Had a takeaway plenty of food and tasted delicious made 2 meals for us. Worth every penny.

Great meal booked with minimal notice. It was only for my wife and I, but were offered various seating locations. The meal was flavoursome and fresh; full-bodied chicken tikka which is used in all chicken meals. Good sized portions and naan breads. The staff were attentive and pleasant too. The price of the meal was within reason. This small area has two very good Indian restaurants, plus dedicated takeaway, and the Passage to India compares well with them both. I will say there is (free evening) parking outside and across the road so conveniently located. Upminster Bridge station, plus the 248 and 370 bus routes are also 20m away.

Good food, maybe more veggie/fish options would be beneficial, really nice restaurant just a shame about a table of lads that were so loud we had to shout over our table to hear each other and we were the other end of the restaurant!

New to the area. Spotted two Indian restaurants near Upminster Bridge so took pot luck. Came up trumps! Amazing place. Obviously busy on a Saturday night but managed to fit us in. Great food, great contemporary background music, spacious seating. Easy to book too! Booking is something I always struggle with because most Indian restaurants are old school and you have to phone them. This place you can book online and they call you back to confirm everything is ok. Nice touch. Will make this a regular now.

Lovely food served by people who care . That's all you can ask for really . Oh and prices were competitive as well considering the locality

What a great place to eat with friends & family. Amazing traditionally cooked dishes from northern & southern India & so much to choose from, dietary requirements met for some of our party so they could also enjoy the food aswell. Friendly staff & bubbly cheerful atmosphere that I'd highly recommend👍👍 Thankyou Passage to India for making it a really wonderful experience, will definately be going back

This was a recommendation, but will not be back, food ok but my madras tasted like a korma, no heat at all, waited 45min for food.

A few of us visit here on a regular basis, and Altaf and the gents always look after us. Even before we became regulars, the first meal Was great and the service top tier. Recommended for families and friends, food is great and spice level is accurate. The onion bhajis are some of the best I’ve had. Mention for the garlic chilli chicken too. Thanks Altaf and team

If you’re in the area and you want excellent friendly service and great tasting food, pop in and enjoy your meal. A couple of fussy people in the group but they adjusted the food to accommodate their tastes and preferences. Definitely recommend a visit.

Brilliant food amazing atmosphere but the staff are just rude. One waiter kept coming over and was just starring at us for a short time then walking off again (we hadn't looked at him or called him over) the service is pretty slow but worth the wait for pretty decent food. The waiting staff on this visit rolled their eyes when we asked to take some food away stood there and just kept saying to pass this and to pass that but wasn't making an attempt to be polite will not be returning

Visited for a family treat and was deeply disappointed. Service was slow/ non existent considering there was more waiters than customers. We had the misfortune of being served by an older waiter who had the charisma of a plain Nann bread. Eventually had our mains cleared and the waiter just said are you having ice cream ? I said it’s difficult to choose without being given any dessert menus . They left the table full of rice and whatever else dropped of our plates after cleaning our mains , so we just decided to pay and leave. Definitely better Indian restaurants around that will look after you.

Great food and service we had a party of 20 plus people and the food and service was first class. My first curry in the UK for 6 years and I wasn't disappointed.

Havent been for a while but thought i wanted to try something different so tried Butter chicken oh wow its my new fav over tandoori mixed grill. Loved all the tastes. Cant wait to eat it again. Fabulous service as always. Great place to eat out. Would def recommend.

Had a lovely meal with the partner tonight. Beer, vodka lemonade, popadoms and great dips, mixed starter, saag aloo, chicken balti, meat jalfrezi, 2 play rice, keema naan, and peshwari naan all for just under £60. The staff were incredibly lovely and even cracked some funny jokes and made us feel super welcome! J'adore! Thank you.

Came with my family to celebrate my wife's birthday. The service was excellent and the staff were very helpful and polite. Drinks arrived quickly after being seated and the food was delicious! Highly recommend the chicken bhuna. My sons don't really enjoy spicy food and the waiter helped suggest options that they could have (which they enjoyed!) 10/10 will be coming back here VERY soon

The title says it all, really. There is plenty for everyone on the menu, but the thing that sets this place apart is the textures of the sauces and massalas - they have to be tasted to be believed. I went for the chicken tikka with green chill which was amazing. The other thing is that their side dishes - which are often of poor/mediocre quality in many restaurants - are wonderfully simple and tasty and, like the mains, benefit from these unique textures to the accompanying sauces. One thing that could be improved is the waiters - they all wear different clothes which does not look at all smart.

Basic food. Not enough spice or flavour.

What a awful experience . Dumped at the end of the restaurant and service was appalling . Ordered 6 poppadoms , 3 turned up. Had a round of drinks , then ordered another and surprise surprise they didn’t turn up . Then the meals for 4 people arrived but of course 1 was missing . Not a care in the world . Then to top the evening off . The 2 round of drinks that never arrived were added to the bill , together with an additional glass of wine that also never happened. If you do visit , check the bill and take some sandwiches incase your meals don’t arrive

Food has gone down the pan. I’ve been using the Passage since the day they opened. I have told everyone I know over the years and taken groups of 10+ there a few times to show off how good it was. Never again. I have been twice in the last 5 weeks and both times were very substandard. It is time to find somewhere new.

Great food , Friendly and attentive staff.

Seems they want to get as many through door at any cost. No compliance, shields half way up their face, no track and trace, no sign of anti bac except one hand spray at the door, whole place rammed with more being allowed in, nearly 50% of walk-ins without masks and not asked to comply with guidelines. Shame after being a loyal customer for 30+ years.

This is the best Indian in the area in my opinion. The food is so fresh and tasty and the service is always first class.

Rubbish food, had to do along wait after ordered. Been there last night, ordered aalu saag rht was nothing looked like even tasted like aalu saag. They dont know gow to make riata even curry was tasteless. I will not recommend tgis restaurant to anyone who loves indian food.They dont know how to cook indian food.even the most famous dushes of indian was missed in their menu.such a bad experience i had last night. Regretting now.i wouldn't even gave a 1 star if i could.

Many people, including friends, rave about this restaurant. My experiences have been mixed: sometimes good, sometimes disappointing. My wife and I went here last Wednesday, taking advantage of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. The place was packed, even at 6 pm. I had a lamb jalfrezi, my wife had a lamb biryani. The sauce in my curry tasted very rich, almost sugary and not at all authentic. The vegetable curry in my wife's biryani was inconsistant: one mouthful bland and the next fiery. The meat was bland. The service was good, as always, and terrific value because of the scheme. There are better Indian restaurants in the area.

Came here on one of the eat out to help out nights and was very impressed, the place was busy, but that is the case everywhere now due to offer. Food was excellent nice and tender and hot, I loved the Rubiyan Murgh just Lovely! The place is clean and has a great atmosphere, really missed it during the lockdown. Social distancing not an issue as the place is huge! Best in town.

Previously enjoyed our meals here but the last 2 have been poor. This time we visited during the eat out to help out scheme. We had booked thinking that they would obviously have some kind of social distancing in place but they had not, the restaurant was packed, tables far too close together. I know it was busy but whilst taking our order the waiter was completely distracted hence many wrong dishes bought out. The madras sauce was inedible as it was just basically a runny fluid, the nan bread stale. Four of us ate and we were all very disappointed. Think we may go to the Raj of India over the road in the future.

Food was lovely, Social distancing was non existent!! We had people literally sitting on our lap waiting for tables.

Usually good food but poor tonight. The chicken in the tikka starter was very dry, The korai was red, usually brown in most places I’ve been and the chicken was also very dry. Maybe just a poor night at the office.

Nice food definitely but slow service and prices too high!

I made my first order for takeaway this evening. Food was piping hot and absolutely delicious. The coriander prawns were huge, juicy and full of flavour. The dishes were so flavoursome, and all had individual flavour, unlike some other restaurants where everything tends to blend into one taste. My children cleaned their plates! I will 100% order again and I highly recommend this restaurant! Very satisfied customer 😋 thank you.

If it’s a takeaway or sitting in the restaurant the food is always great. Staff are friendly and professional, Tried a few Indians but this is definitely the best.

I walked into the restaurant and i was instantly blown away by the amazing aesthetic of the place, i was so blown away that i started eating the tables and chairs. Unfortunately, i was thrown out by the big Indian chef, overall 4/10 for the big mean Indian

This is hands down the best Indian restaurant I've been too since I moved, the staff are super accommodating and very friendly, service times are very good and the food was the most delicious example of Indian cuisine that I have ever tasted. 100% recommended!

Recently visited this restaurant and had a great evening with family, welcomed from the start drinks served quickly, was recommended some of the specials from the very friendly staff and lovely food, this restaurant has been there for many years and I can see why.

We visited this restaurant while out celebrating our wedding anniversary, read great reviews and felt we had to try it as it seemed nicely decorated and modern. I must say from the moment we walked in to when we left the whole experience was quality.Staff we’re all great and friendly and food seemed really nice and fresh, the portion sizes were excellent. The staff all seemed happy and engaging which is a must for any business to survive in the food service sector. Will be returning with family and friends soon.

I have been coming to this establishment for the past 20 years started coming and when I was younger and I started eating a chicken korma and I still love a chicken korma to this day. This restaurant has always been giving us good service always a nice clean atmosphere food was always tasty and fresh. I normally visit once a week with family and friends and have even been eating in there on some occasions by myself and this place always delivers. The restaurant always seems to be busy so I would recommend anybody first booking up especially on the weekends, as they can be queues which lead up to the door excellent! The service is excellent and hope they keep it up!!

Quite honestly the worse curry I have tasted. All of the dishes I ordered were awful, all of the food tasted like it came of a packet. I wouldn't be surprised if this restaurant buys the food from a large catering company and then adds a few onions, chillis and peppers for good measure. The food was bland but with an extensive hit of hot curry, which indicates to me that the food hasn't been cooked from fresh ingrediants, you couldn't taste the different spices etc, which you can usually taste when eating a curry. The food didn't even smell of curry. I should have returned the food and asked for my money back. Even the naan bread tasted awful! Extremely disappointed and would never go back.

Staff and venue are top rated, very clean, well laid out, not all on top of each other. Staff went above and beyond to give my wife the best introduction to their food and hospitality. My wife likes fairly normal plain food no spice/ heat etc. They helped her pick foods that would be suitable to her palette. We all thoroughly enjoyed, my wife recommends this place to our friends and family and can’t wait to return

Booked a table for 6 people at the end of September for 26 October. When we arrived there was no table booked in my name. However they managed to sit us. Restaurant was very busy and getting waiters attention was challenging. Food was good. Lamb Rogan was amazing. Drinks are not good however. I had at least 5 vodkas but didn't feel that tipsy. The bill presented to us was just the order form with a Lot of extra numbers scribbled on it so you have no way of knowing really what you're paying for. Not well organised.

Was here recently for evening meal, lovely dinner service, tablecloths and napkins, Had the Cauliflower Bhaji. which was delicious.

Oh my, the food is fantastic. I'm not well versed with the Indian cuisine but I was brought here by a colleague and will absolutely visit again. I tried the lamb buhna and tikka masala, both were absolutely delicious, and really warrant future visits, I'd highly recommend!

Had a rare sat eve off work so hubby decided to treat me for a meal out.We decided on passage to india as its local friendly with good service and lovely food.It was very busy but still served with great customer service and we both had 2 course meal which we both enjoyed. I love their tandoori mixed grill so decided on that. Hubby had king prawn korma and both were delicious. Looking forward to our next visit soon.

Excellent service and very helpful staff helping us with choices of dish and flavours. Food quality is very good, also a fair amount so room for desert. Will definitely be back with friends.

Not been to an indian restaurant for years, quite pleasantly pleased, went off the normal curry and tried something new , very tasty and fragrant, friendly staff.

Normally have a take away from this restaurant but last night 7 of us went for my birthday, table booked for 19.30 just as well because it was packed which created a good vibe the service was spot on drinks arrived in good time and was given plenty of time to browse the menu I went for the Thali for one and the none vegetarian one and all though their was a lot of food I finished all of it as was lovely my wife had chicken shashlick which she enjoyed the rest of the party all enjoyed their meals ,we all enjoyed a great night out and will go back soon

Visited on a Sunday evening. We were all very happy with service, food and portion sizes. My daughter requested a curry that was a little too spicy and requested the curry to be less spicy. Curry served to perfection. We all enjoyed our meals. We have also had take away from this restaurant which was also very good Quite pricey but worth it as food is excellent.

Had a takeaway from here. Food was amazing. But pricey but worth it compared to other curry houses.

This has been my go-to Indian restaurant of choice for nearly 15 years now, I've tried loads of places in the general Havering area (and nearly all of the ones in Hornchurch and Upminster/Cranham), and found nothing so consistently excellent.

We have been customers for over 2 years enjoying our Saturday night take away treat, the food is always excellent, my favorite being the Tandoori king prawns which are amazing, the owners and staff are very professional and genuine in a nice way.

I have visited The Passage a number of times and have generally been satisfied. We know that it is expensive, but generally the portion size is good and the quality of food good. This time, however, I was not so satisfied. I ordered a meat dansak, which generally has quite a contrast in flavours: the sweet and the sour. This time it was just bland, like something you might buy in a supermarket. I appreciate that they are catering to middle class, white customers who might not appreciate the pungent flavours of Bangla Desh so much, but please, can they not serve dishes with a bit more 'bite' to them?.I ate a Vindaloo in there recently and it was pretty tame. Also, the guy who mentioned the abundance of salt was spot on. Service was excellent.

Visited with friends this evening and they all enjoyed their meals the atmosphere was ok but they need to stop playing Debenhams store shopping music and put on some traditional indian music instead.

I have been eating here {eat in or takeaway } for 25 years at least and have never had a bad meal at all not once Service is excellent just book before u go because it's a popular choice for lots of people

Visited this restaurant on a Friday night. Was quite busy. Had a good atmosphere and was a nice clean, modern looking restaurant. Waiters all polite, helpful and friendly. Food was well presented with a good selection with good size portions. Will be visiting again.
