I paid £10 for spaghetti pesto which was boiled spaghetti with a little bit of pesto out of a jar. Not fresh, nothing on the side. The coffee is horrible - bitter and thin. This cafe is in a great spot but really needs to up its game. The Lido Cafe just down the hill has proper coffee and very good food.

Staying locally for 10 days. My new favourite place for a sausage sandwich. Very friendly staff, decent foot. Coffee could be better but still fine. Very clean and staff are hardworking and making this place what it is. Will support this local business whilst in London. Well done and keep it up. Great place to visit 👍👍

The coffee is bitter and thin and completely undrinkable. I threw mine away and went to the Lido café down the hill for a MUCH more flavourful coffee. And the apple cake is amazing at the Lido one too. I had what looked like an apricot Danish in the parliament hill café but the apricot turned out to be a blob of apricot shaped jam. very generic, the lido café is far superior in almost every way. (there is some shade and more seating at the Parli café)

I haven't been in for a while but am glad to see this place hasn't changed much in 40 years. I had an aubergine parmigiana which was a large portion with plenty of aubergine, cheese and tomato sauce. It was good value at £8 as well as being delicious.

As a pasta lover I have travelled to Italy and Sicily - Rome, Firenze, Syracuse, Venice, Taormina etc and....I love eating pasta here. Their vongole and tomato is wonderful - slightly al dente pasta and a sauce that picks up a great amount of flavor from the clams, garlic, tomato etc...served hot and good size portion and....delicious!!!! Really I have been eating £18 a plate pasta in some trendy London places and the vongole tomato here is much, much better. I also tried the Fusilli with mozzarella and peppers - which I was hesitant about, not really being used to mozzarella in pasta and this was also delicious. Can't wait to work through the menu and would recommend to anyone. Unpretentious and delicious. Have a feeling that someone in the kitchen has a real flair for cooking. For making food tasty!!!!!

We went to the cafe yesterday as it is so convenient when visiting the playground. The food is fine, although my coffee was undrinkable which, considering it was made with a machine, is quite a feat. The problem with the cafe, and it may be that it was an exceptional 'off' day, is that some of the people working there give the impression they just don't want to be there. Almost to the point of rudeness. The location is convenient for walkers on the Heath, but 2 minutes away is a choice of friendlier places, so next time we will keep walking.

We were taken here by some family we were visiting in North London, a short walk from their home. The food was delicious, especially the pasta dishes and a very good selection of deserts too. Very well priced for central London - and live music on the bandstand. Very friendly, helpful staff. Oh... good coffee too!

This cafe may look a little unpretentious, but the food is delicious. The people of Hampstead have long known this, and campaigned long and hard to stop the restaurant from being replaced by a bland chain cafe. Now they’ve succeeded, they deserve our support. Simple Italian pasta and pizza, with some British standards, and good service.

This place is not fancy in any way, but if you’re looking for a nice English breakfast or plate of pasta at a reasonable price look no further. With all round views of the Heath, this little place is a gem. The sun dried tomato spaghetti is beautiful, as is the veggie breakfast (priced at £5.80, which is not bad for Hampstead prices.)

We visited the cafe on 8/3/17 and the food was awful. We ordered fish and chips. It was substandard frozen fish that was mush inside and breadcrumbs was fried to a dark brown shade.I am not a overly fussy type of eater and I seldom complain about anything really but I felt I had to if it stopped people ordering this meal from there. The tea and coffee were ok,thats the best I can say. Sullen staff that looked fed up and I felt sorry for them so we didn't make a fuss at the time.

My wife and I came here on Boxing Day and it was very busy with a warm cosy atmosphere. We had their meat lasagne which was a perfect Winter dish. It was a really good portion of delicious pasta and sauce beautifully baked and very tasty for £6.90 which is superb value. Their coffee is decent too. Service can be a little unfriendly sometimes but I have been coming here for 40 years and have never had bad food. My advice is stick to Italian dishes or breakfast dishes - the risotto is very good - but avoid things like fish and chips which will be done from frozen.

Having won the battle to be taken oven by a chain this cafe really needs to make some changes...Having enough staff at busy times - or a different serving system - it's not unusual to queue for 40 minutes for a cup of coffee on a weekend ( and then not be able to find a seat).Making a good cup of tea - at the moment milk is added with the teabag so it never has a chance to brew.Moving dogs and their owners/walkers to a space well away from the entrance so children and non-dog-owners don't have to walk past them.Creating a beautiful a environment to sit in with some perennial planting of herbs etc.Considering the kind of food people are eating at thriving local places eg the Farmers' Market next door, Kalendar, The Bull and Last, the Southampton Arms, The Vine.

We usually take a picnic on our trip to Hampstead Heath but this time we decided to try the cafe. We had tuna sandwiches which were better than any supermarket ones, very generous with their filling I must say. We ate three times in this cafe during the summer and would definitely recommend going. There are tables inside and out in the garden. Doge are welcome in the outside on a lead. The only fault I had were the chips, a bit soggy and pale. During hot summer days be prepared to queue.

Went here with a friend today. Managed to get a table outside which was good as it was busy. Self service system was fine. However my mozarella, avocado and tomato salad was tasteless. It needed basil and decent dressing at least. My friend's tuna salad was slightly better but not very well presented, and included glutinous cous cous. Again, not tasty. The cakes looked good with plenty of variety but we did not sample them.

The pasta here is delicious, I usually go for the courgette pasta, though the spaghetti with tomato sauce is good too. Last time I went my friend had salad and chips and the chips were very good. I like my coffee and last time I was here it was good as long as you order something small and strong like a machiatto. The staff are friendly and I like the atmosphere - totally unpretentious and young and old meet here. I love the (60s?) building and decor too. I'm so glad it's not being taken over by yet another benugo (who seem to run the cafes in practically all of our cultural and public spaces).

I heard about the retenderng process and went today to support this family run business. I'm sorry to say, against all my socialist and localisation principles, this place needs to be handed over to a new owner! We queued 20 mins, got the the front, ordered coffee then found they stopped breakfast and we had to order lunch! We couldn't leave as we'd already ordered coffee! We grabbed a ciabatta and waiting 15 mins for it to be toasted! Worst food I've had in years! Both were burnt black and the filling was pathetic, cheapest possible wafer thin ham, and NOTHING else! Absolute rip-off, give it to Benugo or anyone else rather than the present owners!

This cafe is a local landmark and deserves more than to be turned into a Benugo. It should be photographed and remembered! I have always thought fondly of this place. I decided to visit with my mum in the week having heard that it is soon going to be handed over to the chain. We went for a walk around the park and then stopped here for a drink. We got two cans of coke which we drank out of plastic cups outside. It was clear that no care had gone into our visit. The sandwiches behind glass looked old. I can imagine seeing this cafe in a Martin Parr exhibition. However, this place is important to the people that use this public space. It is an outrage that the cafe was not sold to someone who knows what this cafe is all about and who would really put effort into this place. I doubt that Benugo will keep any of the original features and so I urge everyone to visit before it's gone. It is going to be sorely missed.

For years I've visited this cafe from way back when young to this present day (well over 30 years) and it saddens me to say that over the recent years these experiences haven't been great. Myself and the family visited yesterday whilst the sun was out and although they may have been unprepared for the nice weather/increased numbers the waiting time for the queue to order was beyond ridiculous (close to 20 mins). Upon trying to order we were told several things we wanted were not available (perhaps due to the imminent change over of owner) which was a real shame. Fortunately the time from ordering to service wasn't too bad and the food itself was okay. I've enjoyed this cafe back in the day but yesterday's experience just highlighted some of the reasons why a new, incoming owner might not be such a bad thing.

I have been coming here for around 35 years and it has not changed at all! It is a basic park cafe that does excellent home cooked hot food at very reasonable prices. My Father had an excellent and large portion of mushroom risotto and I had a lovely aubergine parmignani - both for about £7. Most of the pasta is £6.50 or thereabouts and in the past it has been very good. I had a double machiato which was very very strong with a good foam. The service is tolerant rather than friendly and the nearest loos are 50 metres away but I am a big fan of this place so a 5* rating. This place is good for kids and dogs. There is lots of outside seating some of which is undercover and there is also a fenced off play area.

After a disappointing lunch at the Bull and Last 4 f us went to the cafe for coffee and ice-cream. The coffee was terrible. Too much water had been passed through the grounds at too high a temperature giving the coffee a burnt, over tanning flavour. The milk had also been overheated and both cups ended up in the bin.The 'Walls' chocolate ice creams were disgusting, there was no chocolate in them, just a chocolate flavoured coating. They too ended up in the bin. No doubt the food might be ok but they really need to sort out their coffee machine and get some better quality ice creams in!

What a treasure we stumbled upon. Our family wandered into Piccolo and it was excellent. The service was fast and friendly. The food was delicious. Our picky eater daughter declared both the calamari and Milanese some of the best she’d ever eaten. My lasagna was also excellent as was my husband’s soup and our apple tarte dessert! The restaurant has a lovely casual neighborhood charm. It wasn’t ever full while we were there, which made no sense to us, but is great news for anyone looking for a last minute option. Highly recommend — we will absolutely return.
