Papa's Fish & Chips Skegness in East Lindsey

First time to skegness. Picked this place as was recommended. Highly recommended after a great meal.

The food was overcooked. The fish batter was so hard it was like concrete and at least 50% of my fish was batter. The chips were overcooked, dry and full of bits, ie, instead of full sized chips there were load of little bits of chips which since they were overcooked cooked anyway, these pieces were like rock. I expected better from this place so this was a huge disappointment and the restaurant was not clean either. I definitely won't eat here again. I've tasted better fish and chips for a fraction of the price!👎

The chips were scrappy and over cooked. The pudding was good.

Couldn't quite get my head around the pricing. We couldn't have a small gf fish and chips inside, so we sat out. I wanted the small non gf fish and chips with mushy peas. "Do you want the sausage or fishcake with it?" "Neither thank you" "Then I'll have to charge you for the medium!" You work it out for yourself. The batter wasn't cooked through, the chips nothing special and the peas were watery. Oh and the sausage...... I gave it to a passing dog.

Very expensive ,no lighting when it's getting dark ,staff was not helpful or friendly

I cannot fault the food, however the staff were cleaning while we sat there which isn't good. The toilets were disgusting and the floor was filthy. I spoke to who I assume was the manager about the floor and he said the staff were cleaning now because the night before they had a rush.of customers at 8pm. I used to work in a Happy Eater, a bit like Little Chef, and we had to do all the cleaning at night and stay until it was done. Shame these don't have the same work ethic

We'd been to Papas a previously and had take out which was delicious so we decided to sit in the restaurant with our 6yr old in tow. It was a hot, busy Saturday evening. We ordered our food and waited.....and waited...eventually I had to ask when our food would be arriving as our daughter was starting to become quite agitated as she was very hungry. Once I'd asked the food was delivered straight to our table. It looked and smelt fantastic, however, there was an issue with my fish pie and It had to be returned. The manager was very helpful, he sorted me out a new meal, gave me a full refund and a round of drinks. His customer service skills were superb and handled the situation by going the extra mile. He was the only manager on shift and was covering the whole of the restaurant including take out and bar. We would definitely return as the food and customer service is excellent.

This was the third time that we have eaten here and it will definitely be the last. Our previous two times couldn’t be faulted but today’s visit was very disappointing. There was only one member of staff, a young girl, taking orders, pouring drinks, serving meals and taking payments. We ordered our food and she brought our drinks, but over half an hour later she brought our meal which was lukewarm with dry chips. It wasn’t particularly busy so I don’t understand why the food took so long and the buzzer, which I presume meant the food was ready to be served, was repeatedly ignored. Surely at 6 o’clock on a Saturday there should have been more staff and they should have been aware that people would be coming into the restaurant for food.

We went for a fish and chip takeaway for three people, the meal was terrible, the fish was over cooked, and tasted like it had been under a hot light for 2 hours. The chips were also overcooked, with about three quarters of them inedible, and having to be thrown away immediately, I would recommend one of the other chip shops in the town.

I have just eaten the best fish and chip dinner that I have had for a long time. My daughter and I are not big eaters so we had a large fish meal between us. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful in accommodating this. The fish was cooked fresh and was beautiful.Everywhere was clean in fact I can’t fault anything about it . Many thanks to the young man called Levi for his kindness and consideration. We will be back.

I was one of a group of members of the Skegness branch of the MS society who had a absolutely delicious meal this afternoon, everyone really enjoyed the food and our server Levi was excellent, we will definitely return

I went to Papa's fish and chip shop in Skegness today with friends from the Skegness branch of the MS Society. We had a table booked which was laid with menus and knives and forks. Levi was our server. He was attentive and helpful. He took our drinks order first and brought them straight away. The orders of food were brought over promptly and looked delicious. Everyone in our party said that they had enjoyed themselves. My large cod, chips and mushy peas were lovely, but I couldn't finish my chips. Sorry Levi. All in all a brilliant lunch and excellent service.

Worst fish and chips I have ever had in my life Greasy and tasteless Also Overpriced !!! Restaurant needs a good clean to If I could give 0 I should have known when I walked in looking at the amount of people who had left food on the plates

Chips were old and reheated, as was the scampi, which was hard. Side salad was in chucks and had brown edges, as in not fresh. Server forgot our drink, and when reminded, she served us cloudy beer which had to be returned. Then when she served our food, she didn't ask if we needed any sauces, just rushed off. so food was cold before she reappeared. Will not return.

Great place - very clean, great atmosphere, fantastic food, fabulous price, very friendly and helpful staff, especially Levi - he went out of his way to make our experience at Papas exceptional 😄 Definitely recommend a visit 💯

No staff stood at service desk was not seated found our own table as plenty free, still no staff waited for a menu to no avail.. got up and walked out.. other customers stood at service desk I can only presume to pay for their dinner date of visit 9/9/23 approx 17:00 hrs

Large and small on the picture. Very nice meal, batter vey delicate. Chips crispy, not soggy. For 2 portions as on the pic plus Pepsi max and tango 0.33 cans paid £19

We have visited other Papas restaurants which have wowed us, sadly this did nothing to wow. Shockingly poor service, poor quality food, the staff were pleasant and friendly but delivering service was not high on the agenda. Drinks were left for ages on the bar before serving and even forgotten on a second order. Compared to the best I have visited, Cleethorpes this is way below a Papas standard. Perhaps an area manager should visit unannounced. A member of our party is an area manager for a food and drink chain and was shocked at the service and food quality.

Previously Papa's Skegness stood out for its excellent, freshly cooked fish and chips. I would say it was close to perfect. But something has happened to the standards. Today the batter of the fish was so soggy that it collapsed into the cardboard tray when the served picked it up. But the server presented it anyway, with an attitude of total indifference. Very disappointing.

Our various fish meals were absolutely fabulous. Special thanks to Audra and her wonderful staff for looking after us. Definitely re visit next time in Skegness.

Great service from Stevie and the food was excellent.

We were greeted by Stevie who made us feel so welcome from the moment we stepped inside . We sat on the balcony which is absolutely lovely on a hot day . We ordered medium haddock , small haddock , chips and gravy and chip shop platter with 4 side orders and 4 soft drinks . It came to £53 which for the amount and quality of food was excellent . Staff were friendly and attentive . Stevie constantly checked that we were all ok and had everything we needed . Would definately return . The pattie on the chip shop platter was so tasty . Highly recommended 🙂

Stevie was a very good host . Made an effort to get to know us and even spoke Polish to my partner. Food was very nice and the gluten free menu was excellent. Would recommend

Walked along the sea front and didn’t see many chop shops near by so thought I’d see if there was any down the main road. Saw the lovely welcoming restaurant and the young girl in the take away was smiley even though she had a long queue of people. Waited about 5 mins as she was busy and I didn’t mind Food was lovely and her service was brilliant. (P.S the girl was called Ella) Defo come again

Great service. Was there on a daytrip working for a charity which had set up a trip for homeless. Went in, in the morning and ordered and paid for 32 meals for later in the day. Levi was a star he looked after us and gave us a great service. When we got back to the coach and gave out the meals everything was spot on. Everyone enjoyed their food. Thank you Levi it could not of been easy setting all them meals up for us while still working the queue of other customers waiting to be served. We will be seeing you again, next year.

Poor service, wrong order delivered. Garden peas like cannon balls and a manager who needs retraining in how run his restaurant. Toilets Need a good clean too!!

Food order was brought all wrong had to send it back garden peas were hard,no sponge and custard for seniors special meal deal overall a very poor experience .complained to manager in charge who had as much customer service skills as the fish on my plate .

Don't waste your money here!!!!!!!! Ordered 3 meals, one being a senior special. Waited for drinks, tea came after 15 mins no milk. Went and asked for milk which took a further 10 mins to come. When order came it was wrong. Sent back correct meal came. Fish was same one as sent back so not hot. Garden peas like cannon balls. Senior special, no sponge and custard. Thought I'd give Papa's a try and went in late afternoon/early evening and dined in. very nice fish and chips would go again.

peas were dry and tasted horrible, the rest of the food didn't taste fresh.There was terrible service and they also messed up our order .The toilets were filthy and needed cleaning, and we asked for the dessert we orderd to be told they didn't have it in.We also complained to the manager and he did nothing.

Would give 0 starts if it was an option. I can't believe this place has any good reviewss. Staff obviously can't be arsed to be there. Totally unhelpful. When food was ready they made us go in the queue to get some tomato sauce. They were not bothered that we were not happy. Asked for scraps and the lass poured blank grits on top of my food. All the food was awful and over cooked. Funny tasting peas. Dry bread bun. Most of it went in the bin. Couldn't get the disgusting taste out of our mouths. We woukd never go here ever again. Horrendous.

Having eaten at Papas on Cleethorpes Pier on 19th August and posted a very bad review of our visit on Trip Advisor soon afterwards (which I hated having to do) I wanted to give Papas a chance to redeem themselves and hopefully earn a five star review this time when I and my ttwow sons visited their Skegness restaurant yesterday (August Bank Holiday Monday) and dined at an outside table upstairs. I am happy to report that the unlike those abominable and unusable toilets at Cleethorpes, the toilets here were clean and well maintained, and in contrast to the burnt and ruined fishermans pie I had at Cleethorpes I found the cod, chips and mushy peas here at Skegness to be very nice, and my sons were very pleased with their meals too. (But then again I perhaps had made an unwise choice of dish at Cleethorpes which was probably always more likely to go wrong than what I had at Skegness yesterday.) However what stops me giving Papas five stars this time is that our three meals took a very long time to arrive, finally being brought to the table at 14.08 according to my watch when the time it was ordered according to the bill was 13.13, and this was a few minutes after my son had gone to the bar to chase it up when we could see people who had sat down after us were already getting their meals. We wanted some dessert, but when I went to the bar there were other diners in front of me complaining about the long wait for their meals, and the member of staff at the till told me that they were no longer taking any orders for food because of "problems in the kitchen" We therefore left and went to the Jolly Fisherman on the sea front, where we all had a nice chocolate fudge cake and ice cream.

had scampi and chips says 10 pieces on menu recived 8 complained and got the missing scampi the chips tasted like they have been cooked in old oil (had to go and get an ice cream to take away the taste ) so dont bother in my opinion

Really bad ... Poor customer service

Thought I would grab a bag of chips for a snack after hearing good reviews but was left disappointed firstly the young lady serving me didn’t seem too happy she slammed the chip box on the counter that hard chips jumped out which was a shame as there wasn’t many to start with which was my main complaint for the amount of chips I received they were overpriced at £2.49 but they were very nice if there had been a decent sized portion I would have given 5 stars.

We called at papas (skegness) for fish an chips to take away. We waited for 30 mins, once it came the fish an chips came in boxs. But the peas an curry sauce came in normal cartons but without lids. When asked the young girl behind the counter replied with a big smerk. We dont supply lids. (How ya supposed to carry them without lids). When we did get to eat them, the fish was horrible no taste soggy batter. The chips looked liked yesterdays. Definatley not goin back

What a great place to eat by yourself or as a family or as a party. Great food, great service, and plenty to drink.

Great to have another Papas branch at a popular tourist resort. Its so difficult finding halal fish and chips at a lot of resorts, and to make matters difficult, is also for coeliac patients. Always found Papas to be very accommodating of our needs, the quality of the food is excellent, coupled with friendly service, its a must-stop for halal gluten free fish and chips whenever visiting Skegness (special shout out to Ruby, Levi and Lucy for their 5 star service). Price is also very reasonable for sizeable portions. All in all, a great way to finish a trip to the coast. Many thanks guys, keep up the excellent work.

If I could give 0 stars then I would. Went in here as the reviews said it was 4.2… what a mistake that was.. Also before you read.. most of the reviews left on here are by new accounts made by the staff to get their rating up on google to wash out the bad reviews.. which is clear to see … this is one of the actual genuine ones!! We sat in the restaurant on the balcony upstairs and ordered at the bar.. waited 35 minutes for the food so we then went and asked where it was.. to be told they had forgotten about us and that they would start the food now.. the food came out 5 minutes later and all the fish cakes were completely frozen in the middle .. we promptly asked for a refund and then left.. avoid this place.. the manager doesn’t have a clue and the chefs should be probing the food before sending it out.. if you want to be on the toilet all night then this is your place…

Went to eat Fish and Vhips in the restaurant. The dining area is more like a cafe. The food was terrible , greasy food. Meant to be the best chippy, no way. The staff did their very best.

Papas you've done it again ,,,,, Me and the Mrs had a face off between papas and the Trawlers Catch and papas won hands down . Trawlers Catch chips was white and no taste against some great chips from papas , the fish was the same ,, Trawlers Catch was small and bland and papas was large and tasty,,, The picture is of papas on the left and Trawlers Catch on the right ,, no comparison really ????

Best fish and chips I've had in ages. Ate there 3 times in a week! The £5.99 special is amazing value for money! Will go back when I'm back in the area. **update** Visited here early evening and food was just as good again. Had the fish special and loads of food could easily be shared. Lovely staff too especially the manager with short dark hair, she had some great local knowledge and chatted with my grumpy son, she even managed to make him smile! Highly recommended again!

We ate in the restaurant and the food is top class. The staff are really friendly and make you feel really welcome. Would recommend the fish cakes, full of flavour. Tried the whitebait too for the first time and it was amazing. Highly recommended place to eat.

Worst fish ever. So overcooked, I could barely get my fork through the batter and when I did, it was so tough and dry, it cut the roof of my mouth. The young boy on the outsales counter had about as much personality as a dry weetabix. No manners or conversation at all. The outside seating area was filthy. leaving this review for my mum we came in last night at about 5:45 and got seated at a table we all needed our food fried in veg oil. levi who took our order ensured that our food was fried in a separate pan and suggest we try the batter halloumi which was excellent. he’s a credit to the team and we will be back before we leave on Monday
