Food was absolutely delicious. Service friendly and attentive. We missed eating before the theatre and staff were kind enough to let us eat in the last hour before closing, with a warm welcome. A lucky turn of events for us as the food was superb and it is a lovely restaurant. They even adapted the menu, adding saag to my chicken dish. I highly recommend Passage to India and will definitely return.

Passage to India or Passage to the Inferno? After hearing that this establishment had close links to a hidden gem of a curry house on the east coast of Edinburgh, the Curry Kings decided to roll the dice, as they often do, with a smirk and a wink. The ordering process was like a surreal Lynchian dream—simple and enticing, with familiar dishes leaping off the screen, promising a feast that would make our taste buds pirouette with joy. The delivery driver arrived, smiling like a character from Twin Peaks, earning a solid 5 stars for the uncanny, yet pleasant, experience. The dishes themselves were a visual delight, a tableau that David Lynch himself might have filmed... The starters—onion bhajis and vegetable pakoras—kept the dream alive, exactly as we had imagined in our strange, culinary reveries. But then, the nightmare began. The butter chicken, a classic dish, seemed to have been tampered with by forces unknown. Full of diced vegetables, it was dry and underwhelming, as if dragged through the Black Lodge and back. The Ceylon, arguably the best dish, was a mix of sour and heat that transported me to an early summer daze, with one foot in the sunlight and the other in a shadowy corner. Yet, the meat was again a major disappointment, a phantom of what it should have been. The North Indian dish promised so much, with a look that could tempt you to forsake all else. However, the lamb was as tough as old boots, and one of our guests jokingly produced a sledgehammer to try and tenderize the beast. This was the one we thought would fill the void, the missing piece in our culinary puzzle, but alas, the search continues. This might fool the pre-theater crowd and one-stop tourists, but your friendly neighborhood Curry Kings will hold you accountable. The search continues after a poor start to the 2025 curry trail, as the haunting echoes of disappointment linger in our minds.

Excellent meal. Regularly ate in Indian restaurants across Scotland during last 40 years and this is one of the best. Beautifully cooked king prawns. Tarka Dhal, always a test of Indian restaurant quality, was delicious, lovely soft lentils with savoury sauce.

Probably the best curry we have had in ages, fresh tasting, beautiful flavours the women who served us was lovely and a credit to the business. 5 🌟

Last night order the famous butter chicken it was very sweet and awful Chapati were like 3 inches thick Very bad food Biryani was still ok but rest of the food was pathetic!!

I had a very pleasant experience at Passage to India. I went three times and I was never disappointed or dissatisfied ! I recommend the butter chicken, however I know that other dishes are very good ! The service is great as well ! The waiters are welcoming 😃I hope to come back some day !

A nice restaurant with a reasonable price compared to other restaurants. I liked the tikka masala once. Its taste was not that good. Regarding the biryani rice and the butter chicken, it was delicious. Maybe the items I haven’t tried from them yet are delicious. The restaurant overall was good.

Absolutely horrible staff who discriminates customer based on where they are from... waited for over half an hour after walking up to the reception to order and noone even bothered to inform of delays. People way after us had left while we waited for food. Even when we left there wasn't even an apology from the reception :)

Well done! I have been dining here frequently and a few dishes are exceptional. To begin with their starters, the dishes that stand out to me are their paneer chili starter and paneer tikka starter. Their service is also excellent, and the staff is very helpful. I would highly recommend this place, and it is completely worth spending my money.

Well one of my party had a poperdom sticking out of his mouth the 2nd inhaled spicy curry and died and the the third said it was the creamiest korma they ever had, and I was the only one who had alcohol so overall 10/10 would come again

The driver was parked outside a shop saying he could not find the address. The address is on a Main Street and very easy to find. Food is now cold. His bag was also not sealed shut allowing cold air in and not keeping the food hot.

I've visited this restaurant many times and I would highly recommend it. The staff are so welcoming, friendly and professional. It's excellent service here. The food is exceptional. There are so many options and many for vegetarians. The paneer butter masala is delectable. I'm also a huge fan of the peshwari naan. The atmosphere here is relaxed and comfortable. It's one of my favourite restaurants and one of the best Indian restaurants in Edinburgh.

wasn't a good experience, they left an item out called them and they told me to apply for a refund through just eat. I did as requested and the refund was declined I'm now deleting this app and won't be ordering through it again I've spent quite a bit of money at this restaurant it is a good one however after phoning them following what they advised I'm now worse of financially so all in all they've stole money and nit returned .

Don’t know if it’s the same management or changed. All I can say is 2 pieces of paneer in whole main paneer butter masala. Tasteless food, absolutely ripping on the name of authentic food.

We booked online having recently arrived for a short break. The dining and hospitality was amazing. The food was very good and plenty of it. I would highly recommend this place for a great night out and culinary experience. Thank you for your hospitality and hopefully we will get back one day.

The biryani was amazing, full of flavors, and the Karahi was out of this world. As for the butter chicken, it was just okay compared to the others. Overall, it was an excellent and delicious experience. I'd love to come back!

We ordered Karahi paneer, chilli chicken, special fried rice, Bombay aloo and garlic naan. We’ve been ordering from this restaurant quite a few times and it’s one of the best Indian restaurant in the town.

We came here after a show at the Edinburgh playhouse - had an amazing dinner of chicken tikka masala, chicken korma, peshawari and plain naan and onion bhajji. We ate till we were stuffed The staff was super friendly and attentive. They asked after allergies and double checked with us on it. Surendra and Varsha made the evening so enjoyable for us . We will be back here the next time we are in Edinburgh.

Being vegetarian, I would recommend everyone to go to this restaurant. Food is simply delicious but little bit over priced. Serving time is something which can be improved.

We ate at 5pm on a Tuesday, so the restaurant was very quiet. We were greeted in a friendly manner which was maintained throughout. The bhaji we started with were disks rather than balls, allowing them to be perfectly crisp. We had a wet main and a dry one, and we're correctly advised that one came with rice, so we didn't need to order more rice. The naan we ordered was huge, and more than my wife could manage. The lamb was perfectly tender in sauce (forgot which one, sorry), and the chunks of tandoori chicken were succulent and generous. They get good business when the Playhouse has a show but deserve more with such as the Stand comedy clubs being nearby. A short walk from the St James Quarter is well justified, given the poor food we had there.

The center is so busy, but when you come in here it is very quiet. Very relaxed. Staff is super friendly. You will immediately be given some water to drink. Are very courteous. Super!!

Amazing food with authentic taste, must visit.

This restaurant is a 2 minute walk from Holiday Inn Express , Edinburgh City Centre which was quite convenient to us. On entering the restaurant, we were warmly greeted by a friendly staff while the place looked very clean and tidy. We ordered Palak Paneer and Chana Masala along with Chapati’s (Wheat bread) and Raita. Everything was hot and delicious specially the Chana masala. When we told the server that Chapati’s were a bit hard, they immediately replaced with a fresh one with a smile on their face without charging us extra, great gesture! The prices were very reasonable while the quantities were sufficient for two people. You can’t go wrong with this one where brilliant food accompanies a very friendly service.

We loved this place. The food was fantastic, the ambience was nice, the location was great & the service was just perfect. It’s right next to the Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh City Centre in Picardy place which also has a tram stop. We tried vegetarian Madras, Jalfrezi, Dal Tadka, Biryani & poppadum during our 3 day stay & the food was awesome & genuinely Indian. Follow the menu marking for hot spicy or mild. Rates are reasonable @GBP 25-30 for 2. While I don’t have all the names, Mamta & Varsha hosted us well & made good recommendations on quantity. Thank you to the team of Passage of India for igniting our taste buds!

Great for any occasion. Extremely lovely staff who are very attentive, friendly and caring. The food is also amazing and very flavourful. The whole has restaurant has a lovely atmosphere with authentic food. We had a lovely server, Bikal, who has served us many times before and each time the service gets better and better alongside the food.

First time getting a takeaway from here and it was phenomenal. Dishes were flavourful and portions were great. Really impressed, hope to eat in, in future as can only imagine it's just as good if not better.

Fantastic experience! Tried paneer butter masala with chapatis and vegetable biryani. Excellent quality and quantity. We liked it so much that we had 2 back to back dinners here. Varsha and Mamta were very polite and helpful. I would definitely visit this on my next trip to edinburgh and would recommend this to everyone.

We were travelling through Europe and this was our first taste of great indian food in weeks. Haggis samosas were a first for us and very delicious. Chicken madras for main was flavourful and very spicy. Heed the chili levels shown on menu.we normally go for 2 chili's but this was hotter than normal but still super enjoyable. The food in passage to India was amazing. We had ordered Himalayan Momo, Dal makhni and jeera Rice. Loved it. The staff named Bikal was kind and welcoming. Highly recommended.

Ordered online and it came quick and with a complimentary flatbread and dips! Very tasty, though not like any tikka masala I've ever had and with absolutely no spice/heat. Though perhaps I would have had to request that somehow.

This is my favourite Indian restaurant in Edinburgh I was there with a friend on the 15th March for my birthday and as usual had a marvellous meal with the usual exceptionally service and kindness that is the hallmark of this restaurant.

Nice indian dinner! We were 2 people and shared 2 starters (vegetable pakora and cheese cubes with onion and pepper...amazing) and 2 main dishes (lamb madras and fish curry). Everything was really tasty. We love spicy food, but be careful because if it indicates that is spicy it really is ;-)

I just been to this hotel, the food & Service was excellent. I am in Edinburgh for last 4 days for leisure. In serch of Indian food, i been to both the ' Dhishum ' & ' Moglie ', the so called Indian food restaurants , however the food quality was So So but the prices were exorbitant & today i discovered this ' Passage to India ' restaurant and was surprised with quality of food & Service. Highly recommended for real Indian taste👍. . A born foodie Indian 🥸.

Absolute Gem of a place. Went for a pre-theatre meal. The staff were really helpful ( one of us has a nut allergy) withe the menu. The atmosphere was pleasant. The food was brilliant - you should go and try the Himalayan Mo:Mo starter - something completely different and tasty. My wife had a Biryani and I had the Garlic Chilli Chicken. Both were extremely tasty, well cooked and well spiced. We'll definitely be heading back next time we're in town.

Booked a table here for Saturday 2nd March for 3 people. Staff were welcoming and pleasant. 2 of us had chicken tikka and the 3rd had a chicken biryani. We shared a plain naan bread between us. All 3 of us really enjoyed our meals. All the food was fresh and very tasty. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone who was thinking of eating here.

Every city break we take has to take in an Indian meal. We were lucky that we found this place last year and we found our way back there again tonight Edinburgh is awash with Indian restaurants and everyone and his uncle has their favourite and no two people will recommend the same one We took pot luck last year and for us it’s perfect Tonight’s meal was as good as we thought it would be. Perhaps better He always has a chicken tikka masala . I can never decide , I wanted a Patia tonight , not on the menu - not a problem Rice was superb , massive grains ( always a good sign ) poppadoms light as a feather and all the pickles very very different ( so many places they all taste the same ) Mains were truly good , so good we were toying with ordering another naan to wipe the dishes clean of gravy. And whilst the gravies were out of this world , the chicken still shone through. Add to the mix a wonderfully friendly and chatty waitress ( not in your face ) and it was just a lovely evening meal Will definitely return when back visiting the city

We were waiting for the delivery, we didn't receive anything, they told us that it was uber eats fault, but we have lost 25£... They didn't give us any solution.

Food tasted OK after reheating. Arrived luke warm. Driver called to get us to come down the stairs to collect despite us being in PJs. Ordered from this place multiple time and they usually just put on hazards and run up. The time it took us to get shoes on to go down for it, he was parked and could have come up with it indicating he was just lazy. Really grudge the £5 tip now and I feel the restaurant should have words with the driver.

Passage To India has been a welcome discovery, I'm a big fan of British Indian food and I consider it to be a step up from the others in the area. I've had the pleasure of eating their food 3 times now and it's consistently excellent. The curries are rich, flavourful, full-bodied and well seasoned.
