Peking Chef in Waltham Forest

Experience not to be repeated, perhaps an off-night, service shoddy, bland food and a sense that tomorrow may hold tummy issues.

Albeit the setting was a little tied the food and service were excellent. We opted for the shared mixed platter which amply fed the three of us. We followed this with Peking duck was excellent. A large portion beautifully cooked. I had as the Singapore Vermicelli noodles as a main which was a meal in itself. It was full of flavour and texture. A definite return trip.

Booked a table of 10 for an anniversary celebration, with 3 generations of family including 3 young kids. The staff were extremely welcoming and accommodating. Food was delicious and served in a timely manner. Even though it was a Sunday evening we did not feel rushed. There is a small areas at the back where the kids could play. They brought complimentary dessert for my parents and ice cream for the kids. They even gifted my parents a box of chocolates. All in all a great evening - we have left with lovely memories!

Just finished one of the best Chinese meals we've had in years: spicy, rich, not greasy - wonderful. Peking Chef is usually good, but tonight was superb.

We moved to Walthamstow in London in 2008 and were delighted to discover Peking Chef. We have been dining in and ordering takeaways continuously ever since. We've been to Chinese restaurants in many cities and this one is up to the standards of any good Chinese restaurant. Mrs. Lee is the kindest, most personable proprietor and her staff are always friendly too We brought friends - who were visiting from the US - in recently and we ate at the restaurant and tried new menu items we've never tried before and we were all impressed and happy.

We had a lovely take away from Peking Chef a couple of weeks ago, though it took two hours to arrive. It’ll be a while until we can try them again though has they have been closed by a local authority hygiene prohibition notice - see photo.

Best Chinese for miles! Order from here and you won’t order Chinese from anywhere else!

Wrong item delivered and when i contacted the restaurant they said they would send the correct dish out - Over 1 hour later still no replacement

The food was cold. I live 3 mins from restaurant. When I call restaurant no help was offered. It is disappointing to say the least. I will never order from this place again. Poor quality food .

Awful experience. I don’t often write reviews but Peking Chef Ruined my Saturday night. I live locally and have ordered from them four times before. The first three times were fine. On the fourth occasion, I ordered my food at 6:30pm. It was due to arrive before 8pm. At 8pm I chased Just Eat and was told it would be delivered at 8:25pm, two hours after ordering. It got to 9pm the food still had not arrived. I rang the restaurant three times between 8pm and 9pm and no one answered. The food eventually arrived 2.5 hours after ordering it at just after 9pm, and it was cold. It wasn’t even lukewarm but was stone cold so I presume it had been sat around for over an hour. I finally got through to the restaurant at around 9:30pm. I asked to speak to the manager to seek a refund but she refused to speak to me. The assistant said she could not do anything as she did not have authority to give me a full refund. She offered me 25% off but I explained that no customer should expect to pay 75% for a meal that was extremely late and cold. She said the manager would call me back. I called an hour later and the manager still refused to speak to me. I explained that they clearly do not have respect for their customers if they deliver food an hour late, 2.5 hours after being ordered and it was delivered cold. I was told the manger would call me back. Of course, four days later, she still hasn’t. I could have accepted an apology, and that this was a once off as we have ordered in the past and it’s been fine. I may have even ordered again in the future if they explained they were having a bad day and offered to refund me. However, the fact that the manager simply refused to deal with my complaint or offer a refund is in my view extremely poor customer service. So essentially, if you are unlucky enough to have a similar experience to me, you can be rest assured that Peking Chef will do nothing about it.

My food too long to come the chips and rice was spill out in the bag, food was cold I had to put everything in the microwave very bad experience would not be ordering from here again a very disappointed waste of my money, but I had to feed the kids as they was hungry and really looking forward to their Meal. I am very unhappier if I would have known would be that bad I won't have ordered it like I said a waste of my money never again.

Amazing takeaway a big yes. we lovedddd every dish. best Chinese takeaway in e17!! Tasty sweet and sour chicken, big portions and free prawn crackers.

The Singapore fried rice tasted horrible, too oily, was not impressed at all.

Food was absolutely appalling. Rice had no taste, noodles were undercooked, duck tasted horrible, the ribs and satay chicken were put in the same container so the satay and bbq sauce mixed into a horrid mess, the beef was grey, the prawn toast potions are disgustingly small and everything was greasy. Worst Chinese I've ever had, unbelievably disappointed.

Preordered my food. It didn't arrive. I called 20 mins after to check and the lady, whilst polite lied and said the food was out already. 20 mins later still no food. I called back and was told "it was out with the driver and she would call them" (I didn't know just eat delivered food by cabbie. Which by the way didn't wear a mask and didn't socially distance at all). Anyway 5 mins later the food arrived. It was an OILY MESS. They had clearly forgotten and then rushed it through with no care. I wont order again. Note to all. Never pay for food upfront. Only pay cash on delivery. You with you right to cancel if they fail to deliver on time.

The food was bad The ribs were dry and tough The chicken satay was out of date and smelled old amd frousy I ordered a platter for two people and barely enough for one with one piece of sesame toast cut in half and was stale. The food seemed like reheated left overs i woke up unwell and very unsatisfied. The chicken balls were fine

The satay was fizzy in a fermented way and poor quality Beef was gunky Rice tasted ok as was the duck meat in the pancake. Overall a poor experience we won't repeat.

Nice Food, but lacked the wow factor, not much effort was made to keep the crispy things crispy. I realise it might be keep to the food hot, but to be honest most of the time take away food needs a re-heat anyway.

Food was disgusting, special fried rice was liked boiled rice, barbecue sauce in ribs was disgusting, chicken curry filled with onions hardly any chicken only good thing was the prawn crackers, total waste of money will never order from here again

Soup was ok, Duck was dry, noodles were okay, it was nothing special so won’t be buying from here again.

Food was poor quality, delivered cold and was pretty tasteless and greasy. Wouldn’t order again.

set meal A1 was delicious and good value. Singaspore style vermicelli were quite tasty and spicy.

This was our favourite local Chinese take away but our last few orders have been below the standard we were used to. Not sure if they've changed their chef but the dishes were not as tasty and quite bland. Delivery is very fast though and fresh. However, with this particular order, one of the dishes was wrong and they called soon after offering to send out the correct one, so customer service is good. Still, don't think we will be ordering again which is a shame.

I have been a regular customer of Peking Chef for several years, mainly for takeaway (plus I did eat in a few times). But unfortunately I will now be looking elsewhere for Chinese food. Until this year their food and service had been great and I was a happy customer. But during this past year their standards have continued to decline. There have been items missing from my orders on at least 2 occasions, which they resolved promptly so I let it pass. But my most recent order was a dealbreaker: not only were two of the dishes unusually too salty but I found an extremely long black human hair in one of the dishes, which is unacceptable.

Food is usually very good, but delivery time lets them down. Can be anywhere between 20 and 90 minutes and can require calls to chase. Disappointing response to complaints by both restaurant and JustEat (although that’s no surprise from JustTakeTheMoney).

The starters were very small and portion sizes weren’t good.

They delivered the order on time originally but sadly they gave us the wrong order which I was annoyed about. I called straight away and they told me they would make us a new order which I was annoyed that I had to wait again. The food arrived and I can tell it was not a new fresh order and they had went to back to where ever they delivered it to originally to pick it back up. The meal was barely hot the starter was all soggy. What is even worse is that they they took back the wrong order that was delivered to us and I had told the driver that my partner had actually open and picked at the food as she thought it was what I had ordered. Sad to think about where that went to! Really bad practice... especially during covid. They should not be accepting food back when it has been left with the customer. Contacted JustEat about this and they just said leave them a review and there is nothing they can do about it. Classic customer service. I really should not even had been charge for this poor service and food! I will not be ordering from here ever again!!!

The rice was tasted old and mushy. The Hofan lacked flavour and was slimy. I wouldn't order from here again

The restaurant appears to have changed their menu so it is limited. This has been my favourite Chinese takeaway so I was disappointed with their food this time especially the chicken curry which tasted bland and was full of mushrooms!

Food wasn't the freshest, some dishes tasetd stale (spring rolls, prawn crackers, chips & prawn toast) But dishes were tasty enough.

Everything tasted bland and slimy, I same dishes before but unsure how they managed to ruin these also asked for chopsticks and they weren't included...

Delicious, best Chinese in the area

Missing items then when I called them after much persuasion they agreed to send out a FULL NEW order hot. Then 30 mins later our missing item came no apology and we had to eat it cold.

Such good food! Not just the best in the area, but the best I’ve ever had. Really flavoursome food and good sized portions. Can’t recommend enough!!

I ordered and waited for three hours for a delivery to arrive, I was promised at various times that is was on its way, late, it had been delivered (Twice). I finally gave up and got a kebab. If I were you try Gokyuzu in Walthamstow - always deliver/quality food.

Excellent quality of food, always consistent. They forgot to send 1 item but sent it soon after they were notified, because of their quality of food & great customer service, I cannot mark them down. This is by far the best takeaway we have had in a long time, really happy that we discovered this restaurant recently.

I personaly didn't like it but my boyfriend loved it. The rice could be better quality or better seasoned also pricey for the rice especially for that quality. I would say its an avarge chinese food.

Great food! Everything was full of flavour and fresh. First time ordering from here, looking forward to our future orders if they are all as good as we had today.

Food was very good, but I asked not to have the prawn crackers and have more sweet and sour sauce instead, but I just got these crackers (which I don’t eat).

The food is delicious and the portions are quite large as well. Unlike with other restaurants where a portion of prawn noodles only has a couple of prawns, the portions here are very well balanced between meat, vegetables, sauce and rice/noodles, as you get a bit of each with every bite. Meals have surprising flavours as well, probably coming from a very smart spice choice. In terms of service, I have requested a change in one of the dishes and the restaurant has fulfilled it. Food arrived early and was piping hot. This is now by far my favourite Chinese restaurant.

Great local Chinese. Lady who runs it is fun and funny, always smiling. I sometimes eat in, today I collected - bought a bottle of beer, perused the menu - usually order mostly the same stuff and pick a new dish. Good advice about dishes better fresh than taken away. Get 10% discount for collection. Which is basically a free beer! My young children love it here too.

Peking Chef seems to have gone downhill in the past year- the portions are smaller and the food isn’t as good. Used to be our go-to and recommended Chinese takeaway but will try another for our next order.

Sadly the food was very late. The restaurant we're unhelpful when contacted telling us that the food was on its way 45 mins before it actually arrived. The delivery driver was dismissive - no apology merely a "if it's cold I'll take it back with me... " Terrible service evasive communication and not an apology in sight

I had chicken noodles on a Sunday afternoon. The portion was generous and tasty. The restaurant is quiet, cozy and not pretentious. The young gentleman at the reception was super helpful, polite and efficient. Amazing customer service. Definetely recommended!

Went on a Sunday lunchtime. Mixed starter, good satay chicken, plump pawn toast, crispy seaweed, BBQ ribs a little chewy and the veg spring rolls something and nothing. Thai fishcakes also good. Mains of sweet and sour pork, excellent, special fried rice, very generous portion. And Thai 'style' green curry is just that, very flavoursome, but note the 'style' in the menu description.But, overall, recommended. Walthamstow seems to lack a decent Chinese. But we would come back, and they deliver! At last a decent Chinese takeaway.Cost for 2, Inc a coke & tip, £15.00 a head.

Amo este restaurante He estado yendo por 30 años. Ha sido consistentemente grandioso todo ese tiempo. La señora que lo dirige es una mujer tan agradable y su personal siempre es amable y eficiente. También recibimos comida para llevar y nunca llegan tarde. Me gusta especialmente el pato de Pekín y los pequeños panqueques. También hacen un muy buen aperitivo mixto de hors d'ouevres.

Really enjoyed my first order from Peking Chef. Quality Chinese food, reasonably priced, served quickly and hot. A+

Pretty average, lacking in taste

Didn’t deliver all the items, so had to wait an hour on top of the hour and 15 minutes of the first part of the delivery. Food quality is poor. Chicken and cashews had MUSHROOMS in it , which doesn’t say on a menu and I don’t eat then. And some very weird,nasty brown sauce which made dish uneatable. Egg fried rice is just a boiled rice with added egg. And spring rolls had something like potatoes in it. Only delivery girls were polite, that’s all that’s good I can say about this place.

Order was immediately flagged as running late, and delivery was late on the running late - it took nearly two hours to deliver four dishes. Food was far too salty, and full of MSG.

Solid Chinese food of a decent quality. Crispy chilli beef lived up to its name, with the duck and rice meal box being tasty, especially with a bit of curry sauce to jazz up the rice. Think I have found my new local, as this is the first place to impress me since moving to Walthamstow. Will order again and do recommend.
