Peking Chinese in Bath and North East Somerset

Went here on Friday evening as it was a treat for my children doing soo well after there school reports. I was very dissatisfied and disappointed the restaurant had no atmosphere the Staff looked sick and tired the food was not FRESH was like it was out of a all you can eat and there was no sound of any cooking or NO smell of cooking everything was reheated and brought to the table soo quickly it couldn’t of been cooked freshly! I ordered the table for 6oclock and was out of there by 7 there was me and my 3 children I will never go back here again!

Kindest people, family run business, it gets busy but that’s very well deserved for the quality and service! Keep coming here for a treat multiple times a month!

My party and I arrived as walk-ins, hoping to enjoy a meal. While I understand that you were fully booked, I was disappointed by the manager’s response when we inquired about availability. Instead of a welcoming or understanding tone, we were met with rudeness, which left us feeling unwelcome. I understand that restaurants can get busy, but I believe a more polite and professional approach would have gone a long way in leaving a positive impression. I hope you will take this feedback into consideration to improve customer service in the future.

En los últimos años, los restaurantes chinos han ido disminuyendo en Bath, ya que otras cocinas del Lejano Oriente se han vuelto mucho más prominentes. Realmente nos apetecía un buen chino de la vieja escuela y reservamos para ir aquí para una comida previa al concierto. Esta visita se produjo años después de nuestra visita anterior, en la misma época del año, y disfrutamos mucho antes. En primer lugar, el menú es extenso y pagaría una visita mucho más tranquila la próxima vez. Tenía excelentes rollos de primavera frescos para empezar y un cerdo dulce y agrio encantador. Mi marido disfrutó de su entrante mixto y pollo Kung Po. Teníamos una buena botella de vino blanco para acompañarlo. El servicio aquí es realmente excelente y rápido, pero un toque muy agradable vino cuando la señora vertió la última botella y un poco de sedimento salió en el vaso final. Era inusual que un vino blanco arrojara sedimentos y ella lo notó de inmediato. Ella se disculpó profusamente y se ofreció a traer otro vaso que mi marido rechazó, pero ella trajo un vaso fresco grande de todos modos! Sin duda volveremos a probar los otros platos de este tentador menú, confiando en que disfrutaremos de una comida sabrosa y un gran servicio amable!

Walking past we dropped in on the off chance of a table, we were lucky to get a table and ordered from the menu. We made some changes like no chilli on one dish and it wasn't a problem. Food came out quickly and was delicious. Shame we left the next day, wherever I visit Bath again it's the first restaurant I'm heading to. Nice staff, requests no issues, food delicious what more would you want.

El menú 1 fue la opción que elegimos y pensamos que era un valor brillante para 4 de nosotros! One of the best Chinese restaurants I have been to. We visited this restaurant a few days ago whilst attending the Bath Christmas market. I looked on Google for any local Chinese restaurants and this one came up and appeared to be quite popular. As you can imagine there were mixed reviews but you get that everywhere. As it was the Christmas Market I decided to book a few weeks in advance to avoid disappointment and I am glad we did as it was busy at the time we arrived. It was quiet by the time we left but it was around 9pm so we could have got in later if we wanted to and were happy to eat at that time. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left the service was fantastic. We were shown to our table immediately and handed the menu. The staff then returned a minute or 2 later to take our drink orders. These arrived promptly and the lager I ordered was poured for me. We already had an idea what we wanted as we had looked at the menu beforehand and we decided on set menu number 1. The reason we chose this is because you get to choose 3 dishes from the menu for the main course whereas the other set menu’s stipulate what you can have. We had not decided what to have for main but the waiter said they could get started with preparing the starters which was a mixed Hors D’oeuvres consisting of the usual items in a Chinese whilst we decide on our main. The waiter returned a couple of minutes later to take our main course choices. The starter arrived a few minutes later and was piping hot, the quantity of food was good and very tasty. We then had crispy duck for our second course which again was piping hot and the duck to pancake ratio was pretty spot on. I have been to some places where you get a load of pancakes and not much duck. We then had our main course and by this time were both starting to get a bit full. We ordered 3 different dishes from the menu and it came with special fried rice. I did wonder if 3 dishes would be enough but with the quantity of food for the starters and the duck for the second course there was plenty. The food in every course was piping hot when it was served and the quantity of food in each dish was very good and just about enough I would say. The staff were very polite and courteous and the service we received was fantastic. I would say it was maybe a little pricey but that is to be expected in a large city and I knew this before I booked in any case. Overall an excellent visit and glad we went here. Already making plans to return to Bath Christmas market again next year and will definitely look to go here again. This resultant definitely gets a thumbs up from me and I would happily recommend it to others and have already done so.

Uno de los mejores restaurantes chinos en los que he estado. Visitamos este restaurante hace unos días mientras asistíamos al mercado de Navidad de Baño. Busqué en Google cualquier restaurante chino local y este apareció y parecía ser bastante popular. Como puedes imaginar, hubo críticas mixtas, pero se obtiene en todas partes. Como era el Mercado de Navidad decidí reservar con unas semanas de antelación para evitar decepciones y me alegro de que lo hicimos ya que estaba ocupado en el momento en que llegamos (7 pm). Estaba tranquilo para cuando nos fuimos, pero eran alrededor de las 9 pm, así que podríamos haber entrado más tarde si queríamos y estábamos felices de comer en ese momento. Desde el momento en que entramos hasta el momento en que dejamos el servicio fue fantástico. Nos mostraron a nuestra mesa inmediatamente y nos dieron el menú. El personal regresó un minuto o 2 más tarde para tomar nuestros pedidos de bebidas. Estos llegaron rápidamente y la cerveza que ordené fue servida para mí. Ya teníamos una idea de lo que queríamos ya que habíamos mirado el menú de antemano y decidimos el menú fijo número 1. La razón por la que elegimos esto es porque puedes elegir 3 platos del menú para el plato principal, mientras que el otro menú estipula lo que puedes tener. No habíamos decidido qué tomar para la entrada principal, pero el camarero dijo que podían comenzar con la preparación de los entrantes, que era un entremés mixto que consistía en los artículos habituales en un chino mientras decidimos sobre nuestra entrada principal. El camarero regresó un par de minutos más tarde para tomar nuestras opciones de platos principales. El entrante llegó unos minutos después y estaba caliente, la cantidad de comida era buena y muy sabrosa. Luego tuvimos pato crujiente para nuestro segundo plato, que de nuevo estaba caliente y la relación pato a panqueque era bastante importante. He estado en algunos lugares donde te dan un montón de tortitas y no mucho pato. Luego tuvimos nuestro plato fuerte y para ese momento ambos estaban empezando a llenarse un poco. Pedimos 3 platos diferentes del menú y vino con arroz frito especial. Me preguntaba si 3 platos serían suficientes pero con la cantidad de comida para los entrantes y el pato para el segundo plato había un montón. La comida en cada plato estaba caliente cuando se sirvió y la cantidad de comida en cada plato era muy buena y casi suficiente diría. El personal era muy amable y cortés y el servicio que recibimos fue fantástico. Yo diría que era tal vez un poco caro, pero eso es de esperar en una gran ciudad y lo sabía antes de reservar en cualquier caso. En general una excelente visita y me alegro de que fuimos aquí. Ya estoy haciendo planes para volver al mercado de Navidad de baño de nuevo el próximo año y sin duda miraré para ir aquí de nuevo. Esta resultante definitivamente me sube un pulgar y lo recomendaría con gusto a otros y ya lo he hecho.

Very poor for a Chinese restaurant, definitely one of the worst I have had (food wise). The food was very very basic - I could have made it better myself (and I can’t cook Chinese). The plate was very small too. I had special fried rice which was £11 and my partner vegetable chow mien which was £11 too. Very very expensive for a Chinese (even a basic meal).the curry sauce was not great either. (And we are from London so used to paying higher prices but this was a joke) The service was good, quick, no complaints or queries. The atmosphere was good, seemed pretty busy (which is a surprise for such a place after tasting the food). Personally, I would not recommend this place at all. There will be plenty of better places (for example we had banana tree restaurant for the same price yesterday). Not sure how the ratings are so high for this place. - it’s up to you but I’d be wary of this place as the food was average and basic at best. (I don’t usually leave reviews in the UK but I had to for this one to make sure everyone is careful of this one).

Overall a nice place to eat. It was clean and food was prepared in a timely fashion. We asked about portion sizes to the lady to enquire if ine rice is enough for 2 people. But, maybe it was due to the language barrier but she seemed to have a very slightly combative manner and told us the rice is suitable for one person. But we found that one rice would maybe been enough for us along with another side. The food itself tasted nice but a little more colour in the dish would be nice. But otherwise we would return again.

Really bad customer service from one lady towards us. Starting from giving us table by saying 'take this table then'. Never in my life experiencing any host talking to customers like that. The lady obviously smiled at everyone; Caucasians except us, asked and talked to other customers very nicely, but harshly put down the cutlery onto our table, and took the chopstick rest from us, but left it on other tables for some reason. The food was averagely good compared to other places, but not worth the money that much. Racist and disrespectful? We come here to eat and purchase not asking for free. Better be treating others equally then. I would rather give 0 star, unfortunately, there is not an option.

Check that they charge you what it says on the menu. Even after they have printed a new price list they try to add a few pounds to the bill. The Yung Chow Chow Mein has no shrimp in it although the menu says it has.

The place to go for authentic chinese cuisine in Bath. Highly recommended.

My birthday meal with my wife. We try to come here at least once a year. Always great food. Attentive service and well worth the cost. Over the years this place has stayed good were many slip. Various options for meals, from fixed to total free choice. I always enjoy my meals here.

So glad we went here. I visited here with my son and we ordered the set menu. Oh my, so much food! We ended up taking the main courses home which the restaurant were more than happy to help with. The staff were so warm and lovely, always there when you needed but not intrusive. I will be back again. Really good quality food, nothing was greasy and portions were big. Very genuine warm family business.

The best Chinese restaurant around, we have been coming here for about 25 years and never had a bad meal. The food is delicious, especially love the deep fried asparagus and the peking ribs , our adult children now love coming too , hidden gem in Bath amongst all the chain restaurants , and the staff are always so lovely

Another truly excellent meal here at Peking . Great welcome , good atmosphere and surely the best Chinese in Bath by a long mark . We all had one of the set Menus - massive plate of mixed Hors d’oeuvre ( spring rolls, sesame toast, seaweed , spare ribs etc ,) followed by superb Peking Duck with pancakes , spring onions, cucumber and sauce . Big choice of main courses all included together with special fried rice - all first class. . Excellent value too, we thought Very attentive service from the John and Team - with Mr Wong Senior still in the background .

We visited recently as part of a birthday weekend celebration. The food was excellent, as was the service. The choice of dishes was wonderful. I had the Dim Sum starters which were delicious. Followed by sizzling king prawns with spring onion & ginger. A real delight! The atmosphere was pleasant and the staff very welcoming and helpful.

Best Chinese food we have ever eaten. Extremely flavorsome, good quantity and excellent service. Chinese is my favorite cuisine, and this was the best. Not cheap, by any means, but well worth it as a treat on holiday.

Can’t express how fabulous the food was, so fresh, flavoursome and perfectly presented Our waitress was busy but paid us full attention. The ribs ( dry) were just delicious , could have eaten them again !!

Phoned to double check something about my order and the man that answered was extremely rude and kept shouting down the phone at me.

Never go there if you have kids I entered and asked for baby chair for my daughter but the man in reception said we don’t have any which is ok for me and I told him to use normal chair and asked him for place to leave my daughter push chair and he replied we got no places to leave it while the restaurant was almost empty. He was very rude in his answers so we decided to leave. Not recommended at all due to way staff deal with customers and level of service

Menu looked promising, but sadly food was to blend, not much taste. Portions small and you had to order the rice separately! We won't go back there again. Menu looked good, but unfortunately the food was quite bland. Very small portions and you had to order rice or nasi/bami separately. We don't go there anymore.

I feel terrible leaving this review because the staff were lovely and the menu and food looked so promising. Unfortunately all the food we ate was so bland and had hardly any flavour. We eat out for Chinese food a lot and had such high hopes for this restaurant but it looks like they have given up on the food and the quality. I hope they can turn this place around because the menu looks absolutely amazing.

An average Chinese restaurant. Nothing spécial.

They sat 7 of us even though they were closing their kitchen in the next 10mins and politely asked us to order fast which we did. The food was fantastic and the service was fast. We couldn't have picked a nicer place to eat

Fabulous meal with friends for Chinese New Year. Very busy but the service was exceptional - I don't think I have ever had more efficient service in any restaurant. Food was really good, we opted for a set menu which was really good. Would definitely return if I come back to Bath.

I ordered chicken chow mein, spring rolls, beef and black bean sauce and egg fried rice. Both of the mains were lacking flavour, I don't believe it was even Chinese. I had to add extra Sriracha sauce and soy sauce. That didn't help. The spring rolls were great. £30 for all of that, I'd rather go to Yum Yum Thai (down the street) where their food actually tastes amazing and it's much cheaper.

I have been craving Chinese food for a while and was not disappointed in coming here. They were very quick in bringing the food (which was delicious!) and the service was great, everyone was very kind and always with a smile. Would definitely go there again.

On our first night in Bath we had dinner at the Peking , the food is very good and typical of a Chinese with all the favourites like aromatic duck , our waiter Alex was excellent ,

I have to say this is the worst ever (Chinese) restaurant I have ever visited in the UK or even beyond. We ordered 1 chicken and 1 veg, the quality of both were way below the average. By looking at the names of the courses in the menu, I couldn't imagine these in the picture would be served. The material used, the combination, the taste, the portion, none of them was proper. It made us feel that only minimum effort was devoted into the courses. We were too disappointed. Moreover, the service level was awful - the waitress gave us whole-time poker face and rudeness. We can feel she was unhappy and impatient about us for no reason by the time we sat down. I will never step into this restaurant again even it is for free.

Fantastic food, lovely hot and tasty. Totally ignore any negative reviews (of which there aren’t many!) and make your own mind up. The staff were happy and friendly, the lady made us feel especially welcome. Any comments about food being bland are in my opinion untrue.

After taking part in glow golf in Victoria Park we decided to eat at Peking Chinese. Four of us opted for Set Menu B which had a great variety and was cooked excellently! The portion sizes were well worth the £34 a head price tag and the service we experienced was excellent - always making sure we had enough tea! I will definitely return with others - a great evening.

Rip off. It was so expensive. £14.95 for a special chow mein. Didn’t even fill me up. £5 for egg fried rice. £3 for curry sauce, looked and tasted more like gravy and very little if it. Chow meim and rice tasted nice. It's still not worth it. Try another place,I wish I did.

Absolutely shocking. Stopped in to get a take out and was shocked at the price. Prawn crackers stale. Sweet and sour chicken balls was £13.95 and was tiny bits of chicken in battle. Spring rolls were ineadable. £41 for fried rice and chicken chow mean and sweet and sour chicken balls and three spring rolls and one curry sauce. £13.95 for chicken balls is totally unexceptable. Horrible Chinese..

Firstly, I’ve always wanted to go to his venue I’ve walked past it so many times on my way to Work and to get the chance to experience it was nothing but breathtaking you are fully emerged in traditional Chinese decor. The food is stunning and well portioned and full of flavour I would highly recommend this place to Everyone

Lovely food. Lovely location, great to spend a dinner in bath here.

We had a very poor experience. The restaurant looks nice and spacious but the food is terribly disappointing. The two main courses we ordered arrived in shallow, relatively narrow plates. Not just that it didn't look nice but one of the dishes' souce was dripping to the table, creating a noticeable mark on the table cloth. The dishes were exceptionally untasty. The meat pieces within felt like gummy, which implies that they were of low quality or terribly mistreated. I would avoid this place.

Starters came out really quick which means they werent fresh and it showed with the chicken satay skewers which were clearly reheated and had that microwave type of crisp to it when you reheat leftovers. Id rather wait for fresh food. The rest of the meal was very below average and is certainly not a good meal out...but the restaurant service was good and attentive and the dining room was clean.

Living in Bath through these inflationary times and having tried many restaurants 100 + restaurants and in the past have paid a lot more for a lot less elsewhere? Excellent Food Great Service and good value for money. Large portions considering it Bath .We reserved a table in advance it was well decorated and the menu was extensive ,food was hot and almost everything we asked for was provided .it was a warm courteous and friendly atmosphere and the serving staff appeared to to go the extra mile especially as it was a busy Saturday Night Dinner 2000 hours and the restaurant was both buzzing with lots of tourists and some with teenage sons and daughters . The experience made it well worth a visit The only downside was the restaurant did offer Decaffeinated coffee which they may wish to consider including on the menu in the future .The 3 course meal averaged out at £33 per person including service Terence

Selected this restaurant based on the reviews, big mistake. Either the reviews are fake or the restaurant has deteriorated over time. Ordered sesame prawn toast, shredded chicken and vegetable spring rolls as starters. All three starters were delivered to the table together in 5 minutes and they didn’t look good. Prawn toast appeared to have been refried, chicken had so much sugar attached that it looked awful. After tasting just one piece each of these, we decided to leave and go elsewhere for dinner. Paid £38 for 2 glasses of wine that we did not drink and starters that we did not eat. The striking thing is that the restaurant was least concerned and did not bothered to ask as to what it was that we did not like about the food, must have happened few times.

Once a firm favourite, disappointed again. We arrived at 13:20, we were told to order straight away because the kitchen was about to close. Ordered, soft shell crab, we received one small crab, cut in half and smoked shredded chicken, very small portion. I asked for crispy duck, pancakes etc. as a second course, no it had to come with the starters due to kitchen closing! The crispy part were the pancakes, that broke on folding! Sizzling Canton beef and egg fried rice followed, quickly, and we were asked to order pud straight away, which we did not. Small beer, bottle of Pinot Grigio, small sparkling water, £103. Portions now about half the size that they used to be, and a cold room. TOLD TO LEAVE AT EXACTLY 14:00!! Not good.

We ordered takeaway from Peking, ordered 2 starters 2 mains a rice and noodles. Came to over £60. Had high hopes based on the price. Food arrived quickly and hot but that on its own isn’t worth £60. Quality of the ingredients was cheap particularly the beef and chicken, some of it was over cooked which must have been a challenge given how quick it arrived (probably precooked). Disappointing

Good value for money lunchtime 2 course deal. Food tasty, served quickly, service sharp and friendly. Recommended the honey roast pork and mushroom curry.

My family and myself have been going to the Peking Chinese restaurant for many many years and always received really high-quality food served by very friendly helpful people I've been to many Chinese restaurants but this one tops the rest well worth a visit Chris

I am always a bit hesitant with Chinese restaurant, but this one was perfect . Inside it looks nice and clean. The persons who work there, are very friendly , observant and have a good eye for detail. Food was very good. If I would live in Bath, this would be one I would visit regularly. Thanks.

Tasty food, good service, great VFM. Had the set meal for two, all served hot & tasty & with a smile. Exactly the right timings between courses. Overall a very good experience, highly recommended.

Not impressed at all really... ordered from ubereats and it was definitely on the more expensive side for a Chinese takeaway (although I'm more familiar with Bristol than Bath prices). Thought that would be reflected in the portion size and quality but no... disappointing. Pictured are the salt and chilli king prawns which actually were nice but did look very sad for £10
