A cafe that offers a basic menu at fantastic prices. Vegetarian meals available. We were served by a friendly girl, the tables were clean and the whole place is clean/tidy. Food arrived quickly and was well cooked. The 'big breakfast' was a good plateful, and very good value. Will definitely return when next in Stroud.

We walked in to have breakfast this morning and were told to ‘get out’ when we sat down - we had bottles in our hand which we had no intention of drinking in the cafe and wanted to buy a full breakfast and warm drinks! I went back in to complain as I was shocked that we had been spoken to like this and explained that we were legitimate customers - to which the manager/ owner replied with ‘I don’t give a sh*t’ and was very rude - other customers had heard this exchange and how rude he was. There were no signs on the doors to say you can not be carrying a drink in your hands (we’d been in town and had no bags to put them in) and had NO intention of drinking them on the premises and were genuine customers. I have never been spoken to in such an appalling manner by a hospitality business. What a blight on the lovely high street of Stroud!

Popped in for breakfast, placed order. When three orders placed after ours got served we asked for a refund. The server was nonchalant, refunded saying he wished he could make our day better. Try serving your customers. I guess if you live local you can get service, visitors not welcome

After being a loyal customer of this cafe for more than 20 years, I was disappointed to me spoken to very rudely last Saturday by one of the owners, for merely looking out the open back door after using the loo .Although this was my favourite cafe in Stroud, I now feel uncomfortable going there, .

You are always greeted with a friendly welcome at Penny Farthing. The value for money is incredible here, half the price of a cooked breakfast elsewhere! The food is nothing fancy but it is cooked and presented well. My favourite little caf.

My husband and I were in Stroud for a few days and wanted something to eat. Now we like these type of cafes as the offer great food at great prices, nothing fancy just good English food. We came across this cafe by accident and very glad we did. They cafe is clean and plenty of tables, of which about half were being used. If you have breakfast before 11:00am then a discount of £1 per meal is applied. Well cooked and good ingredients. Service is friendly, polite and professional. Would I return, Yes, would I recommend it, yes.

This cafe is known for their breakfast and I can see why. My partner and I order a breakfast each at 2:30pm as it is served all day and we hadn’t eaten yet. The food arrived within 10 minutes and was delicious! We even were cheeky and asked to swap out certain parts of their preset breakfasts, to which they were very accommodating. The breakfasts themselves are a lovely size, the bacon is amazing and thick, eggs and hash browns cooked perfectly. We had the standard mug of coffee each which at £1.35 didn’t expect much, but even the coffee was fantastic! The only thing I would recommend for them to start doing is soya milk as my partner is celiac to dairy so had to have it black as they didn’t serve soya. Highly recommend for breakfasts, will update when I come back for a different kind of meal to see if the rest of their food lives up to the breakfasts :)

Seguiremos frecuentes.

Food wise this cafe can't be beaten, lovely hot chips...not stuck together or greasy, strange looking yet tasty omelette, all reasonably priced. The decor is varnished pine and banquettes so it looks a bit dated but that's part of it's charm.Friendly clientele, a few fruit machines which looked out of place. Only problem, very strange "banter" from the man behind the till, I thought he said under his breath that he didn't like me...bit weird maybe...I've heard other people wonder about similar experiences, I expect that I'm just not getting a joke etc. Will be going back though as the breakfasts cost less than a Costas coffee before 11 am

excellent place to have a traditional fish, pie or pasty and chips, with baked beans, bread and butter etc. Plus baked potatoes with butter and choice of fillings, all for under 4.00 pounds per plate. It gets very full at lunch time, so go later in the afternoon if you want a quiet meal. Several choices of English and American breakfasts, all reasonably priced. Choice of coffee types and sizes. All in all, a typical English style cafe at a very reasonable price. Very tasty

A caff, basically. No pretensions, I don't think the furniture or decor have changed in decades, there's an air of time hanging heavily over the place and the seats are fixed benches which lanky people like me have to sort of sit side-saddle on to get our knees in. Also, bulky people might find the clearance between the fixed seat and fixed table a little challenging.BUT where else are you going to get a good breakfast fry-up for £2.99 or even £1.99 sometimes and a proper cup of tea? AND you can often get a good lunch like ham egg & chips for £2.99! AND on cold days it's nice and warm inside.Amazing it still keeps going with so many flashy cafes/restaurants/fast food outlets in Stroud. I hope it does - for one thing it keeps the competitors' prices sensible.

Food always good - a simple basic greasy spoon cafe with lots of space. The other meals are also simple. Think fish / pie / chips n peas or beans. The staff are friendly and prompt. I have enjoyed my fry ups here for years. The Gut Buster at £5.40 is fab and still the best value in town - 3 sausages 3 bacon chips 2 eggs beans burger two toast and toms and mushrooms. But mostly an unpretentious friendly cafe. I think I'm almost the only Guardian reader in there :-)

Really good no frills pub food. Good value for money. Main courses two for the price of one. White bait good, Ribeye steaks cooked beautifully and were very tender. Homemade sauces both peppercorn and Stilton were very good.

Fantastic "proper" pub, which does good food but the focus is firmly on great beer, often with 8 real ales on and a number of keg too. If you like beer, this is a destination pub. Keep up the good work guys, and never forget to have a selection of hoppy pales on too 😄
