Really did not enjoy any of the food. Soup tasteless. Rice poorly done. Rendang curry was bland. Satay chicken rubbery. Would not recommend nor will I use again.

Most of the food was quite good but we reviewed an unknown and inedible dish instead of the one ordered, we'll simply go elsewhere in future.

The most horrendous Chinese meal we ever ate, absolutely no flavors no quality and just horrible food all together, hot and sour soup totally unrecognizable and the rest not even worth mentioning!

Malaysian food is delicious. Always happy with my Laksa. Love the Hianese Chicken And the Penang Lok Bak and Wasabi Prawns are divine!!

Had a couple of lovely meals here. The roti is the best! Service is very friendly and has a family run homely feel. One to check out in Southgate

We have been here for the lunch menu twice and really enjoyed it. The set meal is very good value with a choice of 4 or 5 starters and main courses. We also added a selection of other dishes to try. The staff were very friendly and helpful and constantly topped up our chinese tea and didn't mind us just sitting there chatting for ages.It was hard to pick a favourite but I loved the Mee Goreng .Will definitely go back.

We've been eating here since we moved to the area and it's the best around. The food is consistently good as is the service even if it is a little pricey. But I suppose you get what you pay for.

Food tasted different to usual Chinese takeaway and the reason was quality of ingredients. Prawns in rice were substantial size and chicken was lean and nicely cut.

Hok Kien Chai is a strange dish and not the Hokkien Mee I thought it would be, i.e the dish you get in Singapore/Penang. Won't order this again!

I want to recommend this place as it deserves to be praised. Big and tasty portions, not very spicy if you have European taste, good choice of meat and no-meat meals, a waiter brings hot water to add to your tea if too strong which is very unusual as in different places you have to ask for it and pay extra. Very clean tablecloth, extra serviette put on your laps by a waiter, at the end you get lucky cookies and sweets. nice climate, nice music, service discrete but doesn't overwhelm you. All within £10 ( can be more or less depends on your choice) what else to ask for;-)))) worth to recommend. P.S. beautifully folded napkins kept in a vine glass

Awful. Got the Chinese greens in oyster sauce and the greens hadn't been washed. The noodle dish was too salty and the ingredients didn't taste of anything. The duck was okay, but this is pretty standard for a Chinese.

Starters were good, they were slow to serve the main courses out, so some of the people at my table were finishing their main course before others had been served. My main course was barely warm when it arrived, so by the time I was half way through the meal, the food was cold. The food tasted ok, however overall disappointing.

Friendly service but could have cooked the food myself, apart from the flat bread which was delicious and I would have no idea how to make.

I'm very sorry to say I won't be ordering from here again. The food had only 3 king prawns and 1 slither of chicken in it. I happen to love all eastern food but the lack of quality has now put me off of this place, the flavour really wasn't there either.

The service was good but I have to say the vegetarian options were limited. I asked what they could offer and the waiter suggested one of the noodle options. I asked for the Singapore noodles and asked if they would include vegetables in place of the meat. My dish arrived, lots of noodles and nothing added! So if you are a vegetarian and you are happy to have a plate of noodles then this is the place for you.

I went here recently with my sister in law and cousin and we all enjoyed our meal. The portions were good, the food was freshly prepared and we were well looked after. It was a bit quiet so not much atmosphere but it was the middle of August and they do a takeaway service which must be tempting for some people to order in rather than visit!

Delivery time was the only thing good about this place. My crispy duck came which was perfect, my pancakes were not cooked/steamed or whatever they do. The bottom half was a paste, I could roll balls with it. I rung to have my order rectified and 3 people had to speak to me to understand my clear BRITISH accent. Currently awaiting a replacement.

I know it sounds like too much praise, but this is honestly the best take away I have ever eaten. It was delicious, flavourful and tasted incredibly healthy. The delivery guy was lovely too.

The restaurant is nearby to the B&B we are staying in Southgate, around 30 mins ftom Central London . We were having a late lunch/early dinner, around 5pm. The menu selection has many authentic Malay menu such as Nasi Lemak, Laksa and beef Rendang. We ordered nasi goreng aka fried rice, beef char kuey tiauw and hot&sour soup. Service is quick but probably due to no other guests were around. Being an Asian myself, I found the food tastes quite original although I believe its spiciness has been adjusted to suit locals. The soup contents extensive mix of meet and is refreshing. The char kuey tiauw has good amount of beef and fresh beansprouts. Price is fair for such restaurant while you may be able to find cheaper place in China Town with similar portion size and taste. If you pass by the area, this is worth to try but may be not for a special journey to make.

We highly recommend Penang Cottage. The service was very good - they made us feel appreciated. The prawns with ginger and oyster sauce are wonderful; fresh and flavorful. We would order any of the dishes again and hope to have a chance to visit Southgate again so we can have another meal at Penang Cottage.

The delivery was reasonably quick and the delivery person was friendly. We have never ordered from here before but I'm now wondering 'why not'!! The food was absolutely delicious! Non greasy and an authentic Malaysian taste! We had roti cani, which is absolutely divine and two mains to share! Full of taste and simply gorgeous! Thank you for the lovely meal :)

Disfruté de una cena en Penang Cottage después de una intensa reunión de todo el día con compañeros de otros países justo el día 14 de febrero. Gracias a Dios, el restaurante no estaba lleno de decoración de san Valentín, lo cual se agradeció mucho. Las raciones fueron abundantes,y todo estaba realmente bueno. Nunca antes había probado un restaurante malayo, y me sorprendió para bien. Me llevé la impresión de que es algo más fino que muchos thailandeses, y mas creativo que cualquier chino.

This restaurant opened in Southgate around 6 months ago, and we've been there 4 times this month, which says it all. The owners are Malay chinese, and they offer a Malaysian menu, which includes Nonya dishes (specific Malay Chinese cuisine), We have been steadily working our way through it, and haven't been disappointed yet. They also offer a 'standard' Chines food menu, which we haven't tried since there are plenty of good Chinese restaurants in the area, but they are there for the faint-hearted who have never sampled the delights of real Malay cooking. The staff are friendly and helpful, the value for money is fantastic. Try them and find out for yourself. They have one or two issue with their website, but don't be put off - this is a place which is well worth supporting.

Have eaten from this restaurant twice, once to eat in on a Friday evening and the other a Saturday night takeaway. The quality of the food is very good and very tasty. The restaurant lacks in ambiance however makes up for this by the excellent customer service shown by all the staff. Highly recommend.

Went here for lunch - family of four. It's our first dining experience here. My husband is very pleased with the food he ordered (Penang Curry Laksa Noodle). As we are both familiar with Malaysian dishes this is a real treat. We had been looked after by the staff well. Southgate is a town in it’s own right with bars and restaurants. It has fantastic restaurants, combining foods from many countries such as Greece, Turkey, Italy and India. I do really hope this place will survive tough competition.. Definitely be a good place to dine out as we love Malaysian/Chinese food. I understand it is not for everyone's taste - there are light options i.e.good selection of fried noodles for those who are not into spicy, heavy meal. I would recommend this place.
