This place is great and service is always good . I always too get take away too and still taste yummy .

very disapointing, food was okay but slightly cold, by time the main was served after 2 hours in the restaurant. service was not great, no niceties barged past us to get to the table, left with no drinks. One main meal didn't arrive, this was rectified and fiven FOC but just all added to the disapointment of the whole evenng. Staff had their masks round their chins, not sure what the point of that is. Also hands around tops of glasses as they were put on the table, not great at these times.

We drove from Suffolk and booked an hotel for the night for the celebration of our two birthdays. We came to the Peking Garden for our choice of evening meal (as we have done on many occasions) and we were once again delighted with our choice. The food was amazing, the service was wonderful, the ambiance of the restaurant was very good and all other customers seemed to be enjoying it as much as we were. We were so impressed we have booked to return for the Chinese New Year in January. Can’t wait.

Last time I was here I wrote "This will have been my second visit because my grandson likes some of their dishes and they cater to his specific eating requirements" well sadly since that visit they have either changed the chef or he was having a bad night. Whatever as far as the food goes you wouldn't think that it was the same restaurant

We booked a Thursday evening at 7pm. Very friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. We was surprised how busy it got for a Thursday evening. We all picked set menu B @£20.65 a head, we picked the White House wine @£17 which was very good. Food came up piping hot and was what we expected for a Chinese meal. While a Chinese is not cheap, compared with other restaurants, this place was very nice and we would go back in the future.

We popped in here very late on a Sunday and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. The food was amazing, by far the best Chinese I’ve had. The ribs are awesome. If we lived locally we would definitely go there again.

Took my wife for a treat. We both had excellent meals and the service was very good too. Even the after dinner brandy was served properly (warmed glass). Considering the high quality of this restaurant the prices were very reasonable. A very pleasant evening and will visit again.

l paid £4 for a bottle of beer [£8 a pint] and ordered 5 dishes for a grand total of £40. The food was average and l can see why marks and spencer do well with there 2 mains and 2 sides for £10.Will definitely not be returning

Ive eaten here a few times and I love it. the whole restaurant was packed on fathers day. we had the Sunday lunch time buffet, we all enjoyed the food. the food was replenished quickly and was always fresh. all the staff are friendly and helpful. we had to wait a while for the drinks as the bar was very busy.

We visited on Valentine’s Day. The service was slow. The food cold. Took forever for the food to arrive. Staff avoided eye contact in order to avoid serving us. Food clearly bland and traditional Chinese food. We tried their take away afterwards and it was equally terrible - turned up and they hadn’t taken our order in the first place over the phone or just forgotten. They don’t do delivery. They are always understaffed and over seated.

The buffet is well serviced, staff are friendly, quality food, there’s a good atmosphere and very reasonable prices. We love coming here and find the service excellent.

The food is so bland...crispy beef is all crisp and no beef! prawns were soggy and the chicken satay was hard and tasted sour! A total waste of good earned money. If you want a decent takeaway go to the Prosperity in Cranham!

We tried this restaurant for its takeaway food for the first time yesterday, having eaten in on previous occasions and been very satisfied with the food quality. Having taken advise from a staff member that if we required our meal to be ready for collection, on a Saturday evening for 8 pm, we should try to place our order by 7 pm. Our meal was for 4 people and we paid around £42. It was ready for collection at the agreed time and the quality was very good. I would have no problem in using this service again.

Excellent takeaway. Plenty of food and varied. Did not have to wait long, but best to go early, like 6pm. Will return.

Well what a change from Sunday roast

We've been to this restaurant many times and always enjoyed it as it offers vegetarian options - however this time we asked questions about the ingredients used as one of our party was vegan - the staff lacked knowledge and we were totally confused - no itemised bill was provided as requested and we really didn't know what we were paying for. Overall a disappointing experience.

Well firstly, I must say that I am a vegetarian, and so I can only speak for the veggie food, not the meat.

Wow. Food was amazing and so worth ever penny. Service was 100%. The duck was so yummy. All fresh and hot when dished up. So many lovely flavour. Atmosphere was pleasant clean and modern. Would totally recommend. We had a party of 11.

Visited here this evening to pick up a take away. Most of the Chinese restaurants and take away shops are closed in a Monday evening. The service and food we ordered were excellent and the portion sizes were very good. Would definitely come back here. Thank you for a lovely meal.

We came here for my husband’s birthday, the restaurant was busy but this didn’t effect the service at all. Fabulous food, all piping hot. Attentive service. All of our friends thoroughly enjoyed the meal and we all can’t wait to return!

Unfortunately I can’t write a good review for this restaurant although it was highly recommended. It’s second time when we are going for launch and the greeting is: “we are closing at 2pm” and it was 12:55pm so enough time to have lunch.

OK so I worked in Shanghai for 2 years and generally find standard Uk chinese restaurants bland but this is a real exception. Excellent, friendly and attentive service backed by good hot food. I had the dumplings starter which took me right back to China. The mains were generous portions and full of flavour, piping hot and properly cooked. Well done to the team and I hope to be back.

Super-friendly staff, vast menu, terrific service, all served to ensure we will visit again very soon. It was our first visit despite living in the area forever and we cannot believe we've missed this gem. Easily the best Chinese restaurant in Essex.

We ordered take-away from Peking Garden this evening. It was really tasty and lovely and fresh. The portions were a good size and the staff were really friendly when I went to pick it up. Great value for money too, and they have 5/5 for hygiene. Perfect.

We love the Peking Garden and visit often as a couple or with friends and family. The food is excellent especially the soft shell crab. The staff are always polite and take time to chat if they are not too busy. A few people have mentioned the staff in a negative way but remember their English is probably much better than your Mandarin! Some things are lost in translation but we just laugh along! Always a great night out!

The staff in this place were so rude! When I rung up to book I was asked how long I would be because they are not holding the table long and I would have to be off in an hour. We decided to still go despite feeling rushed and unwelcome. When we got there we was sat at a wonky table and asked to move, the waiter grudgingly moves us across to another one whilst sighing and looking like it was such an effort and inconvenience. We was given menus and within the space of 10 minutes we was asked 4 times if we was ready yet, we hadn't even had a chance to look! We then decided to drink the drinks and pay for them and go. When we paid for drinks and said we wasn't going to eat the 'manager' or as he claimed to be, rudely asked ' oh was the menu to expensive for you's then'. RUDE STAFF, PUSHY WAITERS! Never will go back or recommend to anyone.

Popular Chinese in Hornchurch. Visited at start of the Chinese New Year ( although no different to any evening there). Friendly helpful staff with a good menu and reasonably priced drinks. Fresh tasty food and had the sizzling chicken with ginger and onion which was extremely good. The tables are tightly packed and could do with more space ( depends where you sit).

Very disappointed . Went to Peking Garden at 12:00 today, Sunday, for buffet lunch. Turned away as ', most people don't eat until 1:00 pm' . Offered to come back at 1:00 or a la carte, but wanted buffet. Pointed out that on info on front door and online says open at 12:00. Excuse given , ' we want food to be hot for everyone'. Why can't they just be honest and say they don't open until 1:00 now for buffet. So sorry as have always had good food and good service but Izumi's at Brentwood next time!!

We took the kids here on Saturday evening and they had a great time. The food is really good. Perfectly spiced, not too greasy. Service is quick and efficient. Staff are pleasant amd professional but I wouldn't say overly friendly.

I have very high standards when visiting restaurants (look at my other reviews). I read other reviews before I decided to attend and the icing on the cake was the food standards rating which is 5/5. The restaurant is old fashioned - YES, but by whose standards? It's a TRADITIONAL Chinese restaurant, and I think you'll find most Chinese restaurants with such decor (take yourself to China Town if you don't believe me). The walls certainly aren't dirty. My other half and I wanted to go out for dinner last Friday and it was a last minute decision. at 9:30 I called to check it was still o.k to visit and they happily obliged. As soon as we visited the staff were courteous and couldn't do enough to accommodate us. It was fairly quiet as it was so late, there were three other sets of diners. We had crispy aromatic duck, special fried rice, sesame prawn toast, crispy seaweed and beef in Black Bean Sauce. The portions were substantial and everything was just the right amount of food (big portions doesn't necessarily mean good food!). Their house red wine was nice, we didn't have desserts. We got chatting to the waiter who was very interested in the fact we'd just moved to the area, and where we both worked. He was lovely. I really enjoyed the meal and will definitely be back.

First visit to this restaurant. Average food, small portions. The restaurant itself needs updating - dirty walls and carpet. Don't even bother ask any off set meals - total rip off. Ridiculously expensive for what you get! Was fooled by good reviews but very disappointed and will never come back again.

Shared starters of schezuan mixed hors d'œuvre's were really tasty and plentiful. Mains were plain chow mein, fillet peppercorn beef, Kung po chicken and curry sauce. The fillet beef was delicious but the Kung po chicken wasn't as spicy as advertised. The house red was surprisingly good!Lovely, friendly attentive staff that make you feel welcome!

We celebrated my birthday at the Peking Garden in Hornchurch last night. We had a wonderful evening; the food was wonderfully cooked, hot and generous portions;, the staff were very friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was excellent; we weren't rushed and spent a very pleasant evening chatting and eating. We would certainly recommend it, particularly on a weekday evening; last night (Tuesday) there were a quite a few diners but it wasn't overfull. Looking forward to our next visit.

Had a great buffet lunch on Sunday with family. Food was hot, plentiful and absolutely delicious. The staff were really hospitable and welcoming. All in all a lovely lunch.We all said how lovely this place is and will definitely be returning on a regular basis.

Turned up on a very busy Friday evening and was promptly shown a table with no fuss that we hadn't booked.. The staff were unfussed and were very efficient and nothing was a problem for them as the restaurant was certainly very full. seated, menus arrived, drinks ordered and food ordered too. The Chefs in the kitchen must work overtime and delivered lovely food. When you order prawns you get prawns not Shrimp that some restaurants pass off.

We go here often and have never had a bad experience, food is always of a top quality, service and staff are also very good, would highly recommend this place. we were served by Raymond, great waiter and good fun.

Been having a few takeaways from here since I got cheesed off having dire takeaway Chinese in the local area.. Very impressed and as a Veggie absolutely love the mock chicken dishes... very friendly and quick... and will definitely be my regular takeaway from now...

Been here several times before, always had a decent meal, but tonight was awful. From the moment we arrived, we were rushed, our starters came out literally 2 minutes after we had ordered. The worst post was when we questioned one of our dishes, the waitress actually started having a go at us, in front of other tables. Will not go back.

We went to this restaurant but we had not booked, it was very busy but they found us a love,y table for two. The service was very good, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The food was cooked and served very quickly and it was pipping hot and it tasted really good. The portions were very good and we had a small hot plate to keep our food warm. Like most chinesexrestaurant it is not cheap but this restaurant is worth paying the extra money to go to as the atmosphere is good and you feel very relaxed in here.

Last reviewed in 2014 - have found the Sunday Buffet is still a good quality menu. We booked about an hour and a half before and have found 12:45 - 1p.m to be the best time as all the dishes are topped up and it is just before there are queues at the food table. Varied choice, cooked well and good value for money.

I'm visited the Peking Garden last night with my family ,for my daughter birthday was the worst place I'm have been for dinner. Since I'm arriving the door the asked me to help myself with the menu. Before we get table the asked for drinks. The food was horrible !!! the staff didn't now how to explain the menu probably .I'm never come back then the bill was £95.50 was worst this money

We have been to this Chinese restaurant many times and always had a good experience. Last night 11.2.2017 was busy but a good atmosphere. The food arrived, first two courses were fine. The main meal was nothing like the other courses. The waiter asked to clear the full plates of food and asked if everything was OK, we replied noodles too dry and hard, the rice was a starchy mass as we picked up the spoon the whole bowl of rice came out. We were told the items would be taken off the bill. During the night my husband who had eaten the meat dish that was orded, was up with stomach pains and running for the toilet.

Decent food. It is a buffet style for Sunday lunch. Would come again. Plenty of refills and food. Recommended. Good value for money.

Booked at the last minute for later the same evening when we decided to take our son out for a meal for his birthday. We hadn't been in this restaurant for about 20 years and were hoping it would be as we remembered - it was. We'd already decided to have a set menu for the novelty (for my son) of stacks of food arriving and using the lazy susan and there was a good choice of menus with plenty of variety. Not particularly cheap - mixed starters including satay, prawn sesame toast, dim sum, seaweed, followed by duck and pancakes then two main dishes plus rice and stir fried vegetables, tea/coffee was about £24 per head, but all the food was great, served really hot and with sensible rests between courses. Good choice of wines with plenty under £20. Smiley helpful staff. The restaurant was very busy at 8pm on a Saturday night, with lots of families in with younger children, but it had thinned out quite a lot by 10.30.Quite old fashioned inside, there's a fish tank and everything, but it was lovely. We won't leave it so long before we go again.

Always get takeout from here restaurant food at takeaway prices, call 1st though as can get really busy and wait times can be a while.

We love coming to the restaurant. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and food is second to none. We came on New Years Eve, it was very busy but the food and service we still spot on. The vegetarian menu is incredibly varied, my Husband who is not vege even orders from it. I'd definitely recommend the 'vege spare ribs' and 'vege duck' Look forward to our next visit.

Booked for Christmas Eve ,we Arrived and was seated straight away ,ordered drinks ,quickly arrived ,I was driving so I ordered coke ,found this to be flat as two other guests did at out table .Food ordered and took around 15 mins to arrive ,very nice salt and chilli squid and the best crispy shredded beef I've tasted.Duck and pancakes ,we also had lots of other dishes ,all very nice tho . very nice food would definitely recommend and book again

First visit for Sunday Buffet and it will be the last.Three times I went to get some starters and had to keep askingfor the trays to be refilled.It was the same with the mains. The restaurant was not thatbusy so it was not as if the kitchen was rushed.Staff very friendly and helpful. Even brought my starter to thetable as they knew how long I had been waiting.It is good value but I will not go back for Sunday Buffet again

A lovely family restaurant, great to eat in and takeaway. Usually busy as it is fairly big inside. Good service and lovely food. Beers not always cold but the food is generally faultless.

The Peking garden is one of the best local Chinese restaurants in that the quality of food and service is always high.I've eaten both lunch and dinner here and have always been very pleased at the quality of the experience.

We last visited this restaurant about 8 years ago and decided to revisit it. We now remember why we don't dine there. Virtually empty when we arrived but slowly half filled. I wanted a glass of Prosecco but they only sell it by the bottle which was annoying as most restaurants offer Prosecco. We ordered the Seafood Set Menu. The stuffed Crab Claws and Squid in the starter was overcooked and chewy and this set the pattern for the whole of the meal. Overcooked, and one dish so spicy it was inedible. The Duck pancakes were the only good dish in our set menu. The service in the restaurant needs an overhaul too. 15 minutes waiting for coffee to be served just about finished off a very un-memorable meal. Most diners seated near us seemed happy with the food but in Hornchurch you are spoilt for choice so we won't be returning.

This Chinese restaurant has a very good selection of dishes and the set menu is particularly good. Alot of choice almost too difficult to choose, if you are not keen on one of the dishes within the set menu they are more than happy to change it. I really recommend the lobster absolutely delicious and although you get plenty it leaves you wanting more! The one down side is no air conditioning and although not a boiling hot day outside we got extremely uncomfortable. We have had the Sunday buffet a while ago now but that was very good would recommend.

It is a Chinese restaurant but it has some very unusual dishes which make it stand out as above the rest. The staff are very welcoming and will try and give you what you want. The prices are average and the food is very tasty. They also do Sake in half or full bottles, yes it is warmed up for you. Do not over order your quantity of food as there is a lot that comes out of the kitchen for you to eat. They also have limited parking out front, but there is a car park just behind the venue. Overall a pleasure to eat in. Recommend the soft shell crab for a starter, if you have not had this before, it is a whole crab which is in between growing larger, so the shell is soft, hence the name, you do the whole crab shell and all, try it you will not be disappointed. Recommended.

This used to be a fantastic Chinese restaurant but has now gone so downhill. We used to be regulars but haven't been for a couple of years and what a disappointment going there tonight?? The place looked so run down, shabby and in desperate need of a facelift and the food wasn't much better either. We won't be going back!!!!

Visited here for the first time today and will certainly return. The menu has a good selection of dishes and the portions are generous. Staff were friendly and the decor was traditional. 3 adults shared 6 dishes, each of us had a non Alcoholic drink, and the bill was £43. Parking is easy with a few spaces outside and a large public car park behind, just a minute or two to walk there - free after 6pm. Whether a couple or a large group, I would recommend a visit to this restaurant.

Dined here with 4 friends that are vegetarians, I'm a meat eater but wanted to try the veggie dishes.For starter we shared a platter of a selection of dishes that were very nice.For my main I had the veggie chicken curry, vegetable noodles, plain rice and vegetables which were all very good. I just had tiramisu for dessert.I washed it down with a few bottles of Chinese beer.Throughout we received some great service, and the final bill came to less than £25 per head

We very rarely have a takeaway but my grandsons fancied a Chinese and we phoned what we thought would be one of the better Chinese restaurants in Hornchurch. It was a real disappointment the food was either swimming in a ubiquitous gravey or dry the crispy duck wasn't at all crispy and looked and tasted like it was cooked the week before. Overall quite expensive, a rude front of house (manager?) Who thought it funny to take the mikey out of my name. Not a place I would recommend or go to again

I love this place for Sunday lunch buffet. It is great value for money. I have been to a few buffets but none off them meet the quality and amount of different dishes the Peking offers.

Haven't been here for years, and a local couldn't remember as to why, so we decided to give it a go. Upon entering the restaurant could help but to notice how shabby it looked, a near thread bear carpet and tired looking upholstery didn't provide the welcome we had hoped for. Sitting down my backside very nearly fell through the chair (I`m only 9 stone) and my husbands chair was simply falling apart, honestly it was awful. We ordered drinks my husband had a beer and whilst i was looking at the wine list ordered a quick bacardi and coke and a lemonade for my daughter. Both the lemonade and the coke were completely flat, and served by a waiter who really could have made a better effort with him self.We did not wait for for the food, maybe it would have been ok, but from what we had seen so far did not look promising. In very much need of a lick of paint, a new carpet and some furniture along with some waiting staff who don't look like they have slept in their clothes all night.... Sorry to be harsh, but i now know why i did not go back for all those years.

as the restaurant owner knows my father very well, we are always made sure we have good quality food every time we visit. as we usually order on the phone, we have to make the journey through the lanes in the dark to get there but it is always worth it. the food is always hot and fresh, and the staff are very helpful, and the food is always ready when you arrive. thank you very much.

We have only been to this restaurant twice but both times the food has been excellent. The first time we went we ordered the set menu for 2 as we did not know what to order, but the second time we were more adventurous. The chilli soft shell crab was delicious, as was the chilli shredded beef.The service has been great both times and the waiters very friendly and helpful.

We were 11 at dinner and order a combination of set meals for 2 to make a 10 meal order. The variety of food was excellent and plentiful; we could not finish the crispy duck there was so much of it. The fish set meal was excellent with the squid and scallops being paticularly well cooked and flavoursome. What would I change? I found the black bean sauce overly salty and some of the dishes needed to come out on larger platters as the food spilled over the edges when you put the serving spoons in.

Was given a choice of what cuisine I'd like to sample on my birthday & plumped for Chinese. After a brief look at the reviews on here we decided to try The Peking Garden.We were both phased by the very comprehensive menu so agreed on one of the set meals for two plus a couple of other appetisers. Have to say all of the starters were delicious, included in the set meal was chicken & prawn satay, ribs, spring rolls, prawn toast & fried seaweed plus the additional dishes we chose off the main menu - crab claws & fried cantonese dumplings.The next course was crispy duck and pancakes, which was shredded at the table. The hoisin sauce was a little too thick & we could have done with another couple of pancakes but, again, very tasty.I found the atmosphere in the restaurant a little 'odd', there was an air of Mad Hatters tea party about the place. Most of the clientele seemed to know one of the waiters very well and were exchanging pleasantries with him very loudly. He spent more time working on increasing his tip & engaging with his mates then he did actually serving & on one occasion one of his colleagues seemed to take him to task over this. Having said this the level & speed of service was never compromised as the restaurant wasn't too busy but you did feel like you were in the middle of a private party hosted by Raymond on occasions.Back to the food. The mains were a little bland and disappointing. Chicken and prawn in an overly sweet, sickly sauce, sizzling beef in an almost tasteless black bean sauce & mixed vegetables in, what seemed like, instant gravy mix?On a visit to the rear of the restaurant to powder my nose I noticed that this area was quieter and more laid back. We may have enjoyed the experience more if we'd been seated here.The not inconsiderable bill was settled and we left both agreeing that next time we go for a chinese we'll head for Izumi's and get the same of better food for half the price. My partner observed that for another forty quid we could have experienced the amazing dining experience at Alec's in Navestock.So to sum up - loved the starters, didn't love the mains, Raymond or the bill.

This restaurant has been trading for 30 plus years. We go there a couple of times a month, food is always good and the service is excellent. Suitable for small and large parties , enjoyed a number of birthday parties there ! Parking just around the back easy to get to. Late week / weekend strongly recommend booking in advance. Also a very good takeaway service, but no delivery service.

Nice atmosphere with good choice of food. Service is well up to standard. We went midweek but there were still a fair number of diners. Very nice restaurant.

We popped in here in a Sunday; buffet is not usually our thing, but we were in the area and thought we'd give it a try. The restaurant was busy, but we were seated quickly. From our table, we could see the buffet being quickly replenished. We tried the crispy duck and pancakes, smoked chicken, chicken ball, prawn satay, noodles and spare ribs. The ribs were the tastiest. We also tried the chicken satay and the vegetable spring rolls, but they were both bland.Dessert was included, and the options were fruit salad, toffee banana and toffee apple. The toffee fruit was very nice.The restaurant was busy and plates were cleared quickly, and the staff were efficient. Overall, for around £10 a head you can't complain about value.

it wasn't bad, An evening out with friends, their first visit to Peking Garden and it was an enjoyable meal, but not one that left you thinking that you'd be rushing back. Maybe it was our choice of set menu, maybe it was the annoying bloke on the next table, but it just wasn't how I remembered previous visits. That said I won't fault PG and I know we will go back again. The food served is plentiful, more than enough for us, and the price overall was relatively fair. Our bill for 4 with set menus, drinks and desserts was about £140, we didn't flinch when it was handed over. And when you see a full restaurant, time after time, they must be doing something well, and they are. Give it a go, I don't think it will disappoint
