Delicious food, lots of options and reasonably priced. Had the hash stack which was yummy and apparently the scrambled egg was the best my aunt had ever had! Thank you. Great for milk allergies too as most items are vegan.

Gorgeous freshly prepared food served by fantastic, friendly, professional staff. The place is well set out with tables not too close together, although the space doesn't lend itself to cosy chats as it is a little bleak, but spotlessly clean and full of good information. It's a great place to get something delicious to eat and drink, and is peaceful enough to get some work done or books read. Not overpriced either. Great value for money.

We dined here on a Saturday Evening. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The service is excellent. The meal was served as a vegan-friendly tasting menu: bread course; appetiser; three main courses; one dessert course. The food is delicious, and beautifully presented. There is a fantastic mix of tastes and textures, and the whole meal was perfectly balanced. We left feeling comfortably full, as well as having enjoyed a marvellous dining experience. Will certainly visit again. Soon.

Tried the 6 course tasting menu, absolutely loved it, such interesting and tasty dishes. Was a great evening, staff fabulous and the Rose wine recommended was delicious, I highly recommend this amazing cafe so lovely to have a decent vegetarian restaurant. I believe they may now allow dogs in the day time, so another big plus for us.

We visited for an anniversary celebration. We booked a table and paid a deposit. On arriving, it was like a dance. Everything complimented the food and the wine pairing is a total plus. My meat eating husband wolfed it all down. Everyone commented on the bhajee dish- it was complimented by home grown asparagus and the loveliest dip. After, we spoke to Sid about his love and passion for farming the food. Honestly, blown away by how amazing the team of people are. It's not a meal- it's an experience. Thank you.

This is a lovely restaurant. The staff are warm, friendly and amazingly efficient. The ambience is cool and relaxed. And the food is wonderful; a beautiful range of vegetarian and vegan dishes, colourfully presented and utterly delicious. It’s also excellent value for money - and easily the best place in Colchester for brunch or lunch.

Our first time to ‘Patch Lates’ having visited a few times during the day for lunch. We weren’t disappointed. Every plate on the menu was amazing - can say that because we ordered all six small plates! (recommended number three each so not too greedy!) Staff were friendly and helpful, nothing too much bother. Best vegetarian restaurant in Colchester - have already recommended to friends!!

Popped in here during a day out in town as the wife had been here before, so decided we'd go again. Although we're both meat eaters we do also like veggie food and this has to be one of the best, if not the best, in town. All ingredients either grown themselves or sourced from other local growers, ensuring a wide range of choices on the menu, so many of which we'd have liked to try. I had miso stuffed mushrooms and the wife had a beetroot infused risotto, both of which were well presented and delicious. Café not aiming to be 'posh' or salubrious but simply set out, friendly staff and reasonable pricing. Definitely be back.

Absolutely amazing food, I've been a few times now in the last year. The only thing I'd say is that they need to change their menu up a bit. Would be great to try something new! :)

The coffee is always incredible and second only to the food. Everything I have ever ordered here, you can feel the level of thought and love in it. Their lunch menu is simple but there’s something for everyone. Highly recommend the banana bread French toast, the hash brown stack and the miso mushrooms. The service is always so friendly and unpretentious. Veggie paradise and leading the way for plant based eating in Colchester. Can’t wait to check out the evening/dinner offerings!

This has to be the most underwhelming Café I’ve been to in years, The menu barely changes the variety is poor, the cake choices are minimalist, given that this is a specialised cafe for vegetarians Very Poor, Zero Stars from me , I can’t see this lasting long Sorry

Stayed on Mersea Island for a few days with friends for birthday celebration and was looking for somewhere to go for afternoon tea. Found The Gilt Rooms on Tripadvisor and decided to give it a go. We had to book for the afternoon tea but wow so worth it. Everything from the freshly made sandwiches to the warm fresh out of the oven scones and home bakes cakes (chocolate eclair, victoria sandwich, lemon drizzle and choc brownie were amazing. All washed down with a perfectly chilled glass of prosecco and lashings of tea or coffee. It was the absolute best afternoon tea I've ever had and have had a few. Will definitely visit again when there.

My first Christmas lunch and I thought I treat myself a lovely hot coffee with Tia Maria. I had to wait for the coffee cocktail and that was ok but when it arrived it looked messy, then I tried it was not very warm but I didn’t had heart to complain so I drank it until the last sip then I could feel something in my mouth and realised I had a fly in my mouth so it was nearly dissolved and I thought I was going to trow up. I told the staff what happened and I had the fly on my finger, the staff didn’t think anything as it was supposed to be normal, they didn’t handled it very well. They didn’t apologise say anything so I had to say I hope my glass off wine will be free of charge as already paid £7.25 for my cocktail. Anyway we carried on with the celebrations and then my Christmas lunch arrived. Looked very nice, food was hot and I enjoyed it until I thought my Christmas sausage looked a bit pale so I joked with my husband you can have it as it looks undercooked. My husband ate half and realised that sausage still raw. Told staff again and no one raised an eyebrow…. Well i think its not the way how to run a restaurant, i know everything is not perfect but at least recognise the problem. Just a sorry and an apology would have been nice.

We visited the Old Seige House for dinner with my parents and a great night was had by all. We had informed when booking that one of the party had allergies and when they gave us the menus the waitress was already aware and carefully explained what dishes they could have and made them feel comfortable. There was also a good choice of vegetarian options. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed all our dishes and the service was spot on. We will definitely be back when we are next in the area
