Peking Phoenix in Eastleigh

Over the years we have enjoyed food and service of high quality delivered food. But since earlier 2025 the quality of food (meat, vegetables and rice) has plummeted … This has coincided with a change of staff. All the old faces have gone and the cheerful Lady that ran the place name So Pin Chan - Gone. If the takeaway meals reflects restaurant food. I would go somewhere else.

Worse chinese meal we ever had . Delivered to Holiday Inn. Ordered chicken fried rice , chow mein , sesame prawn toast, Just throw in bin. Rubbish

Don't go here the beef was off in the house special and smelt of BO.

Was the best Chinese in the whole area. Great food each time and good portion sizes. However, ordered April 2025 and usual items and it's all changed. I'm guessing it's changed hands or different chefs as really really disappointed. I'll have to find a new Chinese 😭

Hot tasty food at a reasonable price and service was very good. Would be nice to have a beer on draft. Recommended.

Amazing we were regular visitors when Charlie and susie ran the restaurant and returned after two successful deliveries staff friendly and cooked the food after we made changes to the dishes fabulous

Sadly this was the worst meal we have ever had. Will never be going back. Duck has huge amounts of fat in it, rice and sweet and sour chicken was cold. Very disappointed - definitely not recommend.

Under new management but we didn't find out until we were there I must say I didn't think that the Pekinh Phoenix could get any better but we all enjoyed our food and the service was good too

Everything has changed since the new owner has takenover. New staffs were confused having trouble with my order and are incompetent except the for the guy that worked here before the takeover. Service was slow. Waiting time was over an hour which was ridiculous! When the food finally came, it wasnt even hot. Drastic decrease in quality, very disappointed.

Delicious food cooked to perfection. Great value for money as well. There is a great selection of main dishes and as a mixed party of non vegetarian and vegetarian we all had lovely food.

We dined here with friends last night 6/3/25 , the food was excellent the staff were amazing, we had the buffet menu and everything we ordered was fresh and tasty, I would definitely recommend, I googled looking for a Chinese restaurant and found this place and so glad I did will definitely be back

We love it here. My kids and I love the buffet menu. The food is cooked to order and is always very delicious. The crispy duck is amazing!! All the items we had were amazing actually. The staff are fab, so friendly and attentive. We were last there with a party of 6 for my twins birthday and it everyone enjoyed it. Highly recommend

We ordered a takeaway for delivery, the restaurant advised it would take 1.5 hours. Unfortunately after 2 hours we phoned to enquire on the status of the delivery, no one seemed to know, apparently it was going to be another 15 minutes. I challenged the staff stating the service was is not acceptable and asked for a refund, they refused except for a small gesture of £6. The restaurant after speaking to several individuals in essence told me to either accept the £6 refund and the very late delivery or no delivery and a full refund. Customer service is appalling, we accepted the delivery (without a refund) , to then discover they had also failed to deliver all of the order!. I tried to call the restaurant to advise them of their error, predictably they did not answer the phone. When I challenged the individual on the phone why they had failed to deliver our food on time they apologised and said they had been busy!. Surely 1.5 hours from order to delivery is sufficient, at no point when placing the order did they warn me there would be delay. AVOID THUS RESTAURANT

After tolerating the subpar Chinese restaurants in Winchester for 2 years I thought I’d venture further out into Eastleigh and my word it was worth it! Staff were super friendly and I cannot describe how good the food was! I very much enjoyed my time in this restaurant

Always tasty fresh food with friendly and lovely staff who work there. They are amazing for price, considering the big portions you get. My favourite Chinese restaurant and takeaway! Thank you.

Very poor chicken balls tonight well over cooked! The rest was okay, but my favourite is normally chicken balls so this has put me off ordering here again.

We cook very well at home and judge bad food accordingly. Peeking Phoenix serves amazing fresh food with each element cooked as well as they can be, the staff are always friendly and you can tell this is a close nit family venture. You’d never think this restaurant was in Eastleigh, an asset to the town.

Started using the takeaway again as it is now home delivering. Previously food was excellent. This time so disappointed...food was mediocre, batter was dense and chewy and salt and pepper chicken was also chewy and over salted! For this we felt the takeaway was very expensive. Such a shame.

Came here by chance last week for dinner with family. It was amazing! Food was unreal, service was great and the price was really reasonable. We loved it all and will be back!

The is no Chinese that even comes close to how good this is. Staff are lovely and so welcoming! The food is a 10/10 every single time ❤️

Not sure what’s happened to the food quality lately. We have previously used Peking phoenix as our go to delivery, even though it’s a bit further out and charges for delivery. Unfortunately, the last two times we have used them, the see er and sour chicken balls have been inedible. The balls are tiny, dry and hard. Even trying to put a fork through them has been challenging. they are more like over cooked oven bake chicken nuggets. A real shame as previously the food has been exceptional. Sadly will not be using again.

The first time we had the sweet and sour chicken balls, they were fluffy and light with moist chicken. Unfortunately the next two times they were dry and hard, so we’ll be looking for another Chinese takeaway. Shame as most of the other food we’ve tried has been pretty good.

Growing up trying there food when i was a child remembering every part of the meal was a total explosion of food heaven, went tonight after 35 years, same name, same owners passed down, was a inplosion , lack of spice, lack of meats and veg in it, it was enemic, want to thank u for trowing away the best food memorys ive ever had.

5 of us went for the buffet option for £27.95 each. Sounds a bit steep but it's worth every penny. The buffet is cooked freshly to order and there are plenty of choices. All food delivered was hot and tasty and we all agreed that it was most probably one of the best Chinese food experiences in a very very long time. We will be back and highly recommend this restaurant.

Hi everyone, On the day 8/3/24 I made an order around 10pm my son went to pick up at 10:30pm. I ordered 2 servings of king prawn rice 1 sweet and sour chicken 1 ribs and 1 crispy seewed 36£ aprox. The rice came without king prawn each ration had 3 shrimps what seems to me a scam, the chicken was a small tray is no longer a large tray like that of rice. I called and as they had closed they did not give me solution, I just had to call the next day. Why should I call? Why didn’t the manager call me back with any offer? It is not the first time that I buy there in this restaurant it was my favorite restaurant of Chinese food, I seem to have played with my time and money, took advantage of the closing time to send me anything. This makes you lose a regular customer. Sorry!

Disappointed, waste of money. Tasted like it was cooked yesterday and heated back up. Chow mein was rubbery and hard, had better microwave meals to be completely honest. Won’t order again unfortunately

We ordered this evening for the first (and definitely not the last) time. We consider ourselves “foodies” (despite this being a takeaway review) and can say everything was cooked to perfection, very tasty and clearly very fresh. Not only that, the delivery was surprisingly quick and everything arrived piping hot. Highly recommended.

Visiting friends we had a takeaway in the evening and it was one of the worst we've ever had. Noodles very salty and greasy, chicken balls very dry, bean curd in black sauce very salty, crispy seaweed was coated on so much salt. All the food we received was unacceptable to eat salty greasy and expensive it went in the bin. Won't be having food from here again.

Ordered here for the first time. I will not be using these again. My order was nearly two hours over due. They also missed food off my order that cost over £80 for a family celebration. Phoned several times to be told driver on his way. When he eventually arrived, I got no apology at all. If you can not handle the demand then don’t take orders. Considering this was an order placed mid week and not a weekend, I would have expected better service.

Awful. Phoned for a meal delivery for a family party and was told it would be 1.5 hours. This was just about acceptable. After 2 hours and no food or update we called back to be told it was in the car with the driver. Another half hour went by and we called back. This time we were told it hadn’t left the restaurant. This meant the food would be cold in any case if they even got round to delivering. Given the assurance of a delivery time and false information when requested I wouldn’t trust this restaurant. Have previously had a nice meal in the restaurant but cannot trust them for delivery.

Peng Chinese, order and regular order from here, also delivery time is quick and offer free prawn crackers and free delivery which is really amazing in general, food arrive hot all the time , amazing and just what you need , I'm drunk writing this but get this if you are craving Chinese , is amazing.

We had a delivery from the Peking Phoenix and definitely the best Chinese meal we have ever had. Arrived on time and was delicious. Will be using them again in the future.

We had a lovely meal here, called ahead to check if there was space for 2 which they fitted us in. Staff were nice and friendly. Food was delicious, we had the Peking celebration from the a la carte menu each course was excellent no long waits, food seemed to arrive just in time. Would definitely visit again...

Our usual go-to Chinese was closed so we rang for delivery. Large rice and noodles for 4 were great but main courses were pretty small in comparison. But the flavour of the chicken in yellow bean sauce with cashews was next level lovely meal, but portion police was a bit strict.

The best chicken and mushroom soup in England. And their black bean sauce dishes are so flavoursome. And always friendly and welcoming.

We were staying in the nearby Travellodge for a funeral. We were late arriving and looking for somewhere to eat and I googled this restaurant. We had a take away. Pleasant, helpful staff to us 4 old aunties. Gave us everything we needed to eat at our hotel (it was late and didn’t want to eat in). The food was piping hot and delicious. Would recommend

First and last time I order a Chinese from here, I was told it’d be the usual delivery time like most takeaways. In which I was obviously happy with! (45mins) .. after an hour I phoned for an update and was told it has just left and it should be with us anytime now, and they apologised as they were really busy. A further 30 minutes went by and I rang again questioning where my order was and I got told the same thing.. ( the order left 35 minutes ago) .. sorry we are really busy. 15 minutes after that food turned up completely cold. At this point I accepted defeat and had a cold meal. I’m sure I will not be the only unhappy customer tonight!

Opposite a park with a lovely old bandstand you will find this great eatery. It is only open evenings and there is free parking across the road after 6.00 pm. The food was very good and usual we ordered far to many dishes in order to get a wide range of tastes. We were not disappointed but vey full. So Pin and her team we’re very efficient and cheerful without being pushy. Highly recommend a visit.

Took my Dad out for Fathers Day. It was so lovely and the food was amazing especially the spicy chicken wings! Lovely service and friendly staff - we both agreed we couldn’t fault it and will definitely be back.

Very nice chinese resturant . Wide choice on menu. Food very good and staff very polite a traditional Chinese resturant which has been operating in Eastleigh for least 30 years.

Service was really quick, ordered in store and our wait seemed very short to get the food, nice surprise. Food was all present and correct. Prawn crackers were great, light not greasy and good flavour. Mixed starters were nice, spring rolls looked slightly dark but we're very light, ribs typical Chinese style, prawn toast was the best, large slice full of flavour. Satay sauce was great. Mains were OK, nicely cooked. Chow mein was a large portion, with large prawns. Kung Po was radioactive red, I prefer it lighter and more spicy. Will likely return for dine in and will use again for takeaway as the best Chinese we've found in the area.

We found this Chinese restaurant by chance, at what a find it was. We had a thoroughly delightful meal on a Saturday evening. Good food and very friendly service. Will definitely use it again when in the area!

We have been coming her for years and love it. The service is great and the food delicious. We always get a very warm welcome and come here as a couple, with our older children and with friends - would recommend highly!

If you want a proper old school Chinese with great food and great service look no further. Decor could do with a touch up but otherwise it was brilliant. Could not fault the food at all.

Superb Chinese, all freshly made to order. Fabulous menu with too many delicious foods to try. My sister is a regular visitor and it was just the two of us on this occasion. We had the ribs, dumplings, chicken chow mein, squid and sizzling prawns…….so delicious!

Of all the reviews I have done as a local guide this has to be the worst. I attended today having read the Google reviews and what a complete waste of time. On arrival from the hotel, we asked if they could provide a table for four and whether they had any lagers on draught. The response was the most rudest response I have ever experienced in a restaurant. Not sure if this gentleman was the owner or the waiter but his response was ‘you asked for a table sit down then I’ll answer your question about the lagers’ - he stood there in a threatening pose and more or less was saying sit down or get lost. I responded by asking the same question again and said that he was being rude, to which he shrugged his shoulders, threw the four menus into the pile and walked away. Do not waste your time going here, the place did not look great at all and then the disgusting attitude wow

Nice place for groups. They seemed a bit flustered, and not too sure on what was available. The food eventually arrived and was very nice. Decor a bit grim.

Went with two other people. The restaurant wasn't very busy because it was midweek. The staff were really pleasant and attentive, and offered advice on what to have. When the food came three of the dishes looked the same, with a strange red sauce covering them. The sweet and sour chicken in a red sauce didn't taste like any sweet & sour I've ever had. The crispy chilli beef (also in a red sauce) wasn't crisp but it was very chewy. The rice and prawn crackers were ok. Not the best we've ever had and the price was on the high side as well. I think it might be a while before we try it again.

I went to this restaurant on my 13th birthday, and I am now 43. I was a regular user until circumstances prevented a return for a few years. My family and I started to return after the Pandemic and the quality had not changed. We now go every month as we cannot decide on any other restaurants and do feel like risking another when we know how good this is. this month we've had an issue with a family member who has been unable to leave the house. We were hoping to wait it out, but we couldn't resist and have now started having takeaways from here...even though there are closer options available. The food and staff are just too good. I intended to have my 60th birthday here!!!

I have not been to this restaurant in 16year when live in Eastleigh, but I must say it is still just as good now as it was then. The staff are really friendly and food is excellent.

This restaurant is a gem, authentic flavours and a wide choice of food. I hugely enjoyed my time there! Truly recommended!

This made my top 3 worst dining experiences. Decor seemed nice enough, your typical Chinese restaurant catering for English people. Ambiance was also nice. My partner and I were greeted at the door and shown to a table, again, standard fare. We had a quick browse through the menu and ordered wonton soup, "minced pork szechuan", "confusion of the cabbage", deep-fried squid and plain rice. The food arrived fairly quickly, not surprising considering Chinese chefs often use a powerful flame which cooks the food in the wok rather quickly. Sadly, the food with which we were met resembled something quite vile. The "minced pork szechuan" tasted like ketchup and sweet chilli sauce mixed together, plus additional sugar. The cabbage was coated in sugar-vinegar, but the quantity of sugar was enough to slay 3 diabetics. Deep-fried squid was poorly (probably not even) seasoned and had the texture and taste of deep-fried shoe. I've had bad meals before, and usually I just power through, pay, and never return, but this was different. After about 10 minutes of forcing it down I began to feel nauseous and sweaty. Eventually admitting defeat, I called over presumably the owner (she went around table to table asking how everything is) and tried to tepidly critique the food as I don't like confrontations. She proceeded to not even acknowledge what I was saying, responding with "yeah you can take it home, eat tomorrow, no problem". This forced me to be straight with her and mention how terrible and inedible the food is, but she continued her charade and pottered off. I mentioned my nausea to a waiter, he simply pointed and said "toilet that way" as if this is a common occurrence. At this point the nausea and sweating was bad, and I was going over in my head how we should only pay for the beer, wonton soup, rice and prawn crackers (this was all we actually ate, bar a few mouthfuls of the aforementioned), but due to my cowardice and impending sickness we paid the full amount and slunk out, defeated. One thing I'd also like to mention, throughout the meal/ordeal the wait staff were stood there in opposite sides of the room, continually staring at us. Unnerving. Avoid like the plague (or like bad Chinese food).

Peking Pheonix has been a favourite of ours for years now. The staff are alway positive and friendly, the service is quick and efficient. The menu has many choices and the food is always hot, tasty and extremely filling! Pricing is on par with most places and worth every penny, they evn do take away with local delivery, which is also quick and always arrives hot.

Really disappointed in the quality of food and size portions to what Ive usually had from this place. Food was cold and sizing was much smaller than before. This used to be my number one Chinese and now unfortunately I don't think I'll ever order again. Gutted as a Chinese takeaway is a once in a blue moon treat!!

Great restaurant, excellent food.

Normally the food and service from here is exemplary. However, tonight two main dishes were missing from the delivery and took over half an hour from informing them that they were missing to turn up. As a result the rest of the food was cold! Also they phoned back to check what was missing and questioned my partner in a way which made her feel as though they thought we were lying! The quality of the food is not as good as normal, not just because some of it was cold!

Fantastic service, great choice of dishes and the food was delicious. We went on a recommendation and would recommend to others.

The atmosphere was amazing and the staff welcoming, I would recommend the duck it was great and definitely worth the price, the crispy chilli beef and the smoked chicken.
