Ashdown Oriental in Eastleigh

Thought we would try this place. What a mistake. The most awful food. Chips seemed to be old and re cooked. Rice tasteless. Curry congealed and horrid. Noodles like rubber and crispy chilli beef tasted of vinegar. We wished we have just taken it back and got refunded. Please avoid and this place needs to sort itself out. Horrible

I am redoing my review as this place has changed hands. The owner hasn't changed the signage, so I was interested to see if they had invested their saving into food quality or a great chef. Sadly I was much mistaken. Mouldy windows frames inside, curtains to hide what could be a lovely open kitchen take away. Food was very below par. I only rated it 3 last time, that has dropped to a 1. I won't be back. I recommend peking phoenix, the water Margin, or fusion noodle bar.

Singapore fried rice and hk style chicken. Unbelievably actually worse than before. Won't be using again

New owners & reopened. Really impressed - we have had 3 meals from here over the last few months and they have all been generous portions high quality takeaway food. Can particularly recommend the (22) King Prawn with Salt & Chilli & (74) Singapore Vermicelli. Thank goodness for a great Chinese takeaway in Chandlers Ford again.

Decided to get a takeaway last night 6/12 23. Since it has new ownership we have tried it a couple of times with no fault on the food we had. Last night was a disaster from the start They forgot to put the pot of curry sauce in , so had to drive back around the shop to pick up with little apology. The king prawns in my dish were like rubber And couldn’t be eaten also the chips we had looked like they had been deep fried several times . My wife’s chicken dish wasn’t very good, we were very disappointed with the food. We probably will not use again as the food was not up to standard

Food was good. Be warned that they don't accept card payments, cash (there is an ATM near by) or bank transfer. Might have been a one off.

The ASHDOWN Oriental has re-opened under new ownership. The food is freshly cooked to order and is piping hot and flavoursome The portions are generous and reasonably priced. We choose to collect our food from the shop rather than rely on any available delivery

Very disappointed!!!!! my son wanted a Chinese take away for his birthday dinner chicken balls had no crisp to them and were soggy chips were uncooked prawn crackers were soft and probably made last week and to top it off 3 items nearly cost £20 not sure I will using them again 😢

We had a set meal for two, I wasn't sure how good it would be as my recolition of the last meal wasn't great......Well FORGET that!! This was totally SUPERB, lovely individual flavours of ginger, sweet & sour, succulent pieces of chicken, crispy noodles & really great rice. Will definitely use again as it was probably the best Chinese I've ever had, bar none!!

I have been going to Ashdown Oriental for years so it's about time I acknowledged how wonderful it is. Great family run business with the food tasting great every time and with excellent reliability. Thank you for those times when I don't have the time or inclination to cook. What a team. Well done.

Time to give these guys some positive reviews. The food is so much better than the last time i ordered from here (probably 2 years ago), and I vowed I would never go back, but will definitely go back now. What an improvement. We ordered the 2 person meal Canton Regale... they kindly swapped the sweet and sour chicken for the sweet and sour chicken balls (for my daughter), and these were great... chicken breast, and big sizes...not small and all batter and greasy. Probably the best we have ever had. Chop suey isn't for me, but this i loved, full of prawns and crunchy chestnuts. The lid on the rice was bulging as there was so much in there, and a big bag of prawn crackers. All really hot, and fresh. The beef in black bean could have been thicker sauce, but I am trying to be picky, and that is the only thing I can fault. Anyway, meal for 2, but 4 of us sat down to eat and at least enough left over for 2 more people... and all for £18.50... you can't buy it at Asda cheaper... So, come on people... give them another try, and give them some good feedback, and let's help our local buisnesses in these tough and trying times. 5 stars... and will definitely go back again.

Hadn't used them for a long time because previously we found the dishes too salty. Having read recent reviews we decided to try again and ordered through Just Eat. Delivery came on time. Food was all good with generous portions. Barbecue Ribs really meaty and plenty of them. Will definately be going back.

Ordered a vegetarian meal and drive all the way bag toy digs to find it was a chicken dish. Egg fried rice for tea, not impressed.

Ordered delivery. Was quick, hot, fresh and tasty. Loved the sparkly face mask the deliverer wore also!

They don't take card. The food is okay but not the best. The chicken is usually thick slices rather than chunks of chicken. Girl on the front desk is friendly.

A great family run Chinese establishment that has been part of the chandlers ford community for 10+ years. Their food is great and authentic, they do one of the best crispy shredded beef in town. The balance of crispiness to sauce ratio is amazing. I would also recommend their ginger and spring onions dish, it is the perfect dish for a cold day. The service is also stellar here, always greeted with a wide warm smile. Shame that this takeaway only takes cash.

Great service and great food. Amanda and her parents are always happy to make changes to food items and remember your order when you return. A pleasant and happy team serving great food. Just cash only so you will have to use the cash point at Tesco.

Favourite Chinese was shut so went here and would totallly recommend it. Great portion sizes, very tasty and hot!

I live in central London but regularly get a takeaway from here when visiting relatives. I can honestly say this is probably the best Chinese takeaway and really rivals the standard of a restaurant we go to in Soho. The chicken and cashew nuts is especially good. The owners / staff are always very nice too.

Sorry but this was probably the worst Chinese takeaway I've ever had the misfortune of tasting. Certainly the worst in Chandlers Ford (and I've lived here for over 20 years!) II'm no expert but the Sweet n sour Chicken -eeuggh. Chicken is dry and chewy. The sauce, tastes as though it's straight from a jar. Chips - Again, chewy, perhaps re-fried from the day before. Don't waste your money.

Tried once before and said never again, should have stuck to my word. Too salty, just not nice. Most of it ended in the bin. Place only accepts cash too

Good takeaway excellent service and food.

Utilizamos para conseguir nuestra comida para llevar china de una tienda más local, pero sentía que no era tan buena como lo que solía ser. De haber utilizado el Ashdown Oriental por unas cuantas comidas, siguiendo la recomendación de un amigo, hemos estado muy satisfechos con la calidad y el sabor de las comidas, especialmente en vista de los precios razonables. Recomendaría

Realmente hemos luchado para encontrar comida para llevar china en la zona y haber intentado Chandlers Ford todos ellos tengo que decir que este es probablemente el mejor.

Can't wax lyrical about this one as the meals are generally good, but unremarkable. Most recent takeaway featured my three staples from Chinese. a) Deep fried crispy beef - nice but way too sugary, hard to tell the difference between this and the deep fried beef in fruit!, b) Chicken chow mein - very good, just how I like it, c) Chicken curry - as you would expect from a Chinese but no heat whatsoever. No noticeable premium on price for it being in Hiltingbury.

The servics is friendly and the food is tasty and fresh. The beef chilli is especially yummy. It is good value for money.

I've grabbed a takeaway a few times from here when either returning from vacation or just when I haven't felt like cooking. On ordering it was usually available to collect shortly afterwards, as expected and tasty! The sweet and sour soup is usually especially good!

Can't beat the food or the service, always with a smile. Highly recommended.

This takeaway has been trading for years, but if the bbq spare ribs and king prawn fried rice I had last weekend are typical, the food pays lip service to the expectation.
