Not great value for money , food was bland , service diabolical, really dissapiinred

Perfect service, great and yummy food. Will definitely be recommending. This is our new home, can't wait to go back.

When we got married 20 years ago this is where we went for our after ceremony meal we come back every few years and its just as good now as it was then.

I’m afraid I have nothing more to add, the last 2 reviews said it all, although not one of us had any Yorkshire’s, this was the first time as a family we had all been together and gone out to eat, such a disappointment, I didn’t pay the bill my dad paid and I felt so bad for him, I just don’t see how you can get a roast dinner so spectacularly wrong and with so much missing

Totally agree with the previous reviewer. I had a good idea this was going to be a disaster the minute I sat down. Cafe style paper tissue serviettes on the table and the cheapest looking crackers I've ever seen in my life. The cold starters consisted of a very small slice of smoked salmon and a mound of small prawns smothered in a bottled Marie Rose sauce that took any flavour of the prawns away. The main course was inedible. The beef was like leather, over cooked and dried out. The Yorkshire puddings were burnt and hard like a tennis ball. The vegetable selection consisted of broccoli, carrots and three small roast potatoes.The turkey was worse. No parsnips, no pigs in blankets, no sprouts, but accompanied by a rock hard stuffing ball and burnt Yorkshires.I don't like to complain but this was bad. No I'll rephrase. It was abysmal.This was without a doubt the very worst meal I have had in my life bar none. It was reheated food and tasted burnt. I called the waiter over and told him I would pay for the starters and drinks and we would go. The owner, naturally apologetic, offered to cook a fillet steak instead which I reluctantly accepted. (To be clear I never order fillet steak because I prefer sirloin). The steak was well cooked by an extremely nice waiter (who didn't work there normally). Trouble was it was covered in gravy and served with exactly the same vegetables as before. Roast potatoes, broccoli and carrots. Clearly this poor waiter was embarrassed to serve such poor quality food at £55 per head plus 10% service which was slow considering when we arrived for the second sitting it was only 25% full at best.We didn't stay for deserts. Our Christmas day meal had been ruined. We just wanted to leave so I asked for the bill. Out of the corner of my eye I could see discussions were taking place so naturally assumed this was either going to be substantially discounted or taking our £50 deposit as payment in full. The owner had other ideas. He gave me a bill of over £260 and that did not include my deposit of £50. I told him very calmly that I wasn't going to pay it and that I was under no legal obligation to do so. The food was not fit for purpose and returned. To my astonishment he said it was our choice not to have the deserts and coffees and we would be charged for the whole meal. Again I reiterated our disgust with the food and he wrote out a new bill for £150 again not including our deposit. This was going nowhere so I politely informed him that I would pay another £100 which was generous or we would leave and pay nothing. That being the case I would also call my credit card company and ask for a charge back for the deposit. Very reluctantly he accepted my offer.This review is true. I was completely sober as I don't drink if I'm driving and have recalled this experience for you readers to draw your own conclusions. 20 years ago this used to be a very nice restaurant. It's not anymore. Agreed I didn't expect a Christmas meal that I recently had in one of Marco Pierre Whites restaurants - which was outstanding by the way and highly recommended, but this excuse for food was a level I hope to never experience again. There are some nice Italian restaurants in the town so think very carefully before going here.

Undercooked Roast Potatoes, burnt gravy, measly portions and no cranberry sauce for the turkey. Interaction from waiting staff was non existent.Don’t even get me started on the starter or desert. This was like a very disappointing school dinner and not worth even a 10th of cost per head.

Service and atmosphere great, food was average

On the late Friday evening cooking was not an option. Pavarotti is always on the way home from the Westcliff station, but was always passed by. This time it was a Must thing.The starter was a meat choice with pickles and I can say it was awesome. I love pickles and the meats and salamis were great appetiser. As I was super hungry, I dont even know what was the mains, but it was great, meat, creamy sauce and steamed vegetabkes, wow, the vegetables were perfectly cooked. The mains with shrimps and rice was a bit more simple, but good.Thanks to the waiter, he did his best. The profitroles, by the way, were sweet, but not over the top, so right for me. Sometimes they are too sweet, but this was yummy.Thank you, will try to return.

We had a table of 16 for my nans birthday. Food was lovely, massive portions. We had the set menu which was great value. Couldn’t recommend more highly. We have been coming here for a few years now and it has never disappointed. Keep up the good work guys

It’s good to see restaurants with the proper table cloth and a napkins rather than no table clothes and paper napkins, this restaurant has been there at least since early 1990 and still going but with one new owner changed back in 2009, still the same decor maybe it’s time to change it, we been there with the friends a table of 6 we had 3 course meal, we all enjoyed our meal dessert and coffee, the service was nice and friendly also choice of music too.

50th birthday meal We been to this Restaurant a table of 6 person for my son 50th birthday, we choose from A La Carte menu its bit expensive but better choice and its worth paying it, we all had starter and main, and we all finish our meals but no dessert which I did ask and bring our own birthday cake (kind owner) we also had a coffee, and some nice wines. Service and meals was nice calm atmosphere where you can enjoy your meal talk each other and listen operatic music specially Pavarotti tenor, if I visit England I will definitely go back again

we went there last Saturday a table of 4, had a 3 halloumi and ham and melon to starter , all was nice melon was mature and juicy, mains 2 lasagne (good size) filet steak tender, tagliatelle with chicken Pease and mushrooms in a creamy sauce, we all enjoyed our meal, service was reasonably in time.

Lovely décor m nice and quiet atmosphere, a table of two, we went there for our anniversary my husband and I had the same starter which antipasto it was nice than I had a homemade Ravioli vegetarian my husband had a stake Diana cooked on the flambé trolley near the table and flamed with the brandy, I must say never seen before it’s a nice show, we also had a dessert, and a Moet Chandon to celebrate, we definitely be back, thank you

My wife and I went to Pavarotti restaurant for a wedding anniversary celebration.Very pretty and traditional interior. A decent wine list. The menu offered a limited selection. However that was not a problem as ALL of the food was cooked extremely well.The service was a touch on the slow side. However we were not in a rush, so this did not concern us.Excellent Prosecco, Veal and homemade ice cream. Delicious food.

Birthday treat with the friends, i go to Pavarotti since i move to the Montagu court (7 years ago) near the restaurant, we been there for many occasions for wedding anniversary family Sunday lunch and every Christmas, we enjoyed the food and service.

Was recommended this restaurant by a local cabbie and I’m glad I did Lovely decor inside and pleasant staff food was amazing and so were the wines They have a piano inside the restaurant which the waiter was more than happy to let me play while others were eating Brilliant Italian Restaurant it’s a bit to far for me to frequent but if anyone is in Southend or Westcliff-on-Sea pay them a visit you won’t be disappointed

Very excited to return after a visit five years ago following a mother’s day gift brought by my son only to find that the standards have fallen well below par. After arriving and finding not another person in the place, the afternoon tea consisted of sandwiches overly salted which where cut into half and then into three (each person only got three of these sandwiches each). All the cakes were shop brought with nothing home made. Due to the lack of food we asked for another egg sandwich only to be charged for this. To make matters worse after phoning up to check our voucher was still valid and assured that it was the staff then made us feel extremely embarrassed by saying we had already used it. I can’t stress just how disappointing this experience was and I hope this review has the impact to have people go somewhere else. There are some excellent places around the Essex area but Pavarotti’s isn’t one of them.

What should have been a nice family lunch was marred by mould growing in a Yorkshire pudding! No apology! First and last visit.

Ruined 65th Birthday My husband booked this restaurant for lunch to celebrate my 65th Birthday with friends. When we arrived the place was all locked up and no one in sight. My husband rang them from outside the building to be told they had a problem and could be there in 10 mins. With parking limited to two hours and it being obvious they had no other booking's we told them not to bother - as they took my husbands mobile at time of booking three weeks before why did they not have the courtesy to ring us that morning. We found Pavarotti’s restaurant by chance when we were looking for a meal prior to seeing a show at the nearby Palace theatre. The cuisine is Italian, but it is very unlike the average, modern, ‘chain Italian’ restaurants that all look rather similar, by contrast, Pavarotti’s is decorated in a rather ornate, colourful, classical style that makes it look rather posh. At first glimpse one wonders if the crystal chandeliers and rather grand furnishings might mean inflated prices, but this was not the case at all – prices are average. The menu is more akin to what I would describe as traditional, family-run restaurant, Italian rather than the modern pasta/pizza style eateries, which pleased me as I could have some fresh vegetables with my meal – something that I often find lacking in modern restaurants. Service was friendly and efficient, and our meals were enjoyable. The restaurant does not appear to have a carpark but is in very easy walking distance of Westcliff station. Overall, this was a pleasant experience and if I were in the area in the future I would consider returning to Pavarotti’s restaurant.

When you walk in it is beautiful the decor is really something. The waiter greeted us with a lovely smile and cant fault the service just such a shame the place is let down by the food. Prawn cocktail was fine but the main course wasnt good. I had home made ravioli and there was so much water in it it was tasteless and the sauce was like tomato paste with nothing else it also looked like they used the same sauce on my friends but with bits of veg in it she had the chicken which she didnt enjoy. The deserts where nice. It could be made into a lovely classy restaurant if they had a decent chef it was the worse italian meal i have had and i cant imagine an italian cooked it. Wouldnt go again or recommend.

First and last time we will go to this restaurant. First impression nice decor but when you go to the loo you see its very tired with shiny carpet on the way and original loos.

the atmosphere was fully italien authentic with beautiful large round tables with so mch room and the waiter was amazing friendly and his timings were correct the restaurant was very empty which i didnt understand the food was like i had been to heaven and back, i had the mussels for starter the homemade Lasagne and the dessert was like angel food the restaurant was clean and our food and the plates were piping hot i reccomend this to anyone and the price was incredible aswell

We met at the restaurant and were greeted by friendly staff. We were the only customers that evening. We asked if this was a usual Friday night and were told no it was because it was mother’s day on that Sunday. The food was excellent and the service was very good as you would expect when you are the only customers!! I can heartily recommend this restaurant it was such a shame that there were no more customers!

I wish I could tell about my experience at Pavarotti's but despite having 2 lunchtime bookings the restaurant was closed both times I arrived and there was no one answering the phone to advise why. The supposed opening hours of 12pm to 2.30pm are clearly not adhered to by the restaurant so my suggestion is to not bother booking here ever!

Having booked by telephone making sure that the restaurant was disabled and wheelchair accessible, It was with dismay that when I arrived at the restaurant early to find that it was in darkness and closed. This had been booked well in advance for a dear friends 70th birthday celebration afternoon tea. I telephoned the restaurant and this was answered by an answer phone and i left a message , around 5 mins later the phone rang and said that they knew nothing about booking, He said lots of people book and do not turn up. Cant offer a review because despite booking was closed.

We enjoyed visiting Pavarotti for the first time and loved the décor and the pianist which added to the feeling of going back in time to how good restaurants used to be. Our food was tasty, hot and substantial and the wine list had enough interesting options at various price points. The owner was gracious and appreciative of our custom although his assistant seemed somewhat gauche and a little clumsy. Taken all together, it was a pleasant dinner and a restaurant we will want to return to.

Visited this restaurant on my birthday and was bowled over by the delicious food and faultless service.

Went with my boyfriend was a lovely restaurant and the staff were so polite and friendly! Food was beautiful and very reasonably priced would definitely recommend to any couple for a nice quiet evening!

I don’t understand why this place isn’t packed.. I went there with my partner a couple days ago, food was excellent both mains and desserts, service on point, he made extra effort to make us feel welcome granted we were the only ones in there, food was fast, the man was very nice, even kept the wine topped up! if you haven’t been there you need to, 100% going back

What a pleasant surprise to find a warm welcome to a very lavish resraurant. We opted for the set menu which had a good choice at an extemely good price! 3 courses plus coffee or tea for £17. Surely too good to be true. However, this was not the case as each course was delicious and served looking as good as it tasted. Will definitely return.

We ate here twice on a recent visit and were very impressed with the excellent service and excellent food. I'm required to eat gluten free and a special meal was prepared for me. We really liked the atmosphere, decor and spaciousness of the restaurant. Great fun. This is a restaurant with real character, excellent food and a thoughtful, interesting and committed owner. Highly recommended.

Great service and spectacular food , deserts need work but very authentic food in general

In a time of so many eateries being opened it seems, almost every day, how lovely to see this restaurant still surviving! it has a lovely internal decor, nice arias in the background, played quietly so conversations can be made and heard! as for the food they have everything from a fixed two course menu, a three course, coffee included and a la carte with a specialty in fish. We opted for the three course with a lovely prawn starter, and moved on to one with a beautiful piece of salmon, and the others chose the homemade lasagne, which was delicious. Limited but delicious choice of deserts. All served quietly and very efficient, well done we'll be back!

The venue is quite large and as we were the only people in the venue on a Saturday night there was little atmosphere and needed a bit of livening up.

Just moved into the area so are checking out the local eateries. We visited this one last night and will certainly be going back again. The food was delicious and well presented and the staff , namely Pavlos and Franco the chef were extremely helpful attentive and pleasant.

We travelled to Southend for a couple of days away and pre-booked before arriving. It turned out to be a good choice, the food was excellent and the staff were attentive. The restaurant itself is very interesting, being a converted bank, and quite baroque.

Imagina un poco de tradición para la temporada festiva/ocasión especial o una oportunidad de salir de Londres? El primero una hostería el té de la tarde haría y no hay necesidad de hacer un viaje a Cornualles o pasar un treble en el Ritz. El lugar en el que pasó a ser frecuente que recientemente está en el mar, y ser presise Westcliff tiene un nombre italiano Pavarotti pero puede presumir el mejor a este lado de Essex bollos recién horneados, según el escrito a mano y sirve recepe cálido así que puedes oler. . . Aquí debo mencionar que todas estas cosas - el scones, sándwiches y el resto se sirve en la China adornos de dulces tradicionales, el que se ve en los museos. Y, por supuesto, empieza con una adorable Kir Royale. . . Por cierto, si te apetece un poco de cocina italiana debe verificar el lugar por la noche y conocer a la chef, escuchar música y si tienes suerte el dueño se juegan una pieza en el piano. Y no se olvide de probar el espresso muy italiano (y postres caseros y platos de pescado. . Ver el, menú)!

Pasamos una tarde maravillosa hoy tener el té de la tarde. El dueño y la camarera no podía haber sido más atento. Hermoso lugar y ambiente. Música de fondo lo hizo aún más especial. Sin duda lo recomiendo y volveré para la cena. Gracias por hacer que el cumpleaños de mi madre, tan especial x

Visited early evening on a Saturday prior to visiting Cliffs Pavillion which is only a 5-10 min walk for pre show meal, two set meal menus available 2 course £9.95, or 3 course £15.95.Restaurant has great vibe with chandelier and nicely laid linen tables, music was great with Italian themed tracks.Food was good, as was the Sicilian red wine that we chose, service was outstanding.Good choice, enjoyable visit.

We were a group of 6 that dined at Pavarotti last night on their Jazz night. Food from the set menu was delicious - especially the lamb shank - and all of us really enjoyed our meals. The live music was fantastic - last night was jazz and the whole band were brilliant performers. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable evening and we will be sure to return!

Dined here a few times and although the food is excellent and the choice wide an varied we have been dissaoited on a couple of occasions by feeling rushed. Quite expensice but the setting is very comfortable.

We needed somewhere quickly as time was pressing and found this by chance. Excellent service, good food well cooked and affordable.

We blinked a bit when we went in but soon adjusted as we were welcomed by our charming and attentive maitre de and shown to our beautifully laid up table. the menu looked varied and interesting but we settled for the extremely well priced 3 course set menu, as we were off to the theatre. Excellent insalata tricolore, stuffed mushrooms good, too. For the mains, salmon, seafood ravioli and lamb shank all good, but my wife found the veggie ravioli average. tiramasu very rich and creamy, not enough coffee bite. All washed down with a good Pinot grigio (we ordered another it was that good) and coffees. If we come back would probably try the a la carte and specials.

We booked a table for 4 at short notice on a Saturday. Would this be our first and last visit.The restaurant was grandly decorated and we were seated on a round table near the piano, Italian music played in the background.My Mother order a bottle of the house Italian Rosè (at £19) but to our surprise we were served an Australian Shiraz, Jacobs Creek no less! Was this our early warning sign that trouble was on the horizon. We smiled to ourselves and drank the wine without comment, being terribly British and not wanting to start a scene. Perhaps an honest mistake by the only and slightly overwhelmed waitress, we would order the next wine, clearly, carefully and in our best BBC accent.Three of us had starters the special sardines, the cured beef and the seafood ravioli. The ravioli was hard around the edges suggesting it was previously frozen, the sardines were ok but on the fishy side, not an overwhelming start.The restaurant started to fill as a table of 8 arrived, quickly followed by 2 tables of couples, but still only the 2 waiting staff.The main event, 2 rare fillet steaks, 1 veal in cream sauce and a spinach ricotta ravioli. My fathers steak was rare with peppercorn sauce and totally delicious, my boyfriends steak, ordered rare was cooked medium but still delicious. My mother's veal although in a tasty sauce, was tough and grey, she struggled to eat one slice. The potatoes and vegetables deserve a mention, served separately, the carrots and broccoli were fresh and perfectly steamed, the accompanying sautéed potatoes, crisp and with a pleasant hint of rosemary. At this point we ordered a red Sicilian wine, no surprises this time!All in all a mixed bag. We received excellent service but other tables waited a long time. Extra staff and training would help, plus better consistency required in the kitchen.We may go back one day, but not soon.

This is my first ever review! I took my partner to Pavarotti for his birthday. We had an absolutely fabulous meal. I go to a lot of restaurants for work (entertaining clients and the such) I can honestly say that the meal we had was one of the best I have ever had. The quality of ingredients was second to none. The service was superb. We had a three course meal. Everything we had was faultless. My steak was cooked perfectly, My partner couldn't stop raving about the flavour of his dish. I couldn't recommend this restaurant highly enough. If you are looking for a real treat of a meal then this is your place!

This is a very good restaurant, with good Italian food and good service. I would highly recommend it. Previous writers have described its excellent interior, parking is also not too difficult in this area. Background music excellent for me so a 5 star on ambience. Would certainly visit again.

Visited Pavarotti wanting a change from our usual Italian restaurant and so pleased we did.The food was amazing and staff very attentive, we will definitely be going back

Our rotary club attended here last week for a friendly get together. The Service was excellent. There was about 28 of us attending and the food was served hot and quickly. Service was very attentive. The food was of good quality and there was very large potions and seconds of veggies if you wanted them. We opted for the fixed menu and there was certainly enough choices to choose from. All in all a good experience.

We booked this restaurant for my business meal 26 of us we choose from the 3 course set meal which £17:50 The menu is good value for a money nice choice of starter mains and dessert and a coffee Everybody enjoyed starters mains were lovely chicken cooked with peppers nice salmon in a creamy sauce good size lamb shank nice homemade ravioli cooked in a rich tomato sauce all mains served with a broccoli carrots and sauté potato also desserts were nice cheese cake profiteroles nice tiramisu .all together lots of food we all enjoyedThe restaurant has nice calm atmosphere so you can talk each other lovely music played nice clean table cloth good settingsDefinitely we all back again Many thanks

The interior is authentic Italian and the service was fine but the food left a lot to be desired. Nothing about the presentation was very refined, with every dish served on a large white dinner plate which then meant everything was covered in sauce to fill the plate. My friend had the home made ravioli, which was thick and hard and the two squares, plenty for a starter, was smothered in sauce that covered the whole plate - far too much and not very pleasant. I had the salmon main which came up cold and my friend had the skate that looked and tasted grey. The puddings were tasty but we saw the profiteroles go to another table and consisted of four buns smothered in chocolate sauce again on a large white plate. It was OK but not unsurprisingly empty; we won't be returning.

Had always intended to visit Pavarotti as the decor and surroundings looked appealing. So when Valentines came around i booked a table for the Saturday evening (last night if your reading this on valentines day itself) for the girlfriend and myself. It was a three course affair for £60 per couple incl coffee or tea at the end of the evening. Which on the face of it did not seem too unreasonable. I paid a £20 deposit three weeks previously.We had a swift drink in the pub opposite and then took our seats in Pavarotti. We were one of the first couples to arrive as some of the other tables were occupied by larger groups. We ordered a small bottled beer each and chose our food from the menu.The first two courses whizzed past. They were both on the small side but of reasonable quality. We noticed that the waiter and the proprietor were far more interested in the tables that were buying alcoholic drinks and wines than being attentive to all. This became evident when i tried to order our dessert and was ignored twice! Water had long since dried up. We had no intention of purchasing any more alcoholic drinks and this was apparent to them.When we finished our dessert i hurriedly ordered the bill. To my amazement they had overcharged by £20!, Obviously not taking into account the deposit i had already paid! I took this up with the proprietor who handed me a £20 note and explained that some people had paid a deposit and some hadn't. I find this hard to believe as i was told it was a condition of reservation on booking! We declined the teas and coffees and decided to leave. They did not even offer to get our coats, it was obvious we were leaving!All very embarrassing I'm afraid! If we had been in a large group, braying like a bunch of donkeys and ordering buckets of wine I'm sure the picture would have been very different. But for an intimate evening forget it! I would go as far as to say they were quite rude and arrogant, my girlfriend even said she felt they were quite hostile!So,as you will gather we will not be visiting Pavarotti again!If you are in the Southend area i can thoroughly recommend IL PISCATORE where they will give you an authentic Italian dining experience!

was in area for party with my dad and couple of restaurants nearby where were empty claimed to be full that evening but luckily for us managed to get in here and wasnt dissapointed , had lamb and was lovely , was standard price for something like this but friendly laid back atmosphere and lovely building was happy to pay more than originally wanted for a bite to eat .. if in area and have time id reccomend this place ,

me and my boyfriend went to this restaurant for our one year anniversary and truth be told the service was wonderful. The restaurant is garnished with elegant decor and has a really authentic feel. The menu is somewhat limited but great selection of wines and tremendous, warm and proffessional service. And the food tasted great!

went there for xmas dinner, never again!

A 30 people family 80th birthday party was brilliant last night., great food, good quality for the price. The singer booked to entertain us was also great - Joe Fryd

We all went out to have something eat. The building / interior is very grand and does represent a true Italian restaurant.The service was not the best with a few mistakes made with wrong drinks although this was corrected as soon as we raised the issue.The menu had a limited choice for those who are vegetarians as a lot of the dishes included meat. As there was a vegetarian in our party we asked if things could be changed, sure it was changed.I would recommend this.
