Pappy's Taco Bar in South Lakeland

Average BBQ food with average customer service in a very small but nicely decorated restaurant. Not suitable for large groups, 4 max, not suitable for children, no space for prams.

We went for my birthday and great service with a smile and the food was amazing. Great to have tasty food and plenty of it. Mouth watering and left full and happy. Going back again with family this time.

A tad small but it works, great staff and food are really great prices, we got a share starter of sausage and dipping sauce, and a make your own burger and a regular burger, both with fires, the BBQ is to die for as is the brisket and pulled pork. We also had a class of wine each a coke and water and it was £41.75...make sure you book in advance as the food is that good it sells out quickly.

Just left and feeling full to the brim after a long walk. The hotdog was top notch, make your own burger with signature brisket and fried chicken to die for and the homemade bbq sauce might just be the best I've ever had. Fully recommended

My friend showed me this little place on TikTok and honestly, what a find. It’s small, but in that warm, “homely and welcoming” way, not the “squeezed in like it’s a game of restaurant Tetris” way. The staff were all lovely—super friendly, really on it, and one of them was in training, but he was doing a cracking job. Now, the food. We finally got to try brisket in the UK, which felt like a bit of a bucket list moment. And wow—turns out, we’ve been missing out. Tender, smoky, packed with flavor, and those Texan seasonings? Absolute magic. Everything we had was spot on, cooked perfectly, and just one of those meals where you walk out the door already slipping into a food coma. Left feeling full, happy, and already thinking about what we’ll order next time. Probably more brisket. Definitely more brisket.

We visited last night, and as expected for a Saturday, the restaurant was incredibly busy. We arrived at 6 PM but were told the next available table wouldn’t be until 8:30. That was fine with us—we headed out for a bit and came back later. When we returned, we were seated in front of the bar, and from the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel so welcome. You could really sense the strong family connection within the restaurant. Though it’s a small space with limited tables, it never felt cramped or uncomfortable. We decided to order the Pitman’s Sharing Platter, and it was absolutely worth the wait! The meat was tender, melt-in-your-mouth, and packed with flavor. For sides, we had fries, slaw, and mac and cheese. Now, I’ve never been a fan of mac and cheese, but my husband convinced me to give it a try—and I’m so glad I did! It was the first time I’ve not only liked but loved mac and cheese. Thankfully, we didn’t order an appetizer because the platter was incredibly filling—we couldn’t even finish it and ended up taking the rest home. I honestly don’t know how anyone could manage this meal and starters; we were absolutely stuffed! We first discovered this place through Facebook, and I’m so glad we did. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Honestly delicious. We got the share platter, side with chips. We couldn't finish it and took the best left overs home with brownies that had caramel sauce which was out of this world. If you want the taste of Texas without the added cost of flight and hotels then look no further. If your looking for the man vs food experience then get booked in and simply ENJOY.

The pitmaster platter for 2 was amazing! Large portion size and incredible food. I would compare it to bbq food l've eaten in USA. Served with 3 large size side dishes, pickles and sauces. The restaurant was small but cosy and you can smell the sweet smoke flavour as soon as you walk in. The server was friendly but professional and being from Texas we knew we were in for a treat! Watermelon margarita was delicious, and good selection of beers were on offer. Brisket was smoky and tender, and had a great bark. The smoked sausage was tender and full of flavour. Turkey and pulled pork were very good. The smoked chicken thighs might have stolen the show! I will definitely return to Pappy's BBQ when in the area.

My family and I had a fantastic dining experience at Pappy's. The service was exceptionally warm and welcoming, and the food was nothing short of extraordinary. Each dish was not only incredibly tasty but also beautifully presented, bursting with amazing flavors. We can't wait to come back. The atmosphere truly made us feel like we were dining abroad.

Great food great atmosphere staff were lovely the food out of this world

I'm so far from a food snob and I don't know if I caught them on a particularly bad day but my god! The food was so unbelievably dry! It's just speculation but it definitely gave, "warmed up in the microwave" vibes. Definitely not the quality you expect given the high price, especially when you need to wash it down with very expensive juice. The pulled pork was a particularly bad showing, more like dry flavourless jerky than anything else, the brisket tasted nice but was dry like packaged sandwich meat. The mac and cheese was just sad and bland. The owner was very sweet in person so I'm quite surprised about the snarky replies to reviews shown on here, I wonder if it's a case of always having excuses and never needing to change. Regardless, if money's tight I would exercise a little caution before going here. Imo anyway.

One of the best burgers ive ever had and absolutely lovely customer service

The was food was good but the place it’s self is too small for the amount of tables.Also was charged £6.25 10% of my bill for service charge which was not stated anywhere, if I had known I would have gone to the counter myself and collected our food.Its expensive enough without a sneaky charge like that. I will not be returning.

We came in at 6:45 Saturday 18th January, the girls on shift were absolutely fantastic and made our experience amazing! The food was absolutely amazing and we will certainly be back sometime soon! We regret not getting the girls names as they really did such a good job, they made us feel so welcome and were very attentive

Sadly many things on the menu not available despite it being 7pm on a Saturday night. If you don’t have salsa, go buy the ingredients and make some! Also, it’s a bbq place, always have salsa available! Some of the meats not available either nor were different types of tequila and mescal. So what we ate was good but lack of options of menu was disappointing. Quite a long wait to place our order even though the restaurant wasn’t that busy, but food did come out in a reasonable time. Poor vegetarian options.

Full bellys and smiling faces guaranteed. Stand out food, I was sad I got so full up and couldn't try more! The vibe, history and hospitality are all exceptional. Recommending to everyone.

Phenomenal food. Immense smoking. You can taste the heritage and experience of the Pit Master. Definitely worth a visit.

Absolutely fantastic! We miss having quality Texas bbq and this was just what we were missing. The food was outstanding and the service was impeccable. Friendly, helpful and wonderfully welcoming. We had the sharing platter for two and the baby back ribs and were very, very happy. The ribs were perfectly tender and well-sauced. The pulled pork was bursting with flavour. The brisket was an absolute stand out. Delightfully peppery bark, lovely and tender. Absolutely amazing. We just wish we’d been prepared enough to order a Turkey for thanksgiving. I cannot recommend it enough. If you love bbq or want to try something new you cannot go wrong here!

This is for the taco bar, we went on an weekend without a booking but thankfully space, it is small so would suggest booking. The food and service is fantastic with lots of choice and the birria tacos and mac and cheese were the highlights, mac and cheese can be hit or miss but here it is lovely!

Incredible food. It arrived timely and we enjoyed their 'Pappys original Texas BBQ sauce'. It was quite hard to find but is DEFINITELY a hidden gem. Thanks to chef and foh staff!

No room in the main restaurant but not a problem. They found space in the external dining area which is down the lane and is in a marquee with plenty heat on. Not sure I would want to be in there in the middle of winter though. So book up first. Think there was a little issue with staff on the night so not as attentive as you would expect. We even had to go and find someone to pay for our meal. Non of this put us off because the food was exceptional and I would return next time.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Just had dinner at Pappy’s, and what a fantastic dog-friendly place! The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. I ordered the Beef Brisket plate, and my partner had the King Brisket BBQ bun—both were amazing! The brisket was so juicy, tender, and had a delicious bark. Honestly, five stars doesn’t feel like enough. Highly recommend this spot! The only downside is it’s 3 hours away from where we live, but we'll definitely be back the next time we're in the area! 😬

We dined in last night and must say the food was really nice. However, our dining experience was ruined from the chef (maybe owner) telling off a staff member for not serving food when he could clearly see she was serving a customer and she was the only server there at that time. It made me and other members in my party feel really uncomfortable. Advice for the chef/owner would be to talk to your staff with respect! Without servers building a rapport with the customers you would have no business! Her service (sorry i didnt catch your name bond hair) all night was excellent! You are all meant to be part of the same team! Unfortunately, it's left a really bad taste and I'm sure other customers who were there last night would agree too. Therefore, we won't be going back. I really do hope the girl with the blond hair is okay and would definitely encourage her to look for another hospitality job where she will be treated like a valued member.

We found this place randomly after checking for places to eat with good reviews. The food is sensational. We ordered wings and ribs as a starter and it was probably the best wings I ever had. The ribs were absolutely yummy as well (very heavily seasoned, soft, smoked, tasty). My friend ordered the brisket and I got the Texas Burger. I cannot praise this food enough, it was great experience that I would definitely recommend.

Omg! Left so full! The food was amazing but everyone knows that! The staff were so friendly and were working hard as its a busy wee place! Go if you get the chance! But leave it until the last day or no other food places will stand a chance!!!

Great food, just need a bigger premises

My partner and I went in for the last night of our honeymoon. We both had baby back ribs, a side of ribs and the trio of salsas with totopos. The totopos were fantastic nothing like a nacho, way better in my opinion. The green salsa was my favourite. The side of sticky ribs were really tasty. The baby back ribs were incredible. The seasoning and homemade BBQ sauce the highlight. Skin on fries were excellent. Great coleslaw. Despite being incredibly full I had to have a key lime pie. It was almost like a lime cheesecake with bits of lime peel. Didn't look pretty, but probably my favourite in terms of flavour and consistency despite having some in Key Largo and Key West. Couldn't recommend enough. We left with two bottles of signature BBQ sauce and should we travel to the Lake District again will certainly try to revisit.

Pappy’s catered our wedding and it. Was. FANTASTIC. I don’t think our guests have stopped complimenting the food! From the start Robin was super professional and had our best interests at heart. She was very organised and on top of everything (especially when I wasn’t!) and patient with me. On the run up she was good communicating with our wedding coordinator and checked we had everything we needed. The food itself was just perfect and there was plenty of it. We chose a family style dining setup and Robin made sure we picked a meal plan that suited this. And as I said, the guests can’t stop talking about how good the food was!! Service on the day was also perfect, Robin and her team were super smiley and got everything out in good time so nobody was staring at food on other tables! Thanks also for our complimentary Pappy’s BBQ sauce! So if you’re thinking of having Pappy’s cater your wedding or event just stop thinking and book them 😊 you won’t regret it!

Speechless. What. A. Meal. If you want meat, then this is a mic drop place. We had the platter for two and it stops traffic. 5 meats all of which had such succulence, flavour, depth...oh the humanity! Every meat tasted it had been cooked by a different chef, yet was still harmonious. Great sides as well, great seasoning. The place itself is super cosy with real thought and character everywhere. Possibly my restaurant of the year. Oh, thr brisket was RIGHT up there with any meat I've ever had and I'm including Michelin stars. Art. Come here, you can borrow my car, i implore you 🎈🥳🥩🍗🍖🍔🌭

Perfect! Food was brilliant and ample, served efficiently by friendly staff. A bit of Texas in the Lake District! Every bit as good as our favourite BBQ smokehouse in Dallas (and that’s in Texas!).

Superb food delivered promptly in a compact restaurant. 6 of us sat to a booth with ample room. The intimate setting does have a nice bit of hubbub about it.

Really great place, food was really good and the staff are very knowledgble about what is in the food. Our Waitress lucy was fantastic. I felt confident ordering here Had a sharing platter with a husband that was adapted to be gluten-free, peanut free, and shellfish free. And was absolutely delicious with really generous portions.

Had a little treat to myself here this evening, 16th June 2024. I've been waiting to try here for some time and Needless to say, I was not disappointed. Everything was per from the ribs at the start, covered with a lovely homemade BBQ sauce. Then I had the Mac n Cheese with meats and the Tipsy Texan burger with a serving of fries and pots of sauce; BBQ, BBQ mustard, cheese and buffalo. The mac n cheese was brilliant, Creamy, cheesey, the toppings were wonderful, smoke House sausage and pulled pork. Then the burger was something else, stacked high and full of flavour, every bite was amazing. And if that was not enough, I finished on the peanut butter cookie ice cream sandwich, yes, homemade peanut butter cookies and Oh my, it was delicious. I will definitely be back for more! Great food and excellent service.

Can’t comment on the quality of the food as we didn’t stay that long! We arrived and it is a very small intimate restaurant; feels quite authentic which was pleasing. Unfortunately we were seated by a member of staff in a back corner and then forgotten about. No one approached us to give us a menu or offer us drinks. We waited for ten minutes and didn’t even receive a smile of acknowledgement (which in a restaurant with only 5 tables inside is very uncomfortable!) When a table who arrived after us were greeted and served right away we figured our business wasn’t wanted and left. Disappointing. No apology and no acknowledgement even as we walked past the staff stood by the door. I hope this isn’t the usual customer experience but it certainly was ours.

A lovely online order of food delivered by Pappy’s online shop. Plus I bought some sauces to try. Even though this lovely grub is sealed, it smells delicious. Looking forward to a fantastic family get together over the Bank holiday weekend. Swift delivery, well packed. Recommended by my sister, who is crazy for Texan BBQ.😀

Pappy's is an oasis in the flavor desert of north west of England. The food was spectacular, and the service was great. If you want genuine Texas style barbecue that is succulent and delicious I highly recommend Pappy's! The Margaritas were also on point! It is totally worth the drive from Barrow-in-Furness or any of the closer towns. The only downside is the dinning room is small, so you should have a booking before you make the drive. I will certainly be eating here again!

My partner and I had an absolutely fantastic experience here, even though they were really busy and we didn't have a booking they managed to squeeze us in. The lady was super helpful in letting us know what was available and what wasn't. The portions were more than enough, incredibly tasty and super filling. Very reasonably priced and will definitely be visiting next time.

One of the standout places to eat in kendal, it is great to see places like pappy's doing something different from the rest. Keep on rocking!

Very nice food with good service

The restaurant is quite tiny but very cosy, the food was really nice that the group had, i had the small rib which was very tasty.

This was our second visit and it was just as wonderful as the first! We had the BBQ Brisket Plate and Pulled Pork Tacos which were both excellent! We sampled the house margaritas-excellent. The Bloody Maria was fabulous! Perfect! We absolutely love Pappy’s and we intend to order PAPPY’s AT HOME when we next entertain.

Kendal is very lucky to have a place like this. The decor is perfect, the service is amazing, the drinks were delicious and the food even better! Don't forget the music 🎵

The food was good - one Main was forgotten... service was slower than expected. 5 of us had a main course each and a few drinks. We were there for at least 3 hours.

Firstly the food is good, the chicken wings were excellent and the Dino rib was quality. The burger was average but not bad by all means. However I’m sorry to say the service massively let our experience down. Given that we were the only people in there, not even the basics of asking if the food was okay, clearing any plates, asking if we wanted more drinks, or any desert etc, were done. Staff sat playing on their phone and seemed more interested in closing up, don’t open on a Sunday night if this is going to be the case. It might also have been good to explain why the food was being brought in a black box from outside. We’ve never been here before and upon googling afterwards we realised there is a smokehouse further down.

An absolute hidden gem! You can't beat this place for the price, 2 for 1 on tacos on a Tuesday. Very filling and tasted amazing. The smokehouse is fantastic too. The share platter we tried was beautiful with all the meats cooked and seasoned perfectly. I cannot recommend this place enough!!
