Travel down from Coventry the other day too see a friend found this place real nice people and genuine the food was on point like ya man Arnold Schwarzenegger said ILL BE BACK !!! LOVE ❤️

I recently hosted a birthday party for my husband at Jay’s Soul Food, and it was an incredible experience from start to finish! The food was absolutely amazing – every dish was packed with rich flavors and truly captured that authentic African food taste we were looking for. From the starter to the main dishes , everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. The customer service was also top-notch. The staff went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect, and they made us feel so welcome and valued. They were attentive, friendly, and really helped make the celebration special. I highly recommend Jay’s Soul Food for any gathering or meal – it’s a fantastic spot for great food and exceptional service.

Joined some friends for Ghanaian food. It was amazing. Great hospitality. Felt looked after and would thoroughly recommend.

Awesome experience of new types of food, flavors and restaurant(take away). Me personally I was attended by (Jay) where I got treated great and recommended amazing dishes! This is now a place I go to every single damn week I just love it! 10/10

I find myself in Ashford a few times a month on work visits; with the tiresome duties and/or responsibilities of work one always needs the desired refuel as well as good kick to the soul that Jays Soul Food gives to the palate. I dropped in from DurBar a skip across the street This week and I was reminded there is only one place to be and dine in when yearning Soul Food whether it be the offering of a Pan African Menu or right down to Montego bay with a taste of the Caribbean. As always it is a repetitive delight to dine in whilst in Ashford, as neither the Hilton and/or Travelodge I frequently stay in have comparable distinctive offerings served with distinction. Front of House Staff depicts welcoming diversity as well as Jay herself who is also caring and on hand ensuring everything is ok. Not to mention other patrons who were locals having a pint or two who sent not one but two bottles, one after the other of Premium Tusker Larger over to our table. Jays Soul Food is the place that keeps on giving! There is no place like this and/or comparable on this side of Kent!

Fantastic place to eat. We had a very warm welcome and friendly service. The food was all full of flavour. The jerk chicken was nice and spicy. Would definitely return.

Loved Jay's Jerk Chicken has a real nice spice to it without losing the flavour, the lamb patty was the best and had the beef as well, puf puf was gorgeous and sweet would be great with a sweet dip sauce makes for a nice sweet side or starter. You should definitely come visit here as there's not many soul food places around Kent that are as good as this place ❤️

had the goat curry and mrs had the jerk chicken. had so much couldnt finish half not for a lack of trying. spicy enough but doesnt make you cry your eyes out although i guess you could ask for it to be extra spicy. as it comes is perfect for me though, would definitely recommend the puf puf wish it had some chocalate or white chocalate/strawberry dipping sauce

Went to this restaurant with my friend and it was the worst experience ever. The restaurant was looking unkempt with food crumbs on the floor. The food was also tasteless. Don’t waste your money on this place guys!

Thank you Jay! We stopped on our way back from the coast for some food in the middle of a Sunday afternoon. Jay was very busy with preparing orders for big parties. She served us some delicious food and drinks that we ended up having in the restaurant. There was no one else at that time, but the music was on and Jay's good vibes made us smile. We'll come back if we ever around Ashford again!

Food was very good and quantity was good for the price also, it just took too long I was told food would be ready in 20mins and I waited over 45mins But still it was worth it

Big food and even bigger heart. This place was so welcoming and warm with simply amazing food. Would return if we ever drove past Ashford. We'd highly recommend the goat curry!

Didn’t get to try any food due to closure. Signs say open and Google reflects open but restaurant was empty and door was looked with key in door.

2nd time we visit and yes just as good as the 1st time plus dj playing afro beats loved it

Amazing, feels like eating a home cooked meal. First time having Jerk chicken and jollof rice, 10/10 flavour. Large portion size and very good price. I can see why the restaurant is named Soul Food.

You will not find better goat curry and jollof rice anywhere near here. The taste is homemade and delicious, the owner is very nice and welcoming and I always reccomend this place to friends and family.

Ordered food and is was disgusting I am Jamaican and have grown up eating Jamaican and Caribbean food and this is not it and it is an insult to call it Caribbean food. Curry goat was nothing but oil in an overly salty gravy and nothing but bones barely any meat which is unacceptable and the rice well that was a joke! The patty was not what I ordered and the plantain was so greasy it was dripping oil. How dare you call this food Caribbean! Stay away!

Nice to find caribbean food in Ashford. The owner went out of her way to give us a good service. Food was delicious. Oxtail was tender and tasty. Would visit again

Deco is very dull with brown seating I asked for a hot chocolate but they didn't have then asked for a black coffee that was also not available had a tea which when it did come was just about warm, just like the food.

First time eating ogbono and I can say I am convert. As a Ghanaian eating Nigerian food she got me swayed. Food was delicious even the jollof. ( But Ghana jollof is still king) but I enjoyed the food thoroughly.

Love this restaurant! Finally we have decent Soul food in Ashford👏🏽 Staff are warm and relaxed with a home-like chilled atmosphere.👩🏾‍🍳 Being a person of culture I am quite critical of quality and flavour in Carribean dishes. The Curry Goat and Oxtail w/ rice and peas are my go to and never disappoint. The jerk chicken has been westernised which is unfortunate because it is supposed to jerk those tastebuds into action which it does not. For those who do not like spice or pepper do not order jerk just as you would avoid a vindaloo.

We had a fantastic meal from jays :) goat curry and jerk chicken and mac and cheese were 10/10, soooo tasty :) Also the patties were LOVELY ! That lady I spoke to on the phone was very friendly also :) I recommend jays soul food !

Please kindly change the delivery company you use, how can a meal take almost 3 hours to deliver.

It was our wedding anniversary and we just needed a very quiet place for just us and Jay's soul food was just the right place. Their customer service is top notch. When I booked for the place I hadn't any expectations but we got the surprise we never imagined. Aside our orders, we had a reserved table with a happy anniversary balloons decorated to it, a bottle of wine and an anniversary chocolate cake that came at no cost. My wife and I were utterly shocked at the kind of reception we received. That doesn't happen anywhere in the UK. They made our 8th anniversary a good one to remember. Ooo and the food was sumptuous. If you happen to visit them, request for their patties and goat suya. You'll come back to thank me later 🥰🥰🥰. Such an amazing place to be if you ever find yourself in Ashford, Kent. Never knew in a million times I would find a good African restaurant in Kent. Just decided to take an adventurous travel down here and I enjoyed it🥺. The customer service was 11/10 and the food omggg it was great as well. I order the pounded yam and egusi soup and it was everything I expected, tried the efo riro as well and it didn’t disappoint. Had to get a takeout for more food. There is a bar as well if you wanna have fun all day. Definitely coming back for more. Thanks Aunty!

Ordered puff puff and it was very stale, hard to chew. Really disappointed in the inconsistency as I ordered from there before and it wasn’t like this.

Was down in Bethersden alday fishing and found this restaurant. Owner was friendly and lovely. Food was amazing and tasty. Definitely will go back there when fishing again. Good luck ladies with this Adventure. Blessings.

The worst Jamaican food I’ve ever tasted, not authentic at all. I should’ve known when I came in and saw that the patties weren’t in the front display warmer. There was a sign that said “first orders 20% off” via the app.. the app didn’t exist. Then we were told to use the link on the website, that website also didn’t work. Just honour what the sign says and do the discount? Especially as it was our first time. Moving onto the food. Microwave packed patties you’d find at Stratford underground station is all I could say. Soggy, distasteful. Than the jerk chicken? The sauce was very bbq and vinegar filled, quite sour, portion size was fine for what we paid but again no authentic flavours. The rice and peas was fine. Overall, did not have a great experience here 2/10 and the staff out at front just had zero knowledge

Customer service beyond disgusting. Everyone that ordered after us got their food before us and they tried to blame us for what we ordered. Save your money cause you’ll be disappointed by the mediocre atmosphere and that blonde so-called ‘manager’ service.

Was so excited for to be treated to a Carribbean cuisine from my girlfriend. Starter was ok but took over half an hour to come. By the time this came I was tired and over hungry. I decided to take our jerk chicken and goat home. We were so excited, but to our disappointment, there was more BONE ant salty gravy. RANK. AND then the SO CALLED JERK CHICKEN , was just tomato ketchup with a hint of cayenne. on 2 kilo of rice. even though they gave us 2 kilo of rice as well for our dish.

An absolute gem of a restaurant in Ashford offering Caribbean and Nigerian food. Portions are generous, food is authentic, tasty and very reasonably priced. Everything served with a smile. Would definitely visit again.

Jay can make a curried goat like My aunt who rest her soul also made a good old Jamaican curried goat. I text she replied she said she would get me a good sized curried goat said I would Enjoy it and oh my god it was banging YEA MAN the pic Is left overs probably for breakfast.

Wanted to try for a long time and actually a little mad at myself for waiting so long. Was absoloutely delicious and portion size was so good value for money. Staff were brilliant, very happy and passionate about the product. Even enjoyed it for next 2 days for lunches as the portions were so good. Will be back again very soon

Jay's soul food is amazing, to say the least. The jollof rice was on point. I also tried their pounded yam and efo riro, and it is wonderful with a homemade vibe. This is my sure plug for Nigerian food.

My husband and I visited restaurant 20.5.23 whilst on a weekend break from London. The overall service was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal - you could certainly taste the flavour in the jerk chicken! We will certainly visit again. Lady Jay was very warm and welcoming. It’s evident that she values her customers.

A Taste of Home I'm a native of the US. I had the pleasure of visiting this restaurant while visiting my partner in the UK a few weeks ago. I saw the sign to the restaurant that said soul food, and I asked my partner, "What does Ashford know about soul food? We have to check this out." We were greeted immediately upon entry by the waiter and the owner. We asked for a menu, and when I saw the offerings, I got so excited. Patties, jerk chicken, curry goat, jollof rice, etc. This was the first time in my many visits that I was able to order and eat food that I grew up eating. Let me tell y'all, the food was amazing. We tried the beef and lamb patties, plantains, and got a curry goat and rice and peas to go home. It was finger licking good. It was so good I had to go back and get some more 2 days later. The next time, we tried the jerk chicken and jollof rice. You must try this place. Not only is the food good, but they also provide excellent customer service. I truly felt like family. Please go try their food. Thank you Jay's Soul Food. I can't wait to visit again.

THE MOST INCREDIBLE MEAL I HAVE EVER EATEN !!! Me and my partner have just come back from eating at Jay’s soul food and I can’t get over how amazing the food was. We ordered curried goat, jollof rice, plantain, Mac and cheese, fries and dumpling and it was honestly some of the best food I have ever eaten. The service was fantastic, the chef and lady jay were very kind and welcoming, even the other customers were friendly and chatted with us so, it was such a good vibe, not to mention the music was great! Honestly if you are in Kent, or even if you aren’t, I would travel ANY distance to eat this food, so if your thinking about visiting or ordering a takeaway I promise you will not regret it! We will be back probably next weekend to get the same again!

Was due to be a 8 o'clock food service. What food that did come out at first was chicken that was not cooked probably then had to wait till past 10 to actually eat. Jerk chicken was more like barbecue and definitely not marinated. Didn't get rice and peas and would of been nice to have banana sauce.

Was visiting Ashford when I visited this place. The food was really tasty, very large portion 😋 and value for money indeed. Like home made food really. I would recommend this place for anyone. We came into Ashford for a couple of nights and managed to get a table booked that evening. The food was amazing, great sized portions and really flavoursome! Value for money and really friendly staff!

We were traveling from north London and were arriving very late and I called the restaurant and the owner kept the restaurant opened just for us!! She said “alright just come” in the sweetest voice. The owner has such a kind heart. Amazing amazing food with a very wide variety! I will definitely make this restaurant one of my regulars.

We had a nightmare crossing the border while the French had a national strike and after 8 hours in a van, lady jays curried goat and warm personality made the day a million miles better!! Couldn't recommend enough amazing food and 10/10 service

Well, what can I say, we came across Jay's Soul Food by accident when visiting Ashford, and decided to give it a go, best decision we made. Lovely staff and fabulous food at a reasonable price. We had the curry goat rice & peas along with the beef stew jollof rice large portions if weren't staying away we would have taken the rest home to enjoy at a later date. Would recommend it to anyone and hopefully if were are in Ashford again we can try more off the menu.

We had the most amazing Saturday night at this place, we didn't eat but Eger to return for food. The atmosphere was great, people friendly and lady Jane the owner couldn't have been more welcoming.

We were met with a very friendly service and the food was of exceptional quality. After having a discussion with the chef we were very impressed with her passion and attitude towards cooking and it showed in the dishes we ordered. Would highly recommend.

We went to a birthday celebration here today and it was fabulous. There was a buffet of rice'n'peas, jollof rice, curry goat, seasoned fish in tomato, jerk chicken, barbecue chicken and Nigerian beef. Everything was tasty and wholesome. I couldn't tell from home cooked. Finished off with fresh fruit salad of melon and grapes. Lovely staff, plenty of tasty food, great atmosphere and a real bargain! We took over one side of the place and played our own music. There is a slightly raised stage area. Great venue for a party, a tasty meal or just a drink. Absolutely loved it. Totally recommend it. If I lived closer this would be my number 1 take away. Proper food. I'm back home, totally full and taking time writing this having a lie down to help the food go down! Wish I'd taken pics to add but was too busy enjoying myself. 😊

Goat curry, dumplings, rice & peas - excellent. Lively atmosphere but not too loud to talk.

Service was a bit chaotic but the food was good. I had the jerk chicken, which was plenty filling.

It was lovely, went there for a farewell to my friend emigrating, the only thing I could say was the meat needed more cooking and more sauce, the rice was also a little burnt. And the food took time. But we were quite a big group

Ordered via one of the big delivery firms and loved every dish. Wonderfully authentic food that I will definitely be having again. Can’t wait to visit the restaurant in person.

Stumbled across Jay's food while on a shopping trip to Ashford. Never had soul food before but will definitely be back. The service was professional and the food was excellent. There were four of us and no-one had any complaints. We all chose 2mains , 2 sides and a drink for 12.50 each excellent value and would highly recommend.

I had the most amazing goat curry with jolloff rice, this evening, at Jays Soul Food. It was absolutely delicious, and such a generous portion too. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. Super friendly, welcoming staff, and the owner is just lovely and her cooking amazing! Just fantastic!

Nice to have a Afro-Caribbean restaurants showing casing additional parts of the word in Ashford and hopefully more around the Kent area. Ordering the food was straightforward and was delivered in a professional manner. The food tasted, of how quality. Arrived on time as well, which was a bonus

This unassuming restaurant is located in the center of Ashford. It offers home-cooked food and has an on-the-door Hygiene Rating 5. The food is Nigerian and Caribbean and it's a refreshing alternative to the other restaurants in the area. We had Jollof rice, goat curry, Jerk chicken and Lamb Pattie. From the first bite you know that it has been 'home cooked' with heart and passion for food. We also took some delicious spiced cake home, apparently baked to owner Jay's aunt's special recipe (something like a fusion between Carrot Cake and Jamaican Ginger Cake). We will be back to this place without hesitation. So happy that Jay has created it. Thank you and see you soon 😄
