Christmas Day at Parklands Hotel & Country Club – A Massive Disappointment I’m not usually one for leaving reviews, but after the awful experience my family and I endured yesterday, I feel compelled to share this in hopes of saving others from a similar disappointment next year. As a family who traditionally enjoys Christmas Day at home, this year we decided to try something different. We booked Christmas lunch at Parklands, expecting a festive atmosphere, good food and a memorable experience. At around £100 per head, it wasn’t cheap, but we thought it would be worth it. Unfortunately, we couldn’t have been more wrong. From the moment we arrived, it was clear something was off. The atmosphere lacked any warmth or festivity—cold both literally and figuratively. The staff seemed stressed, and we were escorted to a cramped booth in the far corner of the room. We had booked for six people, though two couldn’t make it due to illness. Frankly, six people in that booth would have been impossible; it was barely comfortable for four. We were directed to a table in the centre of the room for “hors d’oeuvres”—a pitiful display of sad, soggy finger food on stale white bread. Not exactly the start we’d hoped for. When the starters arrived, they set the tone for the rest of the meal. Served on tiny side plates, the food was carelessly piled high with no thought to presentation. It was obvious nothing had been prepared to order. This was confirmed when the mains arrived just minutes later. Three of us had ordered turkey, and one chose seabass. The plates were only slightly larger than a side plate and the quality was abysmal. Everything was piled up on the plate, overcooked, mushy and varying shades of brown. The roast potatoes tasted stale, as though they were reheated leftovers and the pigs in blankets were made with the cheapest pork imaginable. Two of us couldn’t stomach it and requested steaks instead. When the steaks arrived (in a mere two minutes), they were no better. Overcooked to the point of being inedible, with big chunks of sinew dangling from the meat, they were served on the same sad, mushy pile of overcooked sides. It was a far cry from anything resembling a festive meal. Dessert, if you could call it that, was equally dismal. Clearly store-bought, it lacked any freshness or flavour and none of us touched it. What made the experience even worse was the dismissive attitude of the staff. When we raised our concerns, the server seemed annoyed. Even the elderly owner, who shuffled around the room asking for feedback, offered only a mumbled and insincere apology when he saw our untouched plates, before shuffling away. This wasn’t just another lunch—it was Christmas lunch. A day meant to be special, where memories are made. I had flown halfway around the world to spend this time with my family, only to be served one of the worst meals we’ve ever had. Parklands is also a hotel, so catering for large groups should be second nature to them. Instead, the entire experience felt like a money grab: a rushed, joyless assembly line designed to maximise profit while minimising effort. If you’re looking for a festive, memorable Christmas meal, I urge you to look elsewhere. Parklands offers none of that—no atmosphere, no care and certainly no quality. Even a dog would turn its nose up at the food we were served.

Absolutely Superb. Enjoyed a family birthday celebration for a two night stay. From booking to leaving everything was perfect. All Staff were friendly and attentive. Reception staff welcomed us on arrival and enquired if our stay was enjoyable on departure. It was evident that they genuinely cared that our experience was important to them. We booked a private room for our party of 28, Fiona and her team performed an excellent job looking after us. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order and was delicious, (special thanks for arranging the tables to allow us all to sit together) the restaurant and kitchen staff done an excellent job. We used the Spa and Pool and Gym and had a great time. Will definitely return to this hotel.

Absolutely love this hotel, my partner and I try and get there once a year and we always stay in the suite as we love the, in room jacuzzi tub, 4 poster bed and loads of space. It is quiet & cosy and such a relaxing wee break.

Good facilities, the spa is nice and was lovely and quiet. The rooms look lovely but this was easily the worst nights sleep I’ve ever had in a hotel. The pillows are thin solid bricks. Back and neck pain this morning. Will never travel without my own pillows again.

Our stay prior to flying out of Glasgow was brilliant! Ideally located in Glasgow South, away from the hustle and bustle, yet a short (20-30 min) drive to Glasgow Int'l Airport or Glasgow city center for great shopping, restaurants and amenities. The Parklands Hotel & Country Club allowed us to combine touring and shopping in Glasgow center, with easy & convenient 30 min. access via the M77 and M8 to Glasgow int'l Airport, along with a great dining experience at Michaels, the in-hotel restaurant. This avoided having the noise of the airport, while allowing us to enjoy the charm and character of the neighborhood, along with an excellent dinner and breakfast; this combination is usually impossible to find at most "airport hotels". Due to on-site directional signage not being as clear as it could be, we had difficulty finding the main entrance to the hotel and instead arrived through the restaurant entrance. But the restaurant manager was great to assist us with our luggage and pointing us in the right direction to the main lobby., mentioning that this happens on occasion. Once oriented, we easily moved our vehicle to the hotel car park. Our executive room at the Parklands Hotel was well appointed with 4 star amenities. The hotel having a lift was appreciated, as we had two large/ heavy pieces of luggage as well as two carry-on pieces. If it is convenience with needed amenities you are looking for while staying in Glasgow, look no further. Parklands Hotel is the place to stay. We'll be returning!

We stayed one night at this Hotel as we were attending a wedding nearby. We were greeted with a smile and the staff were more that accommodating regarding our request of an early check-in which we were most grateful for. Lovely breakfast Would definitely recommend . Jill Gargan

I would highly recommend you experience a night at Parklands, the rooms are stunning, the spa is stunning, the food is delicious. We really enjoyed our stay overnight. I would definitely go back again in a heart beat. Big shout out to Fraser who was on the bar in the evening, he made it really enjoyable for us, he was tentative and funny.

Hotel is beautifully decorated. Rooms are lovely and spacious. Spas fantastic and food was great .However our room was over the function room and the loud music was nt what we d expected .This was a treat for my hubby's birthday and our 30th wedding anniversary and took away the relaxing evening. Room (103) being situated between firedoors and stair doors which bang didn't help .

Only 15 minutes from downtown Glasgow! Great rooms. Cozy, comfy, and clean. Really felt great after exploring the city for a whole day Check-in was easy and people polite. Only thing was view is nothing to write home about. But make it up in amenities!

Rooms noisy, Joel Modlin, the manager did nothing to help us get a good night sleep, instead said he'd slept in every single room. What happened to customer service? Decor is dark not like the advertised photos (curtains are terrible). The duvet had a 8inch hole also and only one pillow per person, it's not exactly a deluxe room. The freshly cooked breakfast was also a joke, the scrambled egg had clearly been kept warm and the fresh fruit wasn't fresh. It wasn't all bad, the staff were nice and helpful and the spa was good. P.s. I don't take kindly to accusations Joel Modlin.

Just a quick review to say a massive thank you to Kerry & Victoria who provided a fantastic service during our visit on Sunday for evening dinner. They are super helpful for anybody who has an intolerance to milk, they will bring an I-pad with a menu just for you!!! As always it is a beautiful restaurant to sit in and the staff are all friendly and provide excellent service!! We will definitely be coming back soon for more of that steak & ale pie / Vegetable pie you have!!!! Thanks again, L&L!
