Excellent breakfast deal with itison. Delicious food. Excellent staff.

This is my second time visiting and both myself and mum had such a lovely meal and experience. I have been vegan over 10 years and recently have discovered I can no longer eat onions. The staff went above and beyond to ensure I could have something suitable without fuss. Thanks again. ☺️

First of all the food was amazing. We ordered from the lunchtime set menu as well 5 small plates and a Tom Ka soup..... We ordered FAR TO MUCH! We shared it all and loved every mouth full! The service was first class not to mention the views of Edinburgh Castle. It's not the cheapest but we thought it was very reasonable for for the food and the views. Brilliant, we will be back soon.

We enjoyed a dinner here with a beautiful view. Reservations are recommended. We had the shared platter as a starter, which tasted very good, only the shrimp was too fried. The main course was delicious! Apologies were offered for the long wait for the food, which was appreciated by us.

Breakfast with a wonderful view of the castle. Delicious eggs benedict, granola. Service excellent. Only comment is that drinks could be served earlier.

Absolutely worth a visit! The food was excellent and impressively close to authentic Thai cuisine. The atmosphere was warm and stylish, and the service was outstanding. I’ll definitely be back. One tip: if you’re sitting on the rooftop in the glasshouse, consider bringing sunglasses — it can get quite bright up there!

We are a couple. We asked the waitress if we could have a table by the window?. She told us that the table for 4 people. But after that another couple can sit at that table. There seems to be a double standard in the service

If you want to go to a posh place this is it, it is really beautiful, upmarket and comes with a view of the Edinburgh castle, the food is just outstanding, it is a place for special occasions, when I asked my formers in Edinburgh about a really good and posh place to eat most of them recommended Chaophraya and we were really pleased with the food, location, atmosphere and the hospitality.

Bowled over by the service and the food was absolutely amazing. The staff were super nice with young children. Food was well made and presented with good portion size. We didn’t have to wait too long either despite the place being really busy on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Will surely be back again.

Angus was a fantastic server! Highly reccommend the vegan chicken pad Thai, the portions are amazing.

Stunning food, waited a little time for our mains but the the manager took the liberty to discount our bill without us asking which I thought was a nice touch, I would have had no problem paying the full bill as the food was excellent even with the long wait. Will definitely return as the menu is so moreish.

Great Food with a View – A Wonderful Evening at Chaophraya We recently had dinner at Chaophraya in Edinburgh and had an absolutely lovely evening. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and shown to a beautiful table with a stunning view – the perfect setting to enjoy our meal and relax. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. You can tell that everything is prepared with great care and attention to detail. We especially enjoyed the Gai Gor Lae – tender and full of flavour – and the Pla Sam Rod, which was perfectly cooked with a sweet and sour sauce that balanced beautifully. The Khua Kling was another standout: spicy, aromatic, and wonderfully authentic. The only slight disappointment was the Som Tam (green papaya salad). It was fresh and crisp, but the flavour could have been a bit bolder and spicier – especially since we had mentioned that my husband is from Thailand. We were hoping for a bit more of that punchy, traditional taste. That said, it was still a good dish – just not quite at the same level as the others. Service throughout the evening was excellent – very friendly, attentive, and relaxed. We felt genuinely welcome and well looked after. All in all, a fantastic dining experience with delicious food, great service, and a view that made it all the more special. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Great food Great atmosphere Service took a while but lovely staff

We arrived and asked for a table for three and were asked to wait in the bar area. After checking with the hostess, as she hadn’t asked for our name, we were then told that they couldn’t seat us. Why we weren’t told we couldn’t be seated from the start was baffling…if we hadn’t asked, they would have left us sitting in the bar for hours. Terribly unprofessional, and bizarre.

Food was delicious & Angus service was great. So friendly & attentive. Amazing views & heaters put on when it got colder!

If you never tried thai food before you are going to love this place. If you like thai food then I do not recommend - flavour is good but far away from real thai and portions by it’s size are not meant to be shared.

The place is great if you get a seat outside on the roof terrace or with a view of George Street. The roof opens up on nice days too. Food however is nothing special and I would say overpriced. The drinks are good but the paper straws do not go well with slushie like ice. I wouldn't recommend it really nor come back again.

Having been before for dinner, thought we would try the breakfast menu. Only seating was in the Glass Box, no complaints getting a great view of the castle. Staff were friendly when taking our orders. I had the Refresh tea and Smashed Thai Avocado. Both were very refreshing and tasty with lots of lime in them, just to my taste. The Salt & Pepper Potato Scones were nice. I probably wouldn’t get the Thai egg spring rolls again but that’s just my personal taste. Would highly recommend going for breakfast or dinner. I’ve not tried their Thai Tapas & Lunch menu yet, but I will be back for this.

Mixed, two people quite enjoyed lunch menu but neither loved. I ordered off full menu and was not impressed, found food very average. Been a long time, and used to be a very much on our radar but won't be going back. As an aside, The wine prices are insane, not reflective of area and cross into rip off prices. It's a silly thing but added to my overall experience.

The place is amazing. Beautiful rooftop views of the city and the castle, amazing atmosphere and delicious food. The service is also prompt and curtious. Ross was great and looked after us well. Definitely will visit again!

The best Thai I've ever had! Ross was our waiter and he was incredible - so friendly, attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. Couldn't recommend this restaurant enough, especially if you get to sit on the terrace overlooking the skyline.

You can’t beat the view or ambiance at this beautiful restaurant. There were 5 of us raging in age group and we had superb food and drinks. Our server was Eduard and he was a pleasure to be served by. Very attentive and friendly with a great sense of humour. Thank you for the experience.

Lovely place for a meal, attentive service with plenty of staff available. Trendy setting and atmosphere. The biggest issue we had was the barrage of reminder reservation emails. On the day of our reservation I received 11 (no exaggeration) emails to remind us our take was reserved. Two of these emails arrived just after we’d arrived at the restaurant?!

Food wasn’t exceptional and experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Our server was pushy, constantly coming by to get us to order more drinks, yet I had to ask him to refill my water. In the end presented us a bill with a 12.5% “optional” gratuity already added. Uncomfortable and unpleasant.

Dear Chaophraya Edinburgh I am writing to express my deep disappointment with the experience I had at your restaurant on 05/04/2025, a visit that was meant to be a celebratory occasion—my birthday—which turned into a source of frustration and embarrassment. I had invited six guests to join me at your restaurant, having previously enjoyed positive experiences with you in the past. Unfortunately, this visit failed on nearly every front. The service was incredibly slow throughout the evening, with long waits between courses and inattentive staff who seemed overwhelmed and unprepared. To make matters worse, several items we ordered never arrived. Most notably, the birthday cake your team had promised in advance was never brought out. This was not only disappointing, but also embarrassing in front of my guests who were expecting a moment of celebration. Adding to the overall dissatisfaction, the quality of the food did not meet the high standard I had come to associate with your restaurant, especially considering the significant cost of the meal. The price paid simply did not reflect the level of service or quality of food received. I am truly disappointed that a special occasion was marred by what felt like a complete breakdown in service, planning, and hospitality. I had spoken highly of your establishment to my guests, and I now feel let down and embarrassed by how things turned out. I hope you take this feedback seriously and look into the issues that occurred during our visit.

Appart from service and atmosphere this is over rated doesn't teast like thai. I'm from thailand and this is overprice let down for me.

We had dinner in Chaophraya yesterday evening. The food was so good and service to match! The pork belly starter is amazing! Marcy was our waitress and she couldn't do enough for us! Also great location. We will probably go back today for lunch! Would highly recommend

I have never given a 1 star before, and to their credit the restaurant gave me full refund of the meal, so gets 2 stars to be fair. But, having booked a table for 20.15 to specially celebrate my daughter's 21st , we had to wait 20 minutes to get my table, and a further one hour to get our food. The icing on the cake was seated next to about 30 people drunkenly singing along with an amplified song track. Wtf ?! It's not about the money - you only get one chance to celebrate certain things. Night ruined.

Had a great time at champagne brunch deal! We had nice table with view on Edinburgh Castle! Our waitresses was friendly and lovely! Bless her has a glass disaster and we were kindly offered bubbly as an apology which was nice gesture! Good was delicious and we started our day in great atmosphere and in happy surroundings. Very Taiwanese style, but the taste is good🤣 But just eat in Taiwan, no need to come here hahahaha And £22 for appetizer + main course is a bit expensive

Our first time visiting, the overall experience was lovely. When we arrived, we were seated quickly, but unfortunately they had the terrace area are full. We ordered the lunch set from “Eat out Edinburgh”. Our meal was lovely, good taste and well dressed. On the other hand, the glass table view should be reserved well in advance as the view(during a sunny day) is so amazing and the seats are too limited. The services of the restaurant is also very inviting, offering a great evening ambiance. This place is unbelievable, it's so beautiful inside, and the food was equally unreal. I would definitely recommend going if you want to eat fancy Thai food, it will cost a bit, but the experience, atmosphere, and food will make up for it. We would definitely come back again.

Excellent food, but the evening was ruined by the abysmal service. Over 50 minutes wait for our main courses. The coffee offered as compensation was cold by the time it arrived. The waiter was pretentious and patronising.

Terrible experience! We waited nearly an hour for our food while others who arrived later were served before us. When the meals finally came, they were cold. The waitress never checked on us, and when we mentioned the issue while paying, she showed no concern or apology. Extremely disappointing service.

When we finally got the meals, they were very cold and tasteless.The waitress didn't bother to check on us how was the food. What we had Sharing starters for two: spring rolls, prawn tempura, chicken satay. Highlight was duck salad £22 Wasn’t a fan or tortilla in all honesty. I would’ve preferred Thai crab cakes within my sharing starters but this was not an option so ordered separately £7.60 That Green curry. This was excellent £14 King prawn Pad Thai £12 Waiting staff were very friendly. Overall we really enjoyed our meals & will certainly be coming back.

Overall for our first time visiting it was a lovely experience. However if you decide to take the stairs, there isn't any clear signage as it looks as though you're just heading through a service door. When we arrived we were seated quickly but unfortunately they had the terrace area closed due to how cold it was yesterday. I heard a few people asking why they couldn't be seated there but this can't be helped in cold weather conditions. Our meal was lovely and we would definitely come back again.

I've not had worst Thai food than this place. Highly overrated. Chicken was over cooked and super chewy. Even the jasmine rice was terrible. Give it a pass. The only saving grace is the food presentation. Quick update - their staff is super nice. When I shared my experience with the server, he promptly took the food back and offered a replacement. I ordered pad thai this time and it wasn't bad.

I just had an amazing meal here! The food, drinks, and overall vibe were top-notch, and I can't fault the cleanliness or the fabulous welcome we received. The only hiccup was the wait time between courses—it felt a bit long for starters, mains, and desserts. If they can speed that up, it would elevate the experience even more. Can’t wait to come back!

Visited for Valentine's day. Whilst the other reviews paint a wonderful experience, ours was a disappointment. Overall service was mixed, quite a nice and attentive waiter, but service delivery takes a fair while (20mins to get a water refill, 20 mins to pay the bill). Food was a major disappointment. The plates are plated beautifully but flavour and texture do not follow. The chicken satay skewers were rather blend, spring rolls were damp, the duck was extremely dry, our lamb curry watery and the meat overcooked. However, the cashew chicken and the tempura were extremely well executed. Well done! In all, Chaophrya has been blessed with a wonderful location with great facilities full of potential. However, food and service make it bitter sweet (also dry more often than not)

I visited with a colleague on Tuesday evening and had one of the best meals ever! The service was superb and can't recommend the whole experience enough. I left my reading glasses on the table and phoned as soon as I got back to my hotel. I was told they'd post them to my home address and they wouldn't accept any payment. Received them today, I'd like to say a big thankyou to whoever organised this for me and I'll certainly be visiting Chaophraya again when I'm next in Edinburgh. Excellent food and brilliant free postal service :)

Forgot to write a review last year but a recent memory of the amazing time myself and my girlfriend had here compels me to write one. It was for my girlfriend's birthday and I called up to asked if I could bring them a cake before hand, which they presented beautifully. The staff throughout were so kind and our waiter was very friendly. The food (pork belly dish) to this day was the best I've ever had and was well priced too as a student. Made a truly special evening and we talk often of having to return. Highly recommend to all (plus, what a view)

Had a delicious dinner and lovely experience at Chaophraya. Had the gaeng panang (beef panang) and the chaophraya sharing platter. Both were delicious and full of flavour. Also were sat with amazing views and lovely and attentive service from Mills. Highly recommend and will be back for more meals throughout the year.

Service a bit slow (45 mins from arrival) but friendly and the food was lovely. Suspect that they were short staffed today. Other than that, it was excellent.

Avoid This Place – Terrible Service, Unacceptable Wait Times Absolutely appalling experience. We were a group of 15 people, arriving at 5 PM, with the last guest joining at 6:30 PM. We confirmed our food order once everyone was present, yet by 7:30 PM, our main courses were still nowhere to be seen. By the time we finished our mains, we had to endure another 45 minutes before they bothered to clear the table and serve dessert. Meanwhile, smaller tables who ordered after us received the same dishes before we did—completely unacceptable and unfair treatment. Throughout the excessive waiting time, we had to chase for updates twice. The first time, at 7:15 PM, the waitress assured us she would check but never returned with an update. The second time, at 7:30 PM, she took another 15 minutes to come back and vaguely claim the kitchen was "speeding up." Clearly, she did absolutely nothing the first time we asked, by which point we had already been waiting over an hour. It felt intentional, as though they were stalling just to push us to order more drinks. The waitress showed no interest in actually serving us and only kept coming back to ask if we wanted to order more alcohol. To top it all off, the table wasn’t even properly set up when we arrived, we were the only ones without napkins, and the overall lack of care from the staff was infuriating. An utterly disappointing and frustrating experience. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere that actually values customers.

This place was excellent, from the ambience, the attentive staff to the delicious food and creative cocktails. We can't wait to visit again to try more of the food and cocktail menu!

The views are really special and the service was timely (if a little cold) but I found the food disappointing and not aligned with the prices. The tofu green curry came as cubed tofu heated through in a green curry sauce. The tofu wasnt fried or cooked in any special way - it had the consistency of tofu from the packet. There was very little in the way of vegetables - just a few small pieces of courgette and sugar snaps. The cost was £17.50 + £5 for rice. Our starter (sweetcorn cakes) was tasty but came with odd chunks of vegetables. The restaurant is fine but could do with a little care. The menus were tattered, paint had chipped off the table, and the glassware and cutlery felt quite cheap, which is not what I'd expect in a restaurant presenting itself as higher end. Would not return.

I have been to Chaopraya for the third time. They have an amazing view of Edinburgh castle. The quality of food has been consistently good over the last couple of years and my personal favourite is pork belly stir fry. Booking in advance recommended.

Omg, this is not only the best Thai food I have ever had, but the best steak I have ever had. I had the pork skewers to start, and the weeping tiger for main, the flavour was out of this world, I will always remember the amazing food, the atmosphere and amazing views of this place. 100% recommend.

After having visited myself one time, it was on the list to bring my parents for their trip to UK and Germany. The glass table view should be reserved well in advance as the view is amazing and tables limited. We were fortunate to get the best table in the house! THANK YOU TEAM! The food was equally amazing and matched the view and ambience of the restaurant. Simply everything on the menu is a worthy selection. The rest of the restaurant is also very inviting offering a great evening ambiance. If in Edinburgh, this is a must visit and enjoy the diversity of the town and amazing views!

Had previously been in the day and enjoyed great views over the city. This was our second visit and was at night. Food was excellent but the table was so dark we couldn’t read the menu, when food arrived we were literally stabbing around in the dark to find it. They then brought out a DJ. We’d gone for a nice night out not a club night. Will not visit at night again and save this venue for daytime.

If you get a table in the covered terrace overlooking Castle street, one gets stunning views of castle to the South and Firth of Forth to North. We had brunch which was good. Service very pleasant but slow.

The service was poor, we were placed behind a door near the bar, and no one approached us at all. Despite trying to call for attention, no one seemed to notice. Although there was an absence in that section, it shouldn't mean that staff from other sections should neglect their responsibility. The food was just average; Dusit and Rosa's are still better

We miss our fave Thai Chaophraya in Manchester so we were excited to visit the Edinburgh restaurant when on a new year break. Attentive service, seated in the glass box with lively castle backdrop! The food was just as good as we recalled & we ordered a load of classics including their delicate sweet & sour, classic green curry & starters. Lovely night in a special little restaurant

My husband picked here for our anniversary as he thought I’d like the views of Edinburgh castle and he had been on a business dinner. We arrived early and were seated immediately however we were seated in what can only be described as a corridor, with the cutlery behind me and the toilets along the same corridor - at night you can’t see the views as the blinds are down and we weren’t at the correct side for the castle anyway. Service was slow - in fact we are still waiting on the still water we ordered!! The food is lovely although this also came with its issue - my husband ordered the jungle curry but with lamb not prawns…it arrived with prawns! When we queried it we were told they couldn’t do lamb - at no point were we told that, we would have accepted another protein but it felt like they couldn’t be bothered to change it. The other massive issue was it was freezing - I watched people get their scarves and put them around their shoulders. Would I rush back? Absolutely not! The one in Glasgow is by far a nicer atmosphere.

The atmosphere was so classy and incredible as suitable to be called a dine in restaurant. Taste was good, especially Tom Yam Soup. A little bit pricey compared to food portions, specifically Jasmine Rice. A staff didn’t ask me how food it was and skipped my table to ask other tables instead (my table was between)
