We lived in Hammersmith several years ago and then the place was our favourite- not a day without their fab baguette, not a weekend without their amazing desserts (you would enjoy each and every from the menu!) A magnificent taste of real France on the bank of River Thames it was then! Then we moved and only rarely I had a chance to pop in and buy as much as I could to enjoy these treats as long as possible!.. But my two recent visits really shocked me: not a baguette, not a single piece of dessert or tart was the same as before!?! That’s how I discovered what I actually started to suspect: the new owner. Thus - a totally new place, taste and aftertaste… Now I know why I don’t have to take this long trip to this once a gem of Hammersmith: a very average quality of every dessert, a very poor quality of pastries (croissant shouldn’t be called that name here anymore…) and bread (brioche is anything but a brioche here now…) I agree with other reviews, that new owners were too bold to keep the same price level for their products, but the worse thing is, that they also are trying to cut down their expenses by using lower quality (or quantity) of the ingredients. But more importantly, I agree with the statement , that you can’t use the history of this place as your own, you have to clearly tell customers, that you are new there and just TRYING to keep this place as good as it once was… Adieu, Patisserie Saint Anna UPDATE. Received a response from the owner today: “Fake review”,. Sorry, guys, but this one is not fake. As a proof, adding a photo of my yesterday dessert (couldn’t finish it, sorry…). Use to love it so much, but now it has lots of lumps in it, so no pleasure of eating that at all…

God bless the croissant au beurre. Very small Parisian boulangerie in Hammersmith, London. The croissant oozes butter inside and out. It feels like biting tissue paper, millimeter crispy and infinitely meltable. A sweet and assertive croissant, it looks like a cloud, ethereal. 9/10. The canelé is disappointing though: it really lacks moisture and flavour.

I was quite concerned after reading the negative reviews following the change in ownership. However, I was very happily surprised by the freshly baked, crisp texture of the croissant, which was reminiscent of the ones I had in my many trips to France. The Kouign-Amman was also superb. My wife and I enjoyed every bite, and we will certainly be back for more.

I don't think a business should be able to keep the review history when it changes hands. It is highly deceptive! My friends and I noticed a drop (like a fall off a precipice) in quality about 5 months ago. We were puzzled as there was no indication (other than we no longer saw the usual people on the patisserie) of any change. When we stopped by in Dec to try again, we ended up leaving because the eclairs looked terrible and clearly no longer of the same quality. But as others have noted, there is no change in price and on their website, they kept the history narrative, without any word of the complete change in ownership that occurred in 2024. I'm sure the new owners paid a premium to buy it this way, but as a customer, this feels completely dishonest. It is apparent that the new owners have not tried to keep up the traditions and methods as the quality (ingredients as well as skill) went downhill v quickly and noticeably. None of us will be returning.

Poor quality of food. Lack of staff to actually provide good service. Very inconvenient when you are trying to have a quick bite before work or during your lunch. Never again. I would rather spend my money on Gail's. To add to this, since the change in ownership, the quality of the food has noticeably declined. The baked goods no longer have the same level of care and craftsmanship that made them stand out under the previous owner. The croissants, in particular, lack the rich, buttery taste they once had and now have an artificial flavour. When I raised my concerns in person, the explanation I received felt dismissive rather than reassuring. While technical details like layering matter, the most important thing is the overall taste and quality. That being said, the two staff members working there are absolutely lovely and provide great service, but they seem to be understaffed. I truly hope the new owner takes customer feedback seriously and makes improvements, as this bakery has the potential to regain its former excellence.

This was the go to bakery in London and for my wife’s birthday I ordered a four person fraisier and quiche for our party. Happy to pay the premium price for what we knew were going to be quality products. How wrong I was today. Dry sponge and undisolved gelatin and strawberries that tasted stale in the fraisier. Add to that so much salt in the quiche we couldn’t get through it. Unless there are drastic changes for the better sadly I can’t see how the business can keep its customers. I for one will not be returning.

Certainly the best croissants and pastries I ever found in UK by far… you can taste the subtle butter, and it’s proper flakey and crunchy, fresh and not stale like you find them everywhere else… it’s just a great shame there is no sit down space, I’d be in every morning… on the other hand, it’s probably for the best, at my age I cannot afford to put on weight!

The quality and taste of the cakes are always great. But a couple of days ago I had an unpleasant incident - I ordered two pieces of cake and the girl who sold it took the cakes out for me with her bare hands without gloves or a special device. I don't want to eat cakes after someone else has touched them with their fingers. I asked for a replacement, she put on gloves, that is, she had them. People, we survived a pandemic, why should I teach hygiene to a person working with food? Unanswered question

Like many other loyal customers, I have been buying my baked goods from Saint Anne's for years. In London, it's almost impossible to find places with the soul and craftsmanship of bakeries in France or in Eastern European countries, and this bakery has always stood out for the consistently high quality of its products. It was clear that its former owners put their heart and soul into this place. A month ago, I was unpleasantly surprised when I bought a croissant for the same high price and could not tell the difference between the pastry from Sainsbury's... A completely dry and thin croissant, instead of butter - a tangible smell of margarine, yet the price is just as high. Please don't let down the good reputation of this place and stop saving on butter and products, and if not - please go by another non-French name. I sincerely hope that the new management of this otherwise excellent bakery will hear my and many other reviews.

As most French people in London who know about this gem, I was slightly worried to find out that they had changed staff/ownership; indeed all of a sudden, the best french bakery in London (and my haven for comforting pastries and baguettes) was at risk of becoming some fancy overpriced french inspired blurb...might as well move back to France at that point, right?! Haha! Well, DON'T!! There's no need! The new owners and staff are absolutely fabulous and all ingredients are the same: the pastries and vienoiseries and baguettes are still as exceptional as they ever were (i.e. better than some of the best bakeries and boulangeries in France) and the service is impeccable! I am so glad that Patisserie st Anne is still here and so grateful to its new owners for having kept it just as wonderful! In a nutshell, if you haven't already, you must go there as soon as you can! NB: Only challenge is still the same as ever though: how are you supposed to choose? Everything is excellent! Lastly, to all those who say that it's less good since the change of ownership, I would say that change is always something that we -as humans- struggle with and tend to reject...so give them a bit of time! It is true that I also noticed a slight adaptation/adjustment period in the first week or so BUT they've managed to completely match the quality and service now, so give them a chance, they deserve it and we deserve those delicious pastries and bread ! Well done! PS: the galette des rois might even be better than it was before and the fève I had was adorable, you MUST try it before the end of Jan...(After that, if you still need your frangipane fix, there's always their unreal pain au chocolat aux amandes, which is to die for all year round!).

Sad day for what used to be a lovely french boulangerie/patisserie that we loved to visit. Their entire menu has changed and is not so french nor good anymore. Rosette became prosciutto, cornichons became cheap Tesco pickles burger gherkins, camembert replaced with brie. The sandwiches that we used to love are now barely average. Very good pastry/bakery in London, I had an excellent blue chicken sandwich there, however I found the service quite sluggish, as if they didn't really want to be there. Other than that I recommend

Cakes look great in the shop. Brought them home and felt ill immediately. Lord knows how long they were out. Service not with a smile which added to an overall, bad experience. Would not recommend

I have never written a review. But that almond croissant was so divine I feel like I have to pay my respects. Enjoyed the luxury of a fresh French pastry without hopping on the Eurostar, what a treat x

I like good cakes. I was a regular loyal customer happy to drive up to an hour for good cakes… They now sell dried up cakes from the day before - at full price. I even saw them placing the fresher ones at the front to then sell the old ones asap … and then they argue and lie in your face that it is how a fresh cake tastes like…. What is sad is that we are not the only loyal customers with this experience. Clearly too successful to now care about the quality, to care about their customers… or even about their reputation! The beginning of the end for them. They won’t see us again and I will leave customers who like eating old dated cakes at full price the joy of munching them…

It's often a good sign when they speak French. We tried their Kouign Amann aux Pomme, and after getting used to the added fruity, sour taste of the apple, we kinda enjoyed this new experience and want to recommend this to others. Also regretting not taking a good photo of it.

Really lovely bakery, feels very French. The pastries I got were extremely tasty. Just be aware of the fact that they can sell out of things so make sure you go in the morning or early afternoon if there’s something in particular that you want

A proper French patisserie and boulanger in Hammersmith. Their cakes are excellent as is their bread. Very glad they decided to move from Paris to London (a long time ago now). Presumably named for that, love the Paris-Londres!

Would I cross London to buy a Mini Tarte tropézienne? Well! Our local french patisserie Jade does not do them, so off to Chiswick in a Sunday morning to join the queue. I bought a baguette too: the Trop was OK with nice cream on an ordinary bun, with a sugar nibs coating the top that reminded me of my childhood. Impossible to eat without a creamy coating on fingers and mouth. But the baguette was not baked through! Surely a french bakery can achieve one that is both cooked in the centre and crusty on the outside? Otherwise I may as well buy at Sainsbury and throw away the centre as usual. I would not return.

Delicious pastry and a must visit if you want to have authentic French bakery at a reasonable price and very similar to what you’d have in Paris. It’s not boujie and you can’t eat in but everything especially pan au chocolat is delicious 😋

Hands down the best bakery in London. The croissant are to die for. The bread is fresh and authentically French and if you arrive early enough you can buy it while it is still warm. The cakes and the freshly prepared sandwiches are amazing too. Please keep on doing what you are doing.

Very average service, and the restaurant was almost empty—more staff than customers. The food was okay, but I found a meat string in my dish, which was off-putting. Despite this, there was no acknowledgment, no discount offered, and I was still charged a service fee. The manager lacked basic manners, and the overall experience was disappointing. I chose not to make a scene as my wife begged me not to , but I definitely wouldn’t return. Such a shame especially as we are both locals.
