Paper Duck World Buffet in Ashford

The restaurant is a decent size and tables are clean and well spaced out. The lunch time buffet is £14.99, the evening one £19.99 and you can eat as much as you want. There are many different types of food to choose from, some Chinese, some Indian and some English. The sweet selection is a bit limited, but the ice cream is delicious so save some space for that! The staff are polite and the tables are cleared quickly. This restaurant is worthy of a visit.

Food was extremely poor and the selection/variety is non existent, at a set price of £20 it is ridiculously overpriced. Service when seated was good however upon leaving the gentleman behind the bar made a terrible comment intended to be a joke leaving us with an overall bad experience.

Wouldn’t recommend. Came tonight for first time. Sadly will also be the last time. Rather dry overcooked food sat in the serving bowls. A real lack of choice the only options were Salt and Pepper Salt and pepper chicken/ squid/ prawn/ chicken balls/ salt and pepper ONLY. Literally no other rice (as bowls were not refilled) other than plain boiled rice. Which was in lumps overcooked sat in the container. A huge disappointment. For the price I suppose it’s cheap and cheerful but wouldn’t return. Poor quality food overall. Pink chicken in the chicken balls. No thanks.

We should’ve taken the empty restaurant as a sign not to go in. Food was dry cold and trays we’re half empty. Drinks came in a takeaway cup and were flat. The Singapore noodles were crunchy, uncooked and dry. The prawns still had there shells on and the beef was grey. Also no muscles or crispy chilli beef or sushi as advertised. Made myself a duck wrap and each bite I had was pure fat no duck meat. After all that the ice cream was the only nice bit but wasn’t worth the £20 we spent.

Had a table booked for the last mth for a special occasion.today 19th Feb arrived 7.30 only 6 other people there thought strange..Drinks came in plastic take away cups half the food was empty or dried up disappointed is a understatement.Food had no taste and felt it was reheated about 2 days ago.Seriously worried. I'm gonna wake up with food poising. TO make it worse my partner paid £46 for the privilege of 2 pepsis and 2 crap buffets at 19.99 each.Total rip off please don't waste your money as for the 5* reviews don't think we went same place AVOID BEEN WARNED If had a 0 rating.thats what I'd give.0 rating

Good food options, the ribs are lovely, drinks aren't too overpriced (drinks much bigger then they used to be) staff are very lovely and the place is very clean. My son needed help with ice cream which they offered to him immediately. My son even got given some sweets at the end from a lovely lady

Under new management and it shows. A very good selection of food, Everything we tried was perfect and as good as you will get anywhere. Extraordinary value for money. Service was excellent and very friendly. Also has a decent wine list. I would highly recommend this establishment.

Been a few times with family and friends and each visit has the same great service and pleasant atmosphere and always a great variety of food we'll book again

Visited this week for the first time in a while. The new management has made good changes. Food is still decent and with a fair variety to try. Feels a lot less cluttered than before with a few things moved around which I think works well. Took my toddler along and she loved it. Very friendly staff. All in all a decent option for a meal out.

Under new management and now much improved! £14.99 lunch time £19.99 evenings (more to choose from) after a disappointing visit a year ago thought we would try again and was pleasantly surprised , cheerful and pleasant staff , a good selection of food, everything I tried was very nice especially the lamb curry! We went to the paper duck last night for my son’s birthday and the service was incredible. The new manager totally exceeds himself, he saw that it was my son’s birthday so they went out their way to get him a cake and to make him feel special. The kids also got some sweets each after their meals. The food was so much better than it used to be, with a good variety, and the puddings are much better too. Throughly enjoyed ourselves, thank you so much! ☺️

100% new favourite place to eat. Reasonable price for the quality of food. More choice in the evenings. Can get busy which is good but can be loud when trying to enjoy a quiet meal. Perfect for a meal for one up to a party. Space for everyone. Highly recommend to go and try it.

Cheap quality food, but I guess most buffets like this are, so I should’ve known better. Good selection, just tastes cheap. Desserts are really poor and the ice cream freezer is covered in mould. Something I didn’t see before we ate dinner. Toilets are rank, no hand soap available either. Highly do NOT recommend.

I'm glad that this centrally placed restaurant is open again. For £14.99 you can eat as much as you like from a wide selection of well cooked fare. The sweets course offered a selection of four which included ice cream. Staff police, restaurant tidy and large. A nice eating experience. I enjoyed my food.

Visited a few days ago. Hardly any drinks on the menu. Food very limited choice compared to how it used to be. Many dishes were tasteless and the perking duck was like mince. Poor quality with jyst a few dishes that were worth eating. Won't be going back. This was just before Christmas 2022.

Went today for Sunday lunch food was cooked well but wasn't much of it, most pots were empty and when they eventually refilled was hardly anything put it out so didn't really get the moneys worth and very basic dishes put out, no duck like there used to be and no prawn dishes or ribs. Minimal desserts just 2 cakes things jelly and ice cream, world buffet but only Chinese and Indian items. Drinks were served in strange takeaway cups. Not worth the money. Won't bother going back

We arrived at 9pm which seems to be late in Ashford even on a Friday night we did go to Pizza Express 10 minutes earlier but we're left at the front door with staff looking at us like the dog dragged in something nasty and turned us away. So we thought we'd chance Paperduck and it was a pleasant surprise we were walmly welcomed served efficiently, some of the food bins were empty and we thought end of the service we were getting the left overs but to a great surprise they refilled those bins just right, the food was really good and tasty. We were the last people at the end of the night but we're not rushed and even told by staff that we did not need to rush out. In short it's a lovely place with good food and warm friendly service.

I had five courses today. Three mains and two mini cakes and ice cream. The cost was £14.99 to eat as much as you like (it's £19.99 in the evening) and drinks are extra. The restaurant has three areas and is quite large, airy and clean if sparsely decorated. The staff were polite and well dressed and the food neatly laid out and marked as to what it was. There was a good amount of soups, meat (red and white), vegetables,chips and much more. The afters were a selection of four cakes and ice cream. A pleasant eating experience and let's hope that it's popularity grows.

What a complete rip off, £20 each for little selection, we have paid around the same for other buffets that have 10 times the amount of slecetion and also tastes way better, the paper duck is serving dry bland food that tastes like it was cooked 3 days ago. Extremely dissapointed by how bad this place is, save you money and go to mcdonalds the food is far better.

Absolutely awful. First and last time I’ll be going here. Staff were ok but the food was terrible. £36 for 2 people for the buffet and we just had a coke each . The food was tasteless and looked like it had been re heated from yesterday . What a waste of money . Wish we’d gone to the pie and mash next door . Dont waste your money . AVOID

Review by JON table for 4 people,6pm ,,,,,,i read a few bad reviews so i decided to go there anyway and see for myself, first of all the staff are very friendly and attentive the restaurant was very clean and also very clean toilets. There is a great selection of Chinese and Indian food all nicely prepared , cooked and regularly topped up, so no missing out on your favourite things, even the owner came to the table and served desserts straight from the kitchen, it is value for money and we will go back for sure, we couldn't find any faults what so ever happy days.

I understand from the reviews that it is under new management. The start wasn't the best as we stood waiting for a while despite two people being close by. We were finally acknowledged and offered any table (restaurant was empty). The staff seemed friendly enough but a lot of unnecessary fuss about drinks (having to guess what they had instead of what they don't). In the end, we decided upon diet coke. (Please note this is certainly not coca cola or Pepsi). The restaurant does not serve alcohol so you'll only be able to choose from a small number of fizzy drinks. Now to the food, quite confusing as it appears to offer world foods, but the only non-chinese food I saw was some poppadoms and chips. The food was of a reasonably good quality and both myself and my partner were satisfied by the quality having consumed as much as we could manage! Dessert option is disappointing. I did not want to dare tackle the ice cream as the freezer looked like it had better days. I'd have liked a better selection, but then again, non of us go for the buffet. It's clear that the business isn't doing well and perhaps they opened Sunday because they are struggled. The pricing is confusing but on a plus note, we paid less than expected (£38 for 2 x people and 2 x drinks), which isn't bad at all. Would we return, perhaps. The quality on food on offer for the price is reasonable but some tweeks needed. Clear signage, clear pricing and you're either Chinese or world. If you're world, then offer more than what we found. Staff are friendly although it felt quite overwhelming as when we arrived it seemed like everyone crowded around us which extended to when choosing the first set of dishes. Thankfully, the restaurant started to fill up and then we could settle in to our evening. We left full and contented.

Oh God, this place! The girls were lovely but the food - Jesus! I don't even know what to say - please save your money. The owners have given up. The desserts are 1 chocolate cake that was obviously bought from Asda. I'm sorry I hate leaving awful reviews but we had to leave before my partner was physically sick.

Went today during reopening. Was okay nothing special though. Expensive even with 20% grand reopening discount. Kids £8 each Although they literally only ate half a plate combined (1 year old and 5 year old) was only ones in there at 1730. Most food could taste was cooked a while ago and just sat there heated. Would return but defo not in a rush. Shame

My god daughter requested to come here for lunch. Its been a few years since we were last here and she wanted to try some different things. First the positives. For lunch it has a decent selection of dishes that would satisfy most people. And the price is reasonable for what you get. Now the negatives. The phone number on their own site is wrong so even calling to book is hard. And the staff are moody on the phone and in person. Not everything they advertise on the menu is actually available. Food quality is just about acceptable. Some dishes have clearly been there a while or been reheated. We were one of only 2 occupied tables and our order of 3 drinks was still wrong. My 3 star review is probably being generous

Firstly Paper Duck is under new ownership as Nom Fuh (or something similar). They currently have signs for both. Paper Duck over the door that doesn't open (!) and Nom Fuh over the one that does. The telephone number and email address on their website is for the previous owners and they have not asked them or organised to have the previous site taken down or published new contact information. I went along anyway as I have been going to this particular restaurant over the years and it has been lovely - NO MORE !!! As on previous reviews as the restaurant is really quiet (no wonder since you can't get a reply on any query !!) the food is luke warm, overcooked and dry. Ironically they didn't have duck !! they did have pancakes, cucumber and hoisin, so looking good but then.... no they had crispy chicken that looked more like the scraps you get from a fish and chip shop than identifiable as chicken. It is such a shame as this place was lovely. I mentioned to the staff all of the above comments and he said that management were looking to rectify in the New Year. I told him he wouldn't need to as if nothing changed the business would have to close anyway. Let's hope this didn't fall on deaf ears !!!

Terrible disgusting food. Do not go here. Nothing was edible, the duck was tiny balls of fat, springs rols tasted vile and the soup looked scary with a film stuck on it! the ice cream fridge had mold on the door.

The Paper Duck or Ton Pho as it's now called, is awesome. The food was all of a high quality, the service was friendly and attentive without being over-bearing, the staff made suggestions of what things paired well or what sauces to try. Value for money is exceptional and there's something for every taste. Large selection of drinks too. Will definitely be coming back.

Absolutely appalling had to pay before we ate (red flag!!) Food was terrible. Asked for a refund or at least something as we didn't really eat anything the manager just pointed to sign saying no refunds given. I went up to get my first plate of food I had small bit of different food on it, as I was sitting down at our table the bill was places on my table and the service person stood waiting for Payment, wasn’t happy bit I quickly sorted that out as I was looking forward to eating what was on my plate. Only the food wasn’t that nice it was dry and didn’t have much flavour, I didn’t go up for a second plate no one on my table did and this is why people are given the bill before they eat will never be going back

WORST place I’ve ever eaten. Food was just tasteless and dry, had one plate didn’t finish it and didn’t want to go back for more, and when it comes to Chinese I’m a fat boy. Lovely sign posted saying food won’t be wasted and any plates wasted will cost £5, on top of the £25 you pay per person, what a absolute joke, coke was served with syrups run out, sign falling off outside, staff looking like they don’t even want to be there. At least I had some prawn toast I could banged a nail in the wall with. Will never touch this place again, wouldn’t wish such bad food on my worse enemy, at least there’s a McDonald’s round the corner.

Literally horrendous. My breath was hotter than the food. Dry. Nothing was even good tasting. I had flies buzzing around me at my table. I am annoyed it cost me 25 quid to eat food which felt like leftovers from the day before. I noticed a lady fill a tub with rice go to the kitchen ans come back with it after probably reheating it. I actually don't know how this place is still open? What a dreadful meal. Place needs a serious inspection..

I'm actually quite sad to say the this is no longer the paper duck. My last review a year ago was all round good. This time around... awful! It is now called Ton Pho and is a world buffet. Unfortunately, world buffet is a big stretch... Advertised on the door it said under 3's were free and under 10's half price. You pay before you eat (cash only)... and if you don't finish your plates you are charged £5 per plate. We were given the bill once we ordered our drinks and had to say about the sign on the door because our 2 year olds were charged. They changed the bill and then took the sign off the door. The overall customer service was awful! We were glared at the whole meal. The food is nice but world buffet?? Nope! It's hard to put together a meal. Honestly... do yourself a favour and don't bother.

Went here last night for a birthday meal. Have been a few times over the years and it has always been spot on. HOWEVER, last night wasn't quite what I'd expected. Overly salty food, £25 per person (which had to be paid up front!). Was told regular size soft drinks are included. It's actually only the first drink, then they'll charge you £2 each for any extra drinks. Also, it's definitely a generic brand of coke, which is flat and no taste! Massive disappointment really, suffice to say we shall not go back anymore. Not sure how this place will survive to be honest, was empty!

When we sat down to eat, the ask for cash only and sticky tables should have been the clue to leave!! When I had 2 hairs in my food , I completely lost my appetite. World buffet left us feeling disappointed. Lots of the food was dry, luke warm and inedible even though we dined at 1pm. For £17.50 per person with a free small beaker of rola cola it was overpriced considering you couldn't even fill your tummy let alone over fill it. Food waste is not permitted or you will be charged £5 and there is a big sign by the table stating that they do not give refunds. Really? I'm sure that against your statutory rights. They then remove your plate if left for a moment to prevent you from eating more I guess! The food itself wasn't great. Chicken balls were weird and not like chicken at all they were spongy and did not taste nice, sticky chicken was hard enough to break your teeth.

Great value all you can eat buffet. Lovely selection of dishes from no spice to mild to hot. Dishes replenished quickly and without prompting and a decent selection of pudding. Best value is to visit at lunch for a big discount.

Won't be back tables are sticky fruit flies everywhere the duck has changed no long shredded no Hoisin it was a Saturday night at 7.30pm and was empty that speaks volumes. Won't be returning. Don't waste your money just unsatisfied and very bloated.

Gone down here alot seems like changed owners again recently food was not restocked quickly and duck was not good very disappointing not shredded no Hoisin sauce with duck no chicken balls won't be coming again! Table are sticky needs a complete refurb was empty in there. No pudding had to ask for it there banana fritters are the worst!! Should not be cold!

What an awful place. Processed chicken in the chicken balls. If the duck had feathers it would have flown off. Half the dishes were empty. The rice was so stidgy i coukdnt get it off the dish. Such a shame and THE most expensive I've ever had at £25 per head. Won't be visiting again and defo not recommend.

Gone downhill big time! Two meals and two lemonades came to £41.50! Lunch time! Myself and partner were the only two people in there. The food was boring, all tastes the same and was mostly overcooked. We went in the evening to see if it was any better few weeks later, £25 each! Had to pay upfront like we wernt trusted and again not nice food. Staff were lovely, not their fault but we won't be going again.

Have been coming here for many years and sadly it’s been on the decline, the quality has gone down and the price gone up ! Note on the door says food must be paid for in advance, inside notices of ‘no refunds ‘ and food not eaten will be charged at £5 per plate are not good signs either, Food wise it’s a mixture of Chinese, Thai and Indian, most of it cheap quality and over done, We won’t be returning any time soon.

Had to wait for food to be brought out as many dishes at buffet were empty. The cabbage in mixed veg was chewy not cooked enough, the onion barges were dry, prawn toast burnt, no prawns had to wait soo long I decided to have dessert, by the time dishes came out I didnt want it. The fact they take your money of £25 each and think it's acceptable service is beyond me! The waitress said sorry about this but it's not usually this busy! My girlfriend and I looked around to see the restaurant quarter full! It made sense later when I heard the waitress say to someone that the reason the dishes were taking soo long to fill was because the kitchen was concentrating more on delivery orders than the restaurant itself. This is bad management, I know we are all struggling but what a rip off. One woman threatened to go with her family and want her money back if they didn't bring out food in the next five minutes. I could go on but am shocked as it use to be good when it had different owners. Stay away from this place if you don't want poor food for a rip off price .

This was a great place to eat but based on the last 2 visits the food has declined, noodles and rice were stogie and there was a lack of flavour in many of the dishes

This has got to be the worst buffet I’ve ever been to, Limited choice of bland food and at £25 per person it was not good value. You only got one small soft drink this was flat ! You had to pay before you ate and any wasted food was charged at £5 per plate as one of our party couldn’t eat the food as it was so bad he worried he would be charged. The bathrooms were horrific blocked dirty toilets I’m not from this area so from the very outdated photos I found before visit it looked good it is not! The deserts were 2 frozen cakes jelly ice cream and cold fritters. All in all not good £53.20 for a adult and child to eat with a drink will research the area if i return to Ashford again

Called to book a table and got nothing but “mhm” on the phone. Came in with no waiter talking to us, we was asking them what we should do. Such as asking them if we can go up and get our food now, with them responding “errr no you got to pay first” like we would know? Food is what you expect for a buffet but had one waiter convincing us to get chips for a weird reason

Should have realised how bad this was asking for payment before eating…@£25 each !!! food was cold, bones in all dishes, half of what used to be on offer on the buffet and then the 2 hairs I found on my plate YUK! Demanded refund .. will not be back!

Haven't been for quite a while. Went at lunch time. Food quality has dipped considerably and choice has gotten smaller. Hard to mark for atmosphere as only two tables were taken and I was one of them.

Food disgusting never eat here again £25 a head for over cook yuk one of the worse places I've eaten in
