Just had a takeaway from here and was greatly disappointed. The chicken was hard and inedible. The garlic bread was unpleasant to eat. Waste of over £50 will not be ordering again.

My partner and I had quite a good meal. The restaurant wasn't too busy, so felt comfortable. The staff were quite helpful to us. Food was lovely

From starters to desserts our food was delicious. Especially the stuffed mushrooms! Service was friendly and attentive. It’s lovely to see staff working as a team. My only niggle was that initially when I ordered a large glass of wine I double checked that it was the correct measurement; however my second glass was a larger volume. Having said that we will definitely be returning to Ask Southend.

Actually not keen on chains, but really enjoyed this one! We usually avoid chains as prefer to use local independent restaurants, however we had a voucher to use. We were not expecting much, but have to say we were impressed! The staff were absolutely lovely, attentive & knowledgeable about the menu. The food was more than acceptable, I’ve had far worse in independents, the wine was great &, to be honest, nothing here I could complain about. Had a lovely evening.

The food is terrible nothing authentic or near Italian, just frozen bid food chain food. As for service non existent!! Rude miserable management. It was a meal feeling very uncomfortable. Would not go back to that branch at all

Visited ask for my friend’s birthday celebration, I ordered my favourite meal which was chicken Milanese. I was offered chips or rosemary potatoes with a cheese sauce. I chose the latter. The chicken arrived and I immediately noticed that it was a very uniform shape, not chicken breast shape at all! I cut into it and found it to be chopped and shaped chicken. The potatoes were hard and the cheese sauce had bacon in it. I do not eat pork. I left my meal and tried to explain to the waiter, he was adamant that it was chicken breast fillet. Offered replacement (all my friends had finished their meal) or no charge for meal. I was really disappointed with my meal especially as Ask had always been one of my favourites.

Went for my birthday meal with some friends. The food and drinks were so lovely but the staff were so rude it completely put us off going back. If I do, it'll be a takeout.

The food was really awful. The staff were nice but not very attentive. The day we went was busy ish but plenty of staff on for the amount of tables that were filled. The food was extremely tasteless and you could tell it was reheated.

I cant thank this warm, welcoming restaurant enough after our recent and excellent evening spent celebrating a family birthday. After initially booking for our party, the size of the party then doubled and without any fuss the staff catered for every change thereafter. Wonderful friendly and attentive service from Maria and co through out our entire evening. Food excellent and just as advertised, all I needed to do was ask, and then staff raised to any challenge be it allergies or just about anything else the party needed ! Cant wait to return.

Had the best dinner here especially since it was for a family of 15. The staff took our orders efficiently and we all received our drinks and meals out together which was great seeings it was such a large group. I rang a couple of times to book and reconfirm the booking and spoke to a lovely member of staff Kinga who served us that night too. She really made it easy to book and enjoy our meal and her team did a great job too. Would highly recommend it, lovely food and attentive staff.

Monday asked for a table at 8.30pm. Half the restaurant being used but refused a table for 2 as they were apparently booked up for the whole night! On a Monday?? Rubbish. So many probs getting a table there at all times. Won’t bother again

Me and my partner come here very often, the staff are always friendly and accommodating. The restaurant itself has great decorations to look at whilst waiting for your food, the food is always amazing, I've tried many dishes and they are all great, the deserts are equally as good. We will always come back here as me and my partner think it is amazing!

I haven’t been to Ask Southend for a while, and I’m glad to say that I loved it once again! Lovely service from the waitresses and as always the food was delicious!! The chefs and kitchen staff should be very proud of themselves, im never disappointed with their work. All in all, I’ll carry on recommending this restaurant to my friends and family. When and if you go, understand that they work their hardest to make your experience lovely. Can’t wait to eat there again!😋😋😋😋😋

🤔🤥😪 Oh dear, my opinion was shattered. I had 2 great meals here, but with both, they were very salty & a lack of garnish. Plain tomato soup, no thin swirl or spot of sour cream etc or lush parsely. I asked for some, it was quickly brought. Same with risotto, plain mushy peas look! I put cream & parsely on that too, it was tasty & all other meals looked spectacular... But & this is quite incredible, I went to the loo, put my bag on the shelf top & in doing so, shouted out in pain, the towel warmer was SCALDING HOT! It actually burnt my hand... Thinking this had only just malfunctioned, I told the waiter, but was asked, why had I put my hand on it!!! 🔥😱 Crazy, I gather it's always like that & until child burns their hand on it, they just laugh! Health & Safety be Aware... Won't be back there..

Went to ask Italian after a not great visit to another restaurant. Asked for a table for 2. The waiter informs us that it is CARD only. We only had cash on us so we left. Really disappointed and amazed that they were not accepting cash. Lesson learned there.

ARRIVED AT APPROX 5 o/c WITH NO BOOKING, AND ALTHOUGH RESTAURANT VIRTUALLY EMPTY ! TOOK A WHILE TO "FIND A TABLE!" A GREAT SHAME THAT THE ONE ITALIAN RESTAURANT IN THIS AREA WITH INDIVIDUAL QUIET AREAS CLOSED, THIS "NORMAL FORMAT" OF OPEN AREA DINING IS SO NOISY AND NOT ONE TO LINGER AFTER EATING, AND YES I RATHER GATHER THAT IS THE WHOLE IDEA, "GET THEM IN ,GET THEM FED, AND GET THEM OUT!"

I was really disappointed with my meal. We have had a delivery 3 times. The first was really good, hence returning. The second was nowhere as good as the first and was far too hot (spicy). I thought I would give it another chance, as we like Ask and are regular customers to to the restaurant. I had the same main course each time. The first time my husband and I said we were impressed how many prawns there were in it. The second time there weren't as many, but still enough. Last night I ordered extra prawns for £1.95 and was extremely disappointed that, apart from the large prawn with shell on, there wasn't one single prawn, let alone the extra I had paid for. The chef had obviously forgotten to put them in completely. There were some crayfish that were meant to be in there, but not loads !!!!Also, normally I have the butterfly prawns for starters (I love prawns), but they were sold out, so I had the calamari. It was the most tasteless weird looking calamari I have ever had and didn't look appetising at all. My husband and daughter faired better with their meals, but we all agreed that we won't be having Ask again for quite a while, which is a shame, as they need all the custom they can get and should, therefore, make every delivery worth going back for.

It had been far too long since my partner and I had a proper date night. My step-sister got me a restaurant voucher for Christmas which covered Ask, so we decided to give it a go- I hadn’t been in years! As always, I had a look at the menu online before we went- I couldn’t believe the extent of the options; cannelloni, lasagne, ravioli, calzone- all of my favourites! I couldn’t wait to go! I deliberated for a while, but decided on the lasagne grande (lasagne with extra meatballs! Yum!) My partner went for a meaty calzone; which he loved! (I also tried a little piece and can confirm that it was delicious!)I had a homemade raspberry lemonade to drink, which was tangy, fresh and moreish! One of my favourite options to see on a menu!Despite the amount we consumed for dinner, we went for a dessert. I chose the salted caramel cookie & ice cream and honestly can’t describe the pure heaven which was that dessert! If I were to visit Ask Italian again I would probably try a different main...(maybe a ravioli?) but there is absolutely no way I could select a different dessert. It was warm, gooey, chocolately, salted-caramely- what more could anyone want?? Just wow!I’ve signed up to the email chain Ask Perks now and can’t wait to revisit! What a lovely time!

The service was quite half hearted, didn’t check on us after we received our meals.The gluten-free pasta was ok, there was hardly any meat in the bolognese! Normally really impressed with Ask but it just seemed a little too average! Nothing special. Happy I used my TasteCard otherwise it wouldn’t of been worth the money.

Food was nice. Service was appalling. Waitress very rude, impatient and short tempered. Actually she was fine with us but to a well behaved group of young people was awful. It spoiled my night out. They asked for separate bills before eating and that was refused. From the conversation, they were overcharged and could not get it sorted. I won’t be going back. Any restaurant that treats anybody this way is well worth avoiding.

Having visited a few times in the past I had mixed feelings about the visit! But I the staff and the food were excellent on this occasion. A recent change in menu with a positive vibe has helped make the restaurant into a excellent choice for young people. The food was good and well presented with a great selection of drinks! Went to ask today for lunch with 3 friends. To have a catch up. Felt rushed as soon as I had sat down. We were asked instantly what we would like when we had not even looked at the menu. Our waitress Ana came back within a minute to ask again, friends catching up do not rush. We ordered our food. Was not even asked if we wanted a drink. The food came over which was ok not the best pasta dish I have eaten. The whole time I felt I was being watched. When 3 of us had finished the waitress came over, I could tell she wanted to take the plates but 1 person was still eating. Again we felt we was being watched. As soon as my friend put her fork down the waitress was straight over cleaning the table. I would understand if it was busy but it wasnt. I don't understand what the rush was. Won't be going back in a hurry.

I would say it’s a great place for friends but not the best if you are looking for a romantic meal, it isn’t very cosy. I do enjoy the food here generally and I love the welcome lemon drink that is given to you. I would say it is good for a lunch time bite as it is very bright and open, I wouldn’t recommend it as much for an evening celebration. The staff are great and I have always felt welcome there, it doesn’t feel fake and they seem like genuinely nice people.

Went into Ask yesterday with family and we had two little ones with us.

My wife and I were given a Buyagift voucher, which we chose to use at the Southend Branch of Ask. On arrival we were offered a special menu for Buyagift voucher holders. The Superiore main menu had a very limited choice unless you like chicken, very disappointing all round. The £39 value of the voucher would have been better spent on the normal menu.

I came here for a nice date with my boyfriend before we went to see a film at the cinema. I had the spaghetti carbonara and it was amazing and as it is my favourite meal I was most excited that I had found a good restaurant that does it. my boyfriend had a 4 cheese margarita which looked amazing and he thoroughly enjoyed. finally we shared profiteroles for dessert and it was my boyfriends first time trying them and he loved them. the homemade raspberry lemonade is my favourite drink from there I loved it some much I asked for some to go. we had a lovely evening and would highly recommend.

Visited mid week with our 2 year old daughter and had a great time. All staff were very attentive and personable. We didn’t have to ask for anything as the two ladies that served our table were excellent and could anticipate what would help my family enjoy our visit a little more (drink top ups, colouring for our daughter, take away box for our daughters dinner that was left etc...)

Visited Southend with work and needed something for tea. Strolled into the restaurant to met with a very warm welcome from the staff. The service didn't disappoint and the food was.... starter Bruschetta was ok, the main of pollo arabiata was good. Served its purpose for me very well. A message for the management of this chain - be proud of your staff in Southend. They make a difference.

We went to ASK today and it was a very enjoyable Dinner, the waitress Maria was lovely and so was the food could not of asked for anything better, every-time we go there, never any complaints, great restaurant to go to in Southend.

This has become a regular haunt of ours, the food is good, but the main reason is the staff.

OK, we're not proud, we used a voucher to obtain 3 courses for £15.95 and added a bottle of wine to make the evening more enjoyable.

Four of us ladies were meeting up for lunch and chose to dine at Ask Italian Southend-on-sea. We couldn't have a chosen a better place. The welcome was friendly....the restaurant's modern simply stylish interior was clean and inviting. When seated we were served a complimentary pink lemonade shot whilst we were left to choose from the comprehensive menu after our drinks order had been taken. Two of the ladies chose to have the Lasagne which they said was the best Lasagne they had ever eaten. One lady had the Spinach& Ricotta Girasole which she thoroughly enjoyed...very cheesy. I had the Light Pollo Con Piccante Con Pancetta which is served with a Rainbow Salad containing Candy Stripe beetroot, yellow courgette ribbons, tomatoes,cucumber,red pepper,mixed leaves,radish,pine nuts and a citrus dressing on the side. Not only does the Rainbow Salad look pretty it's delicious too! The chicken picante was also lovely. We decided to indulge in a dessert each. Two of the ladies had the Lemon Tart served with tangy blood orange drizzle and vanilla icecream. One lady had the White Chocolate Swirl which is a white chocolate and almond mousse on crushed pistachio nuts & strawberries served with a cascading blood orange sauce poured over the dessert at the table by the waitress. I chose the Pistachio & Olive Oil cake served warm with vanilla icecream. It was absolutely heavenly....so light...so moist...so moreish. Every one of us enjoyed every delicious mouthful of our desserts.

This is my third time in Ask Italian and I can finally say that this restaurant is amazing. Great service and lovely food. The restaurant was not busy and this is a shame.

Reserved a table at ask Italian for Saturday evening. We have eaten at Ask many times and have never had a bad experience. The staff are really friendly as is the manageress. The restaurant is clean and very modern and there is always a great atmosphere there. The food is lovely with a wide range of food from the menu to accommodate everyone. Great place to eat.

Sat on the high top by open doors near to the street. Had a lovely meal with excellent service! The lady who was possibly the manager was great. Good quality, tasty pizzas and lovely coffee with the blood orange and chocolate tart after! A pleasant evening. Thank you!

In the centre of town so plenty of public transport and taxis. Often very crowded at weekends, tends to attract a younger crowd, but pleasant. Very noisy inside, can be a bit of a mad house when busy. Staff very nice, never had an issue with the food. Not a place to linger for a long intimate evening. Would definitely go again.

I was in Southend on business and fancied something a bit better than fast food, I was served very quick but the place was very quiet, I asked for a MUSHROOMS AL FORNO as a starter, I wanted meatballs for main but they don't do it so the waitress said I will do two starters on one plate, For double the price, I said ok without really thinking about it, The mushrooms came quick but I was more than disappointed with them, The bread underneath was rock hard and dry, it should be moist and pleasant to eat but it was like eating stale bread (and tasted like it) The mushrooms were OK but very bland and tasteless, The main course arrived and that was even worse, about 10 meatballs in a sauce that was it !!!! No pasta no nothing a small bowl of meatballs in sauce, maybe I should have paid more attention to the menu but I'm sorry for £13 I was livid, I ate it and paid £20 and left, safe to say I will never return. I have never in my life felt so ripped off, I should have gone to Bella Italia next door. I am also annoyed that I didn't say something at the time, But I was just so annoyed I left without saying anything.

I met up for lunch with two friends in central Southend one midweek day in May 2018 so there we were, just after midday, standing at the top end of the High Street, wondering where to go and one friend suggested ASK Italian - less than 100 yards away. Now, when it comes to Italian cuisine I tend to avoid 'chains', preferring instead to visit an independent restaurant but, hey I thought, why not? In for a penny....

Visited with relatives for lunch - had booked a table but it wasn't ready when we arrived on time. The waitresses who served us were so miserable and seemed as though they avoided our eye when we tried to get their attention. The table was sticky and the whole place looked tired. Food was poor - we weren't told of the items that weren't available when we were given the menus so had to rethink afterwards. I asked whether my salad dressing was gluten free and was told 'think so' - not good enough for a coeliac so didn't eat the dressing to avoid illness. My father-in-law's spaghetti carbonara was so congealed he could cut it like a cake!

I visited with my daughter. Staff were very friendly and welcoming and food was great. The service was quick and efficient despite it being busy. Good gluten free options.

Recently myself and 3 of my college friends came here for lunch, we were pushed for time as we had to attend our lessons so we stressed this to the lovely waitress who was happy to help and reassured us that the food would be no longer than 10 minutes. As we sat down we given a complementary shot of their lemonade which was brilliant for the hot day we were having. The food arrived after 10 minutes as the waitress had said and it was piping hot and tasty. Brilliant service and excellent for of we will be returning.

This place is great. They look after the kids well. Never been to an ASK before but the food was great. What I loved was their selection of foods they do. Pizza, pasta and salad. All freshly made. Restaurant was freezing cold and we werent near the door. The restaurant is now looking tacky ceiling looks like its had leaks mismatched furniture and table was stained and sticky. Garlic bread was tasteless main course wasnt much better but the white mouse and orange sauce was lovely best part. Service was good but dont think i will bother going again.

Wonderful place to eat fantastic food and great servicewell worth a visit clean always great value for money xx
