Penang Satay House in Haringey

I ordered a Singapore Laksa having eaten it half way through the bowl then I found hair from the noodle soup, had to pull it out of my mouth, I immediately STOPPED eating and raised a concern to the waiter, he was being very apologetic, but the owner was shouting at the waiter for raising the concern. Waiter came back apologised again and asked me to pay the full price, which I DID. That was the treatment I got, so best of luck.

Malaysian restaurant in North London, a few minutes' walk from Turnpike Lane tube. Very good chicken lo bak. Enjoyed the vegetable laksa too - creamy, two kinds of noodles. Wish they did Roti Chennai!

Unfortunately despite all the really positive reviews our experience was not good. The tofu starter was a bit bland and the satay sauce quite sweet and watery. We waited an hr 20 for our mains and they were also disappointing. The veg noodles were average, and the chicken curry was very salty. We got no apology until the mains were cleared and we had asked for the bill. At 50mins, we were told I food would be out any second and then waited another 30 mins. It was cheap was our only positive take.

Staff was super friendly, dessert was amazing.

THE best Malaysian food outside of Malaysia! I've been going for years and it's the real deal. Love the place, love the food, love owner, love the prices! Only thing I miss is the batik table clothes they used to have pre-refurb! Went on holiday to Malaysia because of the food here, and it's JUST as good and as authentic as 2000 miles away! I hope it never closes! I dream about the nasi goreng and gadoh gadoh! (Note my food price is for 2 and includes lots of food and drinks - you can eat much cheaper than I do!)

Words cannot describe, it seems so crazy to write a review which cannot do justice to such an establishment. The flavours… fantastic. The service….unreal. The value for money… nothing no compares. I implore you to come to penang satay house and brighten your outlook on life.

INSANE quality - one of the best beef dishes I’ve had by a distance! Also amazing portion sizes, service and pricing. What more could a man, woman or child ask for? I’ll sleep easy tonight I’ll tell ya that for free. Not sure if 10s exist but this runs it close

Easily one of the best Malaysian restaurants in London, at the fairest prices you'll find anywhere. Family run since the 70s by the most charming lady and her daughter. Light and refreshing satay sauce, home-cooked curries, gorgeous coconut & jaggery pancakes, everything on the menu is worth trying.

I never use this term…. But this is truly a “HIDDEN GEM”!! Despite its comprehensive menu, the dishes are quick, and packed with flavour! Prices are reasonable and service are warm and friendly. Would definitely recommend!

Excellent Malaysian restaurant in the neighbourhood — the Nasi Goreng and Laksa are at their best here. I've tried a new dish based on an Asian sort of vermicelli, Char Keow Teow I think it's called... delicious 😋

This feels like a family owned authentic restaurant. The two middle aged ladies were both warm and attentive. The food was great and such good value for money. However the main highlight for me wasn’t the dishes on the table. It was the moving fan installation on the ceiling. I could sit there and watch it slowly rowing all day.

Went there with my family of 4. The staff was very kind and pleasant, with a high chair provided for my littlest one. The food itself was exceptional. The beef and chicken are halal, and the taste was fantastic. We ordered some chicken and beef satay for starters and the chicken in tamarind and Char keow teow (beef) for mains with some jasmine tea to go along with it. The portion sizes were perfect for my family with nothing left over at the end, but we all felt more than satisfied. The price came to around £30, which was less than we were expecting to pay, especially for food of that quality. PENANG SATAY HOUSE: WHAT A GREAT VISIT!

Food is authentic and fresh, very nice!!

Gorgeous food in this place, lovely staff, reasonably priced but the place needs a clean up! Filthy chairs showing stains, quite a bad smell when you enter. Really needs a lick of paint and a good old scrub. Unfortunately probably will not go back until it is cleaned up as a little offputting. Shame as the food is lovely.

Really enjoyed our dinner there last night. We thought the food was great and very reasonable by London standards. Staff were very friendly and attentive and my husband who is veggie loved the salt and pepper tofu. Will visit again when we can.

Really disappointing. The tofu satay was cold tofu puffs with a load of satay sauce heaped on and the creamy vegetable curry was uncooked vegetables with tasteless bland sauce. Service was incredibly slow and incompetent. Worst meal of my year, will not return.

Worst Malaysian restaurant in London. Was confused throughout the whole time regarding the menu and the service. Took one hour of waiting to get the main after starters and everything tasted as bad as it can possibly get. The service was horrible and they seemed like they didn't know what they were doing at all.

Very reasonably priced restaurant, super tasty food. Mains in 2023 around £8-£10, starters for less than £5, juice for £1.50. Lots of options, with unique flavours. We go back every few months.

Food tasted nice but on the way home I had a bad stomach and when I got home too I did not feel very well. I am dissapointed will not be eating there again.

I have been a long time customer of this friendly local restaurant and the quality never wavers! Delicious, authentic Malaysian food is hard to find in London (in my experience) which makes Penang Satay even more of an invaluable gem in north London. Cannot recommend highly enough!!

The food it's ok but the portions are too small, and the waiting for food is too long. The waitress seems to be not happy when saw us, so we didn't feel welcome.

Love this local gem and the aunties running the place. Some food not exactly authentic but hard to find anywhere outside Malaysia that can do it and this restaurant does a great job.

Visited this restaurant this evening and was completely blown away by the quality of the food. So flavourful and fresh. Meat was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The staff were very friendly.

I always compare foods and quality with price. This is a cheap/medium-priced restaurant. I ordered Singapore Laksa and Fried tofu. Singapore soup was awesome big portion and it was only £8. Fried tofu wasnt very good tho. The environment is beautiful and you will be hosted by Malaysian people which is quite nice.

It was ok. Nothing was bad but nothing was standout either. Doesn't seem to know what it wants to be and many items are just like a typical Chinese place. 7/10

Dine in review: Delicious, authentic, reasonably priced Malaysian restaurant. Fabulous Singapore laksa. Thank you! Perhaps turn down the halogen spotlights in the evening for more ambience. Take away review: Had a takeaway this time. Thai red curry was too sweet (no better than out of a jar, unfortunately), but the Singapore Laksa was again delicious (and well pakaged for transportation), as were the beef with ginger & spring onions and other dishes.

Went here as the place we were going to was closed... We had the set meal for two....With the beef rendang..... the whole meal was really nice... and not too expensive.. definately worth a visit.. weve been twice!!!.

Delicious and affordable food, good service, and a homely atmosphere that makes you feel like you're in Southeast Asia. The Satays are authentic and delicious, Char Kuey Teow is authentic and has immense Wok Hei. Hot Melakan Sugar Coconut Pancake with Ice Cream Dessert was smoky sweet and delicious. Looking forward to going again many times!

We hadn’t been to this restaurant for many years, but we had good memories of eating there. Findings ourselves in the area we decided to have dinner there. We were pleasantly surprised, the meal was delicious and freshly prepared. There was a steady stream of what looked like local customers picking up takeaways and eating in. The bill was just over £30 for a set meal for two with starter, main meal, vegetables and desserts. We did not have drinks but tape water which is reflected in the cost. The only negative was that the twice cooked pork was not as tender as we expected. We will definitely be back and not leave it for so long again.

Had a great meal here tonight with a friend! Chicken Satay, Singapore Laksa, Coconut Pancakes with ice cream, a soft drink & a coffee - all for £18.20! All the dishes were extremely tasty & good portion sizes. I used to come here about 20 years ago for staff get togethers, when they had karaoke in the back room & catered functions - maybe they still do? The same lady Manager is still there & the same Chef!! Do go along for some excellent, delicious Malay food! 😋😋

Interesting family run Malaysian and Singapore style food, quite an extensive menu and some dishes were interesting but others didn't quite meet expectations.

We have been here several times and it is very good value and delicious malaysian food with friendly service.

Delicious welcoming very helpful atmosphere and excellent efficient service! It was lovely and inshallah will go there again after Ramadan. The prawns dishes were delicious and the Malaysian chicken curries, beef curries, nasi goreng , beef and chicken satay yummy. Good portions, quickly served as my hubby and children were fasting and all halal. Good prices and affordable. Definitely recommend this place to families who love Malaysian food and people with great taste and hospitality.

My family have been coming to this restaurant for over 30 years and it never disappoints. It is a lovely family run business with a great variety of dishes full of flavour. It is great for both vegetarians and meat eaters alike and I would highly recommend the curries and fish dishes.

Best restaurant around the north of London. Among all the Turkish and Indian places, this place stands its ground and serves amazing far eastern food. We keep going back. We stopped counting how many times. The waitress (owner?) always welcomes us with a huge smile. The atmosphere is amazing. It's always warm and cosy, no noise, no loud music. Perfect for chatting, or a date, or just a quick dinner out. The set menu is really worth the price and you get an amazing assortment of food. You'll get everything listed there except the dessert which is "choose one". In the pictures you can see "Menu C" for 3 people. You'll also get really nice prawn crackers with anything you eat as a pre-starter. Note for the owner: for some reason we always want to go out for dinner on Tuesday evening, but then you're not open :( We didn't go at least 5 times in the last months because of this.

Fantastic service, brilliant food, and lovely people. Our family have been coming here for years, and I highly recommend visiting Satay House. I recommend lobak, crispy tofu, any of the beautiful yellow curries (the prawn is my favourite), and crispy noodles too from the mains. The gadoh-gadoh in peanut sauce, chicken satay and spring rolls satay are fantastic too from the starters.

Had a great dinner with friends. Great to taste and learn about new foods. Lots of vegetarian options and the flavours spectacular.

Superb Malaysian-Singapore restaurant close to Turnpike Lane station. Excellent food and short but good wine list at very reasonable prices. Friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere.

As a Malaysian I highly recommend this place! We live in the local area and got delivery which arrived in about 30 minutes. I ordered the Laksa, sambal squid, spinach belacan, lohbak and nasi goreng to try. I really recommend the laksa in particular - really warming to have on a Sunday night.

One of the best Malaysian restaurants I London. The food quality is sublime. I have been eating at this restaurant for over 10 years and the sate has been the same. The lady who ran the place is so kind and always ready to attend. Parking can be little tricky before 6pm as its on yellow lines, but after the restriction time is free to park right outside. Road is very busy.

Eating in is always a pleasurable experience. To be fair have not been for a long time but decided on takeaway. The crispy noodles were anything but. They tasted boiled, probably because they're put into plastic containers where the hot food continues to steam. The chicken in ginger was a let down. I don't remember it being like this. The meat was cut into very tiny pieces, the onion was too much, all in a watery sauce, more like . £22, for three dishes isnt a lot, but all the containers were small, and were not full. Was not enough for two people. Wish take outs would go back to foil containers. I wouldnt do takeout again but would go to eat in instead.

Amazing food and service as always

The staff are so friendly and welcoming! They stayed open longer and didn’t rush me and I ended up feeling so bad because I realised it was so late and I asked them what time do you finish and she said ‘30 mins ago”. This just showed me how they really care and the food was homely and tasty thank you! I will keep coming in again, the service and food was refreshing 🙏❤️

I just discoverd this place with my brother, we took set A to share, it was really good and unique, i really liked orange chicken and prawns with bamboos. Dessert was amazing. Really recommend this place and definitely I will be back here ;)

Since I have travelled Malaysia I have not had a decent beef rangdang ANYWHERE! BUT FML this place is the best by far... come here eat be satisfied and then look at the bill and wonder if they have missed items off it! So we'll priced... food so good! 100 percent recommend

Pleasant enough for a very casual dining experience, and very cheap

We were so disappointed how they overcharged us for the bill. Their Satay fish advertised as £9.50 but they charged us £12.50. When we tell them we have been overcharged, they simply tell us it's now £12.50.. or if we want to cancel the order.. without any apology.. By law, we should pay for what is advertised on the menu. Not charging us higher price without telling us at all. This is very dishonest way of making business. They can keep doing the same trick to other customers.

Went for dinner for my daughters birthday. Their ordering system is a bit slow as food cones out in dribs and drabs. By the time your main gets to you the rice us cold. They do the best satay chicken though and staff are really friendly...

The clue is in the name. Best satay in London by a long way, tho tbf I've never had better anywhere. Love this place, everything else is at least very good, tho sometimes better. And the staff are lovely. Definitely worth a visit, then you'll be hooked 😉

Came for a quick take away a few days ago. Tried the fried Kueh Teow... it was excellent. Prices are very reasonable too.

The food is really good, First the Satays, Which Tasted Spot on,Second,There was the pecking duck,The Duck Was High quality,And Really Mouthwatering,And then come in the Main Course, Which delivers loads of Plates Of different type of a food,Like for example, One's fried rice and One's spicy Noddles,It Just tasted so Good,And then the deserts, They were so good, That it's a once in a lifetime to try it
