Rediculously rude and racist!!! There were two group of people, us and another group. They came up to only us Asians saying to leave as soon as possible in a very rude way in Chinese, not to the other group ( one friend of us knows Chinese and it was almost time for them to close up ). Then my friends paid one of them in cash and a girl of theirs saw it too. But when we came out, they suspiciously kept asking if we paid or not and the man we paid and the girl did not even say much about it ( the man said he does not remember)!!!!! How rude and how arrogant of them to treat the customers like that?!??!? I have never given a review to a restaurant but this nasty one deserves one for sure! Never coming back and quite a surprise there could be a place like this in Birmingham! Such a disgrace to the city!

I haven’t really posted a review before (apart from a ridiculously disappointing one for years ago) but I wanted to give my opinion amongst the bad press this place has had. Please note that this is the first time I’ve been and so don’t have the memories and nostalgia of it before COVID. Yep, the service was blunt but efficient and I did get a couple of smiles from the people working there. It went from empty to full in the course of about 10 minutes but the delivery of food didn’t falter. Talking of food - Wow! I’ve eaten in a lot of amazing restaurants around the world, yadda yadda… but this was incredible! £14 got me roast duck, chicken and some sublimely crispy pork. I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t have the piglet but that pork!! The duck and chicken was tender and not in the slightest bit dry. The rice was not mushy and had just the right stickiness to pick up - plus, a bit of greens to make it feel 1% healthy (who would come here for anything else?!). But, that pork!!! Next time, and there will be a next time, I may just double-down on the pork and I will die a fatty, happy death. As I let the lady know: 那是我吃过的最好的一餐——我吃了很多食物!

There isn't many places left in Birmingham chinatown that serve you a quick cheap meal as chinatown has halved in size. This little cafe is pretty much as traditional and simple as it gets. We visited for lunch. Inside is a basic cafe style. Staff were pleasant and efficient. We took a table and the waitress brought our menus over, and then returned a little while later to take our order. We ordered the selection of bbq meats and rice. This didn't take too long to come out at all. It was a case of scoop of rice, get the meats off the hanging hook and chop up some portions for us Food tasted great. The only downfall, was that there wasn't much duck or chicken meat. The portion size was fine, but there was more bone to meat ratio.

I used to travel 30 plus miles to eat here. It was always the highlight of my visit to Birmingham. The food was cheap and of great authentic quality even if the service was almost comically bad. The last time my family and I went there before Covid, the food was nice but a bit cold. Ok, so they are having a bad day. I took my family today and we were super excited as we hadn’t been for two years. We sat there for about 15 minutes before being told we had to order at the counter and pay in advance. I’d seen other people pay as they left so that annoyed me a bit. When the food arrived it looked nice. My wife and I ordered mixed meat and rice. The duck was so cold it had jelly on it from the juices solidifying and we couldn’t eat it. I didn’t complain as with service like that, what’s the point? I’m gutted and will have to find a new gem to go to for our Chinese food in Birmingham 😔

So I went here with my boyfriend, not really know what to expect because of the wide range of reviews - but we got excellent food and an authentic experience. If you’re going here expecting table service, servers asking you how your meal is going etc, go somewhere else. This place is a pick your own seat, go up to order and wait kind of place. We ordered our food, pointed to where we were sitting, and then waited. Can’t have been more than 15 minutes before our food was plonked down by a lovely lady, who quickly ran away after and we didn’t see again. Honestly, even though it’s not exactly got 5* service, the food is absolutely delicious, speedy and not badly priced! I would most definitely eat there again, as the portions were a good size too!

I went here for lunch as they serve a dish that's a personal favourite--aubergine with pork mince and salted fish. They said cash only when I ordered, but there was no sign advising people as such on the window, so I had to leave, get cash, and come back, at which point my table had been taken by someone else. When I requested tap water, I was told there was none, though it is a legal requirement to provide it. The service was cursory at best, and the food was disappointing--hardly any aubergine (a third of the amount compared to places I've had it elsewhere), the pork had a bad flavour, and it was on the greasy side. I won't be going back.

This restaurant is my 2nd option in Birmingham since it is located very close (just across from Ibis Birmingham New Street; in a small alley). I decided to visit this restaurant twice during my 9 days stay in Birmingham. To be honest, I found their food quality last year was slightly better than the ones I had this year. For this reason, I would give them a 3 stars' rating this time. During both visits, I was there by myself and I didn't have any chance to try different dishes as I did last year. Therefore, I could not comment further on their overall food quality. However, based on my both visits, I would comfortably say that 3 stars would be a fair judgement for the food quality they were serving last month. Pricewise, they are 15~30% cheaper than the ones served in the nearby Chung Ying.

Read the reviews and decided to try it. We were not disappointed and wished we lived nearer to frequent this establishment. The tea was lukewarm and not quite the Jasmin we are used to. However, the food was delicious. Knowing what to order might prove difficult as English is not their first language so communication is difficult. We chose crispy duck in lemon sauce, which was delicious, Pork and rice, and King Prawn with water chestnuts and bamboo shoots. Everything tends to come with rice as if your ordering a meal for one, but can be ordered separately. I would order the 3/4 meat roast, when I next return, as that looked scrumptious, and the duck again!

Came here on a weekday with three friends. Seeing the restaurant full of Chinese customers was a good initial sign but this does come with some limitations. The service is non-existent. Upon entering the restaurant you may be looked at by one of the staff but it took a lot of time to be allocated a table. The staff also did not speak any English, so you just have to point at what you want and hope she understands (one of my friend's orders was slightly wrong). However, as soon as you order, the food comes within five minutes, which is great. The food itself is very good. The roast meats are very succulent and have all just been cooked. They have an excellent glaze and plenty of flavour, no additional sauces should be necessary. It may be worth noting that the meats themselves may arrive lukewarm / almost cold. I have experienced this before in a Chinese restaurant so was not taken aback, but the same cannot be said for my friends who were very confused. The hot rice re-warms the meat. Overall, a nice little place that you can return to as soon as you know what you like! I paid around £8 for a 3 meat roast with rice.

I’ve eaten here a number of times and found the food to be either really good to just ok. My sister and I were in town and I told her about this restaurant. I warned her it was a no frills joint but the food was reasonable. OK, we were the wrong side of 9pm when we arrived but nonetheless we were seated and handed menus. The place had only Chinese clientele who all had lovely looking generous dishes scattered all over their tables. We were served by an older woman who was stern, expressionless and soooo hard to understand. We ordered the spare ribs and satay meats as a starter and two curries and fried rice for mains. The ribs and the satay arrived so did one curry with BOILED rice all at the same time. The ribs were all bones and the small amount of meat we could gnaw at was dry as old boots. We never did get the second main dish but by then I was just fed up and embarrassed for suggesting the place and just wanted to leave. Won’t bother again.

I normally come here for their char siu which is better than a lot of other places I have eaten. Though there were a couple of times when it was dry. What has compelled me to write a review today is their service. Went with my family one time and I ordered a tea to go with my meal. When the tea came, it was lukewarm at best. I asked the waitress if she could exchange it for another tea (prefably hot), and she looked at us a bit surprised, her reply was 'shall I microwave it for you'. I was taken aback a bit, and asked if she could make a new one. Again she asked if she should microwave it and this went back and forth a little until I declined the offer. She took it anyway and came back a moment later with a similar temperature tea. Gave up after that. The service here has never been that great, but that was just laughable. Me and my partner still laugh at it whenever we think back.

For those that like fine dining, this is not the place to go. This is the Chinese equivalent to a greasy spoon café. It's no frills. It's actually also largely fast food - most people going there will eat some variation of a three roast rice. So when you have greasy spoon meets fast food, you're not going to have a waiter talking to you pleasantly for 15 minutes etc. It's all about high turnover, generous portions, good value food that's fresh and you're not paying for all the frills.Without doubt, in Birmingham, this is the best value 3 roast rice destination to go to. I often go here when my wife goes to the hairdresser opposite. It has a reputation for being very cheap but very tasty and I agree entirely. The rice and meat portions are very generous compared to the other restaurants selling similar food.In terms of taste, the way the meat is marinated is different at different restaurants. Some like the char sui (barbeque pork) to be more sweet, others like it more salty etc. The taste is a little different to other places, but very nice. The crackling on the roast pork is excellent.Overall, extremely recommended for people wanting to get a cheap quick no frill bite to eat. If treating your partner to something more luxurious, you might want to go elsewhere (think greasy spoon as to whether to go or no go in your situation with whomever you're with). Whilst the cost of a three roast rice has increased over the years (cheaper to get a 2 roast) there is the view from a lot of people that having a roast and rice here is better than going for a McDonalds and I agree entirely.Big thumbs up!

Visited for early evening supper. I was attracted by the fact that there were so many Chinese people eating there. From the outside it doesn't stand out and, being tucked away down a side alley, unless you happen across it like I did, you'd need to know it was there. It was busy even at 6pm and when I left at 7 people were waiting for tables to become available. Service is fairly rushed and surly but, nice touch, they bring you a mug of green tea immediately. I may be wrong, but I don't think it is licensed to sell alcohol. But there again, this isn't a destination restaurant. You'd go there for a simple but delicious meal before heading off to the main purpose of your night. It hasn't got the luxury and sophistication of its more illustrious neighbours. I had a quick two courses. Starting with one of the best hot and sour soups I've ever had, and followed by a simple but delicious plate of chicken and salt fish fried rice. This cost just ten pounds! I'll come back here again and look forward to sampling some of their wonderful-looking meats. I'd recommend the place to anyone who appreciates an authentic Chinese meal. Just don't expect a smile with your service! To be honest, if the food wasn't so good it would only merit a score of 2 or 3.

This is one of those places that’s going to split opinion. If you’re about ambiance, décor and service, just keep walking and open your wallet a little wider at one of the other very good spots in the area, as we’re talking a canteen style approach of formica tables, mismatched crockery and cosying up at busy times. However, if you’re not bothered about the surrounding (which despite being basic are very clean) and you want authentic, cheap, tasty food, sit down, nab some tea and enjoy. Great selection of roast meats in particular, with the 3 roast Ho Fun being my recommendation.I grew up in Manchester with Rice and Three being a staple and little canteen cafes are amazing if you can find a good one like this. But if you like roast meat you won't be looking up from your plate much and at these prices you can afford to go for a drink afterwards. I ordered the 3 meat roast and the rest of my family the 4 meat. I didn't miss the chicken. Duck and 2 sorts of pork works for me. So to be clear - ambiance, have a nice day service, cocktails, vegetarians - no. Good rice, excellent meat and low prices - oh yes.

Have been popping in on a Saturday for lunch. I usually have chicken with green peppers with black bean sauce with egg fried rice. It is usually quite good, sometimes a bit watery and under spiced . Today I decided to have a change and opted for roast duck instead. It was awful,a nasty pale colour, fatty and not tasty at all. On top of that there was very little sauce. I complained and they brought a small bowl of black bean sauce to my table, which was fine until I got the bill and was charged £2.50 for it!Not impressed and will not be returning . Plenty of others around the area.

We went there for a bit of a quick dinner. When we got there there was no nice warm greeting at all we was just told to seat. I had notice before that they didn't have a lot of vegetarian veg options for their meals so I asked for the fried vegetables and egg fried rice and was basically made to feel like I was wrong for ordering two sides when there was barely any vegetarian options. I did explain I was a vegetarian but she didn't seem to get that. We were served our food but it was brilliant I didn't think. Filling and warm but it just wasn't as good as the China town noodle bar next door. We only went because that one was closed. Shame really. I just was made to feel like I was weird for having vegetables. I won't be going there again.

(8 Year Old Girl Reviewing this)Peach Garden is an amazing place to eat for families and friends. We went there for a dinner on New Years day and the food was really nice.I ordered prawn ho fun and it was fantastic, it had lots of king prawns in it (over 10) and mushrooms and it tasted great. Another thing i ordered for a drink was soya milk and it tasted good.My dad ordered a 3 roast meat with rice and i tried it and it was up to it's standard. Brilliant. This restaurant is a wonderful place for Chinese Asian food and has great service too. This place is sure to be a restaurant that you can count on.Brilliant food. (Dad's Review)You're always guaranteed a hearty meal here at Peach Garden. I have been coming here since over 15 years ago, when it was a small establishment. Now it has grown in popularity and you will always leave with a hearty meal.If you're looking for a place where you expect a clean and great service......... this is not for you..... however if you want a genuine Chinese meal how the Chinese like it without being fussed about the cleanliness and dim decor, this is definately the place to come to.With the price that you pay, you would be struggling to find another place in this part of town where portions are matched........ and tastes are second to none.Recent times when we have come here, we have found lots of non Chinese coming along and trying this place out, most with smiles of satisfaction on their faces. The staff are not michelin starred trained, but can be understood with a bit of patience and determination. This place will long to be part of Chinatown, with or without you.

A very basic café-style restaurant. The service was abrupt, bordering on rude. The kitchen area is open-plan, and so the noise of cooking and loudly-chattering staff encroaches on the dining area. There is no music (not necessarily a bad thing) and very little atmosphere. The food was extremely bland and the roast meat was very fatty indeed. However, they must be doing something right as the place was full. Food is served very promptly and it is very cheap (around £15 for two main courses and drinks). OK for a quick meal while shopping, but would not recommend as part of a night out.

If you want egg fried rice it's an extra 50p, cheap and cheerful and the portion sizes are just right I'd say for a lunchtime meal. For four people the total was £24! That's for 2x egg fried rice (side portions as large as entire meal for couple of quid each) 2x sweet sour chicken and rice, 1x tofu and fried rice. Oh and 4x drinks!Service was incredible, we were seated and served within minutes, no wait time.

Being foodies we were really looking forward to a pre theatre meal in Birminghams Chinatown. We had done our research and ordered the well recommended 3 & 4 roast rice. We were served really quickly but just did not enjoy the meal. My first mouthful of the duck was full of small bones as was some of the pork. The crispy pork was merely fat with a not very crisp piece of crackling. I am happy to concede that this was a very popular cafe with visitors and locals alike. From a distance the dishes looked good and interesting. However just because the place was buzzing cannot hide the fact that there is nothing interesting about the room, the tables are basic, the plates plastic, no music or pictures on the wall, the staff busy and uncommunicative and although I knew the food was not going to be steaming hot I prefer it served at least warm.So without good food. Sadly not a lot going for it.

Been here 6 years, never let me down, though it is small with no decoration, they always provide good food and service, which is really a hard job for a restaurant.Three roast or mixed roast (duck and pork) is my favourate dish, only at around £8, it is a very good deal.I think what makes their dish distinct is because the duck they use and always cure the meat for a long time, so the duck is fatty and flavourous.Staff are very friendly each time we visit, so 5 star with no hesistance, personally I think this is the best HK style restaurant in the UK.

One of my favourite places to eat in Birmingham down to the great tasting food - wholeheartedly recommend the roast meats as their signature dish - succulent pieces of cold roasted pork, chicken and duck meats - although there is an extensive range of other dishes and drinks to choose from. Other than the roast meats with rice, we also ordered the house special mixed meat, seafood and vegetable rice noodle dish (pronounced 'jaap-woohay-hor-fun in Cantonese) - fresh noodles in a rich thick broth sauce. We were also treated to a refreshing cup of chinese tea for free with the meal which is a bonus.Portions are on the bigger side and prices are great for what you are getting. Expect to pay around £9-£12 per person including a drink. Or for a lighter meal sharing a dish (remember - big portions), this can go to as low as £6-£9The staff are friendly, attentive and the place is generally lively.A bit of advice however - this is a restaurant primarily catering for Chinese people - many staff speak limited English and the food is for the Chinese palate and casual dining. Having an understanding of Cantonese cuisine and how it should be served is important as this is a big hurdle for diners unaccustomed to this style. Definitely needed to explain a lot to friends whom it was their first time here!Seating is a little packed so may not be suitable for families with young children or people looking for long relaxing meals but fine for a quick catch up and refueling. But with all this in mind, you will not be dissapointed - by far one of the best places to eat in Birmingham!

The food was amazing, particularly at the price. The char sui pork was particularly good. In terms of decor there is none! it is like sitting in a waiting room. The food more than makes up for the lack of ambiance. The menu is extensive and includes some items that I don't think I would be brave enough to try! However plenty of more regular stuff to try when I return. My meal came to £11 so valuewise it isn't in the expensive bracket!

Peach Garden feels like a cafe and the food is as I would imagine Chinese cafe food (I lived in Taiwan and it reminded me a little of there). The waitress was very friendly, but spoke virtually no English. Luckily, I had read other reviews so knew we wanted a 'Triple roast' (excellent) and then I suddenly decided I wanted to try Mapo Tofu as I had heard of it, but never had it. I couldn't see it on the menu, but the waitress pointed to someone eating it. It was very tasty. The place was nearly full and we were the only non Asians there. Not fine dining, but prefect for a quick lunch or evening meal.

I saw this place reviewed under “Top 10 budget restaurants and cafes in Birmingham” (Guardian, 24 March 2015). I prefer those little gems so often hidden down the side streets and cul-de-sacs; this is one such gem.The window display was enticing and the welcome both warm and homely. We followed the advice and chose the triple roast, a house version of Cantonese pork belly, duck and char siu pork over rice; we were not disappointed, the crackling was amazing. A proper feast for £7:20.Unpretentious, no frills, authentic café-style dining served with a smile. Big on flavours and low on price; we will be back to explore the menu further. Well worth a visit.

Absolutely love this place! Been here quite a few time before. With £7.50 you have a lovely big portion of rice with 3 types of meat, while 2 sets of small salmon sushi already cost £8 in Itsu. My favourite is roasted duck, pork chop and cha xiu. You can really fill your stomach with this only. Last time, we also ordered half a roast duck, a dish of veg in garlic sauce and mapo tofu. Final bill came up with £10 each (we had tap water instead of other drinks). Services was quick and good. They speak enough English to take your order. Trust me and come here to try the food, you will not be disappointed.

Had read about the three meat roast here and really wanted to try it. Visited with husband and grown-up children on rainy Good Friday evening after 9pm so it was quiet and staff were already cleaning up for the night. However, they were friendly and welcoming - providing mugs of Chinese tea straightaway - and helpful about the menu. Sadly, the crispy roast pork belly was finished but we happily made do with two roasts (duck and char Sui) with rice and veg. Really tasty and enjoyable. This is caff style eating - everything on one melamine plate, plastic dispenser for soy sauce and big pot of chilli oil on the table, big portions, soft drinks are served in the can (no alcohol). Prices are very good - four of us ate for under £40 - we would normally expect to pay double that elsewhere. Will definitely go back to try the crispy roast pork and sample more of the menu.

I usually have pretty much the same thing in this restaurant and on this visit, it was no exception. The Char Siu is as good as you will find anywhere from Wanchai to Brum. I really enjoy the atmosphere and listening to the chatter, picking up the odd word that I recognise from my own days in Hong Kong. Luxury? you are in the wrong place but I have eaten in some great places with some great food and this will always rank amongst the best if you like proper, basic Chinese food.

My girlfriend and I visited Peach Garden today. We were going to go to New Sum Ye but it was closed, and we'd seen this place was busy before so thought that was a good sign and in we trotted. The ratio of Chinese diners to westerners was probably 80/20 - again, promising. In terms of decor, it's not much of a looker. Three walls and one wall of windows and that's it. And there's nothing on those walls ; no pictures, no photos, no nothing. The menu's quite long and features the usual chow meins along with more unusual items such as gullet and fatty ends so caters for all tastes. A free chinese tea is yours with every main meal which is quite subtle but a nice touch. As for anything else, there's so little to see, there's so little to report. My girlfriend went for duck in plum sauce with fried rice and I had the three seafood in satay sauce with udon noodles. The duck was a bit of a revelation - tender but cooked in a way that turns the skin into something like crackling. The plum sauce was very balanced and not cloying like you get at some places, and the rice was quite delicately flavoured without a hint of greasiness. My seafood and noodles was just the right side of spicy with the scallops particularly well cooked. To be honest, I wolfed it down without looking up. We also ordered spare ribs with BBQ sauce but couldn't fit it in so we took them home. Don't know what the sauce was on it ; all I know is it wasn't very BBQish, but it was lovely. Total cost? £21.I wouldn't go there for the decoration, and I don't speak Cantonese so a chat's out of the question but if you want good Chinese food delivered with no frills, I'd wholeheartedly recommend it.

Was recommended this place by a family member. The restaurant was small and plain more of a cafe style for a quick meal. It was busy, we managed to get a table before the queue started building up. There were 3 of us who ordered dishes which accompanied by rice. We had the triple roast rice (Chinese roast pork, duck and belly pork with crispy crackling), special curry and rice which contained a mixture of meat ( beef, duck, chicken and large plump prawns) and the bitter gourd with spare ribs in black bean sauce with rice ( this is an acquired taste for the bitter gourd). The dishes were very generous servings and any unfinished food was taken as a 'doggy' bag.The food was delicious and good value £20 for 3 people. We Weill certainly come back.

My wife and I ate here on Friday evening before the comedy club in Arcadian. Peach garden had been recommended to me by a work colleague who had told me it was a little rough but also the most authentic Hong Kong restaurant he'd ever been to outside of Hong Kong. So I went there with a pretty clear heads up.We entered and were shown to our plastic seats by a waitress who knew virtually no English. Looking around we could see that we were the only people to speak English as a first language. We were given menus, we ordered drinks and the menus were taken away. We got our can of 7up (in the can with a straw) and lemon tea (plastic ikea cup) and then spent the next 10 mins trying to get the waitresses attention to give the menus back. The menu has some weird stuff on it from a westerners view point. 'fatty ends and rice' was one even I'd hesitate to order. They also do tripe, which is unusual these days. My wife ordered prawn dumplings and aubergine in black bean sauce with riceand I ordered the 3 meat thing with noodles. All the time we were sat there the chef was busy hacking up ducks with a big cleaver and lots of big plates of delicious smelling food was being ferried out of the kitchen. It looked like everyone else in the restaurant was getting their food before us, but I think it was because my wife's dish was being made and took longer than the usual, because most people seemed to be having a big plate of meat and rice. When mine arrived we both set about it hungrily. I got a big bowl of broth with noodles and pak choi. I also got a smaller plate with char sui pork, roast duck and belly pork. The meat was all luke warm, as you're supposed to drop it in the soup. The belly pork was delicious with a perfect layer of crackling on the top. The duck was still on the bone so was a little hard to eat. It was very tender and juicy though. The char sui was nice and sweet and sticky. The broth was a little watery but I like that, it tasted fresh. My wife's dish was nuclear hot. As I burned my mouth I nodded, "that's lovely " and my wife just replied with "mmmm ".So to wrap up, we'll be going back. I've never tried tripe before, or fatty ends.

This establishment is tucked behind China Court and doesn't look hugely inviting from the outside. It reminds me of the many cafe/diners in Hong Kong so it has a very authentic feel to it.We ordered three dishes of roast duck and BBQ roast pork chow mein, though the third dish there was some confusion as we ordered it after eating the first two and they assumed we wanted it as a takeout but this was quickly resolved. The meals were fairly tasty though some of the duck was a bit on the fatty side but that is to be expected. Also our cups were filled regularly with either hot water or tea and the ice lemon tea was good as well,Service was surprisingly quite warm and friendly considering quite a few in my experience are not very warm. It was quick and efficient and we went to the front to pay for our meals. Its definitely cheaper than the big Chinese restaurants in Chinatown . If you want good quality food at a good price and you are not too worried about particularly nice decor then this is the place to go.

Few negatives. Large party of us seated towards rear of restaurant. Felt like we were put there and forgotten. Only some got drinks by asking staff who walked past. We were told they were waiting for the rest of the party to turn up, so we were supposed to wait for them to arrive to be offered drinks? We had people who had cancelled, we could have been waiting forever, if we hadn’t decided to get our own menus. Empty glasses were staking up on the table even when our meals were served.
