Kiplings in Haringey

I’ve loved this institution for many years & had many great meals there. Today though we ordered a chicken tikka masala which traditionally involves the meat being cooked over coals. Instead of that though they put a load of paprika in the curry which frankly resulted in neither an authentic or enjoyable element to an otherwise great meal.

Just had a takeaway, from this well respected restaurant, it was all very dissapointing. I'm sorry to say this is the worst Indian meal I've ever had. The chicken hariyala tikka and chicken hydrabad were dry, prawn puri was flavourless the onion bhajis were also dry and the nan undercooked and doughy. I hope this is just an off night, but I won't be ordering again.

Food's great. No one took order for ages, not even drinks. At some point an angry waiter approached who was apparently (quote) "too busy" and "we had to be quick". We tell him we haven't had a chance to order drinks, he proceeds to ask for starters. Terrible service.

Poor attempt at making a curry, It didn't have any flavour I know what a Madras curry should taste like , as I've been eating Curry , for more than 40 years Also having visited every country on the Indian sub continent , so Please could you make your Curry more flavoursome, as I'm sure the rest of your menu seemed well enjoyed from most of your patrons from down the road in Archway .

Delicious food (had poppadoms with an excellent mango chutney, and a Korma with pilau rice) and very friendly staff, beautiful decor and location, highly recommended

Great food lovely setting and staff

We have been customers for years when we lived closer but we moved out of the area. We decided to visit again last night, even though it is a bit of drive now. So glad we did! The food was exceptional as always, the portions were huge and we left with a ‘doggy bag’ for today’s lunch with the food that we were too full to eat. The ambience, service and prices all excellent too! Thank you for a lovely evening.

Food is fine, normal average. Service is patronising. I wasn’t sure who is serving who at some point. Won’t come back even though we live around the corner and love Indian food.

Yummy food, highly recommended.

After many recommendations I finally visited, and I was not disappointed! The food is delicious and fresh, the staff and service is first class with a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. Excellent location for both public transport (short walk from Highgate station) and if driving there is ample parking (free from noon on the road and all surrounding roads!) An extensive array of drinks at the bar accompanied with fine fresh dining, what else do you want?! I have since returned several times, highly recommend!

Nice food and good atmosphere. The food is really well-cooked and delicious. The lamb chops with the stone pots are my favorite. The atmosphere is really good—it's not too busy, and the furnishings are quite nice, all at a fair price. Recommended.

I was passing by this restaurant & I stopped here with no expectations and was blown away!! The food was actually very very tasty!! We had the lamb tikka, hariyali chicken, tadka daal & roti & it was lovely !

This lovely restaurant was suggested to me by a good friend of mine, and rest assured, it did not disappoint! Situated a bit out of the way in Highgate Village, I was immediately taken by an impression of formality and a rather swanky heir about the place; the staff however, were welcoming and very polite. The dishes were served quickly and were delicious! The Chicken Tikka Masala was excellent, and had a slight sweetness on the finish, which I found gave the curry distinction and finesse. We also had Lamb Vindaloo that was moist and succulent, with just the right amount of spice; served over coconut rice, both curries were splendid. We also had plain Naan and Keema Naan (Naan with minced, spiced lamb, and a bit of coriander that added a lovely hint of tanginess) and both were excellent. For drinks we had a large bottle of Tiger beer and a Coke A Cola. Our entire meal came to under £50! An Excellent value for money, I am so looking forward to my next visit to Kiplings: highly recommended! 😋

I don’t even know where to begin. I want to say thank you to Mr Ali, Kam and Mr Fukrool (I know I spelt this wrong, I apologise). They were so kind and friendly as soon as we walked through the door. The food was absolutely amazing, lamb was tender the jalfrazee was just spicy enough. I will absolutely be back again.

Decided to go here with my husband for dinner. The food was delicious! Would definitely recommend and will be coming back.

Wow just ordered our first curry from here and it was totally and utterly delicious. We ordered A mushroom rice, chicken tikka, chicken jalfrazi, channa, Bombay potatoes, garlic naan & poppadoms.

We went to Kipling in Highgate for a birthday celebration. The service was excellent, the decor creates a lovely ambience and the food was excellent, the portions very generous. Highly recommended!!!

A quiet ambience, so rare nowadays. Service was excellent, food very good and large portions so we brought home enough for another meal. The king prawn puree was particularly delicious and the rice, a useful test of an Indian restaurant, was just perfect

The best lamb chops I’ve had in a while. Perfectly cooked (medium) amazing flavor, tender and it’s served sizzling. The butter chicken was good as well.

The restaurant is immaculate. I like how traditional it is. The Waiters are polite. It is slightly uncomfortable when they hover about though. I love the Food but wouldn’t recommend the Tandoori Chicken ( which is on the bone ) it sadly didn’t even equate to 1/4 of a Chicken!

This is a delicious local Indian. The food is always fresh and very very tasty. Clean and comfortable restaurant. One of my favourites in NW London. Update April 2023 Sadly Kiplings has closed down.

Kipling's continues to be one of the best Indian restaurants in the area. I visited with a friend after drinks and it hit the spot again. We shared a tandoori mixed grill platter which was perfectly cooked and I had Chilli Chicken Massala which is my favourite curry here. The Naan was soft with a touch of crispiness and our side of Bhindi Bhaji had been cooked until just before it lost the firmness, nothing like the mushy version you get elsewhere.

This is an excellent Indian restaurant. We had a prawn saag, chicken chasnidarg, brinjal bhaji, rice and paratha. Was all very tasty. Very decent portion sizes too. Would have been 5 stars if it weren't for one very miserable waiter. 😂🤦 The rest were chirpy tho.

I think I’ve probably tried every Indian takeaway in north London in the last decade, and this is my clear favourite. There’s a real flavour and freshness to the food that really sets it apart. Thank you very much to the restaurant for the consistently great food.

No thrills food, brisk service, ok to bring children. Occasionally a fight in the kitchen spills into the restaurant, which doesn’t bother me. What does bother me is that the food I ask to take home with me (that’s worth saving, sometimes we don’t touch a dish as tend to over-order) arrives stuffed two or three different dishes into one container. Just discovered chicken tikka and sag paneer mixed together in a container my husband brought back last night (I didn’t go). In another container plain rice, pilau rice and half-eaten naan. I dread to think what’s going on in the kitchen when no respect is shown to the food they cook. Or perhaps to a customer who, they must think, like a pig, will just stuff their face with the blended mush.

Great menu, plenty to choose from. If you like a hot curry this is the place for you. Very generous portions and delicious as well.

Ordered from the guys after a recommendation from a friend. Really impressed by the quality of the food. Chose the lamb dishes and the meat was very tender. Arrived very promptly, and was immaculately packaged and labelled. The staff were polite and considering too. Will be ordering again. May try out eating in the restaurant too

My favourite Indian restaurant in the country and I’m from Manchester (the home of Curry Nation Street). The staff are always lovely, the service is great and the food is delicious. My family love this place. Thanks guys for being so good.

Best Indian food in London!!! Seriously. We tried 4 other Indian restaurants during our trip (including Dishoom), and Kipling sits at #1. Great service, lovely atmosphere, and seriously amazing food.

I have been to many Indian restaurants down the years, but this has to be my favourite. Took the whole family, and we all enjoyed the experience. Amazing food and great service. I would recommend the Kipling to anyone who likes real good food. 👍🏾

Fabulous restaurant in Highgate, Lovely surroundings, excellent food, welcoming staff. A great selection of curried to choose from, with lots of chefs recommendations on the menu. If you are in the area, it's worth stopping for a meal, you might want to book ahead if it's a weekend, as they do get really full.

Amazing food and the staff are lovely. Tired the lamb pasanda and mushroom bhaji. I'm used to a more creamy pasanda, but this one was full of flavour. I definitely recommend ;)

Can’t believe we’ve not reviewed yet. The best Indian we’ve ever had, and this is echoed by family and friends we bring with us. Additionally, I have a number of food allergies, and it’s never been a problem at all. We’ve had dine in, take out and delivery—all brilliant. In fact, on Valentine’s Day last year, we went outside to collect our much-anticipated delivery order, and our neighbor was outside to collect his order at the same time. Clearly they’re doing something right! Lots of fans :)

Used many times for take away. The food from here is very good and surprisingly tasty for its location (I’ve spent a good deal of time in Whitechapel where curry is the local staple). I cannot speak for the eat in experience but the food, while a little pricier than some, is times better than any other local Indian I’ve tried and well worth the extra expense. Highly recommended.

Great food, great ambience, great service with multilingual head waiter Ali ably supported by Kamrul, his two brothers and uncle. Really felt welcome. Will certainly return to work through a very varied menu which has something for all tastes. Clearly a lot of thought and effort has been put into it and the superb cooking.

The service here was second to none. Ali, one of the waiters, was above and beyond with his impeccable service. It was a total joy to be around him. We ordered a vidaloo and it was the best i have had in a long time. The food and service cannot have a higher recommendation and i highly encourage anyone in the area to visit.

Very good Indian. Manages to combine tasty comfort food portions with surprising subtle and complex flavours. A bit expensive, especially for poppadoms, rice etc, but it's in Highgate, so that's to be expected.

Recently visited with work colleagues, we all had an amazing time and the atmosphere was buzzing. Ordered loads of curries, I particularly enjoyed the lamb curry and will be returning in the near future. Amazing staff and management.

Always excellent! From traditional to chef specials the food is delicious, well spiced, and good size portions. The service is very good and clearly want everyone to have a good dining experience. Tables are apart enough that sound and health/socially distant reasons are fine

Great service, delicious food & nice surroundings

I don't say this lightly, I am yet to experience Indian food as good as this, and I live in East London (essentially home to some of the best curry houses in the UK) I loved everything about this place, the staff are very accommodating and professional. The meat they use is of a very high quality (I've never had so much as a single piece of fat in any of the lamb curries I've ordered) I really couldn't recommend this place any higher. Fantastic food.

I have used this Indian restaurant for many years, eat in and takeaway! My family and myself have never been disappointed , it is always fresh, hot and definitely one of the best curries in north London ! The management and staff are extremely friendly and polite and I would definitely recommend to friends and family!
