly across from the station. One of the best curry’s we’ve ever had - and we’ve had many!

We were staying in Barmouth and travelled on a 10 minute train ride to Fairbourne . The restaurant is right next door. The lovely owner Raj let us in as he’d only opened for a 70th birthday party. So glad we made it the food was fantastic all cooked by his wife Noorie. Service and friendliness of all the staff was excellent can’t wait to go again.

We got a takeaway on Sunday and it was superb! The food is cooked to perfection and has unique, exquisite flavours. It's authentic and they have some different dishes to your standard takeaway. The owner was so friendly and showed my son some magic tricks while we were picking up our food. Really enjoyed, thank you!

Our car broke down yesterday and we were stranded until 1030pm! Sadly cut short our final night of the holiday. But the fanatic team at this restaurant agreed to stay in beyond there closing hours to make sure we got some food. And what delicious food it was. Really saved out final night. Really reccomend the Balti and tikka masalas. Paratha bread also delicious. Highly recommend this curry house.

My parents visit this restaurant every year on holiday and they always come home raving about the great food, the warm and friendly welcome, and the wonderful atmosphere. Definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting the area - you won't be disappointed.

We are so lucky to have Raj and Noori in Fairbourne top class food always! We have been visiting for years and through lockdown we still get our regular take outs every time we visit. Raj and his team provided absolutely amazing service. Very kind and friendly staff. The food (as always) was amazing, I have had something different each time (which is not something you can often do as a vegetarian) and it is always delicious. The Naan bread was a highlight for everyone and everyone said how tasty their meals were. Can’t wait to be back :)

Excellent food with such a great choice of menu choices that we have not tried before. Cooked from fresh ingredients so very flavoursome and light. Each dish was cooked individually. The welcoming and friendly host Raj and the professional waitress made our visit.

Great contact from Raj about our order and gave us options for our vegan friends on what to order. For 4 people we felt our order was on the expensive side, £78 for 2mains, 4sides, 3 starters, 1naan, 2 chapatti, 2rice, as we would probably pay half that for the same amount back home however......the quality and amazing taste of the food is absolutely worth the extra cost. You can tell this is authentic Indian cuisine and that each dish is prepared and cooked fresh to order. As a holiday treat for us it is absolutely worth it and can highly recommend the onion bhajis and the khumb ki sabzi mushroom dish.

Just home from our first holiday in two years due to open heart surgery and covid, and made extra special by treating ourselves to Indiana Cuisine three times. It was easy to phone Raj and then email him with our orders. The times were set for collection and the greeting was warm, friendly and very welcoming. We have been enjoying Noorie's superb meals now for many years, sadly not often enough due to living in Nottinghamshire! This time the first meal was for four of us, then twice for two of us. We loved all the mains that we tried... Chicken Jalfrezi, Indiana, Methi, Makhini, coconut lamb, all superb. The rice and poppadoms along with dips accompanied various tasty starters and veg choices. We always found these evenings very special and it would have been against the law not to have enjoyed a glass (or two!) of wine with it! Reading a particularly malignant review below I just can't understand why some people are so unpleasant... they must have very sad lives.The only thing that would make the experience better will be when we can spend the evening inside the restaurant again and not to have the meal as a takeaway.Thank you Raj and Noorie... we will be back... and I hope it won't be more than another two years x

We had a balti and a chicken karahi. With some samosas and seek kebabs. The food and spices was proper fresh and tasty. Highly recommend this little place

What a horror story! Whilst here on holiday, we decided to celebrate our anniversary evening with a family takeaway meal from Indiana Cuisine after reading such great reviews on trip advisor. Well I can tell you honestly, the meal was a massive disappointment and complete waste of money, food went in the bin. Over spiced, overcooked, lack of flavour, very poor quality. How has this place received such positive praise? Surely they must be writing their own reviews? Perhaps people reviewing this place have either never had a decent curry before or popped in after the pubs were closed. First time I’ve been mugged in broad daylight, seriously one to avoid. Wish I’d read this review before visiting!

Glad to be able to return, excellent menu, special friendly experience, thank you Raj, look forward to returning hopefully once Covid rules are relaxed further and more tables are allowed as atmosphere here is really good.

I have been a regular at Indiana for many years and I never cease to be amazed at Noorie’s culinary skills. I no longer order from the menu; I let Noorie decide for me and I am never disappointed.During this pandemic and the various lockdowns, their takeaway system has been a godsend. I can ring Raj at any time to place my order and book a slot for collection and, if the phone is busy, I simply leave a message.Wonderful service leading to wonderful food.

My wife and I were fortunate to be one of first to visit this fantastic restaurant today after lockdown . The food was as alway cooked to perfection and Raj gave a warm welcome. We will certainly be making this a regular visit now we all have a more freedom. A must visit.

We had a takeaway from here over the May bank holiday weekend. Doesn't look too impressive from the outside,but appearances are deceptive. The food was amazing. Very tasty, unusual selection on the menu. Friendly and efficient phone ordering system.Not cheap but this isn't your average high street Asian mass produced food.Highly recommended.

Once again a great take away from Indiana. Food excellent, well worth a visit. Can’t wait for my next trip.

Moved to the area 10 days ago, tried a take away and were very impressed, full of flavour, loads of meat in both the lamb and chicken curries. Rice, side dish and the crispy onion bhaji strips all super. Really look forward to actually dining IN the restaurant, once restrictions allow, to enjoy the full in-house dining experience.

At the moment they are only doing takeaway. We had a pickle tray, got two sauces, and they forgot to put the popadoms in. We ordered a starter called a meat platter. It was a tray of meat, very basic, just seasoned chicken and kebab meat, not worth the 15 pound price tag. We ordered two curries, a rice and a nan, again they were very basic, no vegetables at all in the curry. The portion sizes are small especially the rice. Would not recommend and wouldn’t order again. Very disappointing as we picked this place based on the reviews. I felt like it was a waste of fifty pounds.

Limited menu. Good food and a few vegetarian options... the vegetarian platter was delicious! (Naans weren’t available on the day we ordered so they provided us with chapatis instead).

After a day on the beach in Fairbourne, we ordered a take-away (COVID19 restrictions) and ate it in the camper before driving back to our site in Dolgellau. We had 3 vegetarian dishes and breads, all with very different sauces and unusual spice combinations. We will definitely be back when next in the area.

After a long day on Snowdon we didn't fancy cooking so ordered a takeaway from Indiana. To be honest I didn't have particularly high hopes, but then read the reviews and was a bit more optimistic. When the food came it was fantastic, one of the tastiest Indian meals I've had. The kids loved the chicken Indiana, and the jalfrezi and karahi were great too. Highly recommended!

On the advice of my sister-in-law, we came to Fairbourne for a curry and were not disappointed. The menu was really interesting and every dish was different. We had tandoori starters and I had the Fish Frankie for mains. Everything was full of flavour and really amazing. Just sorry that we didn’t get to dine in this time but we will definitely come back!!! Thank you for a lovely meal.

Indiana Jones, that famous Welshman with such a taste for perfect Indian Provender, could not do better than to stumble across this gem of a restaurant, this ark of cuisine. Rich aromatic spices, mild flavours, a temple of hospitality in this unexpected spot. We took home a range of these delights, including Black Daal, Jeera Aloo, Baigan Ka Bharta, Bhindi do pyaza, Channa masala, Sabzi sangam and some old familiars as well, and sat around the table chatting happily, until the plates were wiped clean.

We had an amazing takeaway for 7 including 1 vegetarian and 2 vegans. Without exception the food for everyone was amazing. Would 100% reccommend.

Enjoyed a very tasty takeaway meal from here during our stay.Due to COVID it was not possible to eat indoors, however would recommend a visit,if your in the area. Quick note, they don’t take cards, at least in the takeaway, certainly whilst we were there.

It’s been a long time since we have been allowed to visit Wales, top of the agenda was Indiana Cuisine, at present only in takeaway form. As usual we had an excellent meal.

I went here in late December and was treated to a wonderful, flavorful meal. The service was excellent and the menu had a wide selection. It was easily one of the best Indian meals I've had, and would definitely go back. It's definitely a hole in the hall and easy to overlook from the outside, but it's worth the visit or three.

I have been to this Indian a few times and each time I am amazed at how nice the food is. It's a very welcoming restaurant with amazing hosts and service. I wish my stomach was the size of a hippo so I could eat more because it is truly unbelievable. The flavours, spices and quality of food is unbeatable (and I have eaten many Indian food). By far the best food I have ever eaten in my life.

We rocked up without a reservation but were fitted in no problem as it was quite early.All the meal was lovely, everything is cooked from scratch as you order it. On the house spinach pakora as we waited for starters was a nice touch. Staff were great, attentive when needed and left us alone else wise. We would definitely go back.

I would highly recommend this restaurant we tried a curry here on the 4th of march it was amazing the owner raj and norie his wife who is the chef ..are appsalutly lovely people the food is top class it was that nice I booked my birthday meal here ..and what a lovely evening they made so much effort ..decorated the table for me with happy birthday...truly amazing so I would like to thank raj and norie for such a lovely evening it was the best and also for my gift x
