We went to Pennys after discovering the two other cafes we had identified were no longer in business. The place was clean, the owner friendly and welcoming but the food, while adequate and inexpensive, was uninspiring. Other cafes where I have given a high score have gone the extra mile with home baked bread, cakes, scones, homemade soup, burgers etc. As it was, we had a chicken baguette (processed chicken slices in a sub roll), turkey and stuffing baguette (processed turkey and stuffing in a sub roll), cheese on toast (processed bread and cheese) and two beefburgers with cheese, onion and chips (processed breadcakes and cheese, commercial burgers). With 4 cups of tea and an orange drink, the bill was £28 so, on the one hand we weren't robbed, but on the other hand we were disappointed.

Not very good. Not worth paying for, customer service very poor, horrible attitude. Coffee was nasty and the food tasted like the entire thing was from a tin or frozen. Don’t waste your time, extremely poor effort for a local caffe. And also the ‘cash only’ tax fiddle is a hindrance. Sort it out.

We popped into Penny's for breakfast this morning and really enjoyed ourselves. We had a toastie, a baguette and a small breakfast. We also had drinks. This came to just £10. What a great deal. The food was really tasty. Penny was very friendly as well. To be recommended.

Was staying close by for the weekend and was recommended by our hosts. Full English was only £4.50 and very filling indeed. Great value and cooked really well.

Phoned penny's with our order and take-out toasties were ready in 10 minutes. All exactly as we had ordered and deliciously hot and fresh. Excellent value for money and the staff are friendly and efficient. We all enjoy penny's toasties when we are in the area and have done so for many years. We've had a full English breakfast in the café in the past which was also first class.

Ordered breakfast baps for a group of us to take away. Very tasty and reasonably priced. It would be good if they delivered. Pleasant and polite service.

Call here when we have an appointment at the hospital. Good friendly service, good choice of food and portions and presentation very good. Not many places you can have 2 meals and 2 mugs of tea and have change from £10. Seems as if locals from the village use it regularly Certainly worth a visit.

Had many a breakfast and lunch here over the years and the standards have never dropped, simple menu good food and if you're short of time you could grab a large muffin with various fillings all of which are very competetivly priced.

I visit here quite regular. They do so many choices and it's so tasty. Made to tour choice and they are a very reasonable price. Would never go to another sandwich bar. My personal favourite is Chinese chicken.

It is the first time I entered this cafe for over 60 years. Walking into my past. A spotlessly clean and sharp evocation of what an ice cream parlour was in the 1950’s - beautiful. The service was friendly and charming. Coffee with frothed milk - not a modern affectation. Where else can you get a cup of comfort in such historic surroundings for £1.28? I am sure the ice cream would have been as good as I remembered. An absolute gem and Rhyl should celebrate it.

The Layland Arms deserves all 5 stars! The food was absolutely sublime, with every dish bursting with flavor and expertly prepared. The staff were amazing, offering impeccable service and making us feel right at home. It was a great experience from start to finish. Highly recommend!

First time visiting and we had a fantastic afternoon tea - absolutely delicious! The service was absolutely excellent and the staff were brilliant with catering for children. Nothing was too much trouble! We were so impressed with our experience and will be back. I didn’t get her name unfortunately, but the blonde waitress who served us the most was absolutely lovely and we can’t thank her enough for making us feel so welcome and looking after us. Thank you!!
