Just had a superb 4 night stay at this very dog friendly hotel. The staff where really welcoming friendly and accommodating. Our room had great views down the valley and the food in the bar was really good. The hotel was also extremely dog friendly.

I really enjoy visiting the Mortal Man, the food is great, the beer is well kept and the location is peaceful (apart from the low flying jets). I great location to walk over from Ambleside.

We booked a table for Sunday lunch what a disappointment the food arrived at our table cold the roast potatoes looked and tasted like they had been made for days the veg consisted of one carrot and very little cabbage we did mention the food was cold to the waitress the owner came out with an attitude and completely ignored our concerns we ordered a strawberry desert which came with one strawberry in it overall it was a very disappointing lunch and would certainly not to be repeated

Booked for restaurant. 5+1child. Lovely welcome. Ordered mains. Took a while, but it was busy so understandable. . . Then service disappeared. We gave up waiting to order puddings, no one came near, so we decided to leave. . And even then had to find staff to ask for the bill. Very disappointing.

Popped into this pub for some excellent food. Very dog friendly pub. Staff were incredibly thoughful and helpful. Would recommend Dinner here to anyone. Plenty of Gluten Free options available as well.

We were gifted an overnight stay with a Wowcher voucher from family and decided to add an extra night’s stay. I emailed the hotel directly about the additional night and phoned to pay by credit card for the extra night. During that conversation I confirmed that although the booking was under my DIL’s name the extra night was booked and paid for by myself. I emailed again on the same thread as my original emails (their reservations email address) two nights before our stay to enquire about gluten free breakfast options and had a reply from Sarah on Sunday 17th March confirming that this wasn’t a problem. We arrived today for our stay to be told that the hotel had a problem with their heating and hot water and all reservations had been cancelled. Sarah, the manager, came to speak to us and said that everyone had been contacted about their reservations being cancelled. She said she had sent 4 emails and had had no response. She claimed to have emailed my daughter in law who bought the voucher, but hadn’t emailed me even though my own email address had been used to contact them on several occasions. We had travelled from Glasgow, so obviously had come a good distance. Sarah was very rude to us from the start of our conversation. She was insistent that she had tried to contact us and said there was nothing she could do. At one point she said if we had been nicer to her she would have helped us find alternative accommodation. We went round in circles trying to make her realise that the hotel had made no attempt to contact me. On speaking to our family we have since discovered that no emails have been received cancelling the booking. We eventually were refunded for my direct booking, but will need to also get a refund from Wowcher. The hotel were clearly at fault for not contacting us even though they had my email address, but instead of apologising Sarah said she was too busy to go through their emails and contact the guests coming to stay this week. They only have 11 rooms, so hardly a difficult task. The way we were spoken to by the manager was disgraceful. I have never experienced such poor customer service from someone. We will never be back after the way we were spoken to.

Our room was arranged via an experience voucher. We tried to change it three days before, but the hotel said it was too late. So we went. We shouldn't have bothered. We were offered room 1. Watch out for room 1. I've now seen other reviews for it. It's nothing like any of the 'example' photos that are on the Web. It's a standard, wooden framed double bed with only just enough space to walk around it. Very small bathroom. Awful. With the weather set in for heavy rain, we couldn't possibly stay in such a grotty room for so long so we just turned round and drove home again. Be warned - reviews are mixed.

I don’t know about the rooms or the food and location but the service is terrible. Once I booked from wowcher I seen the bad reviews from here and I was kinda okay maybe if I ask them they will give me some more information as I never booked before via wowcher. However they sent me an automated mail which had nothing to do with my wowcher booking. After I sent my concerns, she immediately told me to go somewhere else and canceled my booking. I was about to gift the wowcher to the other couple who would be with us. Guys this people don’t want guests and by the mails Sarah seemed to be very rude and on a rush.

Review of middle September visit. So in the words of “forest Gump” the hotel is like a box of chocolates quite not sure what you’re gonna get… let me elaborate On arrival we was really happy with the look, and location of the place considering some say it’s stuck on a roundabout, when in fact it’s opposite one that’s still a country roundabout “busy” but does not effect the hotel On arrival check in was easy and was met by the front of House manager. We also had a dog which was welcomed. The hotel looked well decorated and very fancy for being a boutique country style Hotel On arrival to the top floor room we was so happy to see the style continued Now we had some issues in this particular room, over the stay of 3 days in different matters. And it took some time for the manager to see we was not being fussy but genuine to the issues this went on over the course of are 3 days. But felt she should have been more shocked, and as annoyed by the findings as we was the we felt they was not, listened but no action really taken but listing to comments. Now by leaving the hotel sorted a compensation for room issues so out of fairness I will not list or slander. What I will say is that I feel they have better grips of the pub management and food offerings then rooms, I feel they need to go back to basics with what a guest expects from a room and be doing more checks on their team. I also note that a Friday morning keg and drinks ordered from the brewery was at 5:50 am ans was extremely loud to the point we heard the order being shouted to the team taking the delivery and not expected when your in the lakes for relaxing less early mornings, The hotel is owed by a couple and advertised in the welcome pack, my comment would be if they care they need to get in and see what is and is not being done in the rooms. Guests : First looks beautiful .. dive slightly deeper and your find the cracks For the trip it was well located to all local tourist towns and had a great field for dogs to use for the trip , could image that will be turned in to glamping pods one day. It’s worth noting a wedding was on the second day and again felt attention was given to where money was being spent on the day.

Was recommended by camp site staff, pretty on the outside . We called Tuesday night for a bar meal ,the tables were sticky with cleaning fluid spray which makes pine table lacquer sticky . The place was tired and in desperate need of refurb . My plate was cold thus making my food go cold , I asked for more drinks as we started to eat and was told I had to go to bar by barman who wasn’t doing anything, thus making meal even colder.
