Paradise Cafe in Uttlesford

Milkshakes were brilliant, ordered the chocolog pancakes which on the menu states it comes with some chocolate log unfortunately neither turned up with any on the plate, when I mentioned it at the till got a half bothered apology and was still charged full price, which is a shame because if they had run out I would have like to have being told but to not even discount the puddings due to missing item seems poor customer service to me, was going to go for breakfast there tomorrow but think I will give it a miss now, which is a shame cos the menu does look great.

Every time we come here we are amazed at the plates that are put in front of us. We have never had a bad meal here. In fact we have never had a single item that was under par. The prices are really good considering the portion size. There is so much choice it’s hard to decide what you are going to have.

Second time we have visited and still very good value, well cooked breakfasts and portions, can thoroughly recommend, will visit again next time in the area,

Paradise restaurant it is not but a really good café. More choice than you have time to read. Portions large. It was virtually full to capacity. We had jacket potatos both good. Match your expectations with what the cafe looks like and you will not be disappointed. I would come again if it was lunchtime and in Great Dunmow.

We visited here yesterday with family and friends . My father in law uses a wheelchair and the staff had reserved a table for us to make it easily accessible. The service was excellent and the choice of food was very good .Three of us had the Sunday roast which was beautiful and there was plenty of food on the plate including a generous serving of lamb. My wife had plaice and dad had cod. Both they said were very nice and also a good size. The service was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The price of the food is very good. We will certainly return again Thank you

So bad that it was funny! My friend ordered a burger and chips, I ordered lasagne. The burger turned up after a couple of minutes and it looked nasty, the sort of thing you’d get at a burger stand in the80’s 😂. It was grey and the bread was wet. He ate half but gave up. My lasagne didn’t turn up for about 15 minutes in which time my friend had finished his burger and gone to look round the shops. Surely everyone knows you serve each tables meal at the same time? Lasagne was awful, sloppy and hardly any meat.

Goodness gracious me. We were in the area and fancied a quick bite for lunch and I am so glad we chose Paradise Cafe. There is a small car park tucked behind it making it easy to get to but the cafe itself was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant food. Portion sizes were unreal, great value for money, speedy service and friendly staff. We will be back! Thank you

Always good food at reasonable prices BUT beware the menu as if it says Sausages... with an 's' on the end, in English, meaning more than one, you will only get ONE sausage. Tried to explain to the server but got a shrug of the shoulders as if I didn't know what I was talking about. Misleading, but if you can see past that, you will enjoy the food.

Visited here based on reviews and ordered a Spanish omelette with chips. The omelette came and had excessive amount of cheese which ruined it and the chips were anaemic and tasted barely cooked. The staff was not attentive and lacked asking if things were ok and just looked on. When paying I wasn’t asked if everything was ok and I treated it as a first and last time I visit.

Oddly, we tried 2 Pubs in Great Dunmow for a drink and something to eat, the first didn’t sell or serve Food at all and the other wasn’t serving Food even when we went at a normal serving time for Food! So be warned! We decided to go to The Paradise Cafe which is what it looks like, in other words a traditional Cafe with no frills eg Formica Tables etc This suited us perfectly and we both opted for their Cheese Omelette, Hash Browns, Beans and Tomatoes. This hit the spot and was very good value. There is Table Service, which was pleasant and efficient. They look like they have a great Choice of Milkshakes but our Brunch had filled us up! We left a tip and it was still good value! If you’re looking for down to Earth food that won’t burn a hole in your pocket then this fits the Bill. The only downside, as they don’t have a Licence is they don’t serve Alcohol. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent local café. Fast, friendly service. HUGE portions. Very good food. Delicious hot chocolate. Saw them welcome people with pushchairs, walkers and small dogs. Couldn’t eat everything so they supplied takeaway boxes.

Ordered a take away from here. Was really disappointed as ordered quite alot. The prawns were off. Chips were really soggy. They portions were really big but just was not great quality. Pancakes were not fresh like expected. Milkshakes were only thing we enjoyed. Chucked most the over stuff away. I wouldnt order from here again.

Needed somewhere for a quick lunch whilst travelling through the area.Found this cafe was busier than the others in the street so thought that was a good sign.Ordered a blt baguette and poached eggs on toast with teas and coffee.Nice food, quick service and very reasonable prices.Didn’t see any signs that they took cash only but it may be because there were so many signs about COVID 19 so had to go to an atm which is luckily close by.Would visit again if in the area.

I had a beautiful Mixed Grill and my lamb chop tasted of lamb so unusual these days with meat when eating out. I have always found The Paradise serves lovely food and their Cappuccino is lovely.

Excellent choice of good value breakfasts - "No1, no beans, tomatoes" my favourite. Great coffee. For a main meal I strongly recommend chicken kebabs but make sure you haven't eaten for a while as it is Huge!

Since Paradise came into Dunmow I have eaten there many times. Including family and friends, who have all enjoyed their meals.I always book a table for at least 9 people on Rememberance Day, as we feel it’s a great place to enjoy any meal, be it a big breakfast, Sunday lunch, whatever you fancy, it’s good quality and very reasonably price. These people are super friendly. We drove by and quickly wanted to get a take away breakfast. I didn't have cash on me and we were quite in a hurry, so I thanked them and was about to leave the place but the owner offered me the take away for free! Luckily my husband was able to find a car spot and brought some cash with him, so in the end we could pay for our breakfast. Thank you so much for your kindness and we wish you all the best with your Paradise Cafe!

After a very heavy drinking wedding the breakfast the next day is crucial. Welcoming friendly staff greet you and bring drinks, orange juice and coffee!!! Various breakfasts were consumed and all were greeted with a thumbs up. This is not a ‘Greasy Spoon’, all breakfasts were well cooked with soft eggs and food aplenty. Loved it....

Has cafes go this was pretty average, but well priced although I found it odd you had to pay for toast as an extra.You can mix and match the breakfast as you wish, plus side they offered hash browns and black pudding.Service was quick and the place was clean with the added bonus it was 2 mins walk from our hotel.

We love this cafe it's always clean & food is always the same - well cooked & reasonably priced. For us it was a big family reunion, but unfortunately last yr we did not have good review for the serving staff but going back this month we had a wonderful waitress who couldn't do enough for us. The food is spot on, exactly what you want when you come to a greasy spoon. They've got plenty of seating and they'll do you a take out too.

Nice little town cafe, good food choice and well cooked. Good value for money. The staff are friendly and it is well frequented by locals.

Quick service,clean,as an expat it was good to have a nice bit of eggy bacon. Wheelchair access could be problem. Reasonably priced we paid4.80 for egg,fried slice,two bacon,sausage and beans.

Food was really well presented and in good proportion. Staff are friendly and efficient and the food was cooked to perfection.

We popped in here on a rainy and cold Good Friday and were pleasantly surprised by the range of menu options and the quality of our food. We had Shepherd's Pie and Chicken Curry which were both hot and tasty with a good selection of vegetables. The two dishes came to £12.50 which we thought was very good value. The staff were pleasant and the facilities clean.

I have to agree with some of the other comments; it’s certainly not service with a smile!

Excellent restaurant with and good size menu and reasonable prices. A restaurant you can make suit whatever you want from a typical greasy spoon breakfast to a well cooked roast dinner. The roast dinners are very good and excellent value. The Turkish staff are always very friendly and accommodate what ever you desire. These restaurant/cafes are becoming few and far between. The Paradise cafe lives up to the best traditions of an English high street cafe for a good brew up or fry up.

I ordered an egg&bacon; baguette which was actually part of a French stick. The cost was £4 average to high, can get cheaper in many places. I was hoping for 2 eggs, only got one! What was really poor I only got one piece of bacon. In my local cafe, mead lane cafe in Hertford, excellent, they put in 3 pieces of bacon if you order a baguette ??? If you like a high ratio of bread to filling then go here. So dissatisfied. Steve, Hertford.

This is the only restaurant I know where you can get Moussaka so that's what I have whenever I visit good quality big plateful followed by coffee for a reasonable price

One of the worst breakfast I've had. I would call myself a a pretty good judge on the English breakfast, I have eaten in some of the best cafes in London, lots of iconic ones. The English breakfast isn't a difficult thing to do but it's very easy to mess it up. The only positive thing about this breakfast was it was hot, the sausages, black pudding, bacon were all deep fried, the bubble was as flat as a pancake and tasted like rubber and as for the eggs i will leave no comment. To add insult to injury the tea was served with uht capsules, I had toast with this breakfast which came to a whopping £9.50. In London for that you will pay a max of £6 including tea and toast. If you going to charge that sort of money make sure it's good. I wouldn't go back even if it was free.

I've eaten here several times. It's one of my kids favourite places to eat too.

Easily the worst breakfast I have eaten this side of the Mississippi. It was just awful, inedible to be honest. It was bad bad food and presented with zero effort. Looked like someone had filled up a bean can with tomato sauce and water and poured it on my plate. Unfriendly staff. It's like some kebab shop owners decided to open up a cafe for breakfast. Why oh why, does this place have any stars in their rating.

As this lovely café is nearby, I have supported it from the start and food, price, quality and friendly staff used to be great, we enjoyed going to the café.

Terminamos en el Café paraíso en un accidente por así decirlo. Nos bajarían por Angel y arpa, ya que estaba muy ocupado Padres el fin de semana del día. Estábamos buscando un lugar para desayunar en Great Dunmow. Qué tesoro nos encontramos! Teníamos inglés y tortilla. Puedo decir que fue uno de los mejores desayunos que he comido. Y usted paga menos de 5 libras por completo en inglés! Y no me empezaron a unos cafés. Excelente! No tienes un café sabroso y bien preparada en la mayoría de cafeterías. El servicio es muy rápido (que es lo que necesitábamos:-)) y el personal es muy educado y agradable. Sin duda volveremos! Gracias Personal paraíso!

We were looking for a quick lunch and came across this Cafe. It has a number of rooms and on arrival it was very busy, but we managed to find a table. There is a wide menu of basic food choices. Orders are taken at the counter and at the tables. The service was friendly and the food and drinks were served quickly and provided excellent value. The cafe appears understandably popular and excels at service and value. I checked to ensure that we had not been undercharged! Well worth a visit

Best value brunch in Dunmow with very attentive service. Just what Dunmow needed to give the other places a kick up the rear. Fresh cooked food without long waits (unlike other places I could mention) and great value by comparison.

Very good place, with lots of choice and great for just a hot drink as well. Homemade dishes to a fry up. Massive portions always busy. Wish it was open later in the evenings! Great roast too. Kids love it. Staff lovely and helpful.

This is a quick serve breakfast and dining option. The eggs are tasty and deep yellow unlike those in other cafes in the town but white toast is given. The tea can be strong as I like it where other cafes often serve it too weak for my liking. Good value.

Always pop in here for an all day breakfast when we're in Dunmow. Good portions, good food, great value.

Now visit most times we come to Dunmow as we find that the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The service is quick and staff friendly. The food is back with you in no time at all and the portions are a good size. Prices are acceptable also, especially in comparison with other local eating establishments.

This is a great place for family time, with amazing pancakes and milkshakes. Their portions are huge and it's the cheapest place in town. It is a very nice atmosphere!

Went there today for breakfast and our food was on the table probably 3 minutes after ordering. My dining companion ate all his but the sausage looked and tasted horrible. The food was clearly pinged. The egg looked sorry for itself and I would not send out an egg looking like that. The fried bread was fine, the bacon adequate. For just under £5 I would still expect better. The review at the top has totally tured my stomach and clearly this woman knows seeing as she worked there. The waiter was friendly and the toilet was clean. The cappucino was ok.

Some of you know the restaurant as a 'great cafe' however there is a lot that goes on behind closed doors which makes this place a bad establishment. I had been working at this place for roughly two years up to a few days ago, and quit due to the male staff behaviour which is rude and disrespectful/degrading to women. The health standards are also not as they seem, as from round the corners what you can't see is dropped food being reused and meat juices being poured into the beans. Knives are used consistently without being washed and are constantly causing cross contamination, and not to mention the ants that gather around the bar where drinks are prepared, usually not sorted until the end of the day because it is 'not the main priority'.

Went in for lunch, didn't realise that the lunch menu was quite extensive, until after I had fallen for the lemon cake. I wasn't disappointed!

The Paradise Cafe is a great place for breakfast - it has a vast array of breakfast options.We settled for bacon baguettes and they were huge. Washed down with a cuppa, they were the perfect start to the day.Service was very efficient and prices were lowish too. Thoroughly recommended for breakfast.

Hi all I've been into paradise cafe a few times and can honestly say the food was great and so was the service I know it can get busy at times but it has never been a problem to me

I work in Dunmow and visit this place all the time, the staff always remember you and are so friendly. It's very cheap and good food and service.

Two of us went on a Sunday a few months ago. We managed to find a seat as they were fairly busy. Eventually we were served. the young girl serving was more interested in talking to a young man rather than concentrating on taking orders for food.. After 30 minutes the meal finally arrived. Very good value I must admit. After finishing the meal, we decided to order dessert. Again the young girl was more interested in talking to the young man in the corner rather than clearing the table and taking an order.After waiting for 15 minutes we decided to leave without ordering dessert. On paying, I was asked if everything was Ok whereupon I said no and explained why I felt that way. I was told that if I sat down again he would get me a dessert but the time had gone by then. It might be a successful place but a second chance is out of the question as far as I am concerned.

Their full English breakfast is a bit special and at under a fiver it will keep you going all day, lots of other stuff and breakfast variations.

Friendly pleasant staff, good quality wholesome food at a very reasonable price. Good old English breakfast, lasagna and the takeaway breakfast sandwiches are great

This is a simple, clean cafe with decent, basic food. Nothing pretentious. It's a CAFE. The food in Paradise is cooked to a high standard and always well presented. Portions are generous and always filling. Drinks are good. The coffee is excellent and my five year old grandson recommends the milkshakes!If you want something classy, go elsewhere! However, if you want a simple, filling breakfast or lunch, it's about the best place in Dunmow to eat.

This is a great place to eat! Very clean, quick service, great choice on the menu. There is never a rush to get you out and the staff are very unobtrusive. Cafe style food, nothing too fancy but that suits me fine! Prices are reasonable and it's always my first choice for breakfast, brunch or just a coffee. Shame they don't open in the evenings, I think they would continue to pull in customers.

Eaten here a couple of times recently with family. Despite being very busy we were quickly seated and attended to by staff who were very friendly and unflappable.Amazing choice on the menu running to half a dozen pages, much of it a variation around chips, full english breakfasts etc. including an option to compile your own meal from a number of options.Food came in good time and tasted fresh, not like the gluey tasting pre-prepared food you get in so many places nowadays.Great to find a friendly local cafe which is traditional and good value and different to so many of the faceless options on the high street nowadays.I hope the tips are going to the staff not being pocketed by management as a previous reviewer suggests. They sure deserve it.

I worked here for roughly 4 months, i did not receive one penny of my HARD earned tips as they were taken and kept to the bosses themselves. I was always working overtime without paySUAT is unrespectful towards staff, very money orientated and ungreatfulI signgle handedly run the front floor ofen because many staff member quit becuase of working conditions!!This business may look appealing to customers on the outside. However behind the scenes its horrific for staff.All throughout my job, i received greif. I did not get fired from here, i come to the end of my tether and quit!Although Sammet and Morat (chefs) are lovely people to work with. And all the regulars were lovley!

My wife & i had a wonderful good fresh cooked brunch on a late Saturday morning & despite the café being packed received excellent service.The café serves a variety of excellent value for money food & provides first class friendly service.Sure it's a no frills café but the cleanliness of the cafe, quality & large portions of food together with the friendliness of all of the staff make this a must for a quality brunch (or more).

If you want quickly served no frills good value, good quality food, then head for Paradise in Dunmow high Street .. I ate there with my partner last week and it was all top drawer, Friendly staff, cooking food in an open plan and and visible kitchen. Which for me is always a sign of confidence in the quality and hygiene of any establishment. I had the omelette which was cooked to perfection and my partner the home made Shepard's pie but both were tasty served nice and hot and with a smile and all at good value prices .. Job done ..

Paradise Cafe is a friendly cafe/bar/grille restaurant that serves very nice food. There is a variety of choice on the menu, and all food is cooked to high quality, and tastes very nice, with variations for the fussy people like no salad on a burger.The waiters and waitresses are very friendly, and are happy to serve, and talk to you all the time.The location is good, the menu is good, the waiters are amazing, the food is extravagant.Everything you could ask for in a meal anytime in the day in Dunmow.I am blown away! Even as a local.

A cafe that serves all day breakfasts, burgers, chicken, lasagne, chips, sandwiches, rolls and baguettes. A dream when you fancy a bacon sandwich at an affordable price and dont have to pay extra for the 'quirky tea room' and mis matched China.This place is good honest food.Customer service is great, if a small mistake is made (hot milk brought for tea by mistake) it is very quickly rectified.Have never had to wait long for food, it has always come out overhead portions and as described and for 2 adults and 2 children its only ever around £20-22.Children always get given lollies on paying the bill as well.Will always return and highly recommend if you want to get away from the stuck up high strung attitude of most other cafes in Dunmow.

Top breakfast exactly as it said on the tin!! Great tasting food, speedy service, great coffee and amazing value for money. Strongly recommend if your in the area.
