First time in after passing many times ..scrambled eggs on toast with a latte. Yum yum

Just stopped for a drink. So comfortable to sit and enjoy.

Visited on a Sunday lunch time, was a strange experience overall. Only our table and one other in for lunch though this could be because we were an early booking (12:30). The menu didn't really match what was online maybe we looked at Google and not the webpage. When booking they had called to say that the Sunday roast wasn't served over summer but we didn't realise that the full Sunday menu was now off. The menu's we were given said the lunch options werent served on a Sunday this was clarified and it turns out they are. I went for the crispy chicken having had it here before only this time the secret recipe chilli and honey sticky sauce over powered the dish tasting like it was straight from the jar. The fussy eater in the group went for the safe fish and wedges, shame it looked like the batter at been coloured with turmeric and was very soft and soggy. My dads meal was ok and my partner enjoyed her chilli, we didn't try the desserts.

This is a hidden gem in the heart of portobello. Been here twice now and both experiences have been fantastic. Came here today on a team building cycle day for lunch. The food, cocktail and service was amazing. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Love the decor and atmosphere. 80's music playing in the background just adds to the fantastic experience. Would highly recommend coming here, you won't be disappointed.

Due to the time I arrived, the menu was limited, but I was able to get a coffee and a piece of cake.

What a lovely restaurant! Wonderful staff, fabulous atmosphere and tasty food! The chocolate melt pudding was probably the best I've ever had! Our German friends loved the quirkiness of the decor and enjoyed the Sunday Roast experience. Thank you Passey's, we'll be back!

Health and safety issue!First of all, was put off by waitress touching and petting the two dogs in the cafe, and then serving food and drink without washing her hands 👐 We had the burgers, cheap burger rolls and fries and wedges overcooked and black in colour. Tiny amount of cheese and salad on the burger, and I mean a tiny amount! When it came to paying the bill, they could only give us a grand total, unable to see what items we were paying for! Is this legal? Did complain! Young 2cd server girl, who was very apologetic, not the one with dirty hands!

Three tables in the restaurant for most of the evening but we waited a while for food and weren’t offered any drinks after the initial order was taken. We wouldn’t have minded but it was so quiet and one other table seemed to be getting great service. Really baffling. Food was OK but nothing to shout about, been to much better places in Porty with fab food and excellent service. Music stopped and wasn’t put back on for a while. The waitress put the food down and scarpered without asking if we wanted anything else. Just an odd experience. Skipped drinks, coffee and desert and opted to do this at home. Had to apologise to our friends for the disappointing night.

Lovely cafe that does simple, well cooked food. They gave generous servings of good quality wine however not all advertised wine was available. Really friendly staff and a quirky cool interior.

Food was well cooked and tasty, place had a nice casual idiosyncratic vibe to it, service was friendly. Menu was perhaps a little limited for those on restricted diets. Sea bass in a chorizo sauce for example is obviously limited to eaters of both. No obvious gluten free options. These restrictions are more common these days, however it is quite a small place so forgiven.

Good food good dessert good portion and cheap for a Monday early dinner! Kind of place I'll have to bring the family back and start running through the menu.

Really good breakfast spot. ai has the full Scottish breakfast which was really reasonably priced and good quality ingredients. Coffee was pretty damn fine too. I was pretty early on a Sunday morning so didn't need to book but it's not a huge place and very good, so I would recommend booking. Visit, you'll love it. Dog friendly too.

A rare place: fabulous decor, interesting menu and great wine selection...where you are assured of a warm welcome by the lovely staff. Always a happy, inclusive atmosphere. A much needed addition to Portobello High Street.

What a great find. My partner and I stumbled across this place when on a visit to portobello. We were made to feel very welcome from the start by Alanna. We had a lovely bottle of red and I had the Passeys wagyu burger with home made burger sauce, delicious onion rings and wedges. Delicious! My partner had the most delicious steak cooked perfectly with rosemary which gave a subtle but delicious flavour. We then had biscoff cheesecake and a chocolate and orange torte which was so delicious! What a great place! A big shout out to Alanna and thanks to chef in the kitchen and his amazing dog barking talent as well as creating great food 😊

The Atmosphere is great, I love the design of the place and the great stuff, Alanna was so nice and useful. And the food was so impressive I had a steak that is taste out of this world. Like the fact that it is dog-friendly as well

We had the BEST Xmas dinner here for a work night out. Service was impeccable and the food was gorgeous! As someone with many dietary restrictions and intolerances, they really went above and beyond for me. I will definitely be back!

We could not have asked for a better or more enjoyable afternoon passing the time at Passey’s. Nick was great and made us feel like we were guests in his home. Although, I may be related to the namesake of this establishment (probably distantly 😃) my review here would be no different, either way. It was a highlight of our visit to Edinburgh (and Scotland generally).

Timed it perfectly on New Year's Day and got a table. Staff were great at accommodating 6 of us without a booking.

Great lunch here - we had Mac and cheese and king prawn and chorizo linguine; good size portions and served steaming hot! Coffee were delicious and hot. Try it!

Went in this little place and had a great meal. Lovely soup of the day and steak pie with mash and veggies. One little criticism could have done with a little gravy for the mash. I'm sure if I had asked they would have abilged. Lovely staff who were extremely attentive and happy. Lots of laughter in the background. Thanks guys

I choose a full breakfast..I think it was cooked in an air fryer As bacon, sausage, square sausage, black pudding and haggis were dry and hard and very salty.. Sadly I did not enjoy the meal.

the ribeyes overcook, we order medium but it is done. when we reflect to waitress(need wait long time to call help).she change and we wait more half hour. the new one better but still not medium cook and not enough hot just warm.i think maybe the steak too thin (about 1cm), but the price 23.x GBP. and the fries dried because fry again . The waitress never come to ask our opinion about the food during whole meal and did not ask me what sauce we want but i saw her ask others( white guys) others, the chicken curry plate ,chicken too dry and tough . drink : the draft beer not cool enough.

It was little costly I felt. Ordered veg burger I felt little odd taste. My wife orders steak she enjoyed the steak and drink.

Perfect Sunday lunch. Warm welcome. Lovely Cold Town lager. The roast beef was great but special shout out to the sage balls and yorkies 😋. Finished off with honeycomb and salted carmel cheesecake.

Highly recommended. My boyfriend and I visited for the first time this evening, and thoroughly enjoyed the Wednesday evening curry deal. We were made welcome and looked after by a friendly long-haired young man initially, and when his shift ended, a charming young woman called Lesley took over. Both were excellent and we were introduced to owner Gary too. We just moved to Portobello and after a faultless experience tonight I'm sure well soon become regulars.

This was such a lovely bistro that it was the only place we ate throughout our stay in Portabello, Edinburgh. The food was excellent. The staff extremely friendly, welcoming and the service was first class. Small but with a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Cannot recommend this eating place highly enough. Thank you to all the staff and compliments to the cook.

Cam to Portobello for the 1st time and have now eaten there 2 days running. Good food, good company and a lot of laughs. A home from home, relaxed and made to feel like like we are here every night. Food is good staff and owners warm and friendly highly recommended.

My friend Jacquie and I have just had the most fabulous afternoon tea here. Our fussy needs catered for without question, and beautifully presented. We were served by Natalie who was very attentive and so friendly. Thank you so much to all the staff involved in making this a special occasion. We look forward to seeing you all again next month.

Really great and tasty food, well prepared and good range of options, including veggie and vegan. For me, Wagyu burgers were excellent! A good range of cocktails (done well!) and the wine selection is also very good. The excellent and friendly service from Leslie made the whole evening a pleasure. Highly recommended, and worth going out of your way to visit.

Yet another fabulous meal again tonight at Passey’s. Mac and Cheese so filling and delicious. Husband had Wagyu burger and he said it was delicious! Great service as always. We will definitely be back, fancy the Curry or Steak night!

After attending a local production in Portobello Church, we wandered along to find somewhere to eat. We thought we'd try Passey's. They didn't disappoint. Great service, lovely food and ambience just right! I shall return again. Thank you!

Great vibes and delicious dishes

Passey's is a reason to visit Portobello. Tip: The bistro is often fully booked and so I recognize booking ahead for any celebration. There's no question what a friendly and welcoming place Passey's is. The rainbow flag outside is a clear indication of that. I found the venue when people kept pulling that very flag down and I wanted to show my support. Karma must be a thing because my near token gesture revealed to me one of my favourite places to eat in Edinburgh. For me, it's a 90 walk, one way, to Passey's. It's worth it but the friendly welcome, knowing there's a comfortable chair, at a clean table, in a warm and relaxed indie restaurant is all the more important. But, it's the food that keeps me walking back. Tip: Check and be thoroughly tempted by the Specials board. I've never had less than a five star meal here. British food, Asian, Cajun, etc, etc, Passey's has a rotating menu and an impressive range. The portions are always generous even if nothing fills my stomach void. Dessert, I'm sure, will tempt everyone too (stomachs voids or not) because it looks great and the taste lives up to it. The wee restaurant off the high street is open fairly late too. Tip: Try the coffee. I've bought literal bags of their beans.

This is a lovely little local bistro - decor is quirky and current, good friendly vibe and busy which is always a good sign. Upon arriving the 2 waiters were lovely, welcoming and instantly made you feel like you belonged - perfect for a local eatery. We opted for the beef and the nut roast. Sadly the food wasn't brilliant. The beef was tuff and the nut roast soggy and tasted strange. That said, the veg was lovely, the veggie gravy super tasty. The 2 welcoming waiters left half way through service resulting in a drop in service standards - it all became pretty basic after that with us having to ask to see the dessert menu ( even though it was a set menu ). We ordered the biscoff cheesecake and plum tart. The cheesecake was good but the tart soggy both the crumble top and pastry bottom - I was told this wasn't warmed in a microwave but definitely had that look about it - in taste this was fine. Coffees were good - strong and flavoursome. I wanted this to be so much more than what we experienced - I would definitely go back for coffee/cake ( they had some interesting options on display) but not sure re the meal. The man serving us towards the end of the meal told us he had only started a couple of weeks ago and hadn't tried the food yet - I guess there's potential for things to improve. Everybody/where deserves a second chance....
